I chose to dine on the Shrimp Po Boy with a side of wings, (flavored w/mild buffalo and BBQ sauces) that were grilled thereafter. Can we say YUM! The fries are not cut as you'd expect, but still very tasty and eye-appealing. You can choose to sit towards the back - away from the windows. Hell's kitchen First things first, appetizer plates were dirty, had some weird goo on it. Loud, noisy environment. We only got 3 out of the 6 mozzarella sticks. Falling apart, tasted like microwaved mozzarella sticks. Main meal was atrocious. Asparagus was slightly undercooked, bland. Mashed potato's were ok Ribeye medium well was not medium well. Bland, tasted like the cheap 5 dollar steaks from the store. Chicken Alfredo was crunchy, barely had any sauce. Bathrooms looked like a gas station bathroom. Overall 2/10, the only thing good were their fries and broccoli. Didn't even have diet coke flavored correctly. The place wasn't worth the money. Captain George's Seafood used to be my favorite place when I went to VA Beach. No longer. This place is ridiculous. There is live music here, although we never seamed to get the timing right to hear it. They do play punk music throughout the night, which is pretty cool. The food, though, wow... Our favorite is the steak nachos which have super tasty large chunks of steak on them. Definitely work checking out if you're in the area. We found one other one a bit more towards the beach and less towards the city. The beach one didn't seam quite as good (although in theory it should be pretty much the same.) This is an awesome bar. Has great daily specials like Wednesday date night, $16 for 2 sirloin dinners & half bottle of wine. I had the seafood stack for lunch with an awesome double IPA from local brewery smartmouth. I highly recommend the brewery too. They have so many drinks to choose from and I always like to come here because of the happy hour specials so I can get a few drinks a good appetizers and not break the bank. Every time I've been to Hell's Kitchen I've received good service and never had to wait to get seated or for my order to. My allll time favorite thing on the menu is the seafood nachos you get a good size enough to share with friends and the best part is that it has she crab soup on it! While the staff was nice and pretty present most of them aren't professional at all. The food tastes very fake and store bought. Please do yourself a favor and don't get the crab dip whatever you do, it tasted rotten. The atmosphere was different, if you don't like loud sounds don't bother going here because it's nothing but heavy metal.. there really isn't much decoration other then a few paintings and giant speakers hanging from the ceiling. My spouse and I were the only people in the restaurant at 5pm guess we should have known. My husband and I loooooooved it here. Walked in to amazing music which solidified the "okay, we're eating here." We were seated by our server Sara(h) who was amazing and offered "water on the rocks" (her words, I loved it!!) We scanned the QR code on the table for the menu. As we reviewed, Sara(h) let us know if we couldn't access the menu utilizing the QR code, she could help. We were good, but that tidbit was a great mention in case we had trouble. Me and my student went to Hell's kitchen today for lunch and it was awful. I ordered a nacho salad and added chicken and requested No Jalapeno's because I am allergic to them. My order arrived with jalapeno's after two bites I realized it was saturated with jalapeno's so I sent it back and replaced it with another menu item. ( I should have left) My student was finished eating when my food arrived. I ate and requested the check. The check came and they Charged me for the chicken that was put on the wrong Nacho salad and accused me of eating it off the salad and then sending it back. I explained to my waitress that I did not eat it and she proceeded to get her manager, another waitress and the cook. They even threatened to pull the store camera. Of course I was offended and an argument ensued (over chicken) on an order they got wrong. They took no accountability for their part and was extremely rude. This was my first and last time coming to this establishment and it was a horrible experience. I plan to contact corporate to discuss their unprofessionalism and as a business women I am appalled with the service. I am traumatized by today's events. Small spot on Granby Street can be missed if not paying attention. So glad we saw this spot and stopped. We were greeted and told we could sit anywhere that didn't have a reserved sign on the table - social distancing. We picked the perfect high top table by the window. They had some good music and everyone just looked to be minding their business and enjoying themselves. Our whiskey sours were on point and the southwestern egg rolls (appetizer) were so good! After touring the USS Wisconsin, we were thrilled to find HK. We were there before the dinner crowd, so fast seating and service. When restaurants are closing painfully early and the remaining ones are packed to the gills, you end up with very little options for a late night dinner. That's where Hell's Kitchen comes in: the restaurant that no one in the group had as a first pick, but which we all settled on anyway. In spite of its "last pick" status, we were hopeful that the experience would be a good one. We were sat down quickly and a waitress came by our table fairly fast. With 5 people in our group we weren't the speediest with our responses, so she stepped away to give us a few minutes more. After that initial attentiveness, our waitress was really busy for the rest of the night. She would dash from place to place and always looked to be in a hurry. At times, we had to almost throw something at her to grab her attention and when we did, it felt like we were bothering her. Here's the crazy part, the restaurant was pretty damn empty. A handful of tables at best. Three of them even left before we got our meal, so I have no clue why she was in such a hurry or so curt. The food, when we finally got to it, was good. Not amazing. Not life changing. Decent. The prices were ok. This could've been a better experience if the service wasn't so meh. And the curtness was from other serving staff as well. No clue why everyone seemed so uptight. It's a shame because the space was nice enough to return to and the bar looked tempting as well, but that kind of reception doesn't need an encore performance. read more

I was expecting something different with a name like Hell's Kitchen, but what I saw was much more pleasant. This is a neighborhood gastropub. Yep, they have a decent menu of food that isn't just bar grub. And while they have a full bar, there is also a decent selection of draft and bottled beers. For some reason, the Buffalo Chicken Cheese Steak jumped off the menu and said "Eat me!" so that's what I ordered. And when she asked "Mild or Hot?" I went with hot. And with fries. What arrived was a nice sized sub well loaded in shredded and grilled chicken. And it was hot. Hot enough that I consumed almost all of my chips (which were fresh from the fryer, very hot and very crisp) to cool down my tongue. Not complaining - it was what I asked for and what I wanted and I enjoyed the, uh, hell, out of it. With a name like Hell's Kitchen, I chose a beer from Devil's Backbone of course. Their Vienna Lager was on tap. And I had a taste of a chocolate peanut butter stout but even two ounces of that was not tasty. Good food and good service. Hell's Kitchen is a nice place! read more

So we stopped here on a whim. As we were walking around Norfolk, we saw it had picnic tables outside to enjoy our meal. So let's start with the cons: Outdoor eating is across the street. To me, it's slightly dangerous if customers need to use the restroom and equally as dangerous for their servers, especially at night. It also increases your wait time for drinks and food to arrive. Not too significantly but it's noticeable. Not sure what can be done about that as there's no extra space on the restaurant side. Maybe request the city to put in a light up crosswalk in that vicinity? No real issues about the food, however, seasoning would be a benefit to the burgers. They were juicy and cooked to my request but, seasoning is a must. They don't have fries but the have fried potato discs, a little thicker than chips. They had good flavor but a little on the soft side for an expected crispy, fried food. Pro's: With the exception of mentioned above, the outside eating area was nice and shaded (stopped in after lunch hour). There was a family with their dogs next to us and they were absolutely amazing people (more about them in a minute). The mozzarella sticks were delicious and the best part is that they weren't from a grocery store freezer. Definitely fresh and at least these were seasoned beautifully. Their wings were crispy, juicy, and flavorful. For my wife to say they're better than mine is surprising. (yeah, I'll toot my own horn). The inside of the restaurant is small and has a "hang out bar" vibe. I bet this place jumps in the evening. The wall decor is absolutely next level using art work from a local artist. Each painting is of characters from some of the greatest films ever (my personal opinion). If I were still in my 20's, I'd be a regular here. Now, back to family outside. They allowed us to dote over their dogs and were so welcoming, very engaging conversationalists! They had a blue tooth speaker to play music and didn't just throw anything on. They asked if we had a preference instead. Then it eventually came up that this was in fact, the owner of HK. Unexpected twist. If his restaurant and its staff are any reflection of him and his family, then this place should be on your 'to do' list. As they were leaving, they even let us take over the music outside (probably because we were the only ones, lol). I think I earned points on the "cool customer" scale when I was able to identify every movie that the paintings inside depict. There were three generations represented at that table and they were a beautiful family. If Norfolk wasn't almost an hour drive each way, I would go there frequently. But we will definitely visit again. read more

When I was living in Norfolk I always enjoyed stopping into Hell's Kitchen every now or then, catching bands, partying with friends, etc. Recently I went downtown and met a former co-worker for lunch and they suggested HK for lunch. I had no idea they were open for lunch and jumped at the chance. I arrived a few minutes early, ordered a beer since it was my day off, and while waiting for my co-workers I recognized one of the staff who used to work at another place I used to frequent. We chatted up for a few minutes and caught up on things. By then my friend arrived and we hung out for a bit, had a round, then ordered lunch. For lunch I ordered the Buffalo Chicken wrap which came with bleu cheese, American cheese, tomato, and lettuce. Then it was topped with the house Hell Sauce (hot sauce) and a side of fried potato wedges. My friend ordered a steak special that was available that day. It came with 2 sides of choice. While we were there the place filledup, and why not? HK is a killer bar. We were there about 90 minutes and had excellent service and an excellent meal. I will never eat here again. I have had their wings before and everything was fine. Yesterday we ordered 30 lemon peppers wings, a pizza and a appetizer by phone and picked it up due to COVID-19. Got all the way back home to Chesapeake and the wings had NO lemon and pepper SEASONING on them at all. Also, the wings were filled with feathers! YUCK. It was like they just deep fried the wings. We called and the lady was pleasant and asked us to bring them back. We declined due to being 30 minutes away. She told us she would leave our name in some jar and they would replace the wings. Called today to let them know we would pick up the replacement tomorrow. The man was rude and said he was not going to replace them, like we had stood something. We spent over $60 and this is the service we got. This place does NOT value their customers and during a pandemic should think about being a bit nicer. I guess I should finally get around to writing a review for my HK Happy Hour pop ins, as well as learn my fave bartenders name!! She is always so sweet to me & I love that she put Mohawk for my name on the ticket :D I've come into HK more frequently as of late, but I've still only been there a handful of times. Each visit has been an improvement on the last & it is noticeable. I was fortunate enough to hit the HH on superduper 3.14 PI Day for $3.14 Crab Dip with toasted French baguette & a $3.14 pizza, like a small to medium pizza, but substantial for $3.14 nonetheless. Tonight I popped in for a brew & they were doing a Yuengling Golden Pilsner promotion, so I joined in on the tasting. Decent beer with my $5 HH Seafood nachos, which were quite good FYI. Service was a little slow, but they were pretty busy at the bar, so it happens. The place has a funky layout & small space for bands to be performing, but it can get pretty crazy in there on the weekends. I like it, it's good, yada yada yada, I'll be back! read more

Convenient to my conference hotel, I dropped in for a quick lunch. Sat at the bar, was greeted fairly quickly. The bartender suggested the black bean burger, which I ordered with a side of fries. Okay I ranted and raved about this place over a year ago. I'm disappointed that I have to change my rating. Not only was my food over cooked and not to par, my waitress made no attempts to resolve it. When I last had the seafood alfredo I was literally licking my plate at the end. This time I took 2 bites and I was disgusted. I let the waitress know that my shrimp were way over cooked, some still had parts of the legs on them and they all still had the "vein" in them which means they weren't cleaned. It was almost as if someone microwaved old shrimp. The waitress was like okay I'll let them know and we didn't hear from her again until she hands us the bill.
