Love their chicken on rice! Went to the North Natomas food trucks tonight specifically for the chicken and rice. The wait was fairly long to order (only 2 guys working), but of course was patient in waiting to order. When I got the the window I was told they were out of rice. I was not happy as this is exactly what I wanted for dinner tonight, and was upset that they ran out of rice after waiting behind multiple people who had ordered the same thing that I wanted. When I expressed my frustration, the gentleman taking my order said that he would be able to accommodate it and I had to wait 15min. I wasn't in a hurry, so if course I waited. A Chicagoland Favorite with a Wonderful California Twist! Although we've been residing in California since forever, I still yearn for those good Gyros we used to pick-up in Greektown of Chicago, back in the 80's; this is a favorite that I struggle to find living up in the foothills along the road to Lake Tahoe. However, this past Sunday (06.13.21), my wife and I took our adult son down to The Folsom Outlet Mall for some shopping and simply spending time together. It was hot, it was nearing the high of the afternoon and we all needed some refreshment; that's when, from the corner of my eye, I spied a big orange food truck...The Hefty Gyros Truck! "Hey, when's the last time we had a gyro?" I asked my wife, but, without waiting for an answer I declared, "Let's go get some gyros guys, sound good?" It was the best declaration of the day, or at least, the most delicious decision I've made in a while...after waiting a few minutes, we stepped up to the window, all three of us ordering The #1 Gyro (made how) along with a side of Hefty Fries to share, and of course, three cold beverages. As the dude got our order ready, I noticed how clean and professional this food truck is; sanitary conditions and qualified people are import to this old man. I felt confident our food would be fresh, safe and well prepared and the most friendly dude (with a great smile) did not disappoint! The food was prepared quickly, efficiently and for a reasonable, fair price (about $30), so I took a seat in the shade while my family waited for the order to be ready. I noticed the truck was shining, there were more people gathering in a line behind my wife and this truck seems to have it's social media on, because they had all those silly social media logos and information clearly, nicely painted on the back. I don't do social media, but I'll write a review if something is either very good or very bad, and this review is a very favorable one, by some old guy who used to live in Chicago and eat Gyros several times a week. I know a good gyro, I have a taste for that cucumber sauce and the pita has to be just exactly perfect to pocket the steaming lamb, onion, juices and good Greek/Mediterranean specialty. I grew excited when my family came walking up, food in hand and smiles as wide the great plains. Once again, Hefty Gyro Truck did not disappoint, although, in truth what I unwrapped in the shiny foil was not exactly what I expected from those bygone Chicago days. It was wrapped in a pita, but burrito style and the lamb was not shaved (as done in the Greektown places I knew), it was cubed; the cucumbers were fresher, the sauces were sweeter and meat juicier than what I was expecting. I truly liked it more than what I was expecting to taste, it was a California twist served with sweet peppers, and the pita was perfect, soft and warm and I could hardly put it down. When I tried the "Hefty Fries", a soft crinkle cut style fry with both the white sauce and red Sriracha sauce drizzled across lightly salted and peppered fresh French fries...yummy! I was surprised and pleased with both the service and the quality of the food offered by the Hefty Gyro Truck; if you see that Big Bright Orange Truck parked nearby, and you're hungry, I encourage you to get something from these guys...They Are Awesome! read more

Normally this place is really good but today it sucked. I asked repeatedly for some damn hefty fries and got this fry plate with falafel. The process for scheduling our event was easy, with Jamal and staff keeping in close contact pre-event with all of the details, while answering all of my questions. They came as promised and on time. My Boys NEVER let me down! Hubby and I seek out this truck when we are out and about (usually sporting events.) I am thankful that they are often part of the Food Truck round-up out in the Rancho/Mather area on Wednesdays, and Fridays.
