The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a more polished atmosphere than I expected. We were seated quickly, and our waitress was excellent--friendly, attentive, and especially kind and accommodating with our kids throughout the entire meal. I originally wanted to order the barbacoa, but our plans changed when we tried modifying the kids' meals. We asked about adding picadillo to their bean and cheese tacos and substituting fruit for the rice and beans. We were told adding meat would be $4 per taco and fruit would be another $6, which would have more than doubled the price of the kids' meals. Rather than doing that, I ordered the one-pound fajitas with chicken and Wagyu beef so we'd have plenty of extra protein to share with the kids. The kitchen was pretty slow, but thankfully the chips were excellent and they kept them coming. The salsa was served warm with a nice amount of heat, and my oldest son absolutely loved it. In fact, the chips were apparently too good. Between the long wait and unlimited chips, my 7-year-old managed to eat enough of them that he eventually threw up. That's entirely on him--not the restaurant--but perhaps the strongest endorsement of the chips I can offer. My wife ordered the sangria swirl margarita and enjoyed it, although we were surprised by how few flavored margarita options were available. I went with a mezcal cocktail that was delicious, well balanced, and definitely wasn't shy on the alcohol. Once the fajitas finally arrived, they were excellent. The Wagyu beef came out medium rare exactly as requested, and both the beef and chicken were flavorful and well prepared. Ordering the larger portion also worked out nicely for sharing with the kids. Overall, we'd come back, although probably more readily for an adults-only dinner. The food, cocktails, atmosphere, and especially our waitress were all excellent, and the staff was genuinely kind to our children. The biggest drawback for a family meal was the lack of flexibility with the kids' menu. Some reasonably priced à la carte options or easier substitutions would make this a much better choice for families.

Giving two stars because the manager was very understanding and made us an entire third large fajita plate and when that one came out, it had significantly more meat on it, worthy of the $52 price tag! This place was my pregnancy craving four years ago and it has gone so downhill. The chipotle sauce, which really was the craving is now completely tasteless and has been for the past few visits. Ordering takeout from here is even worse. With 1000 Mexican restaurants in the area they could do so much better. Unfortunately, this restaurant has lost our business.

Me and my boys rolled into Hebert's in New Braunfels, TX, lookin' for some grub that'd hit the spot, and I'll be damned if they didn't deliver. The food was good--solid, hearty stuff that fills a man's gut without fuss. The quesadillas were a standout, packed to the brim and cooked just right, like they knew I ain't here for no half-assed portions. The birria? Nice, rich, with that slow-cooked flavor that makes you wanna tip your hat. Enchiladas were solid too, sauced up proper and tastin' like they meant business. Now, it was hotter than a Tennessee summer out there, but they got fans on the outdoor deck keepin' things bearable. Speakin' of that deck, it's a damn fine spot to sit, kick back, and chew the fat with your crew. They even got a playground for the young'uns, which is a nice touch for keepin' the kids busy while you're diggin' into your plate. Waitress was friendly as all get-out, makin' sure we were squared away without hoverin' like some buzzard. Ain't got a single complaint--Hebert's is doin' it right. If I'm back in New Braunfels, I'll be swingin' by again, ready to carve into some more of that birria. Hell, this place might just be my kinda masterpiece. read more

today on labor day my grandmother begged me to take her to Herbert's. Since I am always taking her everywhere, my only complaint is that there is not another Herbert's in Schertz. I am just grateful that there is one in New Braunfels. The HEB is New Braunfels has a coupon that in very small letters lets you know that short orders or specials do not apply. Since i have 20/20 vision and my granfmother needsbifocals I always read the coupons for her. Service was great, food is always great, the atmosphere is great. Seems like that place is always full. I remember when that place was called Librados and the parking lot was so bare. Now if you go during luch, and if you find a parking spot, you are lucky. Seems like the same people work there since we started going. My grandma likes to flirt with the male waiters, they always like to joke with her. Sometimes we get a waitress by the name Gina and she is so friendly. My grandma loves the chalupas and she will not go anywhere unless it is Herbert's. She gets mean at other restaurants, so if we want a good mean and keep my grandma happy we drive to New Braunfels. read more

After school a couple of friends & I meet up at Herberts. This was my first time at Herberts and after all the big hype i've heard i thought i'd try it out. We have made it our hang out spot. We always run into the Unicorn staff and our friends. We were greeted very nicely the host made sure we had chips, salsa, & our drinks pretty fast. Service was excellent, actually better than I have ever had while dinning out locally. The food is excellent and all my friends say it is the best Tex Mex food. On Fridays we love to eat at Herbert's before the game. The restaurant is lite up with nothing but Unicorn fans, sometimes you will get some other teams come in and then it gets very obvious. But everyone seems happy. I love the decore at Herbert's. My little sister loves the pinatas on the ceiling. The atmosphere is really awsome. So to all my great friends for New Braunfels, thanks for making Herbert's the before the game hang out place. I am glad that I don't drink, because the bar is always full. I hear that JC makes the best margaritas, but i will stick to the delicous sweet tea.. read more

Herberts is the place to be. The staff is excellent along with the drinks at the bar. It is a place better than cheers. I have made some friends at the bar. I enjoy hanging out there when the football games are on. The hosts always bring me chips and not to mention, If they are not too busy, the staff will sit with me. It is a very comfortable place. The food is reasonably priced. I mean if I thought it was expensive, I would sound like a cheap ass, but I am not. I tip my servers well. I have no shame to the game. I have class and am not one to complain when it comes to paying, especially if I want some enchiladas (usually under 7 dollars).. My favorite part of the restaurant is when the little boys arrive. They have a personality of their own. The always get chile con queso and make a big mess. Everytime they arrive the little boys greet me by name and they always like to do a funny hand shake. Herbert's opened about 3 months ago. I am a great fan of the enchiladas. They did get hit hard at the begining, service was in working progress, but give them a break. God did not have this earth built in one day. Service has improved drastically. The flow is much smoother each time we are there, which by the way we are there at least 2-3 times a week. This restaurant is so awesome. It reminds me of eating in the valley! All the staff is so warm and inviting! I encourage everyone to come here and visit this restaurant and try out the food. I had the Beef Gordita and it was prepared perfectly. I also ordered the chalupas with the chicken on them and my mouth watered before it came to the first bite. Queso is TERRIBLE!!! The use cheap American cheese, it's bland and is just super low grade, and VERY SALTY. Their salsa is watery, has a bit of spice but very BLANE. Very disappointing for a restaurant who's been around for 35 years, six of those in New Braunfels. Beer menu is typical beers, very disappointing for a beer connoisseur like me. Had that been my first experience with Casa Garcia, I would never go back again. My takeout order was a completely different experience. We had a traditional, Casa G salad with chicken fajita that had almost no chicken fajita on it. In the restaurant, this is probably a very nice salad because have what appeared to be a good selection of greens instead of iceberg lettuce. My son asked for Italian dressing, on web menu that is an option. The lady said oh we don't actually have that. So he selected cilantro lime. That cilantro lime tasted like tomatillo sauce. I don't know how they even offer that as dressing. His salad was a small bit of wilted greens with a few pieces of chicken, a thin, sliced tomato cut in half and what looked like someone took a big carrot the long way and shaved about three pieces off. It had a tiny piece of avocado slice. Before I opened anything else, my son said "never did I think that I would say there is a salad worse than chewy's takeout but we found it today". That is not a compliment because Chuys was the worst to go salad and we love to take out salad. The lettuce looked like stuff that I would throw away because it was so wilted. I expect that is because when you put a few pieces of hot food on it and close the lid, it steamed that lettuce. What a horrible thing to sell, they should take that off menu if they can't figure out how to fix it. I decided I would love a salad also so I had mine with beef fajita. I basically experience the same thing, cilantro lime would normally be my go to dressing but I hardly put any on there because it tasted like tomatillo and I don't like tomatillo. The beef fajita meat tasted weird and I would never order that again. For the toddler, she loves quesadilla so we were excited to see that as one of the kids options. II looked like they took a piece of Tortilla put a slice of cheese on it and then put a tortilla on top of it and nothing happened. It was dry and the Tortilla was hanging off the sides with nothing on it instead of it being exactly even and then cut. She loves french fries and ketchup. We probably got six or eight french fries, no ketchup and her other side was supposed to be refried beans. There were no refried beans and yet I paid for them and they were on the receipt. My husband got Menudo, figured it would be better than a soggy Chalupa and taco. He said that was some of the worst Menudo he has had. He said if we've never been there before we would never try it a second time. The lady that took my order asked would we like any tortillas with our order and I said yes. She said do you want corn, flour or some of both. I ask for some of both. No tortillas were in my order. Then I asked the lady since I had never done take out order, if they include chips and salsa like Chuys and other Mexican restaurants. She said "oh yes, would you like those"and I said yes please. I didn't mean were they included at $11.99, she didn't say that. I would've never paid $11.99 for a cup of salsa and a small brown lunch bag of chips out of a bag. I will never do a takeout order again and I wanted to figure out how I get a refund for the things that I did not receive. I sent a note to the corporate contact email on the website...NO RESPONSE I don't live close enough to drive back and ask them to fix it when I have a toddler who's ready to eat. I won't get food from here again and probably due to their lack of response, I won't go back and eat either.. New Braunfels has other good Mexican food.

The place is clean, the music was fun, the chandeliers are almost steam punk and their light bulbs have a great color to them. It's just a cool place to hang bb I had a Torchy's-Tini, which is a nice Mexican Martini and I enjoyed it. I got two tacos - a Baja shrimp taco and Ronin. The shrimp taco is very popular. I got the grilled version but I'm guessing that the fried version is more popular. The sauce seemed to want to accompany fried shrimp. And I'll bet that's really good. I wouldn't get the grilled version again. But what I totally fell in love with was the Ronin taco. It was their taco of the month. Grilled teriyaki steak, Asian slaw, Srirachi, some chopped peanuts -- I'm not sure what all was on it but DANG was that good! So... yeah... I would totally go back!!
