Food: We ordered the crispy chicken and that was the best option out of all the dishes we had the pork and duck and that was not good. all the other dishes was subpar at best. Service: Terrible service. It depends on who you get, but the waitress that we got was horrible. She lied to us telling us that they don't have green pepper but when we asked another waitress from the back she brought us some. Decided to give this place another try, but left sorely disappointed yet again. The interior has since been redone in a grey hue, and thankfully there are new staff added. I've had some mishaps with a few servers being rude (thin young girl in glasses and Asian guy glasses), inattentive and throwing the paper menus and pencils onto the table. Once, she dropped my things onto the floor and just picked it up nonchalantly, without so much as an apology. I really want to like this place, as it always looks busy with older Chinese folks, and seems bustling. And does seem promising with new staff. However, it's just too darn busy, understaffed, noisy, and, with all the tables crammed in- it just becomes a very uncomfortable and chaotic dining experience. My tea ran out and was never refilled with hot water, for example. And with no servers in sight to flag down. I like bustling dim sum restaurants, but I don't like the terrible layout of this place. Food quality has also diminished, due to how busy it is presumably. Unflavorful, yet overly salted with food either being overdone or undercooked. Just a big disappointment. I hope this place can get better by making some much needed improvements moving forward. Please refocus on food quality and customer service. read more

My friends and I decided on a dim sum date and one friend suggested Happy Together. I have never heard of it but after this chat, it felt like everyone was talking about this place in other conversations. It opens at 10 on weekends and there is a line out of the door before it opens. It may be helpful to come early but even after everyone gets in, there are still a few tables left so you might be safe coming a bit after. It is not a huge place in comparison to other dim sum places but it is big enough. Solid options on the menu and prices are pretty standard for dim sum now. Highlights were the har gao and the siu mai, the cherng fun, and the law pat gow. The cherng fun were unique in that the beef was minced beef rather than patties, that I am used to, and the bbq pork also included corn. The other fried dumplings like the ham sui kok was fine but not enough filling. A few let downs were the chicken feet and the molten salted egg buns. The chicken feet were a bit scrawny and the buns were not molten. I'd nonetheless recommend this place. It is a solid choice and sits up there with the top notch places in SGV. We came in around 10:45 AM on a Friday and got seated right away. 11:15 and people were starting to put their names on the waiting list. My go to place for roast duck as they were always fresh white meat with crispy skin. It's our tradition to eat Chinese on Western holidays - like - instead of roast goose we will have roast duck. Got one today 12/25/24 around 10:30am. It was a very good-looking plump one - but it smells old & meat is pink after opening it. It is the worst Xmas ever. We came for lunch a bit ago and i forgot to write the review. the seating is a bit packed, but not outrageously so. As this restaurant is part of a hotel, parking is available, but may be behind or on the other side of the building. Also, bathrooms are in the hotel not the restaurant. This place is popular, so i think you can sign in on yelp or sign in when you get there, but there is generally a wait. The interior has a modern feel to it. The wait staff was friendly and efficient. I do not recall the prices, so they were probably not too far out of bed, but i think the thing i remember most is that only the most common/popular items are available (not several varieties of dumplings and such, but enough to keep me interested) We enjoyed the food. but, not sure i would choose to return or try something new. read more

Few weeks ago I checked Yelp looking for a dim sum restaurant around Rosemead and El Monte, and Happy Together popped up. I was a little skeptical about it because it was described as being inside a Holiday Inn hotel, but Yelp reviews are showing positive comments, so I decided to try it today. When we entered the restaurant at 10:20 on a rainy Saturday, and it was already crowded. I heard the host telling one party that they have couple of small tables open (like for 2-4 people), but anything over 6 would have to wait. It was only my husband and I, so we were seated quickly. I ordered the typical siu-mai, shrimp dumpling, steamed BBQ pork buns, beef chow fun, fried turnip cake, and string beans. They were tasty. Both my husband and I thought the steamed BBQ pork buns had thicker dough, could be a little thinner. The fried turnip cake was average at best. We enjoyed everything else and would be back. The restaurant is adjacent to tue Holiday Inn, and I used the ladies restroom without any issues (clean). read more

I found this place with the help of Yelp. It seems to have recently opened so service is friendly but needs some training so they don't keep you waiting too long to get your order. But the kitchen works fast so the food comes out rather quickly. Decoration is plain, nothing crazy about it and has a large screen and a dancing floor area, maybe they do parties here(?). We tried their dim sum, there are no carts coming to your table and you must choose from their menu sheet and write down your order. I really don't mind this because that means the food is not sitting going around the place so there is a sense of freshness there. I'm not an expert of Chinese food but I consider myself an expert of what I like and this place has some delicious stuff that I truly enjoyed. We tried 12 different items and I enjoyed 10 of them. Other 2 were ok but simply just not for my taste. I'm planning to try again more of their many dishes, 12 is just a small portion of their several options available according to the menu. Parking is shared with the Holiday Inn hotel so it might get a little crowded depending on the hour and may have to park all the way in the back of the hotel. read more

Stayed at the Holiday Inn and tried to call ahead of time - but no answer :( Food was a little salty for my taste but the menu seemed authentic. The restaurant itself has a really great vibe. We went to this place twice and ordered couple times take out. For the 2nd time dine in experience, we ordered lobster, they said the minimum lb for lobster we need to order was 5 lb, when I saw the lobster put on the table, it looks less than 3 lb, and the lobster meat was dry/tough, they didn't know how to make lobster. I've been to several seafood restaurants in SGV so I can tell how big the loster is by looking at the head and mear portion. DO NOT order lobster at this restaurant! I also ordered basil clam once and it was not good either, the sauce/gravy was super thick with little portion of clams. Other dishes were not impressive at all. Only soy sauce chicken was worth it, it might be the best soy sauce chicken I've had in SGV. I always order the buy half get half free chicken to-go(1/2+1/2=1), however, if you buy to-go, they don't give you a whole chicken, they actually take out the chicken thigh. The last time I went there and decided not to go back anymore was the cashier(waiter) who took my order through the phone, I told him i wanted to buy half get free half soy sauce chicken, however, they gave me the wrong order(they gave me half soy sauce and half yellow chicken instead), and then I need to wait for another 20 mins for them to revise the order. After I went in to pick up my order, he told me they didn't accept credit card for order under $25(or $30 I forgot) so I left. I cannot believe I've wasted so much time on this, they could've put a sign or remind me when I called to order. Especially they made me wait for another 20 mins to revise the order and I got NOTHING in the end. This place is shady(charge us 5 lb for a 2.5 lb lobster) with inexperienced waiter/casher. It's is our first time eating at this restaurant. This seems to be a very nice place to eat. They will seat you right away and the staff are friendly and helpful. The food is very good especially the roast duck and the steamed rice and chicken Lotus leaf. It is next to the Holiday Inn hotel or inside it. There is plenty of parking and it's free. My girlfriend and I were craving Dim Sum and since we were in the area, we went here. It was a pretty good size location connected to a hotel. However, it was clean and service was awesome and fast. Dim sum is tasty but the person at the front was not able to handle assigning table well. She lets some customers just sat down ahead of us. When I asked about it, she just said they are a bigger table. Just be prepared that other customers can easily cut in front of you. They want us to stand outside so that they can randomly assigned other customers ahead of us. We ended up sharing a table with a nice couple. We really like their har gow, noodle rolls, tofu wrap sui mai. Dim sum is fresh and good quality. The roasted pork was just ok. We've only done togo. We used to like Elite but it is no longer open. This is located inside holiday inn hotel. They are pretty busy, but not more than a couple of families in line waiting. Nothing crazy yet. Bathrooms in the hotels are nice and clean.
