Great breakfast and breakfast tacos. Packed on Sunday. Lots of people. Drive through is nice.

We got the 3 meat plate and two sides (mac and cheese and beans) to-go. I was not impressed. The brisket was chewy and dry. It also had a "oil slick" look to it. (See pics) The turkey was ok, had decent flavor with a slightly sweet bark. I enjoyed the sausage, it was the best part of the meat plate. I thought the Mac and cheese was ok, my husband said it lacked flavor. The beans reminded me of Bush's Baked beans. Not sure if we will be back. This place is always packed at lunch, but the parking lot was empty for dinner. At $20 a pound for brisket we probably will find another bbq place to go. read more

I ordered 2 meat combo with 2 eggs. For all bacon and hashbrowns, eggs scrambled with cheese. And a side order of refried beans. Food came out, was told the beans are being prepared and they would bring them out when they were ready. 15 min passed. No beans. My husband asked about them, and the employee walked away, didn't say anything. 10 more min passed. I went up to ask about them again. First employee had no idea...shocker...second employee, who originally took our order said "I'm sorry ma'am we don't have any". I asked for a refund since I had already paid. They never charged me for it anyway. So these motherf#$%^& were gonna let me sit there, wondering about beans, and they had no intention of addressing me about it. Seriously. WTF? Hashbrowns were underdone, smoked sausage was old. If you have a restaurant with 72 items on the menu, shouldn't you care more about the customers and what they want? When an order for delivery is missing a bunch of stuff, I should be able to call in and get some assistance. I get it, you don't actually do the delivering, but you do fill the order. I see what was ordered and you're missing a bunch of stuff. All I want to do is figure out a way to get the missing items. That's all. But Ulysses would rather argue. Ulysses, you're the manager? You don't act like it. Why do you insist on arguing about whether or not I have the right location or not? You want to argue about who's at fault. Why can't you just assist a customer in figuring out a way to get their missing items? You really need some training in hospitality. I've come here for years, but I'll never be back. I ordered two sides, potato salad and fried okra. I was getting everything ready for dinner tonight to find out that they gave me baked beans instead of potato salad. I called, supposedly I talked to a manager and she said that I needed to call back tomorrow because the day manager was not there. I was thinking she was going to tell me that I could come up and pick up the potato salad but she did not even acknowledged what happened, just basically said it wasn't her problem. Frederico expertly trimmed and cut the meats with a smile, Andrea, and Nauely took care of sides and checkout, the service was wonderful; I felt like family asking to eat. The food was wonderful! Brisket was hot and juicy, they have the best ribs in Harris County; no sauce needed! Sides are always fresh and good! I love they have both pinto and barbecue beans! This is the atmosphere and wonderful food that has kept me coming back for years! The Tomball and 290 (previously hwy 6) are so dang good! I definitely prefer this location over the 290 location. Every time I go to the 2920 location the food is good and the service is up to par. I'm always full when I leave and ready to start work. Those breakfast tacos are where it's at!! And the jalapeño cornbread is my favorite, I can't stop eating them. When we leave my wife doesn't understand how I don't have a belly! Not good. Not good at all, especially coming off a Brooks' Place meal. So I've had the worst 'cue (HCS) and the best 'cue (Brooks) all in one week. The order: three meat meal (beef brisket, turkey and sausage) w/beans and potato salad. I ordered 1/4 lb. pulled pork and cole slaw. The pork I expected to be smoked. I'm at a smokehouse, right? It was most definitely roasted, greasy, and had NO flavor whatsoever. It was the sorriest excuse for smoked pulled pork I could have imagined. I used the bbq sauce to attempt to salvage my meal, but even with putting the cole slaw on the pork, it was a no go. Also I ate only half of my meal and put the rest in the fridge. When I went to get the leftovers, there was congealed fat sitting at the bottom of the container. I've never once had smoked meat sitting in grease like that before. Husband says: beef brisket was horrible, and "it might have been smoked'. Sausage was very fatty and had a decent taste. He hasn't tried the turkey yet, but what's the point? . I tried the beef. Dry as popcorn. The turkey was salty. The sausage I didn't even try after the beef and turkey fail, but it looked boiled. I actually did like the sauce, it was slightly above average. How bad is it, really? My husband tasted the meal, 95% of the food is still on the plate, and ended up throwing the whole thing out, as it is inedible. It wasn't cheap either, $13.95 for a three meat plate. I think the HCS has that pile of wood in back just for show - not sure if they really use that wood to smoke their meats. Nothing tasted of even a hint of smoked. The drive thru person was awfully nice though. Probably she was pre-apologizing for the meal she just handed me...... I haven't personally tried their BBQ, because I cannot get past their awesome hamburgers. Hubs tried their BBQ chicken and said it was very good. The potato salad, okra and beans were good (I am a side person). The place is clean, and you can get your food quickly. I especially like that you can get a drink in an iced down bottle. Everyone there is very friendly. Will try one of their desserts soon. They look great. Priced right, and no tipping of waitstaff. Win Win. read more

The food is OK. Granted we came in late 30 minutes before they closed, but I think that doesn't excuse the service. We ordered barbecue sandwiches and an order of onion rings. We had gotten a refill on our beverages and finished our sandwiches and still had no onion rings. We had a dessert and we were waiting for the onion rings before we ate it. Finally we gave up and asked them to cancel the onion ring order and just refund us our money. They refunded our money and ended up giving us the onion rings when they were ready and we took them to go. There is nothing worse than trying to eat your dinner with the strong scent of pine from the water that they were using to mop the floors all around us. The employees were cordial, but food is way overpriced. $2.50 per drink is absolutely ridiculous. There are too many other barbecue places around here that are just as good or better and much more reasonably priced. read more

BBQ can be fickle to prepare and do well consistently. This review is based on a single visit trying 3 meats and 2 sides. Other's experiences may differ. Ribs- were fantastic. Juicy, sweet, pulled clean with a nice smokey flavor. Chicken (thighs)- were pretty darn good. A little dry towards the edges, but interior was nice. Smoke flavor was spot on. Brisket- inedible. Left it on the plate. It was the driest piece of meat I've ever tried. No amount of sauce could salvage it. Had a nice smoke ring though. Coleslaw- bland. Salt and pepper helped, but bland over all. Potato salad- gross. Way too much vinegar. Bonus- good bread variety and excellent BBQ sauce. Value would have been great if everything tasted good. Ribs were the highlight. read more

I eat anything and everything and always give a restaurant 2 tries before making a decision. My first experience with the Tomball location of Harris County Smokehouse was a year ago, cant remember the details but remember ordering dinner for 6 to go and being unhappy with the food quality. Second visit was on Sunday night, 12/2 approx 7 pm, and ordered a chopped beef sandwich from the drive thru. Sadly the sandwich was such a appointment's, there was plenty of meat and sauce but the meat was full of chunks of fat. Jar breaker size chunks of fat. Yes, I was driving and eating in the dark, but your mouth recognizes a chunk of fat. I had to keep spitting it out into the bag. No napkins were provided which is a sin for drive thru. I have eaten breakfast at the 290 location and it was tasty. Have not tried breakfast at the Tomball location. Maybe I will. read more

Great BBQ in a clean and well decorated restaurant. Ribs were dry-rubbed, but juicy, tender, but not over cooked. Got both the sliced brisket and chopped brisket, both were very flavorful and moist. They also have a number of great sides, salads, and deserts. Staff was friendly and helpful. read more

This small chain has to be the worst BBQ in Houston. The BBQ tast like it was cooked in an oven. No flavor, seasoning just plain. the best item was the hot rolls they have for you to get with your meal. AWFUL! I would never recommend this place to anyone. The staff is extremely rude and do not know customer service. I had received old potato salad through the drive thru, so when I called up there, I was told I would receive a refund for the side. When I arrived the next day he accused me of trying to get free meals. When I called the other location the employees who knew exactly who I was talking about and said that manager has ALWAYS BEEN RUDE. His name was Ulysses, and we will NOT be coming back. The food is extremely over priced as well...a two meat dinner and a salad was $26. Avoid this place at all costs. UPDATED: The potato salad was not refunded as the comment below says, I would not leave an untrue review. After weeks of waiting we were given a gift card. However, the health inspector did pay this location a visit a few days after the incident and they did find multiple problems and were fined. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. read more

This place used to be one of our favorite restaurants. Easily a 4 to 5 star until recently. The last three visits were not great. We went about 3 months ago and the food was good but I noticed they had ants. Not in the food but climbing on the tables where we were eating. I mentioned it to the person busing tables but Im not sure they cared much. That was my first clue that there might be a problem. Next about a month ago, we went again. No ants, so "yay", but my wife got sick. We weren't positive it was from here but it was the most likely cause. And now our latest and last visit for eternity. We went Tuesday this week for lunch. I had a salad. The salad was ok but the dressing had a weird consistency. Didn't smell bad but I probably shouldn't have eaten it. Anyway, I didn't eat anything else that day. No breakfast and I wasn't feeling good by dinnertime. So here it is Friday night and I'm still trying to exercise my salad demons. I have a cast iron stomach and I haven't been able to be more than 10 feet from a toilet for 3 days. As much fun as I'm having, and I am ha ing a great time. I'm even exercising some demons while writing this review. Yes I know, it's gross, but did I mention that I can't be more than 10 feet from a toilet. Well there you go. Stay far away from this place. I don't understand the low score on Yelp for this restaurant. Our first time here and we loved it. We live over an hour an a half away, but happened to be in Tomball for lunch. Generous portions, homemade side dishes, rolls and cornbread. Sliced brisket was tasty and huge portion. Tried the buttermilk coconut pie to top off the delicious meal. Was NOT disappointed here. Friendly staff and enough staff to efficiently run the restaurant. They have everything you could imagine to eat at a BBQ place. Stop leaving bad reviews based on some third-party driver. We stopped in because we were really hungry after a day outdoors at the Oil Ranch. I made note of this place as we drove by it the afternoon so by the evening time I knew that we could stop in for a quick meal, no fuss with waiting in lines, etc. When you have a toddler, these places with less wait are life savers! Typical stuff you would find at any bbq, like meat plates, sandwiches, burgers, etc. I got the turkey bbq sandwich and husband got the beef patty melt. We got an order of fries, green beans, fried okra, and mac and cheese. The little one usually eats off our plates so we did not order any kid menu items, but they do offer it here. The patty melt was brought out to our table, but my turkey was sliced in front of me and you go through the line to pick out your sides. THey have fresh baked rolls (wheat, white, corn bread, and another one that was dark, I am not sure what you call that but it looked good). We got wheat and white rolls, fresh, hot, and soft! My toddler son enjoyed the white roll and the french fries, which really nice and long and crispy! Fresh cut perfection. They have lots of pickles, jalapeno slices, onions, pico de gallo, salsa, and fresh serrano peppers! Also, hot boiled peanuts! I like boiled peanuts more than dry roasted so that was a plus in my book. Folks were nice, service fast, and no fuss dining for us, exactly what we looked for. Just moved to the area like a month ago. Still getting used to the fact that most of the bbq joints ive been to are cafeteria style. But I would say I like the food at this one the best so far. I got the ribs and turkey combo. Both were delicious. And more importantly, the turkey was NOT dry. Yay! They even had brussel spouts as a hot side. And the banana pudding, Mmmmm delish. And I loved the atmosphere and music being played (old school country) very good service as well. Nice that there werent a bunch of empty tables that needed to be cleared. This review is for breakfast. We've eaten here for breakfast numerous times with the last being on 8/30/2015. It's a popular stop for the motorcycle crowd; we ride up from NW Houston. I had the Huevos Rancheros and she had the breakfast tacos with chorizo as the meat choice. My Huevos were two eggs over medium on chorizo and corn tortillas smothered in picante sauce with grated cheddar cheese. No issues with the dish but as a personal preference I don't care for the picante sauce on the eggs (its a regional thing; I'm from NM and would prefer red chile sauce). Wife's breakfast tacos were a little salty; we think it was the chorizo but I didn't not it in the Huevos. Both breakfasts came with potatoes; mine were fried and little over done and wife's came with hash browns. What keeps me from giving this more stars? Wife and I talked about this. This place is good; just not great. It's not hollandaise sauce and mimosas. It's not white table cloths. It's not waiting on you at the table (you order through the BBQ line). Love this place! Great food, awesome prices. I get the loaded baked potato and I can eat it for lunch AND dinner! The staff is pleasant and customer service is on point. There is also a drive through, so if you don't have time to get out and go in, the drive through is fast and efficient. We always go to the one on 1960/290 they are great. This one, on 2920 absolutely terrible, mainly due to service. Mainly due to the manager who by no means should be a manager. The one on 1960 serves rolls. Always have rolls. I asked why this one doesn't and his answer; "do you think if I had rolls I would not give it to you?" Then a lady, not with my party told him she was waiting for an hour to get her food. His answer, "so is everyone else." Then a lady lost a gift (Fathers Day) he told her to call the cops that he didn't have time for her. This guys SHOULD NOT be a manager. Due to him. A terrible experience. read more

First time here and I loved it! The smoked chicken sandwich was delicious, BBQ sauce has great flavor. Atmosphere and music are great and relaxing. Cornbread is to die for. Will be back for sure. Although the staff could have been a tad bit friendlier but it's no big deal. I think the food is really good. I had the most awful barbecue that's ever graced my lips here at Harris County Smokehouse. I'm sure that this wasn't what Texas had in mind when they practically trademarked "Texas barbecue." Bleargh. Do. Not. Want. I somehow almost forgot to mention it was $45 for three people and we didn't take anything home. Were there any leftovers, we would've gladly left them at the table. We decided not to bring any home for my mom because we'd rather have her eat from the fridge than from this "barbecue restaurant." This was the driest pulled pork I've ever had in my life and to boot it wasn't slathered with barbecue sauce! I literally had to ask them to put barbecue sauce on it! I don't like to leave one star rating reviews. If you read my other reviews I can try to find the positives in establishments but this one is hard to hold back. This was our first time visiting HCS. We first went inside to read the menu and when we realized that it was slow inside we decided to do the drive thru instead since we were feeding two families. Anyhow, we waited about 20 mins in the drive thru behind one car. When we tried to order the lady taking the order kept saying, "is that it?" After every item and there 8 of them. Then we got to the window and she seemed annoyed that she had to wait on us. We were still optimistic at this point. We were told to pull forward and about 5 minutes later we got our food. We checked it and were missing our chicken. I went back in to get the 1/4 chicken. It...was...painful. Again it was practically empty inside. The two people behind the counter said, "one second." Then proceeded to mumble to each other about how to cut a piece of sausage. So when I stated that the chicken was missing, they walked over to confirm with the lady in drive through, she proceeded to mumble and then make some weird faces and noises. I wasn't to sure what all of that meant. So I finally get my chicken and head home. Now onto the food. Bland and cold pretty much summarize the experience. Brisket, decent smoke ring but it was dry and flavorless. Tried to use bbq sauce to save it. Wrong again, the bbq sauce was almost flavorless too. The portions are generous though. But the okra I was excited about but some of it was dried out and stringy and the breading...you guessed it, little to no seasoning. The potato salad and cornbread was pretty tasty on the positive side. The chicken that I worked for...well it was, different. Greasy like other have said but the flavor was sweet or something. It's hard to describe. Someone else nailed it. Staff doesn't seem like they want to be there nor do they know how to interact with customers. Lots of mumbling and facial emotions. Lol. The food is extremely bland and generic. The portions are generous but that seems to compensate for quality. Even after eating I feel bad about writing a bad review because I've heard that years ago the food was amazing. Those days seem long gone. I'm sure that the family/founders worked hard to make a name for themselves and now the staff's lack of motivation has left a blemish on that record. If you want quantity, an odd service experience, and you lack taste buds then this is your place. Looking for quality? Take the drive to Gatlins in the Heights or The Pit Room, 2 Guys and 1 Pit and pretty much any other BBQ joint. Heck Rudy's which is all over the place can provide better service and food. Skip this place, seriously over priced for sub par food. What a downer. I ordered a chopped beef sandwich, 1/2 order of onion rings, and small side of potato salad. The first thing I noticed was a hair in the food, the second thing I noticed was how uncrunchy and mushy the onion rings were, third was the potato salad that looked and tasted like pre packaged potato salad from Kroger (yuck). The brisket was tough and chewy and tasted bitter, fed it to the dog. The quality of the meat was horrible. Will not be back, and I highly suggest you save your money and spend it elsewhere.
