    Two burritos
    Darlene K.

Herbert's in New Braunfels was such a fun and lively experience. We stopped by after a walk through Landa Park and along the Comal. My poor dog actually slipped on some algae and went right into the river that day, so it was especially nice to sit outside, relax, and enjoy the unbeatable weather afterward. We went on a Saturday and the place was absolutely popping. The patio was full of families enjoying the sunshine, and the whole place had a really energetic, welcoming vibe. I brought my dog along with her travel bed, and it was nice to be able to settle in outside with her. The folks at the next table were also very sweet and asked about my dog, which added to the friendly atmosphere. Our server was very kind and attentive throughout the visit. She made sure we were doing well and checked in at just the right times. One thing I really appreciated was that she brought chips for both sides of our table. The chips were super crispy and tasted really fresh -- a great way to start the meal. I'm not usually the biggest Tex-Mex fan, but I have to say I really enjoyed my giant plate of two beef burritos. The portions were massive and the flavors were great. I ended up with so many leftovers that I ate them again for lunch on Monday and Tuesday, and they were still incredibly tasty days later. The only slightly stressful moment was that some kids were running around the patio a bit unsupervised. It made me a little nervous with my dog there because I was worried someone might accidentally step on her. She's not easily spooked, but I felt better once we moved her to the unoccupied side of the table. That said, this wasn't the restaurant's fault -- just something to be mindful of since servers are also navigating the patio with big trays of hot food. Overall, we had a great time. Friendly service, great food, and a lively patio atmosphere made for a really enjoyable visit. I'd happily come back the next time I'm in New Braunfels.

Delightful Mexican restaurant with both indoor and patio seating. Greeted immediately and seated quickly although restaurant was pretty full. Richi took care of our drinks immediately and took our orders as soon as the complimentary chips and salsa were delivered. Salsa was tasty with a bit of zest but not overly spicy, even for my husband. We got a small guacamole and it was perfect for 2 chip loving peeps. I got the chicken fajita taco salad - plenty of white meat chicken and all the expected goodies, even a side of great tasting borracha beans. Hubby got the Beef fajita fiesta bowl - so big and tasty he could only eat half! Plenty of parking. We'll be back!! Can't believe we have driven past Herbert's many times and just did not know what we were missing!

Herbert's is a cute authentic spot with Mexican decor and vibrant energy from their servers to the aesthetics. they start you off with complimentary chips and salsa. i ordered their brisket tacos which comes with rice + beans and a side of guac. brisket was shredded and tender. they offer both corn and flour tortillas with your meal. the Micheladas are also very good and have the perfect combo of mix / beer. this solace accommodates big groups and has great attentive service.

Food is great. Love their chips and salsa. Their margaritas are really good but what's bad is that they put a lot of alcohol in it and felt....a little tipsy after a short while. The server was great and explained very well the menu and their specials. Place is big and most of the time we eat/drink outdoor!

We walked in on a Monday at 12:30 ish and the place wasn't to busy. We were seated right away and able to order shortly after. The weather was so cold out so thank god I got some food in me. The restaurant smelled great when we walked in so that's always a good sign. The inside of the restaurant was very colorful and they even seemed to have a small gift and goodies shop. One tiny problem we ran into was with my mom's first bite of food. There was a wrapper in her beans. It looked like a piece of wax paper from a stick of butter. Everything else was good. I'd go back for seconds

I've been going to Herbert's for many years. I have only had positive experiences. This was the first time at the New Braunfel's location. Service and food is fast and fresh..

To start - I called on our way over there and asked about a waitlist or reservation and they said no, but then we got there and tables said "reserved" so my mom asked and they said they do take reservations... manager came to talk to her and she said "those were made last week". So they dont take reservations the day of or what? The playground is quite rambunctious! Made my mom super nervous for my 3yo niece. Too many older kids (like10+) and some of them kept opening the gate to go out to chase a ball they threw over. Definitely a lot of stimuli so I didn't even get to enjoy the ambiance and outside because they were so nervous and freakin out the whole time. The food was ok. Fajita Taco was good and quesadillas are awesome. However, Chili gravy needs more chili pepper and flavor. Queso was ehhhh. Guac was decent. My skinny marg was carbonated a bit limey but they do make their own mix. Wasn't impressed with the house marg either. The kids quesadilla was amazing tho! Rice is dry and bland, the salsa was spicy though which was nice! So meal was not what I was expecting for the parking that's usually packed. This was our first trip, my moms been wanting to try since its always poppin there. But we probably wont return.

This is a super cute spot but the food isn't good. I had the chicken enchiladas and the chicken had zero seasoning. It tastes boiled. I couldn't finish my meal. I even mentioned it to the waitress and she just said, "sorry" and handed me my check.. haha. I won't be coming back.

$8.99 (July 2024) Beef enchiladas lunch special. It comes with a drink! Enchilada gravy....drool!

The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a more polished atmosphere than I expected. We were seated quickly, and our waitress was excellent--friendly, attentive, and especially kind and accommodating with our kids throughout the entire meal. I originally wanted to order the barbacoa, but our plans changed when we tried modifying the kids' meals. We asked about adding picadillo to their bean and cheese tacos and substituting fruit for the rice and beans. We were told adding meat would be $4 per taco and fruit would be another $6, which would have more than doubled the price of the kids' meals. Rather than doing that, I ordered the one-pound fajitas with chicken and Wagyu beef so we'd have plenty of extra protein to share with the kids. The kitchen was pretty slow, but thankfully the chips were excellent and they kept them coming. The salsa was served warm with a nice amount of heat, and my oldest son absolutely loved it. In fact, the chips were apparently too good. Between the long wait and unlimited chips, my 7-year-old managed to eat enough of them that he eventually threw up. That's entirely on him--not the restaurant--but perhaps the strongest endorsement of the chips I can offer. My wife ordered the sangria swirl margarita and enjoyed it, although we were surprised by how few flavored margarita options were available. I went with a mezcal cocktail that was delicious, well balanced, and definitely wasn't shy on the alcohol. Once the fajitas finally arrived, they were excellent. The Wagyu beef came out medium rare exactly as requested, and both the beef and chicken were flavorful and well prepared. Ordering the larger portion also worked out nicely for sharing with the kids. Overall, we'd come back, although probably more readily for an adults-only dinner. The food, cocktails, atmosphere, and especially our waitress were all excellent, and the staff was genuinely kind to our children. The biggest drawback for a family meal was the lack of flexibility with the kids' menu. Some reasonably priced à la carte options or easier substitutions would make this a much better choice for families.

Long story short, I've now been to this location half a dozen or more times over the last several months. The service and food have been consistently good- no complaints. In all of those visits, only once have we experienced an issue, and it wasn't that huge. My friend ordered a certain sauce for his burrito but they were all out. It really wasn't that big of a deal for him, he just chose something else, but the issue prompted a table visit from the manager. Manager just wanted to apologize again for the inconvenience. I thought that was a pretty decent move. Was just there this past Wednesday, and let me tell you...of your bot ordering off their seasonal hatch green chile menu...you're missing out. I had the hatch grilled chicken...which was fantastic. The chicken was moist enough to cut with a fork alone. Do I think the fajitas are overpriced for what you get? Yes. But that's my only real gripe. Everything here seems consistent and orderly. We'll be back again in October for our monthly dinner.
