I'm very excited to write this review cause it is all we have as protection against a business. I have been eating at Harrison's for years and they have most definitely been declining in every department. From how dirty and old and gross the place looks to the sandwiches and the food they are putting out. I order to go cause I think it's too dirty. Every table has stuff on it when you go to sit down you gotta clean it yourself. So in my to go order I always ask for "SAUCE ON THE SIDE" and for some reason every time I come home its not on the side, if you eat roast beef you know that this place just puts so much mayo and sauce on a sandwich and just tolls it all up tight in a little piece of wax paper. By the time you go home and open it is like opening a packet of barbecue sauce. It makes the sandwich very messy and almost unenjoyable cause the bread is soaked. On top of it my roast beef is way too cooked. Not even a hint of pink in a single piece of my sandwich.. I'm very disappointed and I have made up my mind today. This will be MY LAST sandwich from there that I ever order. read more

I was going to this place for 30 years. I live out of town and on trips back home I would always starved myself, several hours, and wait the long drive just to stop in and get my roast heavy mayo sandwich. They were always so satisfying and delicious. So why the low rating? The last 3 times I've been there the roast beef so raw the bread was pink and the slicer, always in plain view, looked disgusting like it hadn't been cleaned all day. It was a good long run but the place seems to be changing. I couldn't drive by NA without stopping in...until now. read more

The food was good. I know this was a landmark at one time but the inside is super dirty. Walls,tables floor, doors. The whole place needs a very good cleaning and painting. I question the towns health inspector letting this place operate in this condition. I know there are many positive reviews and maybe all the dirt is part of "the charm" but it really needs attention. read more

I grew up in Lawrence where Harrison's originates from, it was the original Riley's Roast Beef. They carried the tradition to Harrison's...for many years..it was THE BEST PLACE for roast beef sandwiches. My nephew came home from Iraq and we had to stop at Harrison's on the way home..he said he dreamed of their sandwiches while in the dessert. However, in recent years it has gone down hill. The place is dirty and I the heard the staff use fowl language right in front of the customers. The sandwiches are cold and smaller..My husband longs for the days of Riley's Roast Beef sandwiches, that is just a great memory now. When you walk into the famous Harrison's you expect to get good roast beef. Especially when the price for a standard meal coming to almost 14 bucks. However when I walked in and ordered all I ended up with was a meal that first of all was wrong and also must have come from a market basket shopping run. I asked for swiss and mayo. A standard cheese and condiment throughout any decent establishment around the north shore area. What I ended up with was a sandwich that had sauce, mayo and the wrong cheese. First I never asked for sauce. Second The roast beef was not very much juicier than any others and some of the beef was cold. The sandwich was rather small and came on a cold untoasted hamburger bun. The cheese was just your average market basket 4 square inch of american cheese. Nothing special. The rest of the meal came with a small amount of wrinkle cut fries. A pizza roll smaller that DJ's roast beef in Haverhill and a tiny fountain drink. All coming to 13 and some change. Safe to say I was very disappointed. Maybe they were better in the past but for now Harrison's is not even on the radar of roast beef placed for me. read more

Absolutely disgusting. First off, I asked for a BBQ roast beef sandwich & they gave me one soaked in mustard. So I scraped it off and didn't think of it. However as I was 3 bites into my sandwich, I found a long black hair poking out the side.... absolutely disgusting & will never go back there again. Simply put, this is the best roast beef sandwich that you can eat! I have ate at Harrisons many times before.....in between....or after games that I umpire in the area. I am so glad that they now accept credit cards as THEY WERE STRICTLY CASH FOR YEARS! I can't really comment on the fries or onion rings as well as the side offerings because I only opt for that super beef experience! Harrison's has a huge parking lot and a in line ordering system. There are usually 2 employees preparing food, while 1 employee keeps an even pace at the counter, as sometimes this place is really busy. The beef itself is on the well done side and has a mild but appealing taste and tenderness to it. The sandwich bun holds the beef well even if you add xtra mayo, mustard, horseradish, or bbq sauce. I can't believe that certain yelpers here give Harrisons some bad marks! After all, this is a family -friendly, eat-in, or take-out sandwich shop. Not a fancy art deco, contemporary establishment. They concentrate on the great food and service that most customers care about! Prices are comparable to the quality and quantity of food served. I have had many a roast beef sandwich in my day.......This one is the best!!!! Can't wait for my next game in the North Andover area. read more

Absolutely the BEST roast beef around! Had the large roast beef on an onion roll with sauce, cheese, and onion... YUM! Fries are outstanding! Haven't tried the onion rings yet, but saw some on another person's tray and they looked amazing! Will definitely be trying them next. Chocolate chip cookies were great too and tasted homemade. 5 gold stars for the food, but if I could give it lower than a 1 I would. This was my first time there and my instant thought was the cleanliness, it was disgusting ill elaborate on that later - when i entered one boy was ordering and two boys followed. the first boy ordered and paid, then the two other boys, the man asked if the two boys were together (meaning the two boys, not the three of them combined). They said yes and he asked again and they said yes. Thinking that all 3 were together, which i guess is a simple mistake, but what came after it was surprising. - The food was called and an unusually large order was placed upon the table, no one took it. After about 6 mins, the two boys asked the other boy what he ordered, he told and it turns out that somehow the man put the 3 boys meals together on one tray. And they laughed about it and then the guy said I asked you guys if you were together, surprisingly the teenagers were extremely respectful, and said nothing. while the 2 were exiting and the other boy was settling his tray of food, a women unnecessarily said to the man i heard you asking them twice, who clearly wasn't using her head and went straight for the blame. ( if she thought about it she would know what was going on.) The man responded by saying " i know, dey were looking at me for like 5 minutes like im an idiot, their the idiot" after hearing this i looked at the kid and saw the nervousness in him, and he just walked away, spilling his fries with trembling hands. wishing I said something to straighten it out, i was to late and the boy took a seat. - Now back to the cleanliness, I honestly do not know how they pass the health standards, it is complete filth and if they even clean the bathroom is beyond me. The owners must be friends with the health inspector. And the frying station is atrocious, would it hurt for the owner to tell the people in the back who do nothing to at least run a rag through it. - I will not be visiting this restaurant witch I use the term loosely. Although the food is good i understand the urge to go, i would recommend ordering the food to go, because I do not know about you: but i cant eat in filth. read more

As always, an awesome roast beef sandwich. The french fries are also really good and the pastrami and fish sandwiches are really good too. There are two reasons I don't give it a 5-star. The first is that the staff seem like they might jump over the counter at any time and slit your throat (no offense). They are not friendly AT ALL, they seem like they are making it a career to work there, and you could tell them the best joke in the world and they'd probably tell you to "Go to hell." You kinda feel like you just walked onto a pirate ship with a bunch of swashbucklers: "Large, Sauce, Cheeze, Mayo.....Med". It's kinda funny cuz they serve lettuce and tomato on the fish sandwich, but if you even think about asking for it on your Roast Beef, they will say no and then they WILL proceed to slit your throat. The food is great. My only complaint are the hours. My family came up from florida, and on the way home from the airport, we had made plans to stop at Harrison`s cause they close at 10, we got there at 9:10 and they were closed. never in my life has it ever closed at 9. I have been eating here since I was a kid (I'm 37 now) and it has always been my favorite place get roast beef. However, I went there last week and although the food was good the place was filthy. The bathrooms there were always dirty and I avoided them at all costs. However last week when I took my kids there was one other table occupied. All the other tables were free and all the tables were gross. There was even one table with a ridiculous amount of food on the floor (must've had small children). At one point one of the workers comes in the dining area, walks around, and then goes back to the counter. The entire time I was there nobody came to clean anything. Plus the guys behind the counter reminded me of a couple of teenage girls! Talking loudly and gossiping, making plans to go out drinking later that night, taking about some chick that had come in earlier that day and what she was wearing or not wearing. Hell the rest of my family (who also grew up on this sandwich) actually live a few miles away from Harrison's and they now drive to Salem to get roast beef because there is a place with a similar sandwich and it's CLEAN! read more

I make a special effort when traveling in the Merrimack Valley to eat at Harrison's. I was introduced to Harrison's in high school and I've loved it ever since. Beyond the nostalgia, the roast beef -- Large light SM w/Cheese -- is the best roast beef sandwich that I've ever had. I find the sandwich to be consistently great. I plan my schedule to incorporate a stop -- hopefully around a meal time -- at Harrison's. While I shouldn't, I also often grab a pizza roll and sometimes onion rings and fries. I'd encourage Harrison's to tinker with the fries and maybe even the onion rings, but never change the pizza roll! Some of the staff are either the same folks who where there more than 25 years ago or their progeny. They are not quite the "Roast Beef Nazis" but it helps if you are familiar with the menu and know how to order. Trust me the customers in line behind you can be a lot more surly than the guy taking your order. I hope that Harrison's never changes what it does well: producing the juiciest most tasty roast beef sandwiches. Keep up the good work and I look forward to my next delicious visit. read more

What to say...Sadly, no longer the product it used to be. Ownership seems to have let their standards slip in recent years especially in the areas of consistency and staffing. In its heyday (formerly known as Rileys Roast Beef at their previous location on 114) this place was second to none, family run and you knew you were getting the best damned sandwich on the planet. Now you get may or may not get a hot sandwich and lukewarm fries and the staff appear to be so addled or burnt out that they NEVER get the toppings correct. Also, the medium sandwich is now to be avoided at all costs as it is served on what I assume is the cheapest roll the management can find that week. Never the same. During what may be my last visit last week, the staff spent their time bickering among themselves about who would bus tables and empty trash in full view of customers. As to price? Why spend $12 bucks on what has become a crap shoot at best and at worst a sad reminder of what was once one of the greatest feeds in the Valley? It pains me to write this review.
