I love a family owned restaurant, but this missed the mark for me. I saw a lot of great reviews and had pretty high hopes as I saw people writing they would drive 2-3 hours just to get their food! I ordered two double meat plates and decided to try the saimin noodles. My first plate was bbq teriyaki short ribs and spicy garlic chicken then the second plate was bbq short ribs and bbq teriyaki chicken. The saimin noodle was far from what I expected. I asked the hostess what saimin was and she couldn't explain it to me. Google said it's a buckwheat noodle. The soup was so salty and had zero depth. I had two thin strips of spam and two slices of fish cake. I won't go into noodles being overcooked because it was a to go order, but for $5, not worth. As for the plates, everything tasted like typical teriyaki flavor. The meat for the bbq short ribs were good. I enjoyed the teriyaki chicken over the spicy garlic chicken. I found the garlic chicken to be too fried for my liking. My fiancé enjoyed the cucumber side. We ordered the same sides so no variety here to make a comment as we had the Hawaiian rolls. Their dipping sauce was good though! Overall, a teriyaki plate from (elsewhere that I will not name) would've been way more worth the price. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the appeal. I destroyed the lumpia... I demolished my plate of Kalua Pork. I can't wait to pig out here again. Having been stationed in Oahu (owners I believe are from North Shore), and also in south Texas where I met my wife who was surrounded by philippinos and naturally of course their wonderful food and notorious hospitality, I was introduced to that syle of food and fell in love. So to say that I almost broke a leg getting out the door when my wife found a place that makes good Lumpia, that would be an understatement. And it was so worth it...my only regret, not getting 4 more servings! and forgetting to take pictures! They didn't even make it half way home before we ate them all lol. So much Kalua, and I really loved the kimchi cabbage and the slaw was super good...I definitely will be doubling up on those next time to account for all the meat they give you! I only have 1 little negative, I was a little sad at the lack of sauce they give you, the cup was so tiny and not even filled all the way. Its not even enough to cover the top of the pork, let alone mix it in to the whole thing. However, this will not stop me from going back. Next time I'll be sure to ask for enough! Problem Solved! I originally wanted to order the BBQ combo, but they were out of ribs, so I ended up getting the Hawaiian bbq chicken with all my sides as rice. Getting out of my car, I could smell the grilling. The place was packed the afternoon that I went and it took about 25 minutes for my call in order to be ready. I know perfection takes time and the cook everything to order. I've been seeing this place on a Facebook group for awhile now and was so stoked to have to come up from lower GA and be close enough to try it out. I love a little burnt grill taste on the short ribs, but just not too much) and spicy garlic shrimp ( wasn't spicy at all) Great island tea cocktail, sweet potato fries were cooked to perfection! Potato salad was like how my mother makes it with mustard, very tasty and tangy. Wait staff was amazing, cheerful, recommended some great choices, and took great care of us. Delicious and unique food! We had two bowls with BBQ Hawaiian chicken. It included chicken, rice, and cabbage in a bowl. The bowl was simple but so good. The chicken was tender and barbecued well so that there was some texture to it. The cabbage was basic stewed cabbage without too many spices, just plain. And the rice was plain white rice. I was really happy when this place opened up because there aren't many diverse options around and Augusta is still slowly growing in its food scene. Tonight I ordered the "Hungry Hawaiian" and spicy ahi poke. Unfortunately, they ran out of short ribs and substituted the teriyaki beef in place of them. I found them to be really dry probably due to the cut of meat but overall, it had good flavor. The poke was cubed into perfect bite sized pieces (in the past, I remembered the chunks being way too big) and the shoyu + seasonings penetrated through the fish well. I regret not coming here more while living in the local area. I really wish they were closer but it's a solid 30 minutes from my house. I hope that eventually they either move to a better location or open up a second location because they deserve to get more business! Came with a friend yesterday and ordered 1/2 lb of the spicy poke and oh man, did it have a kick. It was good. I don't remember it being that spicy the last time I was in. I got the mini beef teriyaki plate with rice and macaroni salad and it was the perfect size. The beef was delicious and I'd have a hard time not getting that again. I even loved the macaroni salad which tends to be forgettable more times than not. We also got an order of the lumpia and that was delicious also. I came here to get some lunch and escape the rain. I used to live in Hawaii, so I was craving some good Hawaiian food. They had a great variety of different types of plates and also they had bowl options too if you want something lighter. I got the combo of ribs and garlic shrimp. The shrimp you had to peel off the shells which was super messy but that's how they do it in Hawaii so it was very authentic. But just prepare yourself for that. The food tasted just like what I was used to in Hawaii. It was very heavy too, so make sure you skip breakfast and come with an empty stomach.
