This is long, so executive summary: I got lousy service but the newly-hired service manager, Jake Steele, made it right. It's because of him my rating is 4 stars instead of 1 and that I will do business with Herzog in the future. For the details - which, believe it or not, are abridged - read on. I took my 2014 Mazda 3 to Herzog in July 2016 on my biweekly Friday off for an oil change, and to check a problem I thought I had with the instrument cluster. Tire rotation was part of the service that included the oil change and I asked the service coordinator, Jim, to instruct the technician not to rotate them because it had just been done. When I picked up the car, I noticed that the service order didn't include the no-rotate instruction and asked Jim if the tech had rotated them or not. The tech was out to lunch, so Jim said he'd find out and call me back that afternoon. He also said he ordered a new cluster, and would call me the following week when the part came in to make an appointment. He didn't call that afternoon so I called him. Jim told me he hadn't had a chance to talk with the tech - who by now was gone for the weekend - but would on Monday and call me then. Crickets. I made a note to ask him again when he called me to make the appointment to install the new cluster. TWO WEEKS went by, and no call from Jim. So I called him and left a message. An hour later, someone else called me and said the cluster was in and we scheduled an appointment. I'm pretty sure that the part didn't take that long to come in but of course have no way to know. Even if it did, Jim should have called me to let me know it was taking longer than expected. I was pretty upset that Jim hadn't called me, so I asked to speak to the service manager, Jake Steele, to complain. Jake apologized and told me he would personally oversee the work on my car, which he did. He is new to Herzog and acknowledged that their service department had problems, which he is working to improve. I'll spare you the details, but the cluster installation turned out to be a...well...cluster. It didn't need to be replaced at all, but it took them two days to figure that out. Jake apologized again and promised to make it right, which he did. After I picked up my car, he apologized once more and told me that the next service would be on him. I took him up on his offer and used it to have the 40,000 mile service done on my wife's 2011 Mazda3. He checked with me later to make sure we were happy with the service we received, which we were. Because of Jake - and ONLY because of Jake - I will bring our cars to Herzog for service. He is EXCELLENT and I wish him the best of luck turning their service department around. Purchased 2015 CX-5 Touring with the help of A.J. He was superb, fantastic, exceptional. Very knowledgeable and easy to work with. Sales manager R.J. made us work to get the deal we wanted but we got there in the end. Finished the process with Dave to sign papers. Whole process from walking on the lot (10:25 AM) until driving off in our new car took 3 hours 40 minutes. Could streamline the whole process by doing the paperwork in the beginning on tablets instead. Then info could be forwarded on and printed if necessary. Longer test drive loop would also be nice to really get a feel for handling, acceleration, etc. Once the deal has been agreed upon being able to finish the process in 30 minutes would be nice. Took almost 90 minutes for us. Overall I would recommend A.J., R.J. and Dave. DIFFICULT to speak with anyone when calling Herzog Meier. First time I called I was on hold listening to the phone ring for 7 minutes, then call was dropped. Called back and was on hold for another 5 minutes just to leave a message in the end. read more

We have taken at least 3 months or more to research and buy our first SUV. I did most of the legwork to save my wife the majority of the dealership hassles. During that time, I made several trips to Herzog-Meier Mazda. Each time, I worked with Austin Reeves. He is soft spoken, always upbeat ven when under the weather), patient and knowledgeable about the product. He never pushed us to purchase a vehicle. He was more than accommodating with my test drives and just plain pleasant to work with. Ultimately, after we both had a final test drive of a 2017CX-5, we decided to go ahead and lease it. Absolutely the best experience I've had to date from a dealership. As a cautious, calculated buyer - I've done all my research before reaching Herzog-Meier and knew I wanted to look into the Mazda3 Hatchbacks. A month and a half ago I went in and met Shmuel Borenstien who walked me through all the different models/version of the M3 Hatch. Shmuel is truly a gem. He's educated on the models and specifics between them - there really wasn't a question he could not answer. He broke down all the different ways I could purchase the cars and the breakdown of what a lease/purchase would look like for two different models. I wasn't prepared that day to sign on the car and he understood and left me with that (probably thinking I would not come back or shop someplace else). He was surprised when I called him back last week, with my budget, and asked to see if he could work with that. We met in person today and after some back and forth - we got the car I wanted, within my monthly budget. He was patient with me the entire time and was never pushy. Instead of feeling anxious and unsure about my decision, I felt calm and confident. Also, as an aside, I've used Geico in the past to insure my vehicles. I called to see what it would cost with this vehicle and they gave me a quote that was way over my budget. Shmuel called over an All State agent (who works across the way) to see what they could offer. The agent, Mejrema Berisa, walked over with her laptop and plugged in my information. She was able to offer me a better policy, INCLUDING renters insurance for about 40% less of what Geico was offering me (I have a clean record - so was surprised at Geico's estimate). The monthly car payment (went with a lease) and insurance, both fit well within my budget and I'm happy that they both could work with me on that. After a decade of driving my trusty Honda and not having a monthly car payment (what a luxury, right!?), I realized that it was time for me to start looking for a new vehicle. I honestly was not looking forward to visiting a dealership for my previous experiences were less than stellar. One day I decided to swing by this dealership and had the privilege of meeting Shmuel Borenstien. I was immediately at ease with him. Not only was he articulate but he was fun to talk to and was unlike any of the high pressure salespeople I had met in previous years. The face of the car buying/leasing business is being dramatically changed by people like Shumuel. He makes it easy for people to come and visit without having to make the commitment to buy or lease on the spot. I arrived knowing exactly what I wanted. We went for a test drive and I was given a sales proposal at which point I said I wasn't ready to buy. I told him I wanted to do some more research - he was totally cool with it. I highly recommend you ask for him and only him. I cannot speak for the other salespeople there. All I know is that you'll be instantly put at ease if you deal with him. He has integrity, a sense of ease and intelligence. He'll answer all of your oddball questions without any judgement. He'll also work his hardest at finding what you want, not what you don't want. This review is for the Service/Repair team. I haven't dealt with the retail/dealer side. The staff is super friendly, really helpful, consoling (my car had been in an accident and the melodrama around it was awful for me!!), and diligent about helping me get to the root of the car issues that were still plaguing me 8 months after the accident. Mind you, the initial repairs were done by another shop. They also helped me deal with some insurance adjuster issues. I'm sorry I didn't work with the Herzog-Meir Mazda team and their preferred partners from the get-go. I would have been done with this nightmare months ago. All in all, great experience. UPDATED:In my earlier review I complained that Herzog-Meier Mazda did not honor a written quote Jess Tichenor (one of their internet specialists) provided over email. As my earlier review noted, part of the reason my wife and I found this so distressing is that we drove four hours to the dealership because the deal was so good. After writing to the managers listed on the dealer website, I was contacted by Yeon Kim, one of their managers, who honored close enough to the original deal to satisfy my wife and myself. Furthermore, he had the car delivered to me in Washington. Though the problem could have been avoided had the salesman and floor manager honored the written quote when we arrived, we are VERY SATISFIED with how the dealership stepped up and did the right thing in the end. ORIGINAL REVIEW:Dealership refused to honor a written quote they emailed us. Don't believe Jess Tichenor, one of the internet people. When Pat Covert, our salesman, saw the price (a price we confirmed with Jess over email twice and over the phone), he said it was a mistake and there was no way they could meet it, regardless of whatever incentives they stacked. I purchased a 2021 Mazda CX5 on June 1. The negotiation and sales process was easy and efficient. The saleperson (Carmen L) was great. It is the follow-up to my sale that was horrible and left me highly disappointed with the whole experience. Let's start by saying no one at this dealership returns your phone call, resulting in me having to call multiple times for the same issue. First they issued me a trip permit that expired the day it was written. I was told they would overnight me a replacement. It was sent regular mail, took over two weeks to get to me and by the time I received it I had licensed the car. I asked for and was given a refund as I was never legal. Next, I asked several times to be reimbursed for overcharged sales tax. It took me 6 weeks to get the check! I was told twice it was in the mail, when it was never mailed. I searched for a new Mazda 3 through Costco and Consumer Reports pricing and these guys quickly and easily matched all pricing and kept fair negotiations simple with no stressful pressure at all. Our sales team included Jesse (our first direct salesperson), Patrick (Internet sales) and Mike the showroom manager. All these guys we're a true pleasure to work with. Jesse is young but knows his Mazdas very well, very personable, funny, and easy going. I'd say the same for the other guys too, friendly and a pleasure to work with. Herzog-Meier has all the needs covered with great selection of inventory, friendly and intelligent staff, easy options for financing and reasonable negotiated pricing. See a review for service at 5000 miles. Highly recommended. One note on financing. You will be offered extended warranty and possibly other items. I believe this to be typical for any dealership. I do not recommend adding these to your financing as, at no fault of Herzog-Meier, the extended warranties have terrible reviews. The finance person we worked with was great. Fast, smart and considerate of our needs to keep it simple. He did his job of trying to pitch us the adders but was not overtly pushy by any means. read more

Financed a new 2017 touring CX-5 a little more than a month ago. I was really in need for a new car after mine had broken down twice in a month. Justin Jeffers was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and REAL. I didn't know if I'd be able to finance the car at that moment but he made it possible for me to drive off with my new car which I was extremely grateful for since I was in desperate need of something safe for work. My wife and I worked with a sales representative names Austin Reeves. We went to the dealership simply to consider an alternative to the Honda Civic we were interested in buying. Austin was polite, friendly, and to the point. He didn't try to up-sell us, he didn't try to push things on us unnecessarily, and he didn't try to come off the overly friendly, fake, slimy car salesman. He was by far the easiest salesperson I've ever worked with. By the end of a test drive my wife decided the Mazda was a better fit for us and we talked numbers. Austin worked with us to get us where we wanted to be in terms of monthly financing. At no point did it feel like he was trying to take advantage of us. It felt like he was trying to help. After a few snags on our end we went back to the Beaverton Honda dealership to compare numbers. The salesperson was the typical sales guy and made me want to rip my hair out after he tried to push a Honda Accord on us for the thirtieth time. Needless to say, we decided to rectify the snags on our end and went back to the Mazda dealership the next day. Austin worked remotely to help us fix our problem. He was easy to contact and on top of his game. By the end of the day we drove home in our brand new Mazda. I'd highly recommend him to friends. I'll make this quick. Simple. And painless as I can only speak of parts and service. We love our Mazda CX9. In fact it's our second. And we had a Mazda 3 before that. These folks are fair with prices. Service has always been on time (even when the wife drops in without an appointment). I have never been given a reason to doubt the work performed on our car. I would recommend them. Parts. I have only used the department one or two times. But they are also quick, knowledgeable, and also fair with pricing for factory components. I've not been let down yet. Made an appointment here July 4th in the morning and Jon Howell had two models pulled aside for me upon arrival with my name on the dashboard. How cool is that?! It felt like VIP service from the very beginning. Jon was not pressuring at all and made me feel very much at ease through the whole process. They quickly appraised my current vehicle for a possible trade in and gave me a great offer, which came in over 600 more then the offer I received at NW Jeep. I had a monthly amount that I wanted to be at for my payments and they came through for me. Jon was there for me throughout the negotiations and to the moment the finance docs were signed (Mehra in Finance is pretty wonderful too), to walking me through all the interior functions on the vehicle, to the final moment of driving off the lot. The Sales Manager Patrick was great too! What a great team of people! I don't think I've ever had such a smooth process in getting into a new vehicle. Went shopping for a new car in last month and turned up to Beaverton Mazda. My first trip was to gather some general information and I found the sales agent to be great - knowledgeable and respectful. (The reason this review is 2 stars not 1). Thanks Austin. I later returned to test drive a vehicle (with my wife) and the initial sales agent wasn't there. Another sales agent took over. Over the course of interaction and test drive, this sales agent made derogatory sexist comments (with both my wife and I present) including references to 'you won't break a nail' to my wife as well as 'you like your cars like you like your women - pretty... - am I right?' He was also full of sales cliches - 'where do I park this car? I'd prefer you park it in your driveway' He also proceeded to 'demonstrate' the 'features' of the car technology by stumbling through the radio menu and just reading what it said on the screen. I had been looking at the Mazda CX-5 for awhile and finally decided on leasing a 2016 GT AWD w/Tech package. Great choice for me. Originally, I contacted the dealership online and worked with Stephanie Tichenor. She was great to work with and extremely helpful. She was able to answer all of my questions and never harassed me. I never got to meet her in person, but I'm sure she's adorable. When I first came in I was helped by Ed Kruszewski who took me on a quick test drive and showed me the ins and outs of the vehicle. Wrote a review recently and do hope for a resolution. Purchased a used car outright and my credit was ran despite a promise by the salesman that it was not a hard inquiry. Low and behold, it was a hard inquiry. Five points deducted from my Equifax score from a hard credit inquiry which was promised to me that wasn't going to happen. Even going so far as to promise on the basis that this lot has been in business for XX number of years and they only do what they say they're going to do. Which is apparently whatever they want to do. There is a balance owed to them of $150 to cover the cost of registration, which was mixed during the window or time needed for the dealership to do a title transfer. I hope we may uncover what this is all about in finding resolution. read more

He showed me the full range of CX 5 models and was very knowledgeable in all aspects of the vehicle and was able to answer all my questions. Totally relaxed and let me lead the process. Ed even came to my home to pick up a check so i didn't have to drive back to Beaverton. When it came to price and financing, it was quick and painless and I was even surprised to qualify for 0% apr. We were contacted with an invitation to consider trading up as we had already scheduled to come in for a service appointment. I responded that we had been talking about trading to a newer and next level model and agreed to meet with the Internet Sales Manager, Dylan Mendenhall. There were incentives in place that helped to make the deal possible. We traded our 2017 Mazda 3 Hatchback for a 2019 Mazda CX5 - both in Soul Red Metallic paint! Service has been very courteous so far. However many hours of work were lost. After the first oil change the oil tank was a quart too low. The oil level was right BELOW the minimum level. If I hadn't checked it four days after the change, engine damage might have been possible on my new car. On my insistence they redid the oil change. This time it was 3/4 quart too high. While this is not dangerous- it is not acceptable. Advice: Check your oil level at this dealership and be careful. read more
