Came during a weekend dinner time. Parking was to find on their lot. Place was busy as there was a family taking three big tables. They only provided us with the lunch menu when we arrived. If you spend $50 or more, you get to spin the wheel for a free dish. They asked us what we wanted and we requested the 免费烤鸭 or Roasted Duck. We didn't spin the wheel. Later, we saw that crab was one of the free item you could spin for, so we immediately ask the waiter to change the free item, but she said they already cut up the duck. Also, they said you have to spin to get the crab. We've been here many time and have not see anyone spin for the crab. We ordered the 清蒸鲈鱼 or Steamed Sea Bass with Soy Sauce for $16.99, 乾煸四李豆 or Stir-fried String Beans for $10.99, 海鲜扒炸豆腐 or Seafood Fried Tofu for $13.99, and 宮保雞丁 or Kung Pao Chicken for $10.99. We also ordered white rice for $1.50 per bowl. All of the dishes were really salty. We saw other tables had the Dinner Special menu. There were a bunch of items that I ordered that was not available so I had to make some last-minute changes to my order. Okay so my family and I stopped by Big Ma's Kitchen in Rosemead for dim sum this past weekend and I'm still thinking about it. We ordered a solid spread. The Lo Mai Gai (steamed rice wrapped in lotus leaf) was probably my favorite of the day, so soft and savory once you unwrap it. We also got the siu mai (pork and shrimp dumplings, obviously non-negotiable), a deep fried meat dumpling that had the perfect crunch, and finished things off with the coconut pudding for dessert. Here's the part that made the whole meal though. They've got a promo right now where if you spend over $50, you get to spin a prize wheel for a free item. My dad spun it and somehow landed on a completely free roast pork plate. We were not expecting that and it made the whole meal feel like a win. Portions were generous, everything came out fresh and hot, and the price point is honestly hard to beat for what you're getting. This is one of those spots that doesn't need to be fancy because the food just speaks for itself. Although it's worth mentioning that they do have HERMES plates and cups and a decent ambiance. So far, I've been here for dim sum and dinner, Big Ma's Kitchen is consistent overall. Flavors are on point and prices are very reasonable. Most importantly, it got my Asian mother's stamp of approval. The $3.88 dim sum special can't be beat. They also take reservations, so that came in handy this past Friday lunch with my party of 10. The chairs looked old and worn, and the overall space felt outdated. The main item I wanted to try was the dumplings, but unfortunately they were unavailable, which was a letdown. First of all, their Chinese name actually translates more to "Royal/King Horse," so "Big Ma's" feels like a pretty lazy translation. We were already a bit disappointed that they didn't have the beancurd tofu skin roll on the dim sum menu. Instead, we shared the steamed seabass, braised tofu, and BBQ pork. Unfortunately, the BBQ pork was just okay, and the braised tofu was pretty bland. The biggest issue, though, was the steamed seabass, it came out half raw! The spicy eggplant was solid as well. The complimentary soup that comes with the specials were outstanding and hearty with pork and chicken. The dim sum was good but not great. The shrimp rice noodle was ok. We had shrimp hargaw which was a bit mushy. The pork/shrimp shui mai was plump and good and the barbecue pork bun was fluffy and delicious. The customer service was outstanding! 5 stars because of the service. Food came out fresh and hot and no charge for the delicious jasmine tea. So we use to come here to the fast food, steam table section, to pick up a dish or two for dinner. Well, with the new ownership & remodel, we wanted to do our normal thing and pick up a dish for dinner. Going into the fast food section, place looked clean, staffers looked ready to serve, food looked ok. Here is where the problem starts, looking at a dish of steam chicken with mushrooms and other miscellaneous vegetables, we asked for one large order of it, the server placed two small scoops in the container and closed the box. They wanted to charge us over $12 dollars for portion size for a small child. My wife who is normally very calm & quiet, spoke out to the server in her language, "is that all we get for a large portion? ...and for that price" If she has to yell out, it has to be really bad. I did not try their dine-in, but I ordered their to-go dishes. They have a discount dim sum price after 3 p.m. (buy two get one free, and the dim sum price is $5.26 each). I was there at around 3:30 p.m., but most of the dim sum were gone, so I only ordered their pineapple custard buns, beef ribs, and steamed pork ribs. I also ordered the 2-item rice combo plate (only $8.99). The dim sum quality was mediocre, but I liked the steamed pork ribs. The beef ribs were kinda greasy. For the 2-item rice combo plate, the taste was not bad but could be better. The price was cheap, so you get what you paid for. However, I still wanna try their other dishes and dim sum as well. The to-go service was fast and efficient, and they were very friendly. My original experience still wasn't good -- the service felt uncomfortable, the restroom soap issue should not have happened, and some of the food did not taste fresh. Located on the corner of Garvey and Del Mar. Free parking. Currently they're having an anniversary promotion until 4/30/26- if you spend more than $35 pre tax, you can spin the wheel to win a free dish (which can vary from duck, chicken, lobster etc) which is a pretty good deal. Dim sum starts at $3.88. Tables are packed in, so you'll be pretty close to your neighbor. There was an English speaking gentleman, he was very nice and helpful and took our order. I if it wasn't for him, service would be ok only. The others didn't smile and were not very attentive. Good place for an inexpensive very casual meal with close friends. The lunch specials come with complimentary soup and rice. We were never brought soup so I had to ask for it. The soup was comforting and flavorful, not too salty. The meat in it easily fell apart and was very tender. Tried the steamed tilapia with soy sauce ($13.99), soy sauce and imperial chicken duo -whole chicken ($23.99), roast duck- half ($18.88), live lobster sautéed with ginger and scallion ($20.99/lb)- they said the smallest was 1.5 lbs they had this day- it was listed as lobster and noodles but noodles didn't come, when inquired he said it would be separate and would be an extra $5, so we added on the noodles which I thought would have been part of the dish- so the lobster noodles came out to be $36.49. We finished off the meal with one dim sum item, the egg tarts- 3 for $3.88. We didn't get any veggies this time but there wasn't any space on the table to put it anyway. Overall it was a decent meal. Our friends recommended this dim sum place. We stopped by Monday morning around 11. It's not that busy so we got the food pretty quickly. The restaurant is not that big and it looked like another regular Chinese restaurant. Still pretty lively. We got chicken feet/ BBQ pork/chives rice noodles/shrimp rice noodles/ soy sauce chow mein/shrimp siu mai/ truffle siu mai/mailai cake/baked BBQ pork BAO. The total came down to about $72. The taste was as good as expected. The soy sauce chow mein has good wok hei. The siu mai were plumb. I won't get the BBQ pork/chives rice noodles next time because the fillings were too chopped up. The soy sauce got soaked up and it didn't taste as good as the shrimp one. read more
