If you see the Hefty Gyros' fire engine red food truck about town, check them out. They serve up hefty hefty hefty portions of Mediterranean food. The menu consist of gyros, falafel, chicken, pita, hummus, salads, and fries. Did I mention the portion sizes are hefty?! They literally pile on the food. I ordered a chicken plate. Whoa. In one container they literally piled it on... rice, chicken, salad, fries, and pita with hummus spread already on it. Plus they are heavy handed with the white sauce. Sure the portions were huge. But my food was assembled like a Dagwood sandwich minus the bread, in layers. Saucy dressed layers. Not how I like to eat a non sandwich meal. But great for a gyro. The flavors were terrific though. Moist grilled chicken slices. Fries were hot n crispy for a hot minute, same with the cool crisp salad before the blend of layers of taste crept in which didn't take long. My salad got lost in the layers and I couldn't distinguish that stand alone flavor.

Flavor bomb! The staff were efficient and effective handling orders and food prep. The food truck dynamic is standard across most. The lack of prices on the side was a bit frustrating, I prefer to decide on my food based on the prices. We ordered a gyro which came chock full of ingredients. I think the unique ingredient is banana peppers! Super good. The meat and sauces were flavorful. $14 for one of these seems a bit steep to me, but for a quick and easy lunch, I'd recommend it.

Quick and kind service, definitely worth the line. Gyro Pita - 9/10 Very nicely seasoned, salty and acidic combo works well. Good amount of food, even if messy. Peppercinis add a nice amount of heat.

Hefty Gyro is my gyro! A gyro pita and a side of falafel at Food Truck Friday in Idlewild Park in Reno from a Sacramento food truck. The pita is warm and holds together the lamb meat, tzatziki sauce and fresh vegetables just fine. It was a perfect pita wrap. The falafel was not made into patties it was more freeform chunks. Some were very crispy and others near to doughy. The taste was ok but texture off. A small cup of sauce would have helped. I enjoyed the meal but the falafel has to be in patties that cook evenly. The pita is worth another visit so stop by and try it or one of the other wonderful looking items on the menu.

Hefty Gyros was one of the food trucks at my work today that comes every Friday and I finally decided to check them out for lunch. I ordered the Chicken on Rice plate which is a HEFTY amount of food - it comes with rice, chicken, a salad, pita bread, hummus and even fries! Everything was nicely seasoned and you definitely get some bang for your buck! So filling! Service was friendly and quick! I can't really comment on the ambiance as it is a food truck, but you can tell their food is fresh and there was a longer line to order than the other food trucks that were around. I love Mediterranean food and I can definitely see myself ordering from them again!

So good! That's all you need to know. Everything on their menu was amazing, but their fries? Those were the main event right there! 10/10. Had the chance to try them at a work event and I honestly wished I lived closer to their pop areas so that I can enjoy it over and over again. The staff was super friendly and had great energy even with the mass amount of people they had coming to their window. I got the fries with a combo meat option and it was so loaded up you had a good bite each time. Can't wait for another opportunity to have their food again.

Every time they come to Travis Air Force Base with a food truck, I go to Hefty Gyros. Their Gyro Pita is fire. There fries are fire. Hummus is fire. Everything is so good and the customer service is great. Plus, the speed at which they make food is unheard of. 5 out of 5 and highly recommend!

I absolutely loved the loaded fries, each and everything in the loaded fries had its own taste, and each bite was so flavorful. I usually do not like fries/food from outside because they are overdone with salt but these were perfect and I cannot wait to eat them again. I highly recommend you try the loaded fries already. If you ever see Hefty Gyros pulled up, do yourself a favor and get in line! Not only is the food absolutely delicious, but the customer service is what really stood out. Even with a steady flow of people ordering, they were kind, patient, and attentive to everyone. They took their time to make sure orders were right and made every customer feel valued which isn't always easy in a fast-paced food truck setting. And the portions? HEFTY is the perfect name. Short review: Disappointing, quality has gone downhill Long review: I used to love Hefty Gyros after trying them 6 years ago. Their gyros were excellent (tasty, very fresh bread, fries well cooked). I haven't eaten there for a while because they stopped posting their location on Facebook. I was very excited to eat again after at least a year, even after I already ate lunch. When I got there they had sold out of the regular gyro and only had chicken. Very disappointing for the following reasons: 1. Fries were lukewarm and limp 2. The spicy sauce they used didn't taste very good and there was too much of it on the fries 3. They used to have crinkle cut fries and now they are shoestring 4. The chicken was dry despite being drenched in hot sauce 5. Pricey, $20 for a gyro, fries and drink I'm hoping this was just a one off bad meal. Also they might get more business by posting their location on Facebook as well as not everyone uses Instagram. read more

HG never ceases to amaze us with its great food and service. We ALWAYS go to the food truck at Sacramento Republic games - they are a mainstay for us. We get the gyros pita and the falafel pita - something we look forward to before each match the Boys in Red play. Each pita is packed solid with gyros (or falafel) delicious sauce, vegetables, and no skimping on the pepperoncini (which we LOVE). Whether you're at the soccer match or out and about ... when you see HG ... get you some delicious () food!!!! read more

Hefty Gyros was my go at SolBlume. I felt like it was the only place/truck that actually had food food. I ate here on both days! I ordered the gyro on rice on the first day and gyro pita on the second day. Food tasted great on both days! It definitely filled me up and kept me full for the rest of the night. It is more on the pricy side since it was at a festival, but it's say it was worth it for what you get. The food came out quickly too. Hefty Gyros is a food truck in the Sacramento area that serves gyros, chicken, and falafel in either a pita or rice plate. I visited the Hefty Gyro food truck at an event in North Natomas and ordered the gyro pita, which was $12. The gyro was already prepared because the worker handed it to me immediately after paying. I was a bit surprised it wasn't made to order. The worker stated that gyro was beef and lamb. The gyro in the pita was too salty, most pieces were not tender, and it wasn't hot. The pita bread was good, but the gyro pita altogether with the vegetables was underwhelming. It wasn't bad, it was just okay. I'll probably try something different next time. There were no problems with customer service. It was a very quick transaction as I just ordered, paid, and the food came out instantly. There is a 75 cents charge if you pay with credit card, which is stated on the food truck. read more

what a gem hefty gyros is! we stumbled upon them by chance, but it was meant to be! the team are extremely outgoing and friendly. the food is absolutely divine. we ordered the gyro pita which had a jam packed amount of flavor with the pepperoncinis. the hefty fries with gyro were so good. the meat paired perfectly with the fries and was seasoned so well. the fries were crispy and not soggy at all! will definitely keep my eyes peeled for the truck when i'm in the area. i'm getting hungry again just thinking about it! read more

Full disclosure, they gave me the meal for free. I had gone up to order not realizing that they were catering an event. The owner was nice enough to give me a free meal and I gotta say the gyro was one of the better ones I had. It was filled with juicy flavorful meat unlike most place that don't really fill it up like that. I happened to stop by Hefty Gyros' food truck during soccer playoffs in Davis on a warm Sunday for lunch. The Gyro Salad at this food truck was generously sized with fresh ingredients. The flavors werespot on, delicious! The service was efficient and friendly, graciously asking if I would like extra onion as well as some falafel added in! The server was exceptionally congenial thanking me for coming by and later, as I passed by, even asking me how my meal was and again thanking me for coming in! Love Love yout Gyro Pita. In 1976 while going to college in Madison WI I was introduced to a Gyro Pita. In all these years since I have been trying to find someone who could make the Gryo as good as the one in 1976. I finally found one, Hefty Gryo is a true Gryo Pita. My only complaint is they do not keep their social media up to date so I only know that I can get it at the Folsom outlet on the weekend, but when I have the craving during the week, I have no idea where they are. Please update your social media daily. Thank you for making such a wonderful sandwich. read more

Delicious flavorful food with a good portion. I had the falafel rice plate and large special fries. I enjoyed the falafel rice plate- it came with side salad, fries, and hummus and pita. The flavors were bright and bold without being overpowering. The fries on the rice plate were seasoned well. I wish my side order of special fries were seasoned more though. Some seeds or texture in the falafel threw me off a bit. The service was fairly quick. The truck is huge! I'd order food from here again. read more

We were at Pipeworks and saw their food truck outside so we decided to try it out. We split the chicken pita but they said the fryer wasn't working so we got extra meat to compensate for the lack of fries in the pita. The chicken has a strong black pepper flavor but I liked it a lot, I also liked the veggies on the pita. I would get this again for sure. read more

There were a lot of gold accents and beautiful lighting, which absolutely added to the overall vibe of the interior. The entire environment was even calming, peaceful, and comfortable. Chicken Gyro meat, arugula, lettuce, red onion, tomatoes, tzatziki, and I had a choice of regular or spicy aïoli. Again, I asked her how spicy the spicy aioli was, and she said it was a bit spicy. The fries were more like small wedges, and they were tender and well seasoned. The rice was just your average white rice, but it did have a very good texture The chicken was tender and flavorful, and again, everything played very well with each other. The spicy aïoli was about halfway up the scale of what I like for spicy, but it had an amazing flavor. I mixed everything together, including the spicy aïoli, and it made for the perfect bite. It came with a few more pieces of that tender pita bread. I ended up with about half of my dip trio, and half of my main course. Enough to take Home for another full meal. I looked up the origin and it turns out Wushiland is a spin off from the Taiwanese boba chain 50嵐 (if you speak mandarin, it says Wushi Lan). Located on Sutterville in a tiny strip mall with minimal parking right next to the Freeport area where there are plenty of good eats, some of which are my favorite places in Sac to eat at, Wushiland is in an optimal location. Bright, clean, and with a decent amount of seating, you have the option to order from kiosks or up front at the counter. The AC was blowing cold and a nice respite from the El Niño heat. The workers are friendly and drinks are made quickly. Be advised that the drinks are voluminous, especially if you're like me and ask for less ice. Coming from someone who considers Chicha San Chen their favorite Taiwanese tea chain (but alas we don't have it in Sac), the difference in quantity is huge. Obviously if you're looking for a refined style of tea chain, Wushiland doesn't compare, but still the taste of their teas shine through and there is a good variety for everyone's palate. The first time I tried their earl grey tea because I have been craving an earl grey for a while, and that was deliciously smooth. The mini boba were so fun to chew on, and I usually prefer them over the regular size. They provide a ton of boba here as well. The next time I had their yakult green tea and that was very refreshing indeed. Both times my husband went with fruit teas, and had nice remarks to say about both of his drinks. He also tried their new QQubes and their texture was very QQ (I had a sample). We will most certainly return to Wushiland, especially since it's so accessible. I often go to food truck events seeking out new and great food. But sometimes its hard to figure out which ones i should get food from. so how does this truck stand out from the rest? When you first see the food truck, hefty gyros, you are automatically drawn to it. first off, there truck is a bright "fire engine red" color with contrasting bright pictures that are very clear and help you get a sense of fresh mouthwatering food before you have even order. The prices are also in a nice bold font so you can easily get a sense of what you are paying and compare prices before you get up to order. And the prices are very reasonable, much cheaper than many other gyro places i have been to, and cheaper than most other food trucks. When you get up to the truck to order you are immediately greeted by there friendly staff. If you have any questions about the food they are very helpful about explaining things, and helping you choose the best dish for your specific taste. I have actually tried every item on there menu... I love them all. Was sooo excited to try their food for the first time today but was severely disappointed! I arrived 20 min after they opened at 4pm. By nearly 6pm I was still waiting in line JUST TO ORDER FOOD! They were concentrating mainly on online orders and leaving the long line of people waiting to order on the back burner. It was not fair because a lot of people were waiting in line before a lot of the online orders came in, but those online orders got their food first. The food truck should have either shut down in person orders or online orders. Because it was very clear that they could not handle both. As time went on, the crowd of online orders grew bigger and bigger. Which meant they were taking orders from my line slower and slower. It was literally only ONE order taken from my line every 12-15 min. Seeing that it would take over 2 hours for me to get my food and let alone order, I decided to leave and figure out a plan B dinner for my hungry family. I was excited for the food truck to come to my town because of the convenience. But over 2 hours for food?? I should have just driven to Falafal Guys in Yuba City. To whom it may be of use, Hefty Gyros is the best gyros i've ever had. I have had there food many times but today they finally stopped by my place of work. I tried there gyro pita with side fries at Kaiser Permanente in Elk Grove. I usually am a chicken on rice guy but i wanted to see what the hype was on the gyro. (Side Note there chicken and rice is AMAZING). As upon order the food was served in less than 2 minutes per usual. That is something I love about this truck, staff is super nice and quick. Usually when that happens at other places it comes with the cost of bad quality but the gyro and fries were amazing. They were perfectly cooked and seasoned, the gyro was at the perfect taste of tenderness. The sauce really was something otherworldly. It truly is a flavor bomb upon the first bite. The young gentlemen who helped me even added a baklava free of charge after recognizing me. All in all Hefty Gyros has always been top notch to my family and friends. It was just great i was able to show a few colleagues and boast about how i've been going to this delicious spot for so long. Thank you Hefty Team! read more

Another Homerun Food truck in town: HEFTY GYROS. And Im giving them a solid and strong 4. A little different than traditional gyro where the meat is stacked and pressed on a huge skewer and cooked rotisserie style. HEFTY GYROS serves the same meats but cooked more individually instead of large skewer and thats understandable since you never know how many to expect at different locations. I ordered the biggest platter they had. 3 meats were lamb, chicken and beef. ALL were fantastic. Great taste and perfectly cooked. The tasiki sauce was mildly spicy but just right. The crew was friendly and it was cooked pretty fast. The only reason I rated it 4 Stars is because they didnt have any rice. I dont know if they forgot to bring it but it was early in the evening and Im sure they didnt run out yet. The least they could have done is lower the price a buck or two to make up for no rice. I didnt ask as I was more interested to see if they were gonna offer but they didnt. No big problem. GO TO HEFTY GYROS at the next SACTOMOFO event near you. read more

Hefty Gyros truly saved the day! After another food truck canceled last-minute, I reached out to them just one night before our school event, and they didn't hesitate to come through. Jamal, the owner, was incredibly responsive and kind. Within minutes of talking to him, I felt completely reassured. Hefty Gyros showed up professional, prepared, and full of positive energy, and let me tell you, they were the sensation of the night! Everyone was raving about how freakin' amazing the food was. This place has a food truck that comes by where I work a lot of weekends and they are AWESOME. The guy at the window (I don't know his name, but it's always the same nice guy!) will take good care of you. So I get the pita gyro with lamb. The pita is thick and fresh, super delicious. The tzatziki sauce (cucumber yogurt sauce) is light and refreshing with a hint of sweetness that pairs really well with the slight spice of the meat. Fresh veggies finish off the gyro. This is soooo tasty! Literally beats any other gyro restaurant/food truck in the area, and let me tell you I've been to many (ex: Gyro2Go SacState, Shah's in Davis, Kabob and Gyro Grill, etc...) They never disappoint with the amount of food, taste of food, and CUSTOMER SERVICE. They are so friendly...One thing I cannot stand is for bad service (and obviously bad food), but their service is on point. If you were hesitant, I'm telling you to try them out and you will return! First time trying them out at The Berryessa Gap last night in Winters! Amazing food! The flavors were incredible! Hubby wasn't sure he was a Gyro fan or not, but quickly became one after tasting their amazing food. The owner was incredibly friendly and definitely wanted everyone's experience to be top notch! Wow! The first time I ate here, I had falafel. I've tried falafel at other restaurants and it's always dry. But the falafel at Hefty Gyro was crispy and delicious outside and warm and moist inside. A puffy cloud of yumminess! The next time I went, I had a chicken gyro. This was by far the best gyro I have ever had! But the best thing about Hefty Gyro, is the people. Hefty Gyros was a fantastic experience. They were catered for the company I work for and I have nothing but good things to say. Their customer service was absolutely amazing, very friendly and helpful. They had the food made very quickly and very fresh. What I ordered were the Hefty Fries with Gyro and Chicken mix. I had the ultimate (no lamb) and split the special fries. I have heard great things about them but was nervous about it not living up to it. Let me tell you it did and more. Not over priced like some food trucks can be which was a nice surprise. It was more than delicious, it amazingly satisfying with just enough kick not to over power the flavor of everything else. I can honestly say Hefty Gyros is one of the best gyro places in Sacramento. I'm from the East coast, I love gyros gyro cheese fry yummm. But Hefty Gyro pitta is to die for. I've been missing my East coast food so much. The taste of hefty gyros brings it home for me it's so flavorful. I follow these guys everywhere. I LOVE LOVEEE, HEFTY GRYOS! I would buy it over and over if I could. The first time I tried their food, was on 4th of July this yr 25. I literally fell in love with their food, it tastes so good. Food is absolutely amazing!!! My personal favorite is the chicken over rice plate. The chicken is nice and tender and once I taste the rice I can stop devouring it. The salad is nice and refreshing and overall it's a delicious meal and my favorite lunch spot. 10/10 recommend. Staff is always super polite and get my food to me quickly. I LOVE Hefty Gyros. They started coming to our community a couple times a week, and I'm not ashamed to say I've had them at least once a week for the past month. Tonight I ordered the specialty fries and they forgot the tzatziki sauce and sriracha. When I went back, they were more than happy to add a lot of sauce, but even gave us some baklava. Grabbed a chicken pita & some baklava during Food Truck Thursdays in Antioch and I've got to say that the pita was so FIRE . 10/10 on flavor & spice level. Probably one of the best I've ever had & I look forward to trying more items from the menu, KEEP IT UP!!
