I was pleasantly surprised for this location here in Newark. Its easy to get to and not hard to find. I was an invited guest to a lunch party. I thought this was a good alternate foodie place to go, different from all the American food around. And I was also pleasantly surprised with their tepanyaki and sushi selections (its the standard and not too fancy). The prices are well average and I can recommend this place since it won't bust your wallet open. The food is decent and nice and the big portions are the highlight of this visit. (I was full!) I thought our service was excellent because the lady server was very attentive to make sure we got what we asked for and needed. I think they have a great staff here. My coworkers and I (8total) came for lunch on a Friday. The place wasn't too busy but there were a few tables besides us. Looked like there were only 2 people working; the sushi chef and the host/waitress. We waited probably 15 min before the waitress came to take our orders. Once our orders were taken.. it took like another 20-25 min to get our food. The people that ordered the bento boxes got their food within 10-15 min. By the time they were almost done eating the folks who ordered from the sushi bar barely got their food. I ordered simple rolls: salmon skin roll and negihama. Both were good in flavors.. but I did feel like there was a little bit too much rice. Also the rolls weren't tight.. they kept splitting in half. This was first time for me at Harumi but my mother in law had been there a long time ago and was so excited to try it again. The service walking in is very Japanese, the man up front yells something to everyone who walks in. We got sat immediately but should have been concerned about that. It should have been busier on a Sunday afternoon. We got sat and got our drinks quickly. The service was great but unfortunately the food did not meet expectations. I wish it had. I had the bento box with tempura, teriyaki chicken, and California roll. The California roll was not good. I usually order that roll and it comes with imitation crab, cucumber and avocado but I'm not sure what this one had it was like a faded version of that no avocado. The chicken was ok my husband liked it. The only thing I have no complaints about is the tempura. It was crunchy and flavorful. My husband and kids had teriyaki chicken plate. They all liked it no complaints. My mother in law had the same as me and appetizer roll. She was not a fan of the sauce on it and it was supposed to have shrimp in it but she didn't see it or taste it. Unfortunately this may be the first and last time we're here. read more

This sushi place is tucked in a corner and seems pretty cool. There's hella parking, but maybe because it was a Monday night. Anyway, I came here on a "date" or dinner, the date didnt go well but the food did. We ended up getting tempura and a couple rolls. The tempura looked good, but I didnt get any so theres that. LOL. My family loves this restaurant. Owner and staff are very nice. We have always loved their food. The sashiki is always fresh and cut is thick. Ama Ebi is sweet. We have always loved their food. Amongst the rolls, we usually get the lion king and greg roll. But today we wanted to be a little adventurous and opted for Bay Scallop and Lobster Crossing. The lobster is placed flat on top of the roll then smothered with a very good sauce. I do think they could do better with the bay scallop. Maybe add more sauce and more scallop. Ordered online yesterday. Picked it up and food was horrible at plain sight. The seafood soft tofu I ordered medium spicy. My husband and I both tried it and it had no flavor or spice. My husband didn't even eat it. Also ordered chicken karage for my 2 year old and it was over cooked. It was so hard she couldn't eat it either. I ordered the #12 bento box for myself and it was ok. The sashimi pieces were so much smaller that any other place. The tempura was hard and the beef bulgogi was just blah. I called before we even started eating to let them know the food was not good but all the lady said was it is good and everybody likes it. I told her no I want to bring the food back and get a refund but all she could say is to bring it back and she can redo it for us. Would not really trust that so decided not to. Never going back. Saddens me to change my review. This was my fav go to spot for Japanese food in the arena. The food quality has gone down quite tremendously. What happened?? I would always order the beef teriyaki plate, however it was extremely fatty and chewy with a sour marinade.I felt extremely bad, when they offered a togo box, there was no way in hell I'd take it home. Extremely inedible; the beef use to be tender and flavorful. The sushi also didn't taste super fresh, as it usually does. Left unsatisfied along with a tummy ache, extremely disappointed with dinner. Don't think that I'll be stopping in again anytime soon. Side note The service was great, everyone is extremely nice and helpful; we were given a miso soup on the house which was yummy! This has been my favorite Japanese restaurant for at least 3 years now & I can't believe I haven't reviewed it! I usually come for lunch My favorites are the Spider Spicy Roll, the Flaming Dragon, and most recently, Unagi Lover. It is a California topped with a whole eel. Whole eel? !!!! Yes. Soft, perfectly seasoned. Tangy & sweet eel. Yes! It may be the only place in the Bay Area to enjoy this. Another special roll is the Flaming Dragon. No spoiler alert here ... you just have to enjoy the experience when you dine here. I've also enjoyed their bento boxes which usually leaves me another lunch for tomorrow. Servers are very attentive & check in on me at least 2x while I'm dining & often strike up a conversation. Ambience is casual & the place has a pleasant Japanese vibe. Dinner 4/3/22 We haven't been here for a few years, so we decided to give it another go. We were greeted and seated quickly. We ordered the Big Spider Roll and the Incredible Roll. The Big Spider Roll was considerably bigger. Both tasted good with adequate portions of fish in both. I would have preferred that the rice wasn't so cold, which made it hard, but it tasted good nevertheless. They have quite a few "regulars" that the main sushi dude greeted enthusiastically. Harumi is a staple in Newark and a must go to whether you live in the area or just visiting. I always get the edamame, a Philly roll, and the flaming dragon. I came to Harumi Sushi & Tofu on the fly - I was getting boba across the street and looking for a decent sushi spot in the area. I had been to the few other sushi spots in the area more recently, so I decided to come here and it has been awhile since I had been here and I remembered that their food was not too bad. There is a small parking lot as well. There were no cars in the parking lot and the blinds were down, so the restaurant did not look opened, but it was. Inside was not any better - it was not well lit inside either. I ordered the sake maki and sake nigiri, while my coworker ordered California roll. We were the only ones in the restaurant and our ordered took almost 30 minutes. She thought her food was not bad because she is not that picky. For me, I thought my salmon was not as fresh and it was a bit fishy. Service was non-existent and our server was nowhere to be found during most of our dining experience. read more

It was pretty busy for a Sunday night. While waiting for my friends to show up I ordered miso soup and hot tea to warm up coz it was freezing! It came less than 3 mins considering it was busy. I came here at noon on a weekend and was pleasantly surprised to see that not only were they not busy, but they were taking measures to provide ample space in between tables, they were masking up, and also providing hand sanitizer for everyone's use. Our table ordered sashimi entrees, Philly roll, chirashi, and seafood tofu soup. Everything was fresh and well made. Their sashimi was melt in your mouth delicious, and the seafood tofu soup was just right! I saw others ordering the huge bento boxes and a lot of to-go orders being picked up. My friend turned me on to this place around 8 years ago and it's been my favorite sushi place in Fremont since then. I don't know if the rolls are traditional or not, but they taste absolutely incredible. We ordered The Bomb from the appetizer menu, 2 regular sushi rolls and one of their signature rolls and we loved everything. Service is fairly quick - we got everything within 15 minutes of ordering, and staff is very friendly. A must-try for sushi lovers who aren't too high-strung about authenticity. read more

Went to dinner last night to celebrate one of my best friend's getting her dream job as well as my engagement, and it was one of the best experiences we've ever had! My fiance and I have been here a few times since moving to Newark, and we've always loved the food and how friendly everyone is. While waiting for our food, we were given a free serving of gyoza. Then while we were enjoying our food, suddenly we were gifted free shot glasses. Later, we were offered a free bottle of soju and took shots with the staff! Such a fun experience and we felt so celebrated. We couldn't have asked for a better dinner, when we were getting ready to leave, we were given free dessert! We will definitely be back. We came here on a weekday and it was empty. We ordered a couple of things and it was served pretty quickly. The seafood salad was alright, nothing about it stood out. I got the unagi don 'cause I saw how cheap it was compared to other restaurants and when it got to the table, I regretted it. It wasn't plated the way I expected it to be and the eel didn't taste fresh at all. Pretty disappointed. We also ordered 2 appetizers, fried oysters and agedashi tofu. My bf enjoyed the fried oysters but I wasn't too much of a big fan of it. I just prefer raw oysters! I absolutely love tofu but the agedashi tofu was such a disappointment... the sauce was extremely salty so I took all the tofu out but it was still salty, sigh. Service wasn't too bad. I did feel bad for the young waiter who was working there. The owner was sitting in front and he straight up told the waiter to come out, do work and to apologize to the other waiter. I felt like that was uncalled for, there was literally no one in the restaurant.. the waiter was just walking back and forth trying to find something to do. I've always had relatively pleasant experiences coming here. The sushi is really delicious and I'm a big fan of the Spicy Juno Roll and Agedashi Tofu in particular. It's never super crowded so I can appreciate that especially during these times, but in the case that there was a lot of people there is tons of available seating. It's been awhile since I've been here. Unfortunately, our visit was disappointing. The rice and fish was not fresh. When picking up a roll, the rice would crumble onto the plate. The spicy tuna was dry and the other fish had a weird after taste to it. Which made it very scary to eat. We had ordered 4 rolls and were so concerned about eating it, that it all went to waste. Aside from the rolls we did order the vegetable tempura and the wakame salad. The wakame salad appeared to look dry but when we ate it, it taste ok. (We hesitated to eat that as well.) The vegetable tempura was good and the only thing we completely ate. This use to be my go to spot last year. Not sure what happened since then. Looks like we will never be returning. read more

Was introduced to this place by a coworker. Third time visiting. Brought family (from out of town)this time because first two visits, it was decent. But this past visit was horrible. We walked in and there was good amount of people but a lot of empty tables. Stood waiting to be seated about ten min before anyone at the sushi bar even noticed us. Lots of flies in dinning area. We ordered a couple Cali rolls and some crab filled seaweed. The crab was sour. My guest didn't want to complain so they just set it to the side. The miso soup was way too salty. Bento box salad had a very different/ odd tasting dressing. But the worse of it was when my son found a cockroach swimming in his lemonade. No way will I ever return or recommend. read more
