Horrible customer service! Food was just okay, nothing special and WAY OVERPRICED. My order was placed thru the drive-thru. The girl handed me my food in an overfilled bag that was not even tied along with the BBQ sauce loose on the top with an unsecured lid. As I carefully drove home, not 1 minute away, the BBQ sauce lid came off and spilled all over my vehicle. I pulled over and attempted to clean-up the mess on my car seat and the carpet. After running out of napkins (they gave me about 3) I decided to go back to speak with the manager. I just went through your drive-thru and I had a horrible experience. The gentleman who took my order was nice and professional. When I got to the drive-thru the heavyset lady who took my card was extremely rude, never acknowledging me. She didn't say anything but gave me a dirty look as if she wasn't use to black people coming through her line. Ok, fine, it's too early to make a big deal about her attitude so I wasn't going to worry about it. Then she called over another lady and they started talking and laughing and looking at me as if something was wrong. I'm assuming that the original lady didn't want to "touch" or take my card so the other lady grabbed it from me while both laughing. My food sat on the counter a while before the original lady started to bag it up. The whole time laughing and looking at me with this dirty look. I'm trying to find out what is funny at this point. She then hands me my food with one finger as if not wanting to touch me then slams the window as I drove off. Like going to The Nook Grill at lunchtime was a mistake - coming to Harris County Smokehouse for breakfast was a mistake too The place was packed - I've never seen it so busy at lunch or dinner regarless of day of the week. I ordered the breakfast tacos with brisket - and for some reason they came with bacon as well. I was not pleased. The eggs were bland and the brisket basically took over the taste for everything. The hash browns had been cooked on one side only so were crisp and brown on one side and white and smooshy on the other. My companion had the three meat omlette and he said the same of his....all very bland. He's from the Pacific NW - he's the unofficial spokesman for non spicy food and he smothered his omlette in salsa and pico de gallo - that spoke volumes for me. We both decided to avoid the pancakes. Despite their menu stating they make the batter from scratch every morning I saw four tables where fellow diners had left their pancakes not even half eaten. We just left after our first visit. I had brisket, ribs, potato salad and Cole slaw. She had CFS with okra and twice baked mash potatoes. The sides were all good. I would not order the bbq or cfs however. Both were pretty lousy. Brisket is what I'd call oven brisket, dry and requiring sauce. Ribs were sweet and chewy. CFS was paper thin and not flavorful. The burgers at the next table looked good but we didn't have those. And they have breakfast all day so maybe we will be back to try those areas of the menu. There was another guy, who had amazing service who wore a backward hat, said we could eat in- no problem. He saved the trip. After that, all relish was covered, they went and turned off the music at 8:35 and tv at 8:38... same short Hispanic guy. Not sure that kind of pre closing helps get out in time, or maybe he just wanted to make sure we left. If this is the standard, why not just close the dining room after 8 and run the drive thru? Brought the family (6 people). Food was pretty good for most of us. My brisket sandwich was good and 2 others in the party said their brisket was great. My wife had breakfast food and she said it wasn't bad, but IHOP-like, so pretty common. However, the ordering process is unorganized for a large party - you stand in a line and different people take orders for different things. Plus a guy is out in the line taking orders "from the kitchen" on a iPad )whatever that means). It took a long time to get food ordered and sorted out at the register. Plus, it also took a long time to good food. For example, I got my brisket sandwich from the ordering line immediately, but I ordered with fried, and that took 15 minutes. Service was good and the place has a decent feel, even though it comes across as trying to hard and feels like what it is, a knock-off BBQ chain restaurant. I've been on a BBQ baked potato kick lately, so that is what I ordered. Even with the smoked turkey, cheese, butter, sour cream and BBQ sauce, the potato was not great. Not horrible, but calling it middle of the road would be stretching things a bit. The young man at the window was super sharp and the entire experience was very efficient. The brisket and sausage was great and the sides awesome. A nice surprise was that we were able to get mac-N-cheese instead of cole slaw. My family was pretty happy about that. I love this place. My parents have been eating here for years and because of that I get to eat here when my parents feel like buying me dinner. I've had everything from the chopped beef sandwich which is soft and the sauce is sweet; the brisket plate with tender slices of meat and a side of creamy mashed potatoes with cheese and bacon on top; the brisket melt - (which is my dad's favorite) perfectly melted into a well formed warm sandwich; and the the grilled chicken salad adorned with tons of avocado, well seasoned chicken, and two massive things of ranch. It's ALL yummy to me. There is an easy walk through line for ordering and a massive self serve of bread and condiments. You don't have to ask for more, you just go get it if you want more. The decor in here is adorable. I love looking at the paintings on the wall and the saddle seats. The patio out front is really nice for spring or summer evenings if you want to sit out front and finish your iced tea. People have different experiences every where they go. They have a large selection which looked promising but my $9 breakfast burrito was sorely lacking. Took about 100 students to this location last week. The staff was incredibly accommodating and friendly! There was plenty of space for us to sit while not outwardly disturbing other guests. The food was great as well! We went for breakfast. I would highly recommended this restaurant for large groups. It was cold and rainy and a hot plate of pancakes was what I was after. HCS completely delivered! I got the Pancake Combo which comes with breakfast sausage, bacon, and hashbrowns as meats. Most places make you pick one, here you get all three. The meals came out quickly and were hot and tasty. The pancakes were huge! About as good as I've had in the area, and not too far off from some of the local divey places I've been to. It was a LOT of food, albeit the $12 price tag almost puts this into buffet or hotel breakfast territory. Service was great and everyone was attentive for 10AM on a cold December morning. Before there was "craft" BBQ or food trailers, most cities in Texas had a couple of local BBQ options that served a variety of BBQ options, often from a cafeteria line. Harris County Smokehouse is one of these places. Honestly, the brisket was "ok." It actually had more bark and a better fat/meat ratio than a lot of these type of locations. Not bad by any means, but far from excellent either. The ribs were the real letdown. They were simultaneously dry, but sticky from the sweet sauce glaze. They looked much better than they tasted. Like a lot of similar places, Harris County Smokehouse offers a huge variety of sides including fried sides. The fries were cooked to order, which helped. The macaroni and cheese was pretty standard industrial food service. The real surprises came from the drink/condiment area. There's a plethora of condiments and fixings available. including jalapenos. The drink selection is also excellent. The real show stealer of the meal were the hot, self-serve dinner rolls. VERY good indeed. An odd, deep South touch was the availability of boiled peanuts. In short, Harris County Smokehouse is good for what it is -- a cafeteria with BBQ and some other burger and fried options. read more

I have been coming to this location off and on for years. The food is always consistent and great. This time I had the chicken fried steak with steamed vegetables and loaded mashed potato's. The chicken fried steak was delicious not too greasy. The steak was tender and the batter that was used came out light and flaky. All in all this is a great place to stop in for BBQ or breakfast. The description reads- Your choice of smoked meat wrapped in a giant flour tortilla with grilled onions, bell pepper, cheese, avocado, cilantro, our special secret sauce, stuffed with lettuce and covered with cheese and jalapeños,. Chips & Salsa. To start- there was no cheese inside, one slice of avocado, no cilantro, minimal lettuce (maybe a 1/4 cup). There were more jalapeños that I could count and I like jalapeños. There was a sprinkle of cheese on the outside which was crispy, not melted. and some more jalapeños. The chips were greasy and the salsa, lol, was picante sauce. I ordered through the drive thru yesterday and was waiting in line behind 2-3 cars. I could see the woman at the check out window with her mask pulled down around her chin. She did not put her mask on the entire time. This restaurant also uses those tab books when you use a credit card. This seems very unsanitary (especially during a pandemic). Long story short, I did not get the bread and when I called to speak with the manager about not receiving my bread and to complain about the ribs.
