Me and my roommate decided to try this place the other night and we had a fantastic experience. The place was pretty crowded, but it's nice to know that it's kid and dog friendly, and definitely a good place to watch a game on a Saturday night. I ordered the horseshoe sandwich which was so so amazing. I cannot rave about this burger enough. It was simply a piece of Texas toast with two burger patties topped with a ton of French fries and topped with a delicious cheese sauce. I ate the whole thing and I don't regret it for a second. Frankly, I would try anything on the menu topped with that cheese sauce. The service was great and our waiter was very attentive. The food didn't come out as fast as I would have liked, but the place was packed. The menu had a large variety and, since my roommate is a vegetarian, they even had a vegan sausage for all the herbivores out there. Haymaker used to be our normal, go-to spot. We were there at least once a week. It's gone downhill significantly, especially during the COVID pandemic. It started when we came to watch hockey, waited for the one table in front of the tv that was playing it, and then they changed it on us to basketball and just shrugged it off because a bigger group came in behind us and wanted basketball on, which was on EVERY single other tv. The mixed drinks have gotten weaker and weaker, and now they have shrunk significantly, once they moved to disposable cups, but the prices stayed the same. The staff is hit or miss...we have had GREAT service, and really atrocious service, but it's usually middle of the road. The poutine is what keeps us coming back, and the HH beeritas on Fridays. Other than that, we even stopped coming to their dog events, which we loved, because they just let in far too many people, and both myself, and our dog, got attacked by a loose dog, and it's owner. They do have great viewing areas for sports, and outside seating, but hardly ANY parking, and what they do have is so tight, I have seen multiple cars get hit, and the drivers just take off. I will say though that they get VERY crowded during big sports events and it can be pretty hard to find a spot inside and even harder to find parking. The place is relatively large with an even larger outside area. They have plenty of TVs going around as well and they are more then willing to change one of then if there is a different event on that you would like to watch. I first discovered the wonder of Haymaker during the 2014 World Cup. I ended up watch at least five or six matches there before the end of the tournament. There are tons of TVs, lots of beers on tap, great daily specials, and the unhealthiest food imaginable. Perfect for watching any sporting event and/or indulging in extreme gluttony. Despite being packed to standing-room only, I never had any trouble with service. The waitstaff were quick to take orders, bring drinks, offer refills, and deliver food. I felt sorry for them during several games where diehard fans were banging on drums throughout the entire match. The Haymaker is the only sandwich that I've ordered and it is overwhelming (and delicious). There's something daunting about eating a mound of roast beef topped with fries topped with gruyere sauce topped with a fried egg served on Texas toast. I was excited about the prospects of a craft beer bar on my route from work to home, and their sign even asserts CRAFT BEER. Oh, I had high hopes, and that's probably what mutes my feelings, because my take is that for all its dressing, Haymaker winds up just being another bar. Don't get me wrong -- the food is adequate if slightly expensive, the drinks are comparable to other places in prices and selection, but there's no added hook to keep me coming back. It wants to be a neighborhood bar, but it's all very plastic-y, lacking soul. That's my bag though, I'm sure others will like their beer and grub just fine -- from the handful of times I've thought about dropping by, the full parking lot before 5pm tells me they won't be hurting if I don't make it in on a weekly or monthly basis. I will say the service I got was good, but I have a tendency to park myself right at the bar so I can get another pint with ease. I've no clue what the service is otherwise, though they seemed to have an army of workers milling about the couple times I've dropped by, so I'm hopeful those customers seated about get some attention. Will I make this a new home away from home? Came here for the World Cup where it was very crowded/busy (as expected). Our server tried her best and we got most of what we ordered. I am thankful that I can bring my family here and satisfy everyone's needs. They have gluten free bread for sandwiches and burgers. Also, if you ask them to not butter the bread, then they will use soybean oil to grill it instead. So, I order for my GF & dairy free kids. Then, I order a couple of the red sangria for myself and hubby. After a few sips, we order for us. The service has always been attentive and have had good follow thru each time we have been there. We ordered the following which was really tasty and filling. 1) Patty Melt on gluten free bread and no butter and no cheese with sweet potato waffle fries (no salt). The past few visits have been frustrating though, because of the horrible service. We always prefer to sit outside, and it's almost like the restaurant doesn't have a set-in-stone gameplan as to whether the outside patio tables are to be taken care of by a server or patrons are to order at the bar and just wait outside. It's confusing and annoying, and I really am only critical of service when it's particularly bad. On my most recent visit, a friend and I sat outside being passed by several servers with their heads in the clouds before my friend finally went inside after ~15 minutes to order our drinks at the inside bar. I gave this place four tries. I was unimpressed each time, but this last time was my actual last time. I ordered the patty melt, my husband ordered the special of the day. It was a steak sandwich. Nothing special, but wait staff isn't rude at all. Just basically going through the motions of their work day. Dog friendly place. Got a souvenir glass for ordering the fireman beer. Con's: crowded indoor. Couldn't get to the bar. Unsure what to do as we walked in, (Hence, we sat at the patio and enjoyed it a lot more).
