This by the far worse Vietnamese sandwich I had. It is not authentic Vietnamese sandwich. I am from California and had many Banh mi and this was not good at all. I got the $10 foot long lemongrass beef sandwich. It had little beef and was not flavorful. It had a lot of mayonnaise as my cucumber got soggy. I saw it had more than 4 star rating and thought I give it a try. In top of this, poor service. You got teenage boys cooking the food and making sandwiches. I asked what was their most popular sandwiches that they sell, the boy just tells me what's on the menu as listed on item one and two on their board. I tell him I want one foot and he thought I wanted half a foot. I had to wait more than 10 minutes just for one foot sandwich. Generally, it takes a couple of minutes to make the sandwich. I was only customer in the store since I got there when it just opened. I asked what is their sluggish coconut drink. The response is from powder. I was expecting more fresh coconut sluggish. Thank goodness I didn't ordered since it is just powder drink. If you are Asian craving for Banh mi, you will be disappointed. Do not come here. read more

TL;DR: double check your order. A bit on the spendy side for a sandwich that looks more filling that it actually is. Parking: small shared lot but almost always an open spot. Atmosphere: cafe-like setting, minimal seating, mainly a grab and go joint. Looks almost like an asian-style Subway Sandwiches, without the build your own option. Menu: posted on wall behind registers, no descriptions, some photos. If you're a seasoned banh mi eater, you know what you'll get just by the name of the item. Generally, all banh mi sandwiches have the same following condiments (excluding the protein): jalapenos, mayo, shredded pickled daikonradish/carrot, cucumber, cilantro, pate. Service: order and pay at the register, your order will be called, pick up at counter. Combo Ham: my personal favorite and always go-to Vietnamese sandwich. I have to start off by saying they got my order wrong. I asked for no mayo and no japanenos because my taste buds are complete wimps -- but there was mayo and two giant slices of jalapenos trying to disguise themselves as cucumbers to assassinate my poor oblivious taste buds. If you have food allergies, I suggest you double check your order before taking a bite. I'm not sure if the people making the sandwiches know much English; that, or the fact that the make so many sandwiches daily and it could have been an honest mistake. The cartilage in the cheesehead meat was a bit too hard for my liking at this shop. I've never really been a fan of cheesehead deli meat but I mainly get the sandwich for the Vietnamese Ham, that is my favorite. This sandwich was palatable but definitely not the best combo ham I've had. Average sandwich and a footlong is not very filling (at least for me). Bubble Tea: it's pretty much hit or miss at joints like this. Most of the time I avoid bubble teas at places that offer meals and then bubble tea. I very much prefer places that only specialize in bubble tea on their menu so you know that they aren't just mixing a flavored powder with water. I was actually a 2.5 in my opinion. Only gave it 3 since I wasn't there. My husband and daughter tried it out and ate there for lunch and then they ordered a couple 2 different foot long for my son and I as a take out. My son and I shared one, but to be honest, I wasn't sure what meat was inside since all I saw were the pickled veggies and jalapenos. Don't get me wrong, I do love that but "where's the meat?" Not too mentioned, it was overly salty and could barely eat my half portion I asked my daughter what she had when she was there. She ordered the lemongrass chicken and enjoyed it but thought it was salty too and even noted how my husband thought the same as I with the "where's the meat?" The only thing that I did like was at least they didn't skimp with the pate, and it was oozing out of my sandwich (LOL) since some places don't even have that or if they do, they may charge you extra for it. To be honest, there's not much Vietnamese options on the Eastside let alone banh mi's to be specific. And if there are, I don't expect them to be any good. I was in Kirkland to drop off my Dyson hairdryer at the service center and it's a trip to hop on 405 to get here so stopped by Don't Yell At Me to get boba first in the area and looked up places to eat and found Hello Banh Mi with lots of good reviews from people I know so decided to give it a try. I know the different varieties of banh mi's by their Vietnamese name, the menu here is all in English so had to figured out what is what, I ordered a tofu banh mi because it seems the easiest to eat on the drive back. OMG, it was SO good. The bread is prefect fluffy and crispy-ness texture! I killed it all while sitting in traffic on the freeway back. I look forward to being back again whenever I'm in this side of town to try more things on the menu. It's pretty cool how they have options for footlong for the extra hungry. I've come here a couple times for lunch and tried the pork and the chicken footlong bahn mi. ( You can choose from a half or a footlong with a difference of a dollar). I found that the bread was very good but the sandwich itself was small in diameter so substance wise the sandwich was not very big for the $9 price. The meat flavor on both the pork and chicken was salty and I didnt taste any hint of lemongrass. Yesterday's chicken texture in my bahn mi was soaked/almost soggy or like it was processed chicken or maybe just over marinated to the point of the protein being denatured? I'm not sure... but the juices from the meat soaked the bread and dripped onto/stained my clothes which never happens with any other bahn mi I have ever consumed. And when I saw the wings I was torn...so I figured why not and got both! Lemongrass Sandwich - note: as this is not the banh mi (e.g. skinnier bun), half-foot is plenty! Hello Banh Mi, meet Mr Tasty! When you first pick up a footlong for your first bite, you almost want to say, "Well helll-loooo banh mi." This place is legit. I've had three different banh mi sandwiches now, so time for a review. All have been excellent. The bread is clearly fresh with a perfect crust. I have to tape measure next time because I'm pretty sure their footlong is more than 12-inches long. It's been so long since I've ordered a banh mi with shredded chicken I forgot that means it's shredded to a fine hair. Chicken tasted great just not a fan of that style. Again it Tasted great with a nice flavor. But my tried and true bbq pork belly was fantastic. Lessons learned: any banh mi place serving the typical 6-8 inch isn't quite enough. Nice to have a footlong option. get footlong! I like veggies. Sandwich is really good with no extras but I like a thick sandwich. Get extra veggies, they could pickle them just a bit longer. I'm not sure what sauces come by default but be sure to ask for siracha and hoisin. If you are taking it to go but not home, make sure you get something to spread the sauces on the sandwich or you'll be bumming and have to use your finger (which really isn't that bad, simply dip, swipe, lick, clean). After all, you're using your hands to eat it right? :) I haven't felt a need for extra meat and veggies but if you do. That will make it two meals for a normal person, ASSUMING one person can refrain from eating it all in one seating. One visit I got it at lunch time but didn't eat it until dinner. Sandwich was still in great shape. Bread still crispy crust, not soggy in middle. Probably because most of the liquids you put on yourself when you're ready to eat it. Service: place is run by some young, very well mannered kids. It's refreshing to see gen "young" treat people with an honest mutual respect. This place will get busier and busier I hope they don't explode. Parking: non issue. Granted I've never been to Vietnam, but I've been working in pioneer square for over 20 years. I've had my share of banh mi's walking to China town and on occasion to Vietnam town. I have a good base to compare. Thank you HBM! read more

After a lot of procrastination, we finally drove back here a couple of days ago to give it another shot. OMG what an incredible change from opening week. I got the grilled pork belly and my wife got the tofu. Both were phenomenally good and among the nicest Banh Mis we've had in the Greater Seattle Area (and we've had a LOT of them over the years). The sandwiched were stuffed, the bread was so fresh and warm and crisp outside and soft and fluffy inside with no hard bits to injure the roof of your mouth. The meat and tofu were both bursting with flavor and juicy, the veggies were so fresh and perfectly seasoned and uniform and the staff was ridiculously friendly. I also really appreciate the fact that they took the feedback from customers in the first couple of weeks and really tweaked their food accordingly. Very few businesses actually do that and I give them major kudos for doing so. Overall they sandwiches are extremely fresh, absolutely delicious, huge portions for the price and warm friendly staff. We will definitely be making the long drive a lot more frequently now for our new favorite Banh Mi. Do give it a try folks, you will have a reason to smile for the rest of your day. read more

I have been eating Banh Mi since they were $1.50 or buy 5 and get one free days. My Bahn Mi was lager than normal. I did have to Doctor it up with some Sriracha and Chick-fil-A sauce. I was really looking forward to hitting this place up until I first saw the stained foggy dirty windows on the store front. Costco sells 3 packs of glass cleaner and they are great. The person working up front was very nice smiling the whole time. I would come back just to see her smile. She recommended the lemongrass beef and it was a little tough but I ate it anyways because I'm a beast. The fish sauce Chicken, we laughed because there were only 5 little dinky wings in such a large box. They were very good though. Good flavor and crunch. The tables were dirty but that does not bother me too much. Overall I give them three stars because mostly for the windows and tough meat. read more

This is our to go banh mi! Very tasty, good price but sometimes there is inconsistency in the freshness of their bread.

This place is more of a 3.5 stars for me. Because they are newly opened, I'm rounding up. I went on a weekday, in the middle of the day. I was the only customer at the time. There shouldn't be mistakes. I bought both drinks and banh mi. I thought the drinks are better than the sandwiches, though I didn't dig into the quality of drink ingredients (type of tea, type of matcha, what they use for flavoring). They might be 4 stars for drinks but need to confirm ingredients first. The drinks: - Butterfly Sunset Tea - It's a mix of grapefruit juice and ice tea. Different and I liked it. - Matcha Latte with Tiramisu Salted Cheese - This was pleasant, not too thick or overly creamy, and flavorful. For the banh mi, I immediately noticed they are much slimmer than a typical banh mi. The fillings are proportionally decreased to fit the slimmer loaf. I estimate the total volume of their foot long is comparable to a normal banh mi. For the cost, it's expensive, especially if buying a specialty sandwich. Because of the slimmer loaf and less stuffing, the sandwich lacked the "hearty bite" that a typical banh mi offers, missing that generous, mouthful of pickled veggies that I love. On the good side, both loafs were not too hard or too toasty like others had mentioned. - Grilled Pork - The flavor was good. The fillings are of an ok to good quantity. Half way into the sandwich, hubby asked what is it. He liked the flavor but couldn't tell what it is. It's not exactly grilled, more like stir fried meats. - Grilled Tofu - The tofu is unfortunately not "grilled". It's pieces of fried tofu, that they warm up by pan-searing it, meaning it's oil on top of more oil. It is not a healthier option at all, sigh. I paid extra for more veggies (cost $0.50). I compared the two sandwiches side by side, and there's no discernable extra veggies. I'm very, very certain that I didn't get what I paid for. Both banh mi tasted fine. But they are not banh mi in the way I think of it for the past 35+ years. I likely will return for a drink while getting sushi two doors down but unlikely for a banh mi. And they need a cut-out for the drinks to pass through. I stuck my hands underneath the too low plastic barrier to fetch my own drinks from behind the barrier. If there were multiple customers, it'll get confusing quickly. read more
