I love perusing an assortment of baked goods and Andersen had some tasty treats available to choose from. I decided to get an Earl Grey panna cotta, an ube pan, some milk bread, and a pesto cheese roll. The panna cotta and ube pan were amazing - creamy, not overly sweet, and all around delicious. The respective flavors of each came through nicely without being overpowering. Would highly recommend. The milk bread is only ok, I feel like it lacks a bit of flavor. And the pesto cheese roll didn't taste super fresh. I used to get these a long time ago and they had a bread slicer that would cut the giant bread into perfect strips for sharing. The cashier asked if I wanted mine sliced so I said yes, but didn't realize it was just hand slicing, so we just got a few big chunks of bread that I had to rip apart more once we got home. read more

As I was heading toward the restroom, a staff member loudly confronted me in front of other customers and stated that the restroom was for customers only. At no point was I disruptive, aggressive, or violating any policy. The employee's conduct was unreasonable, humiliating, and entirely disproportionate to the situation. Being publicly challenged and threatened with police involvement despite being a paying customer was both embarrassing and distressing. This incident raises serious concerns regarding staff training, customer treatment, and the abuse of authority by employees. No customer should be subjected to public humiliation or threats for attempting to use facilities after making a purchase. I request that management: Conduct a formal review of this incident. Identify and address the employee's conduct. Provide a written response explaining what corrective actions will be taken. The location is fairly convenient both for location and parking. The place is not overly large and the deco is clean without any fluff. I really liked the service of the young ladies who were courteous and helpful. Was in the area to check out what's new and I found a couple of "curry pan" -- one beef, one chicken. Unlike the usual turnover, this is a bread that is deep fried to give a crunchy exterior. Beef curry was more flavorful than the chicken. The bread is okay, not very flavorful. The chicken version was way more dry with hardly any curry sauce so I needed to add on lots of butter to make it tasty. Each one is $4 so I don't know if I'll buy this again. By 3pm, half of the store is cleared out so keep that in mind. Service was good -- two teenagers at the counter. read more

I visited the bakery when I was attending to a family member who was hospitalized in a nearby hospital. The staff were friendly and the service was prompt. The ambiance of the bakery was inviting with lots of tempting baked goods in display cases that were well lit. However, the food was average at best. I ordered a cup of clam chowder and a salad. The clam chowder was ok tasing but wasn't hot enough. Worse, I could taste the grit of sand -- it seems the clams were not cleaned sufficiently. The salad was appealing to look at and was crunch. Everyone is feeling the increasing costs of everyday items, but when you have loyal customers who are accustomed to a specific menu item, changing the ingredients repeatedly while describing it the same way is manipulative. I always order the farmer's chicken salad sandwich the same way every time. This sandwich used to come with sprouts, but they omitted that ingredient a few years ago. The chicken salad is now diced into chunks instead of shredded and mixed with other ingredients. It's watery, and they've added large pieces of cucumber to make it seem like there's more substance. I'm honestly happy to find a location somewhat nearby me. I was sad when they closed the one at Serramonte. At first, we were just looking. I really wanted to see and get the strawberry danish if they had it. We ended up leaving with that and so much more. It wasn't too busy when we came. The layout was the same as a Paris Baguette or 85* bakery. They had a display case, and you just grab a tray and tongs and go crazy grabbing almost one of each pastry. Maybe it's just us that does that? The pastries were all delicious. You can't go wrong with the creamy french bread or the sliced jalapeno pesto bread. All the items that had mango in them were amazing. It had huge chunks of mangoes and was super sweet. My parents enjoyed the empanadas. My brother loved the curry pan and jalapeno cheedar polish roll. Everything we bought was delicious. There was not one thing that we didn't like. Yeah, this is the one bakery chain I can get behind. Plus that it's close to SF. They are still working out the kinks like they don't have my favorite roast beef sandwich and they aren't as stocked as San Mateo but once again they said they'll try to add more over time. Great fresh bread and pastries. I like their custard fruit tarts and their raisin bread. Almost any dessert here is decent and better than Starbucks or the coffee shop down the street. Been here twice - once for the grand opening and again for sandwiches. Their bread and such are nothing special. The one in Hillsdale is better with better tasting bread. I was there trying to get some pastries and I did , something like fruit fall off in the counter I didn't know what to do , sent my husband to take the dirty spatula to the counter , the woman there seem not to care , never welcome us at all or acknowledge we were there , after all I went to pay and just notice her face like mad at me , never ever had a smile or even say this is it , I did told her I need it to add a coffee do to her expression on her face of discomfort towards me, like not welcome, like I was bothering, she never ever said any welcoming words and is ok , is just the way she spoke and her attitude that I said , why should I take this as been professional and welcoming, she obviously had an attitude and I didn't know why , she even said about a broken cookie that your going to have to buy it if you broke it , I didn't say anything about not buying it , just the fact that she trow it on top of the fruit ones , never ask me at all anything , maybe she thought I was mad , she don't know me , I had this bad situation with my husband that he's been sick and sometimes he don't listen about he's diet , we had a concern about the sugar , also why will she pay attention to customers coversations , I can't buy or pay anything at a location were they see me like this .. obviously bad .. The breads and pasties are fresh and delicious. I've tried everything from the white, apple raisin, sweet brioche, whole wheat, and English bread. All excellent choices. The cheese danish pastry and cream fresh and mango coconut danish are very refreshing. Let's not forget the desserts cappuccino cake slice, tiramisu, mango roll slice and strawberry cake. I love the whipped cream frosting over the buttercream any day of the week. The staff here are always really friendly. Plenty of space to seat to enjoy a cup of coffee or a fruit drink. Plenty of parking in the lot. I love the bakery and it's better than the bakery department at Lunardi's. Fresher! read more

I ordered pepperjack turkey panini NO avocado and when asked what bread I'd like, I told him whichever one he thinks tastes best. He recommended the baguette. I also ordered jalapeño cheese bread toasted and sliced. I asked for the tomato ravioli soup and he said it's discontinued (it's still listed on the menu) and follows with, the minestrone soup is very similar.. (how?! Makes no sense) Order took way too long (everyone's orders after us were already given) he comes to me later and lets me know that they're out of baguette bread - then why recommend it in the first place? They forget to give us the soup, AND he burned the LAST of the jalapeño cheese bread because he left it in the oven too long...which was the only reason I ever really go to Andersen. And to top it off, there was avocado in my sandwich. Bummer, my meal went to the trash. Horrible. read more

I was excited when this place first opened up. I like the one at Hillsdale. I was there when they first opened. Food selections was good. Service was good. Last Sunday at 2:30, I went in with the hope of picking up a few things. Upon entering, I saw a tray full of pastries stacked up two levels. They were left on the stack of trays and things at the entrance. I was the only customer in the store. I alerted the worker and she replied "huh, where?" several times. She wasn't doing anything at the time. I then told her to come out from behind her counter and I walked her to the trays of open pastries. She picked them up and returned every single pastry back into the display case. This is a hygiene concern! Even though it was only 2:30, the shows cases were almost empty. There wasn't many choices. I asked the worker if she could slice my bread, a service provided by the Hillsdale location and she said "no". I am ok with this. Not all places invest in a slicer, but I thought it would be nice to have one. I will not return to this place after witnessing the worker put the unattended pastries back into the display case. read more

Very friendly and accommodating service from the nice young person at the register when we placed our sandwich orders and answered our bread questions very patiently and well. We both ordered the turkey with fresh mozzarella sandwiches on sourdough sliced bread... extremely tasty and highly recommended! If I could give them no stars I would. A lot of their things didn't look fresh at all. The 2 things that really stuck out was some matcha desert was so old the top layer of cream was dry and cracking. Second the cold brew coffee had a layer of mold at the top. I pointed it out to the lady at the front and she said oh yeah we have to throw them out. She was about to walk away, but I pointed to it and asked her to look at it, so she took it and tossed it out. However, they all looked old. I stayed for another 15 minutes and she never pulled the others. This had to be sitting there for days in order for it to have mold. Someone could seriously get sick. I'm confused by the chorus of negative reviews for this place. It's close to our house and we went in for the first time today. Got a bunch of stuff, including the rustic sourdough loaf bread, mango tarts, lemon tarts, egg salad and chicken salad sandwiches, as well as their empanadas ... and it was a home run for each end every thing! The bread freshly baked with a tang and rustic crust, a heft to it that you can't find in a grocery store. The mango tart was seriously insane: freshly whipped cream on top a flaky buttery crust and fresh mango (off season, but hey managed along with shredded coconut). The sandwiches fresh and moist ... the service we got was friendly and informative, they answered my husband's questions, and parking plentiful in the strip mall. What's not to love? My challenge: how do I resist the urge to not drive here every damn day to snag something rich and creamy and sweet and buttery, of which clearly they're experts, lol :-) read more

In January I ordered a chicken salad sandwich to go, and when I got home (a half hour away), found it to be on the end pieces of the loaf of grain bread, which was also stale. I posted a Yelp review at that time. I called this Andersen's Bakery the next day and spoke with the manager, Benette. She told me the next time I came in, to let them know that Benette said to provide me with another sandwich at no cost and give them my receipt. I told her that I don't get to Burlingame very often, and it might be a couple months. She said that was not a problem. I went there on April 16 and showed my receipt to a very nice kid working the counter, and he said that Benette was no longer the manager there and he could call his manager, Laura. He said to give him about 10 minutes. I did a quick run to Lunardi's and came back in 10 minutes. When I went to talk with the employee, he said he talked with Laura and she said I had already come in and got the sandwich! How could I have done that? I still had the receipt to exchange for it! I doubt someone else had come in recently and had a chicken salad sandwich redone for them, unless Andersen's Bakery is making poor chicken salad sandwiches often. I will not be returning to this Andersen Bakery again. I cannot believe the manager, Laura, would lose a customer and lose good will over a $9.25 sandwich. I'm in my late sixties ... I don't go around scamming sandwich shops. Yes, I can afford to have purchased another sandwich, but it was the principle of the matter. Shame on Laura and Andersen Bakery. read more
