Had lunch with family and the crispy fried chicken sandwich with chips was pretty good. The hard kombucha wasn't my favorite since I felt like it was giving me heart burn. Elected to have lunch here with friends solely based on their sunny outside patio and bar area with large screen TV's to watch a Bruins/USC football game. I was here over the weekend and sat on the patio. While our server stopped at our table to wipe it down, I noticed that none of the servers were wearing gloves or masks. I know we aren't quite in phase 3 yet but the other two places we had been to prior on that day, their staff were wearing masks and gloves. The staff at Hennessy's did not. BEST breakfast I have ever eaten! Twofer Tuesdays means pay for one breakfast and get TWO! I had the eggs Benedict and they were off the hook. The potatoes were perfect and JUST the way I like them - CRISPY! My partner ate the Huevos Racheros and they were really terrific. He's picky about them too, having lived in the southwest for a long time. He also had the Buena Vista Irish coffee and said it's identical to the one in San Francisco that it's named for. So disappointed. This place used to have really good food. NOW it sucks. I ordered a Prime Rib sandwich (beef dip) it was awful. Lots of fat and grizzle and little meat. Cold and dry, even with the dip. Very disappointed. The manager removed it from the bill, thank you for that, but it was so bad for both of us, my friends meal was nothing to brag about either! We went after taking the kids to the Mission for lunch. They still had breakfast so one grandson got the Captain crunch French toast with bacon and loved it. The other got chicken strips with French fries and he was happy. The chicken was tender and the crust was crispy not too thick. Also ordered was the Hennessy burger with garlic parm fries, both were awesome. Cooked perfect. Chicken club sandwich, the chicken was not too thick and was very tender and the kettle were good too. We decided to rent out the back patio for a private party for our baby shower where the price was fair and had great options for what food we could serve at the open buffet for our guests. The employees were very helpful and professional between setting up, serving, cleaning up and helping this momma take all the decorations down. It was amazing that they let us decorate as much as we wanted and helped up do it as well! All my guests had a great time and really enjoyed the party! We had about 60 people attend and could have easily made it 100 comfortably with how big the patio is. I highly recommend booking their patio and holding your private parties there. It's also nice to have it in such a beautiful area of down town San Juan Capistrano! 5 stars! read more

I came here from LA on a random Tuesday night after work to meet a friend visiting from out of town and really enjoyed my time here, though it was not the typical time to go to a bar like this, so my review is pretty much just for a random Tuesday night experience. The bar was fairly empty (maybe 7-8 others inside, tops) when we arrived but it is understandable on a Tuesday night and actually much better for conversation. The bartender (a dude) and the locals were friendly enough, too. We sat down at the bar and were helped pretty much immediately. We did not eat any food, but the couple of Hennessey's lemonades I had were tasty. They didn't feel particularly boozy, though maybe it just had to do with my somewhat high tolerance.) I did sample my friend's old fashioned and that packed a much bigger punch. In terms of options, the menu looked pretty substantial and good overall and the drinks were reasonably priced. Also, a noteworthy aspect of the night - a local musician, Chris Cram (and the "Oxymormons"?) provided the soundtrack to the night with his guitar talent and entertaining one man band and definitely brought the good vibes with karaoke and a few of the other patrons up and dancing around. I have no complaints about this place. Any small town bar that offers me a good time with good drinks and live music without any issues or difficulties with service or other patrons gets 5 stars in my book. I would return as I love places like this (perhaps on a weekend though as a little escape from LA). read more

This place sucks. No way around it. Walked in waiting to see someone who would seat us. Someone at the bar who was eating eventually turned around after about 5 minutes and asked if he could help me in between bites (I guess he was an employee who was multitasking...eating and directing traffic...kinda). He told us the patio was open seating and to sit where ever. The plan was to stop in for one drink during happy hour. We found a table that worked. We sat...and sat...and SAT. It was over 20 minutes before anyone even acknowledged our presence. I was blown away as I kept attempting to waive someone down and was continually ignored. It wasn't even a busy day. Finally one of the members of our group was tired of waiting and went and stopped someone and placed an order for three drinks. It was another 10 minutes or so before the 3 basic drinks showed up. The cherry on top was that no happy hour menu was presented even though it was happy hour and we were charged almost $40 for two beers and a wine. I saw at least one other couple leave after sitting without service for an extended period of time. If you're in San Juan skip this overpriced joke when there are plenty of other great options all around. read more

Robin is amazing and one of the main reasons we keep coming back. she knows the menu and always offers good suggestions and always explains the specials. it is refreshing to experience service from someone so familiar and excited about both new items and regular specials. despite having sometimes difficult orders, the food always comes out right, and the service always is with a smile. the food is delicious and we enjoy the creative burgers of the month, as well as the various appetizers. the happy hour prices are an excellent value both for the food and the drinks. as far as value goes, the two-timing Tuesdays, two for one burger deal is the best deal in town and for taste, quality, and value, can't be beat. We we're promptly seated, the service was good, not spectacular and the food was good, except 5 of our party of 8 were served with 10 minutes of ordering. it was at least 15 minutes before the other 3 were served and they'd only ordered hamburgers. Im a big Bloody Mary guy and the heavily advertised Blood Mary was not very good. I'd rate it a 5 out of 10. read more

This place is a cool hang. Go out to the back patio and relax with some friends and have a few drinks. That is 4 star worthy fun. But the food, not so much. I have struggled to find anything that I like. Breakfast is good, but the key to a good pub is good pub food. I have tried just about every appetizer and only found a couple that were decent -- specifically the fries and the Korean boneless wings. The rest - not so much. The fish and chips are ok too but certainly not terrific. I feel like all the apps are just frozen versions of what could be pretty good options. With so many good restaurants in the area, I would stick to drinks (and they have some good ones) and a basket of fries. read more

I would had given this place 5stars but there was certain things I believe that needs to improve. I came here about a week ago on my birthday with my bf and kids. We were told we could sit anywhere we'd like so we sat where we could have some shade but table was not cleaned up plates and cups were still there, we figured someone would come to clear it and start taking our order or at least our drinks(20 mins later) my bf had to go ask the bartender at the bar if we had to put the order with him. There was this young lady(waitress) walking around but would not bother to help us and seemed to just avoid us. Anyways, the bartender was able to have someone come to our table and clean it, as well as to take our order. Tyler was our server that day, very friendly and answered some questions in food choices since it was our first time there. Let just say our food choices were flavorful, although our steak was a little undercooked it still had flavor and my drink too. I had an Irish coffee and finished with rose wine. The kids enjoyed their food as well. My bf had their Hennessey's burger. Tyler was attentive throughout our lunch/dinner. We definitely enjoyed our dessert which was a chocolate fudge brownie topped with ice cream and whipped cream. Needed a quick spot for some munchies at 7 pm on a Thursday. Trevor's at the Tracks was outdoor only and it was much too cold. So we headed into Hennessey's since we knew the place from Hermosa Beach. The interior is big and open and there is plenty of seating. The bar service was good due to the extremely friendly staff. Food is . . . well . . . I guess bar food. Fish and chips were described as beer battered, but looked more like frozen Gorton's fish fillets (even Van de Kamp's frozen fish fillets look like they're beer battered). The garlic parmesan fries were also nothing special. I hold no hope for any other food here, so no need to return. read more
