Healthy Bistro does not disappoint! Since moving to Costa Mesa in August, Healthy Bistro has been one place I have been consistently visiting. All of their items are made fresh to order and the use high quality ingredients. My favorite items to get are the Açai bowls (each one is good there so I can't pick a favorite) and the salads (I usually add salmon). Went here today and had the Avocado Toast with Ahi tuna and toppings of my choice. My 12yr old got a Quinoa bowl with Ahi, hummus and toppings of choice. We both enjoyed every bite of our meal. The hummus is made there and WE loved it - It has a lemon citrus taste to it. They really should sell it in pints so I can have more later hopefully one day. Service was great. I love coming here for avocado toast. It's not just avocado and toast... You can add a ton of fresh veggies and protein on it and make it your own. It's a great healthy breakfast . The staff is always nice. I don't know why someone would complain about how simple it is to make. You pay for convenience. You can also add salt pepper and olive oil for flavor. If it's bland to you then you're probably not used to just eating vegetables. Add the tomato basil spread to the toast. It's super flavorful. Pesto is nice to add too. What was disappointing was the workers, who wore gloves, did not change them when going from task to task (ie handling the cash register to handling food). I wanted this to be my new go-to local place for lunch, since I live and work in the neighborhood. Sadly, I was disappointed that this isn't it. There is no lunch menu where you can just pick out a type of sandwich, have it made, and go. Everything is custom to order. So you just get a list of ingredients, and you have to figure it out on your own. They should at least have one type of sandwich for each protein, and one vegetarian option (like a grilled veggie sandwich) that you can just order off the board. The deli at Irvine Ranch Market is much easier and has simple options to pick from, including a vegetarian sandwich option. I asked about a vegetarian sandwich here, and was just pointed to the bins of veggies, which isn't really the same thing. They also don't offer wraps. They offer gluten free bread but I don't have a gluten allergy, so that isn't relevant to me, I am trying to keep the carbs down and avoid bread. So not having an option of a wrap instead of bread was disappointing. Place looks clean and staff was friendly, so I'm giving 3 stars and not 1 star, but unless they create an actual menu to make it easier to order, and add wraps as a low-carb option, I won't be going back. It's unfortunate because I really wanted to love this place, I could have been a regular 3-4 times per week customer if it was better organized. I'll remain hopeful that they'll adjust their business model based on feedback in the meantime and would be happy to give them another chance. read more

I am honestly pretty perplexed by how Healthy Bistro even managed to get a 5-star rating on Yelp. Searching for "healthy food" in the area, Healthy Bistro was one of the first to show. I took a look at the menu and was excited to see that their Avocado Toast was the most reviewed. My husband and I both ordered the Avocado toast - his with salmon ($6.99) and mine with grilled chicken ($5.99). I almost think it's comical how simple and effortless it was to create. I watched the worker and can tell you, step by step, how it was made and save you the trip here to try it: 1. Run the multigrain toast through the toaster 2. Slice half an avocado and place it on the toast 3. Add the cold meat already prepared That's it. I'm not even kidding. No other spices. It tasted as simple and bland as it sounds. The meat (both salmon and chicken) were dry and flavorless, making for an entirely tasteless and unappetizing meal. Now if you opt for the avocado toast without any type of protein ($4.99), they will literally give you a piece of toast with half an avocado on top. I left the restaurant still wondering how I paid money for that when I could duplicate the exact thing at home, but better. Note to owner: there are ways to make things both healthy AND tasty. I found this little joint by chance on my way to Starbucks and quickly forgot about my original destination which was right next door! This Bistro is small but clean and simply decorated. The young lady that greeted me was pleasant and helpful even though I said I was just checking out their menu for another day. They have some #JUICEMI products and a Seaworth Single Fin Sludge Cold Brew Coffee in their front refrigerator section that caught my eye. She said it had a smooth flavor and she was right. Since I was there and had already forgotten about where I was headed, I decided to try the Avocado Toast. They start with a healthy layer of housemade hummus. Then you can add veggies. I added cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, cilantro and green olives. They topped that with half of a fresh avocado sliced; sprinkled with olive oil, salt and pepper. It was so fresh and that hummus made everything blend so well. It was a nice heap of food, I had to use a knife and fork. Absolutely scrumptious!
