We love a bargain!! You can't beat the price for good dim sum. For as long as it lasts, pay $3.88 per dish. We ordered five items from a menu of about 20 or so dim sum items on the front page of the fancy glossy color order form. See pic. *Chicken feet 5/5 ( steamed phoenix claw in black bean sauce) mildly spicy, piping hot, delicious. Order it. *Beef noodle roll 5/5 well made, meat tasty, kinda sweet, yummy. Order it!! *Baked bbq bun 3/5 was kinda hard on the glazed top and barely warm. *turnip cakes (panfried rafish patty) 5/5 good. Had bbq bits in it, which I liked, no dried shrimp, which I liked, but there was a mild dry shrimp flavor. **sticky lotus rice wrap. 5/5 Egg yolk inside, about the size of your palm, sticky rice stuffed with chunks of meat, including Chinese sausage. Loved it. Order it!! Crowded at noon, we were sat right away at a table for four. The waiters asked us politely if we could swap tables with a group that was too cramped at a table for two...we agreed so the server could accommodate the larger party. We were glad to do it, but I think he should have offered the tea for free. But it's fine. I overtired anyway. TIP-- pay in cash, or incur a 3.5 percent extra cost for using a credit card for a total under $30. There's a surcharge for takeout too...we got a half pound of bbq pork for $7 buck at the little takeout attacked to the dining room on the supermarket side of the building. *takeout of bbq pork.. Good flavor but kinda dry...and dark, mostly lean bbq pork. 3/5. This place is noisy at noon on a Tuesday; shares a parking lot wirh an Asian market, so parking lot is big and free...but an be challenging depending on when you arrive. Service is fast, easy to flag servers, easy to signal for the check, but they seem to be short staffed so don't expect check ins for extra napkins ohot water refills for your teapot. But they are easy to flag if you need anything. At least they don't pressure you to leave right away, since I had to wait for my change, it was a nice leisurely tea visit with mom. The change came in one's abd fives, yay! 5/5. Perfect for tipping generously, but not overly. A lot of oeople were doing takeout. The $3.88 per dish works there too. And after 3 pm, 2 items for that same price. What a bargain.

    出爐燒肉 or Roasted Pork $10.99

Came back to try their sizzling cod fish buy one get one special. The cod fish was $28.99, and you get a coupon for a free sizzling cod fish for your next visit. Not expiration date according to the waiter. Came during their lunch special again. Got their 九層塔炒蜆 or Fried Clams with Basil for $13.99. We spun their anniversary special wheel and won the 明爐燒鴨 or Roasted Duck (priced at $16.99), but asked to have the 出爐燒肉 or Roasted Pork (priced at $10.99) instead. This time the gave us soup. The soup was alright. We asked that all of the dishes be less salty. They complied. The sizzling cod fish was delicious. The 九層塔炒蜆 or Fried Clams with Basil tasted fresh and the flavor was right. The 出爐燒肉 or Roasted Pork tasted great to me, but other members of my group felt it was dry. Overall, glad they listened and the dishes weren't too salty this time.

We stopped here because we were in the area and needed a place to eat. I'll be honest, this visit was disappointing. From the moment we walked in, the restaurant did not feel very clean. The chairs looked old and worn, and the overall space felt outdated. The main item I wanted to try was the dumplings, but unfortunately they were unavailable, which was a letdown. We ordered just two dishes, and the total came to $42 before tip about $50 after tip. For that price, I expected much better quality. The vegetables were plain, and the noodles were soggy. The food itself just didn't justify the cost. Customer service was okay, but not very attentive. They didn't really check on us during the meal and seemed more focused on cleaning and other tasks in the back. Overall, this was not a great experience, and personally, I wouldn't come back

I came in to check out their anniversary special, which is a pretty unbeatable deal at $3.88 for dim sum. They also have a promotion where if you spend $35, you get to spin a prize wheel for a free dish. We ended up with the soy sauce chicken as our prize, which was a nice bonus. I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately the food was just "okay". I found most of the dishes to be lacking in balance and flavor. The service was fine... nothing spectacular. Although it wasn't my cup of tea, I still recommend ya'll give this place a try. Who knows, I may have gone on an off day. Siu Mai 6/10 - Lacked a lot of flavor. The meat was very chewy and had too much mushroom. Soy Sauce Chicken 6/10 - Not properly seasoned, and didn't taste fresh. Chicken Feet 8/10 - The only good dish. It was very flavorful! Shrimp Rice Roll 6/10 - The wrapper was far too thick and overpowered everything else on the dish, including the soy sauce. Fried Shrimp Rice Roll 6/10 - The red rice wrapper was just as thick as the regular shrimp rice roll. Hardly any shrimp in the filling. Har Gow 6/10 - Same problem, thick wrapper. Shrimp itself was decently seasoned, but overpowered by the thick wrapper.

steamed seabass - half was still raw

First of all, their Chinese name actually translates more to "Royal/King Horse," so "Big Ma's" feels like a pretty lazy translation. We were already a bit disappointed that they didn't have the beancurd tofu skin roll on the dim sum menu. Instead, we shared the steamed seabass, braised tofu, and BBQ pork. Unfortunately, the BBQ pork was just okay, and the braised tofu was pretty bland. The biggest issue, though, was the steamed seabass, it came out half raw! I pointed it out to the waiter, and even he reacted with an "aiyah, very sorry!" I do appreciate that they removed it from our bill without us having to ask. Also... does anyone know why they use knock-off Hermès-style dishes?A bit odd. Overall, this visit was pretty underwhelming.

    Siu mai with truffle.

Glad that I decided to stop by at this place. They are running an anniversary special. Dim sum for $3.88. Extremely good deal. Service is quick and attentive. Immediately served with tea and pork ribs soup. Already loving it. Then the manager stopped by with a surprise. Spin for free items. Yaaaay. We got yellow chicken, i think its Hainan chicken. Juicy, tasty deliciously and free. What I ordered: Sea bass steamed, plating is not pretty, minimal scallion shreds. The fish is tender and soft but still has lots of fish bones. Careful when eating it. It has a very little hint of chinese herbal in the sauces. egg tofu, delicious. Good amount of lettuce and enoki mushrooms. The sauce is perfect too. The yellow Chicken. Very tasty. I usually doesn't like this kind of chicken, to my surprise. It's really really good. Will be ordering this for the next visit. Har gao, bigger size, thicker skin which is quite good. chicken feet. This is one of the best Fung Jao that I ever eat in USA. It has that Singaporean flavor. Love it. Very tasty. Sticky rice, pretty good. Better than some other places. Siu mai with truffle. Now.. this one is just a regular siu mai and top with a little truffle thingy. So when the little truffle fall on the plate, thats it, you'll be eating regular siu mai, so if you order it with truffle, you better not drop the truffle. Not crazy for this one. The soup on the house. Just like grandma's soup. Simple and delicious. Will be back soon and will bring my family here too.

It's my first time at this restaurant (under new management). I ordered roast duck, roast pork and soy sauce chicken to go. I liked the roast duck and soy sauce chicken. I would give them 4 out of 5 stars rating. The roast pork was okay. 3 out of 5 stars. I would have liked the skin to be more crispy. I see that they also serve dim sum and other Cantonese dishes. I would go back there to try other dishes.

Shout out to Peter and Lisa from YouTube for showcasing Big Ma's Kitchen! Probably the best salt and pepper shrimp I have had in ages! Perfectly fried and seasoned. The spicy eggplant was solid as well. The complimentary soup that comes with the specials were outstanding and hearty with pork and chicken. The dim sum was good but not great. The shrimp rice noodle was ok. We had shrimp hargaw which was a bit mushy. The pork/shrimp shui mai was plump and good and the barbecue pork bun was fluffy and delicious. The customer service was outstanding! 5 stars because of the service. Food came out fresh and hot and no charge for the delicious jasmine tea. Plus they don't have a service fee for using credit cards which I appreciated. Will definitely be back to try other dishes.

    Yunnan Mushroom Chicken Soup

tl;dr -- Food was fine, but it's definitely mid for SGV since there are many options that are better. Service was also really slow, so we ended up canceling our order on the BBQ platter. My cousin and I met up with my aunt and her family for dinner this past Sunday at Big Ma's Kitchen. It was pretty busy, probably because it was a weekend night and LNY Eve Eve. We ordered pretty quickly upon arrival, but it took awhile for food to come out. 822. YUNNAN MUSHROOM CHICKEN SOUP - 22.99 Started off on a good note with some hearty soup that had a satisfying chicken flavor. It was warm and soothing, so I enjoyed two bowls for myself. 809. WAGYU KOBE BEEF WITH SNAP PEAS - 24.99 Flavor wise, it wasn't bad but could use more wok hay. The beef was definitely tenderized with baking soda to get that soft texture, but we can tell it wasn't very high quality. The snap peas were pretty fresh, quite crunchy and enjoyable. 321. TAISHAN CAULIFLOWER STIR FRIED PORK BELLY/PRESERVED MEAT - 19.99 Good stir-fried flavor with fresh Taishan cauliflower. This was probably my favorite vegetable dish we got. However, it still wasn't anything to write home about. 909. PEA SPROUTS (GARLIC STIR-FRIED) - 20.99 The pea sprouts looked wilted and old, and it tasted exactly like it looked. It was tough and a bit difficult to chew through. Overall, disappointing. 709. SOY SAUCE AND IMPERIAL CHICKEN DUO - 23.99 Both chicken styles were pretty mid. The white chicken was dry and flavorless, despite the more flavorful skin. We have made better versions at home. We waited a long time for the BBQ Platter which we ended up canceling because we didn't know how much longer we'd have to wait. Somehow, all of this fed a party of seven with some leftovers. I'm unsure if everyone was full or if some of us didn't eat to our heart's content since the food wasn't that good. Unfortunately, I'm reluctant to come back to Big Ma's Kitchen.

Background On Visit: Was famished after a long day at work. So I decided to make myself feel better by having some canto food. Credit Card: They're accepted, but will charge a 3.5% surcharge for checks under $29. Restrooms: Restroom is available to use. Location/Parking: Located on the SE corner for Del Mar and Garvey. Parking can be found in their private lot. You can also find parking on the street. Ambiance/Decor: From the outside, the restaurant looks big. In the inside, it's kinda small. Modern furnishings through out the shop. Service: Service was decent. Justin was friendly and attentive. food came out at a decent time. Food Of Choice: I decided on the steamed chicken with mushroom under the $10.99 section. It also came with a bowl of soup and rice. Thought it was good, but the food was pre-made already. While I was exploring the bbq section, I saw a batch of it . I probably think they just put a plate full of it and just warmed it up before it reached my table. Big Ma's For Thought: I might come back to try out their dim sum.

The prices are great and they currently have a spin the wheel for an extra free dish of either chicken, pork, lobster. Plus free soup, rice, and dessert with each order. So the value is there. The cut chicken and pork were decent. But the food entrees themselves like the fish, veggies, cucumber were cooked with too much salt and oil for our table's taste. Probably can request to lessen, which may help the flavor. The ingredients also didn't taste that fresh, so was disappointed there. The service was quick and kind. Ambiance is standard Chinese restaurant. Plenty of parking, part of a larger plaza.

I still love their to go food. They change their dishes up and their eggplant is really good. Sometimes they have this fried fish fillet with sauce. I love that too. Their dim sum after 3pm special has some limitations. But dim sum tasted good too.

Chilean sea bass was sold out and we were told that pea shoots were not in season, despite seeing them at the grocery store next door... Started off with the signature lobster noodles. The staff brought out a lobster and claimed that it was 4.1 lbs. Lobster was priced at $40/lb. Noodles were a $20 surcharge. The lobster dish was gigantic and perfect for sharing. Flavoring was good and the e-fu noodles were decent. Portions were generous too. The seafood soup was okay, it felt more like an instant soup vs the traditional soups that were made overnight. The ong choy with beancurd was a gigantic portion and well stir-fried. The Vietnamese style filet mignon was tasty. Beef was tender, fragrant, and flavorful. Service by the staff was good. Meal ended off with a complimentary dessert. ~$75/head after tax and gratuity for dinner.

We come here for the low price wonton noodles, steamed spareribs on steamed rice, and the beef rice…read morenoodle rolls. We also order their HK style lemon iced tea. It's pretty good here and they have complimentary refills! They're known for their rice noodle rolls here and you can order them, along with their small dim sum menu, all day long. The wonton noodles here were just $13.98! They come with 5 large wontons and vegetables over wonton noodles. I always recommend adding chili oil. The steamed spareribs on steamed rice have some bones, just like the ones you find at dim sum. But there's a lot of meat in the steamed rice bowl for a single person. Free parking in rear parking lot. Entrance at the front on Garvey Ave. They have 2 entrances in front now. Left door for to-go orders and right door for dine-in.

Searched randomly in yelp and found this place and this was absolutely a great choice…read more Parking is at the back of the building which is shared with the other establishments. The staff are great, communication wise, it was a good service. They don't hover around your table. They let you eat in peace then check back every now and then. We ordered several dishes and each and every one of them were tasty. We came before lunch hour so not sure how busy this place gets. Are we going back? Absolutely! This is on my list to go especially for a weekend out.
