    Teriyaki chicken bento box
    Ariana H.

This was first time for me at Harumi but my mother in law had been there a long time ago and was so excited to try it again. The service walking in is very Japanese, the man up front yells something to everyone who walks in. We got sat immediately but should have been concerned about that. It should have been busier on a Sunday afternoon. We got sat and got our drinks quickly. The service was great but unfortunately the food did not meet expectations. I wish it had. I had the bento box with tempura, teriyaki chicken, and California roll. The California roll was not good. I usually order that roll and it comes with imitation crab, cucumber and avocado but I'm not sure what this one had it was like a faded version of that no avocado. The chicken was ok my husband liked it. The only thing I have no complaints about is the tempura. It was crunchy and flavorful. My husband and kids had teriyaki chicken plate. They all liked it no complaints. My mother in law had the same as me and appetizer roll. She was not a fan of the sauce on it and it was supposed to have shrimp in it but she didn't see it or taste it. Unfortunately this may be the first and last time we're here.

Friendly service. Came to get food to go. Got the #11 bento box. It was a lot of food. Quite tasty and would easily feed 2 people. Inside the restaurant was quiet and has a large dining area. There's a sushi bar area. Dimly lighting and soft music playing. They have a large selection of sushi. There's also salad, udon & donburi, bento boxes, misc entrees and appetizers. There's a small selection of Korean cuisine, soft tofu pots and bibimbap.

This sushi place is tucked in a corner and seems pretty cool. There's hella parking, but maybe because it was a Monday night. Anyway, I came here on a "date" or dinner, the date didnt go well but the food did. We ended up getting tempura and a couple rolls. The tempura looked good, but I didnt get any so theres that. LOL. I ended up with the lucky 7 roll, it was cool. The lady was super attentive and hella nice, she gave us miso soup for free! Good spot, average pricing.

My family loves this restaurant. Owner and staff are very nice. We have always loved their food. The sashiki is always fresh and cut is thick. Ama Ebi is sweet. We have always loved their food. Amongst the rolls, we usually get the lion king and greg roll. But today we wanted to be a little adventurous and opted for Bay Scallop and Lobster Crossing. The lobster is placed flat on top of the roll then smothered with a very good sauce. I do think they could do better with the bay scallop. Maybe add more sauce and more scallop. O'sushi's version of this is better.

Sat at the sushi bar and it was a good time!! The sushi chef will drink with you and others, he's a happy guy! Food was decent, fish quality was good, but this review is more so for the vibes LOL :P

Ordered online yesterday. Picked it up and food was horrible at plain sight. The seafood soft tofu I ordered medium spicy. My husband and I both tried it and it had no flavor or spice. My husband didn't even eat it. Also ordered chicken karage for my 2 year old and it was over cooked. It was so hard she couldn't eat it either. I ordered the #12 bento box for myself and it was ok. The sashimi pieces were so much smaller that any other place. The tempura was hard and the beef bulgogi was just blah. I called before we even started eating to let them know the food was not good but all the lady said was it is good and everybody likes it. I told her no I want to bring the food back and get a refund but all she could say is to bring it back and she can redo it for us. Would not really trust that so decided not to. Never going back. Ohh and I did try to eat my husbands seafood soft tofu soup but could not. The seafood was rubbery and just no flavor at all to the broth

Terrible. The chicken teriyaki is dry and clearly reheated not to mention the hair on my ca rolls

Saddens me to change my review. This was my fav go to spot for Japanese food in the arena. The food quality has gone down quite tremendously. What happened?? I would always order the beef teriyaki plate, however it was extremely fatty and chewy with a sour marinade.I felt extremely bad, when they offered a togo box, there was no way in hell I'd take it home. Extremely inedible; the beef use to be tender and flavorful. The sushi also didn't taste super fresh, as it usually does. Left unsatisfied along with a tummy ache, extremely disappointed with dinner. Don't think that I'll be stopping in again anytime soon. Side note The service was great, everyone is extremely nice and helpful; we were given a miso soup on the house which was yummy! Hoping harumi makes a comeback! Makes me sad leaving this review.

This has been my favorite Japanese restaurant for at least 3 years now & I can't believe I haven't reviewed it! I usually come for lunch My favorites are the Spider Spicy Roll, the Flaming Dragon, and most recently, Unagi Lover. It is a California topped with a whole eel. Whole eel? !!!! Yes. Soft, perfectly seasoned. Tangy & sweet eel. Yes! It may be the only place in the Bay Area to enjoy this. Another special roll is the Flaming Dragon. No spoiler alert here ... you just have to enjoy the experience when you dine here. I've also enjoyed their bento boxes which usually leaves me another lunch for tomorrow. Servers are very attentive & check in on me at least 2x while I'm dining & often strike up a conversation. Ambience is casual & the place has a pleasant Japanese vibe. It is a comfortable place to enjoy single dining without feeling alone.

Found one of my new sushi spots.. Fresh sashimi. Ama Ebi is sweet and the heads fried to a crispy perfection. Had hamachi hand rolls and a spicy scallop rolls A pleasant surprise. Chef JJ offered some off the menu ..Korean Fusion rolls..

Okay, this place has definitely grown on me through the years and deserves a new rating! 5 STARS! It's become one of my go to sushi places. Seriously. The sushi is always so fresh, the price is reasonable for what you order and you always get great amounts of food! The service is friendly and the food is ready quickly. To-Go Orders: I've been ordering to-go orders lately and the food presentation is as if you're sitting the restaurant. What's amazing is that it's always ready before the time they tell you so when you pick up your order, it's waiting for you!

I honestly don't remember the official name, haha, but it's such an explosion of flavors in one bite; fresh oyster, quail egg, ikura, and green onions all come together so well. SERVICE: 8/10 The staff is always friendly and efficient. They're attentive throughout the meal and quick to help whenever you need something. I ordered the deluxe mazemen. It has a slight kick of spice from the spicy minced pork but nothing too crazy. I love how flavorful their mazemen is and especially love how creamy it gets after mixing the poached egg with the noodles. Their soft boiled egg is always cooked beautifully as well with a jammy yolk. I love adding vinegar to my mazemen for the acidity. Tried some of the mentaiko mazemen as well which wasn't bad but I definitely preferred my deluxe mazemen by a landslide. Thought the raw mixed greens didn't really complement the dish that well in my opinion. They give a small scoop of rice at the end to soak up the remaining sauce. Rice was on the soggy end but I personally didn't mind. Would definitely come back and highly recommend.

The shop itself was clean and not very busy when I arrived, so I was able to get my food on time with no issues. The meal itself had instructions on how enjoy it, which I appreciated. It was very flavorful and rich, which was good at the start, but eventually it got too much to finish. I am not used to adding umami vinegar halfway through/towards the end and I felt it made the dish not as good, so I'm glad I didn't add a lot of it. The portion size was great and most definitely can be shared if you aren't too hungry and want to also eat appetizers too. I would try another dish again in person.

We were led to our seats and once we were given the menu, we started studying it meticulously. I got the HINODEYA "House" Ramen, my wife got the Beef Bowl "Gyudon", and our friend got a ramen with katsu in it. They asked me if I wanted my ramen mild, medium or hot in spiciness. I went with the medium option. I enjoyed my ramen. The broth was well made but I didn't notice much difference between the wheat noodle they've used versus normal noodle used in other shops. The portion was not big for its price and I was about 80% full from the bowl. When I tasted a bite of my wife's beef bowl, boy was I disappointed. They added way too much sauce and honestly I can't say this dish is good. The beef wasn't cut in the traditional way in how a gyudon should be and it turned out a little bit thicker which is a little weird for me. I would compared it to a Yoshinoya and the irony is that I actually like the beef bowl from Yoshinoya better at half the price? lol. Our friend shared a little bit of her katsu with us and we thought it was way too dry. Perhaps it's been sitting at the heat lamp for way too long... Overall, what I feel about Hinodeya is that they've definitely have some unique ideas in their dishes but the execution and consistency still needs to be worked on. I noticed that there were 4 different spicy level and I was a little curious as to what they were. It wasn't until I asked the waiter that they explained them to us. I was a little puzzled because this seems to be what they wanted to push but we just weren't told to us in our visit until way later... It's a 50/50 whether I'll come back or not. I think there are definitely improvements for a good ramen spot that people would crowd upon in the bay area for sure.
