this place is good for people who enjoy quantity over quality. service was great, had a super helpful server! the vibes of the restaurant are alright.. smells a bit funky in there (like a wet rag) the fooooood... idk it's giving like affordable ayce? i wanna say i can't complain because it IS cheap but they give way too much rice in their nigiris.. & you can't ask for light rice :-( my friends and i wanted to order more nigiris after our first round but we were turned off by the sheer amount rice *there's a fee for any leftover* LOL - given this, they gotta learn from xfish's rice ratio their rolls are rly good tho, PERF rice ratio and they're small :-) *except the baked scallop roll - that one was FUNKAAAY and cold* their no rice roll/rock&roll?? forgot what it was called - the cucumber one? it's basically just an oversized no rice california roll (since it's largely filled with imitation crab... insane amount of crab #cheap) it was STILL yummy but it's not what i'm used to for cucumber wrapped rolls, it was like tiny bits of fish in there as opposed to good chunks. alls to say: fair enoughhhh... they know their method of filling you up on the cheap shi and i GET ITTT i understand!!! #received would i come back? no... would i recommend??? idk... but it doesn't hurt to try!

Hello Sushi Brea! I placed an order to go where I ordered a 3 item bento dinner and a medium sushi sampler. My order was ready in about 20 mins. I went in the restaurant for a pick up and I couldn't find the staff there. The restaurant is small, but very nicely decorated inside. Finally after 5 mins, I went to the sushi counter and picked up my food. I enjoyed my bento box very much, teriyaki chicken was on point, salmon was fresh and delicious, tempura was crunchy, though it can be a bigger portion. My 10 piece sushi sampler was a nice fresh selection, but I've definitely had better. I would love to try the ayce next time!

Came here on a friend's recommendation and it was good. They have good price on AYCE but we ordered a la carte since we weren't that hungry. There are so many good choices on the menu. Each thing we ate was delicious but most impressive was the service. There was only one sushi chef and one server present (from what I saw) and although it wasn't incredibly busy at 9;45pm/10:00pm, there were a couple tables, a couple take out orders, and the service was still amazing. Everything we ordered were very good and we will definitely return. Only main downsides I cam speak to were some details to the food. The end pieces on the radish roll were disappointing- just shrimp vs the fish going through entire roll and the spicy albacore burritos crispy fried rice was bigger than the fish. Even with those downsides, I will not hold it against the place sincr taste was still on point. Example: The spicy Edamame (a dish we order at all sushi restaurants) was very good, steamy hot when served, easy to eat, and spicy garlic sauce, although very oily was so good.

Went on Thurs 10.02, at 7:30pm and the place was empty. We're the only 3 people inside. How and why they remain open until 2am is surprising to me. Food quantity and quality was poor. Been here before and the sushi burrito had more filling, now it's a skinny sushi burrito. The crispy albacore roll DID NOT match the photo and barely had any crunchy onion on top. In the past it was actual friend onions, now these come from a bag! Service was poor. Waiter did not come check on the table and I had to call for him out loud to get his attention since he was chit chatting with the sushi chef, which I didn't like. Stingy on napkins and soy sauce packets. Disappointed at the recent dine in experience.

Really good sushi and great portions. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, especially the crunchy rolls and avocado bites. Cute presentation too. Definitely worth coming back for! Amazing service, staff was super friendly and helped with any issues!

Great food and excellent service. The staff was attentive, friendly, and stayed on top of everything from start to finish. Would definitely recommend

My go to AYCE sushi spot! Great food! Friendly service! Relaxed atmosphere! I highly recommend!

Best value are the bento boxes. For $2 more you can select 3 items. I chose chicken teriyaki, mixed tempura and Cali rolls. I was stuffed. I ate it all. The chicken teriyaki could use more teriyaki sauce and the vinegar cucumbers can use a bit more sugar. It was too vinegary, imo. I liked the mixed tempura. It was light in color not overcooked like some other places. Clean and spacious restaurant. Service was on point. Plenty of parking. Go give them a try.

Food was amazing and service was speedy! Brandon was a great server as well very friendly vibe. Would come again!

Round 1! And so much more, even after this for an outstanding price!!

I have been to many sushi places, but this place is an absolute gem!!! I went there for the first time and did the all you can eat. Many many generous portions, many items to choose from. Three rounds, outstanding!!! our host was so nice, caring and brought our food in a timely manner. This is an excellent place for date nights, families and much more. I will only be coming here in the future. A wonderful experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone if you love sushi. First time at Hello Sushi Brea and we were impressed! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable -- our waitress explained the AYCE process and kept things moving smoothly. We did two rounds of AYCE and especially loved the baked rolls. They came out warm, fresh, and full of flavor. The atmosphere was lively but not too loud, and parking was super easy (always a win). Great service, delicious sushi, and an overall fun experience. We'll definitely be back!

This is the shittiest sashimi I've ever eaten. The variety of fish species is pitifully scarce. I am so disappointed.

My first visit to Chubby Sushi felt like coming home…read more As a party of one, I was welcomed in and given a seat right at the chef's table, where I got to watch all the artistry and hard work that goes into every dish. It turned what could have been a simple dinner into a memorable experience from the moment I sat down. I ordered the sashimi plate, and it was absolutely outstanding--fresh, beautifully prepared, and surprisingly well-priced for the quality. What impressed me most was the honesty of the staff. I was considering ordering a larger portion, but they actually talked me out of it because they knew I wouldn't finish it. They were right. That small gesture showed me they cared more about giving me a great experience than squeezing a few extra dollars out of my wallet. That kind of customer service is rare these days. What makes this experience even more memorable is that I had just come from X Fish Izakaya, where I spent nearly an hour waiting to be seated while watching people who arrived after me get seated first. I left feeling frustrated and completely overlooked. Walking into Chubby Sushi was the exact opposite experience. Here, I felt welcomed, appreciated, and genuinely taken care of from the moment I walked through the door. As if the food and service weren't enough, on my way out I met a well-known food reviewer and even got the chance to hold a giant tuna head that Chubby Sushi had on display for a photo. It was one of those unexpected moments that made an already great night unforgettable. Sometimes a bad experience leads you exactly where you're supposed to be. I'm genuinely glad X Fish Izakaya dropped the ball because it led me to discover Chubby Sushi. This wasn't just a great meal--it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time and one I'll remember for years to come. I'll definitely be back. Chubby Sushi didn't just earn my business--they earned a customer for life.

The spicy tuna crispy rice is good but I think it would be better fresh at the establishment because it got a little soggy, which can be expected when ordering takeout. I had a cali roll with salmon on top. The fish was amazing, very fresh and the lemon on top really set everything over the edge. The spicy tuna crispy rice was good, a little soggy but I believe that is due to it being a takeout order. It did taste a little too oily for my liking though. As for the pricing... This place is a little more expensive than what I usually am willing to spend for good sushi. The takeout packaging is very nice, not your typical cheap to go containers. I enjoyed this food and would definitely try it again (maybe at the actual establishment next time) but would recommend if you are in the area!

Second visit, and probably the last…read more Our first visit about a year ago was excellent -- good enough that I was happy to return expecting a repeat. This time we left without much desire to come back, and for me it comes down to one thing: how the food tasted. The amuse bouche was an inauspicious start -- small bits of a cooked protein (chicken?) in a standard Japanese onion vinaigrette. The protein was unidentifiable, I didn't finish it, and I'm not sure how it's supposed to set the table for a sushi dinner. Ohshima's strength is supposed to be nigirizushi: small rice, generous fish, with a carefully chosen condiment and/or tare to enhance each piece. That formula worked on the pieces that got tare -- akami and masu were the standouts of the evening. But on the remaining pieces, the itamae misted the fish with what he described as yuzu after construction. Yuzu has a distinct floral-citrus character that's hard to miss; what came through instead was a watery taste that muted the fish's natural flavor. Toro, which should have been a highlight, suffered the most from this. Water is the enemy of flavor, and whatever was in that spray bottle undermined the whole point of the condiment approach. Three of the thirteen pieces were closely related jacks -- hiramase, kampachi, and shima aji -- which bordered on redundant given how similar they are in flavor profile. The gindara was torched aggressively enough to leave a residual propane taste. At $260 for two before tip (including two large Sapporo), I'd also note that the diner's-choice extra piece offered on our first visit wasn't available this time -- a quiet downgrade, though I understand the economics. The technical execution was competent. Nothing was bad in an obvious way. But the watery flavor issue was consistent and consequential enough to make this a shadow of what it was.
