So my husband and I planned to go to DC to celebrate our anniversary but inclement weather moved us to stay local - and I'm so glad we did. We decided to go to Heritage 485 based on reviews as well as their late happy hour (4P-7P). We sat at a high table in the bar / lounge area. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by the host. Then the bartender was attentive and balanced working the bar and waiting on us. He provided recommendations. From the bar menu we got the chicken wings and deviled eggs. Both were tasty. For our entrees, my husband ordered the pork loin and I got the scallops. Both were delicious but the scallops were AMAZING! We had the french toast dessert which was a perfect balance of sweet and savory. The icecream is so creamy. Our drinks from the bar were great. It was a wonderful experience and the owner and chef even came out to meet us and wish us a happy anniversary. Our 2nd visit. I love this place, it's one of the best choices for a date night in the county. The food is delicious. And the wine on the menu was wonderful and paired perfectly with our meal! Drool! The location itself is historic and beautifully kept. Our server was fairly new but very attentive and a sweetheart. We will definitely return. This was my first time here. I loved the ambiance. We got the mussels and cream of crab soup to start. Both were terrific. I must also give two thumbs up for the corn bread. It was a nice addition to the bread basket. I had the ragu with lamb and pork and gnocchi. Very tasty. I especially liked how light the gnocchi was. My husband got the steak. It was a bit overcooked but still very good. We really enjoyed our meal. The chocolate chip cookies were fantastic. Although I cannot remember his name, our server was wonderful. This place was fantastic! It will definitely be on my list to return. I had the salmon, hubs had the steak, our fiends had the octopus and tuna apps, scallops and crab cake. Everyone loved their meal. The restaurant seemed short staffed but our waiter really hustled to make sure we had a good experience. My only complaint is that the wedge salad was not as spectacular as an another reviewers showed in a pic. I worked at this location when it was "old field inn" so I was curious because we NEED a good sit down restaurant in Calvert, not one place compares since they closed down. I was very disappointed, pricey and the food was absolutely horrible, service was bad but food was worse. Will not go back. The pickled watermelon should have been thrown in the trash days before and the hamburger was the pits. My husband was also very disappointed in his choice, they were not crowded at all, Sunday afternoon but still had slow service and never checked on us until we looked for waiter for bill. Wow, what a great addition to Calvert County. The signature cocktails on point, the complementary fresh bread and infused olive oil makes me want to infuse oil this summer, so good! The appetizer of fresh ricotta cheese was melt in your mouth. And of course the entree's were divine. Crab cake with no filler so glad I choose it and My husband had the sirloin and he was in heaven. And we didn't stop there, dessert put a smile on our face as well! And last but not least, service was fantastic! After reading the reviews, I had high expectations for a special meal. We were greeted with a smile at the door and seated promptly as per our reservation. We had lobster bisque, rock fish, scallops, and chocolate crème brulee. The lobster bisque was rich and creamy, but not especially flavorful. The scallops were tasty and well prepared, but they were served on a flavorless disc of grits with some mushrooms and onions, coupled with a few smears of butternut squash around the plate. The rockfish was delicious, served over a potato leek sauce with mushrooms. The chocolate crème brulee was burnt. We peeled-off the over-torched top layer (normally the best part), and found the chocolate custard below quite tasty, although we missed what should have been a slightly bitter crunchy covering. The service was good, and we enjoyed the ambience. This is NOT a $$ restaurant, it's a $$$ restaurant. Dinner for two (soup, entree, and dessert) cost $100 plus tip ($120). The dining experience was good, but at this price point, you expect better. We will give Heritage 485 another try this summer when the season will present more flavorful options, as we believe in Chef Benson's potential. read more

This is a truly unique dining experience and one we always enjoy. The staff is friendly, informed, and always responsive. The menu includes too many terrific options, though I have to admit I get the fried chicken most of the time because it's so darn good! Moist and yummy! Got the cod tonight with ratatouille veg and nearly cleaned the plate. Absolutely wonderful. My husband had the pot roast, son #1 the crab cake, and #2 the burger. Awesome! The creamed corn with fried green tomatoes is so good I may just get that next time! Made our reservations for next week. Wonderful option! read more

Even though they close for lunch at 2 pm, the restaurant was great about accommodating our late arrival. We had just done some wine tasting in the area and we're ready for some food! This was an excellent choice. The brunch menu offers a smoked salmon plate, which was excellent. The restaurant is in a converted house and beautifully decorated. Have been to Heritage 485 many times and for the most part enjoy it. The chef/owner takes great pride in his work and the staff are always great. I have tried almost everything on the menu over the past couple of years and everything is mostly good, not great to me. Some items are great but I would say about half miss their mark. For my taste, many items on the menu are overthought, a bit too complex and eclectic to make them delicious and memorable. Taste is subjective and we all have our own however, some things like the burger strike me as not being very good at all. Creative yes, tasty no. Many fish dishes and the mussels are a little too sophisticated as well. Sometimes simplicity well executed is better than cerebral cuisine. Chef, if you read this I would love to see a few more gently crafted creations on your menu. read more

My goodness what a delightful dinner! One of my biggest compliants, when coming from Montgomery County, was the lack of decent restaurants. Most of the restaurants are small, so no big groups. Most of the restaurants here are chain restaurants and their food pales to the same chain cooked in another county or state. Then my daughter introduces me to Heritage 485 and I though thank goodness. The service, atmosphere and food was amazing. If it was my husbands choice we would eat there every night. I give Heritage 4 Stars. The venue is great with a nice lounge. We've been to Heritage about 6 or 8 times for both brunch & dinner. The menu is solid w/seasonal changes for both food & drinks. The portions are generally good with a few exceptions. One being the oysters. They are prepared nicely with a citrus-gin Mignonette, but you only get 5 for $11 and they're not particularly large. The salads are tasty & inventive. All the entrees have been generally good with a single, but important criticism. They can be over seasoned -- too much salt. I had a lamb ragout that I had to pour some of my wine in just to finish it. On the other hand, I had a scallop dish that was knock your socks off delicious. The dessert menu needs some improvement and expansion. The service can be from excellent to mediocre depending upon who you get & how busy they are. The kitchen is generally quick, but a drink refill can take as much as 20-30 min. And I for one don't like my beer or wine refill showing up 15-20 min after I've finished my meal. Prices can be a little steep depending upon menu choice, but I don't mind paying for a quality meal w/exceptional service. I'm just not sure they are there yet. I think if they can improve the timeliness of service and watch the seasoning they might have something special. If not, they could fall into the abyss of the extremely average -- which Prince Frederick is already well known for. read more

Hidden away spot. We were coming from Solomon's and just wanted a good meal without a crowd. Googled good places to eat, and this was number 1 on Yelp. Beautiful home that was transformed into a little gem. Hostess, wanted to seat us in a corner of an empty room, we asked for a different table. She accommodated that. She also seems to pick & chose who can/can't wear a hat (hmmm). Please be consistent. Hadn't gotten to point of taking it off yet, but then don't turn around and seat someone else in the same room with a cap on and say nothing! She was called out on that one. Our server, on the other hand, was amazing. Jenna was very informative of the menu& offered suggestions. Drinks were good. His steak was really good & cooked to perfection. My crab cake was a bit dry to my liking (wouldn't order that again). Everything else was good. On our way out, manager (?) was very friendly and offered complimentary chocolate chip cookies. The decor is amazing, our server Isabella (Izzy) was extremely attentive and we never went without. On top of atmosphere and excellent service the food was some of the best food I've ever had in Calvert County. I got the gnocchi and it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My mom got the filet and it was so tender she could cut it with a butter knife. I cannot say enough great things! Thank you Heritage 485, we had a great time! read more

We sat at the bar and the staff was very informative and made some amazing recommendations and the drinks were quite delicious. You have to try the crab pot pie. It's a great cross between cream of crab soup and crab dip. There were large chunks of crab meat in it. We also had the pasta which was made from scratch and delicious. They also recommend the burger which had three different cuts of meat that was ground in house and was cooked to perfection. I hope to make this a weekly stop for dinner. read more

Wow what a great surprise this restaurant was! In town for business at Pax River and saw this on Yelp and gave it a try. First off, it's in a beautiful old restored home with lots and lots of character. Being alone, I simply ate at the bar, which is super cozy. I eat a lot of vegetarian dishes and on this visit I had the beet salad, which was one of the best I have ever had. I am not kidding when I say that. I also had the vegetarian entrée - can't remember what it was called but it was an Indian dish with cauliflower, carrots, sweet potatoes over basmati rice and it was unbelievable. Completely underwhelming. Ignore the hype! Brunch staff was taciturn and service was slow. Menu mentioned all items can be made gluten-free. Don't believe it, it's not true. When I asked if I could have a gluten-free crab-cake was simply told "No!". So I ordered the heritage breakfast (three eggs, sausage, hash browns, and toast) My food came out 5 minutes later than everyone else at my table despite it being one of the simplest to make. The bottom of the menu says buns can be substituted with gluten-free buns. However, I was brought plain bread and asked if that would be a problem. When I mentioned I had specifically asked for the gluten free substitution, was told "Well we're out of those." The potatoes were under-cooked and over-seasoned. The eggs weren't seasoned at all. The deviled eggs appetizer had too much Old Bay with nothing else to complement it. Will not go again and was sorely disappointed, having looked very forward to going there. read more
