Brought my 2009 Mazda 3 in for 60k Service. Basically paid $284 for an oil change and engine air filter. The service techs did not drive the car, did not notice a bent wheel or bad wheel bearings despite marking them as 'Green Check' on my service print-out. After having the work done at another shop, I returned to Herzog-Meier with the vehicle reports. I confronted the Asst. Service Manager about the issues and they reluctantly offered free additional service and would not refund my payment (minus oil change, air filter, and reasonable labor fee). They couldn't get it done right the first time, what makes me think they can do it a second time around. The dealer is expected to know the car from top to bottom, front to back, and thoroughly inspect better than anyone else. I will not go back nor recommend anyone take their Mazda for service at this dealership. Don't waste your time at Herzog-Meier in Beaverton. If you want repairs go to a local shop who respects the car and the customer. read more

Worst car buying experience I've ever had.... I am looking for a new car and had gone to Subaru, Acura and VW, but was pretty sure at the end of the day I would go with a Mazda. I went to Herzog-Meier and test drove the CX-5 and it went great, loved it. But then when the Sales Manager came out to talk to me he was extremely rude and was trying to bully me into buying a car on the spot. We spoke for only about 5 minutes and he refused to even continue the conversation unless I committed to buying a car right then and there because he "doesn't run numbers for practice". It was incredibly off putting and when I told him I needed to talk it over with my girlfriend and I wasn't willing to make a decision right there he stormed off and didn't even shake my hand. Mind you, THIS WAS A 5 MINUTE CONVERSATION. It's not like I had been wasting his time all afternoon. I will never go back there and will advise anyone else against going there as well. read more

Salesman comes out immediately saying that they were understaffed and if I wanted to test drive a car it would only be two certain models and it would have to be a very quick test drive. I purchased a certified pre-owned vehicle from this dealer. During the test drive, the vehicle had a significant squeak sound coming from the rear. The salesman said they would find and fix the squeak if I purchased the vehicle (they later said the insulation around the spare tire was loose, and that they fixed that). I was sold on the vehicle having a comprehensive 160-point inspection. Within one week of owning and driving the vehicle, the squeak sound from the rear still existed, and the brakes had a significant squeaking sound as well. I contacted the salesman 5 days after purchasing the vehicle, and he informed me to setup a service appointment with the dealership. I had to make a service appointment for over a month out because the service department didn't have any loaner vehicles, and because of my own travel schedule. The service department then told me the rear squeaking sound was because the spoiler is loose, as a bolt had come out, and it was loose in the lift gate. I then received a $1,248.42 estimate to fix the spoiler and squeaky brakes. I then asked why these items were not found and disclosed during the initial CPO sales inspection. They said there were not totally certain, but that most likely they just weren't noticed during the inspection. I wish they had been more transparent, and provided me with these items DURING the sales negotiation process. My father was a General Manager of a Toyota Dealership in Washington State, and I know first-hand that this is not the experience someone should receive. I would not recommend this dealership for that reason. ---- Updated 9/17/19 in Response to the Owner: 1) The squeak was not fixed, as the sound still exists (which is from the loose spoiler). 2) The "new squeak / rattle" was the same as the prior sound. The dealership never paid to make any repairs (which is noted in service documentation) 3) The $1248 estimate was for the brakes/rotors (to fix the squeaky brakes), and to fix the loose spoiler. Both items were never brought forward during the sales process or sales inspection. ----- Updated 9/19/19: -We just received our first hard rain of the season, and the rear lift gate leaks. There is standing water on the cargo mat in the mornings, and water flows in while driving. I am having to schedule another service appointment. read more

I had an awful experience here, being a woman going in to buy a car without a "man" present is the attitude I got from Jay and Shawn (the sales manager). They didn't take the time to even talk to me like a person. No negotiations until I was so upset and in tears that they didn't try to work with me and made me feel like I wasn't worth their time. I told them car buying is supposed to be a happy and good experience, not tearful and frustrating. I decided enough is enoigh, I drive an hour from my home to be treated like dirt for 2 + hours for a car that I was so thrilled about on my way there, but now it makes me infuriated that I sat there and let them treat me like that. I got a much better approval from a credit union after you left and tried calling you twice with no answer. Are still interested in the certified CX5? Let me know either way please. Next message... Confused..?? I was able to get your payment where you wanted it with just 2k down at a much lower rate but now no response..did you just not like the CX5 or was it something else? Just trying to help. Really? Yeah that makes you wanna turn the car right around and close the deal! Not! Have you tried not sounded like a complete ass? I had a problem - but eventually they pulled though and fixed it. My wife and I still love the car. I have nothing but good things to say about the initial sales guy. As for the guy who closed the deal... I dont have anything good to say about him. There was some miscommunication about whether the maintenance plan could be cancelled. It took several months to get it sorted out. But Herzog-Meier handled it. I'm glad it's behind us. I'd double check anything the sales guy is promising you. I recently purchased a new Mazda3 from Herzog-Meier Mazda in Beaverton. This was my first time buying a new car so I was a little nervous about the process. My experience started online when I inquired about an internet price for another mazda. I received a response from Chelsea within hours. I didn't reply right away because I was comparing prices in the area. After a few days Chelsea checked in with me one more time about my thoughts on the email she sent me, not pressuring me one bit. After a few exchanges I decided to make an appointment to look at some cars. I had an appointment that same day with Justin. When I arrived Justin was finishing up another sale, but Ed took me around the lot while we waited for Justin. Ed was wonderful, answered all of my questions and made great suggestions for me to consider. Eventually I did decide to purchase and while it was a bit of a long process I had great conversation with Ed. He even took me to the bank to get a cashiers check for my down payment. David in the finance department was amazing! He was so kind and found me a great deal on financing. He even took the time to explain what all of the different warranties covered, what I needed/did not need when it came to my auto insurance, as well as information he would have liked to know after purchasing his mazda such as what it sounds like when it starts up. My car was in transit at the time I purchased it so that evening Ed left to go pick up my car. The next day he offered to pick me up at my home since I didn't not have a ride to the dealership. The worst customer service. I keep getting a recall notice from Mazda for my car telling me my airbag will explode and have metal shards flying out of it. While I assume the recall notice is probably more dramatic than reality, I can't help but to think about it every time I drive my car to work. I called a month ago on May 10 and tried to set up an appointment, but was told that they have to order parts and they will call me when they come in. No time estimate was given to me, even after I asked for it, for how long that could possibly take. Today, a month later (June 7) I called to ask for the status of those ordered parts after receiving yet another fear-inducing recall notice from Mazda. I was told "Oh yeah, those parts came in two days ago" lol oh, word. Then I asked when I could get my car in. I mentioned the recall notice says it should only take about half an hour. I wasn't being snippy or rude, but I was met with "MA'AM. Ma'am. I know what the recall notice says." Which always feels great as a customer, right? I decide to just take a deep breath and not ask for a supervisor or something, just assuming the person I talked to (I'm going to be decent enough not to list her name) was having a long morning or something. I get it. Then, the only time they had available for me was in ONE MORE MONTH. So I called for a mandatory recall from the company, had to wait one full month for the parts to come in, didn't even get a call back from the dealership but had to call and check on it myself, then was asked to wait another full month for the repair, and was also told they would need my car for the full day. Waiting two months for a repair from something that Mazda says could be fatal, and yes they literally use the word "fatal" on the recall notice, is not the most comforting feeling in the world driving to work every day. When I tried to mention this to the employee I was speaking to I was again met with short snippy comments. She was talking to me as if I was coming down on her, and I was literally saying things like "I know there's nothing you can do about the times you have available, but I'm just trying to make sure my vehicle is actually safe to drive." Lol. I ended up calling Royal Moore Mazda and they can get me in next week, and say it will take an hour and a half. Plus I talked to the nicest and funniest guy ever. Don't waste your time like I did and just go to Royal Moore instead. read more

I do not typically write reviews, but felt compelled to do so considering the experience we had with Herzog-Meier Mazda. First, to summarize, the sales representative we spoke to was nice, and the inter personal aspect of our experience was neutral to good. I wish I could say that about the rest of the experience, but I cannot. In fact, this has been the single worse car purchasing experience of my life. We went to Herzog-Meier Mazda since they are a large business and we had thought that we could trust them and the quality of their vehicles. Our experience has taught us one of two things, either; They do not inspect or ensure the quality of their used cars -- or -- they intentionally sold us a vehicle that was riddled with mechanical problems and safety issues. Either way, this has been a horrible ordeal for us emotionally and financially. We came to them with a very urgent need to purchase a vehicle for my new daily commute, and we needed a safe fuel efficient vehicle for that purchase. We took the car home that evening, only to get a call three days later saying that the financing was denied. At this time my wife and I both had 700+ credit scores, which isn't fabulous but isn't terrible either. We purchased the car in full as a result. Over the next few weeks we had discovered that they had included additional items to our purchase which we explicitly stated we did not want. One item in particular we had been told was required to have, "by law", which we later found to be false. It was removed, but the fact that this was presented to us as a requirement at all was incredibly dishonest. We also found out that at the time our or original request, they had sent our credit information to 15 banks... at the same time. Half of them were denied for excessive credit checks within the same month/day, and each of our credit scored were negatively impacted by over 100 points. They apologized, but could not reverse the damage that was done. During this same time, within a few days of finishing the purchase of the vehicle, the line to the master/slave cylinder ruptured. We did not know it was the line that had failed initially, so the dealership allowed us to tow the vehicle to a local mechanic and they fixed it. This was technically not a requirement by the dealership, so I appreciate that they had taken care of what we originally thought was going to be a failed clutch. Within a week of this, the car was again undrivable. Both of the front wheel bearing were damaged beyond repair, the hubs and wheel bearings have been fused together with rust and cannot be separated from one another, and will require $1,000+ in repairs just to get the car running safety again. In hindsight, I should have asked to take it to a mechanic before purchasing it, but I specifically came to Herzog-Meier Mazda as I had faith that they would have at least inspected the vehicle and made repairs before selling or disclosed the information to us before purchase. We are now in a very dire financial struggle trying to get this vehicle running again. I would not suggest anyone to got to Herzog-Meier Mazda, as much as I wanted it to be a good experience. I would go as far as to openly discourage doing business with them based off of everything we have been through. read more

The whole staff was very helpful and sweet the whole time. I highly recommend going in and asking for Justin. I had gone in after having the worst experience/treatment in my life at Royal Moore and Justin turned the whole day around. I ended up paying more and getting a higher-end model at Herzog Meier than I could have shopping around at other dealerships because of how well I was treated. He was down to earth, straight up with anything we asked and was more than informative with the details and gadgets of the new Mazda3 hatch. Worst experience ever. I'm still dealing with then after 2 months of owning my car. I would never buy a car from them ever again. The cars salesman was great and didn't try to hard. However the people dealing with finances royally screwed me. I now have to pay a $800 fee. Not only that I was at the dealership for 5 hours waiting for the paperwork, then had to go back another 5 times to deal with "forgotten" paperwork. read more

First off, I'll say that the sales staff were great. We closed the deal in record time, and at what I felt was a good price for the CX-5. I ordered a factory part for the car through Amazon (rear bumper guard), then tried three times to get hold of the Herzog service department, without any luck. On one occasion, the receptionist's phone was never answered and went to voice mail. I ended up going to Tonkin to have the part installed. Then I got a letter saying my plates were ready and that I could pick them up at the dealer. I've never had a dealer neglect to ask me if I wanted the plates sent directly to my home, but hey, whatever. Not wanting to schlep out to Beaverton in the traffic, I called and asked to have the plates mailed to me. Sure thing. Two weeks later, still no plates. I could have walked there by now. I called today and was told, "Oh, so sorry, they're still in our filing system. Guess I forgot to send them out, teehee." WTF? The sales department gets an 'A', the service gets an 'F'. read more

I had a good experience buying my CX-5 at Herzog Meier. As others state in their reviews, Jesse is a very knowledgeable, helpful, easy going and pleasant salesperson and he knows his Mazdas and owns atleast one himself. I never felt pressured and I felt I got a decent price. When escorted into the Finance & Insurance office (Dave) I was treated well, I told him straight off I was not an extended warranty type of person. He tried discounting the warranty and pitching it a couple different ways. When I declined a final time he printed up the loan docs, they matched the sales price, the monthly amount was a few bucks lower than what Jesse originally quoted and I was on my way. I'm giving them 4 star because their service department doesn't have very extended hours and their shuttle only goes 5 miles out, very limiting, I'm 7 miles away. They are open on Saturday but told me that they couldn't do extensive diagnostic work on Saturday, that Saturday was for general repairs like oil changes etc. This makes it very difficult for me to get in without taking time off of work and trying to figure out how I will get to and from their shop. read more

After several months of reviewing cars and visiting several dealerships, we found our car: the Mazda CX-9. We needed a mid-sized SUV, and the third row was important to us. We first went shopping at Herzog-Meier, as that was a familiar name, and one I had heard few complaints about; plus, from their website and talking to one of their internet people, they had some of the most competitive pricing in the area. But, as I found out, that doesn't always mean you're getting the best deal. It took 3 days to hear back from H-M as to whether or not I could qualify for the vehicle we wanted (I suppose that maybe they didn't want to sell me a car?). And I only heard back because I continued to follow up with them. After they were unable to help us, we decided we still wanted a CX-9, so we started to look around at the other local Mazda dealerships. We went to Mazda of Gladstone. We received a better price on the vehicle, better value on our trade-in, and the payment we were looking for. I find it odd that H-M took 3 days to give me an answer, while we were almost done at Mazda of Gladstone in 3 hours. I thought Justin, the salesperson I worked with, was a nice kid, engaging, and knew the product (at least the car I test drove with him and was looking to purchase). His dad (or uncle?) was nice as well. I've just never had to wait 3 days to find out whether or not I could buy a car, and usually someone communicates back to me the answers (especially in this day in age with the level of technology we have). So, all-in-all, I had a good experience with the salesperson, Justin. But beyond that initial part of the process, it was not a positive in experience. I recently purchased a Mazda3 from this dealership. When I arrived at the dealership they did not have the exact car I wanted and they did everything they could to get it from another dealership. I arrived at a later date and picked up the car. I worked with a new sales person named Mickey. He is young, new and very eager to help. Mickey is a little rough in a few areas, but he did everything he possibly could make sure that I was happy through the process. If he did not know an answer he would find it for me. I was a little disappointed that Mickey did not get full credit for the sale. Because Mickey is new and needed some help navigating the paperwork side of the deal, he was not given full credit. The only thing Dylan really did was walk back and forth to the back office and see about getting the rate I wanted. Mickey was the one that showed me the car, explained the features, and did the final inspection with me. It would have been nice for Mickey to get the credit he deserves. Had Mickey been given credit for the sale, I would have given the dealership a much higher score. read more

I haven't bought a new car in years and was not looking forward to walking into a den of slimy car salesman at a car dealership...with that said Herzog-Meier Mazda made the experience seamless, painless, even enjoyable, and I would recommend this dealership to ANYONE that was looking for a new Mazda. I went in on a Friday evening after work and met with Coty, who was very knowledgeable, kind, and persistent but not pushy. I left that evening to think things over before making a final decision and I didn't feel any pressure whatsoever. Coty's manager R.J. was also very helpful and when it came to settling on a final number I was happy with what I saw and in the end drove away that weekend with a 2015 CX-5. Even the finance part at the end was seamless....no pushiness about adding anything on top of the price in the end. Ty was very informative but I never felt like I was being forced into adding anything I didn't want. This is about how Herzog is managed because I love my Mazda and the workers are friendly and try hard. They don't have enough mechanics to actually use the bays and provide service. A simple oil change must be scheduled a month in advance and wait time during the change is way over an hour (with no nearby resraurants or coffee shops). Also, during the purchase, we had a personable salesperson but the information from the managers (in their handwriting) was wrong more than once. The person selling the warranty/coverage was about as offensive as was possible - using strategies from aren't we both Christian to using offensive over-the-top humor. If we hadn't known what we wanted before entering his office, we would have walked. Anyway, Salem Mazda can do my oil change not only this month but as a walk-in or even as a scheduled time within a few days. Now that is good management. read more

My cars check engine light came on and the car started making a knocking sound so I figured I'd call and make a appointment to take it in. I called 3 times and nobody ever answered the phone. It would ring 5-6 times and go to a answering machine and would ask to leave a message and they would call right back. I left detailed information and after about 24 hours I gave up and called another local repair shop to have my car repaired. It is now day 3 and still have not received a call back. I figured if they couldn't even call a customer back to make a appointment, I could just imagine how long it would take to actually repair my vehicle. Frustration with a car dealership, Parked my brand new Mazda CX-5 in our driveway last week. Open up the drivers door and everything powered back on. now I'm standing in the driveway and tried to power it back off by pushing the button on the dash. Did this three times and on the third time the vehicle started to roll backwards. Had to jump in and curly up on the floorboard, drivers door wide open and gaining momentum. Look at the shifter which now is making a lot of noise and shaking really bad which I need to remind you is still in park. I decided to jump out just before the vehicle crashed into a tree and took out a PGE utility box. Neighbor who I have never meet before jumped the fence and ask him if I was o.k. He held my hand and ask the other neighbors to call 911. When all emergency vehicles showed up the police officer ask if someone was in the vehicle and the neighbors said , "No". The police officer then mention the vehicle is still in park. Now my good Old dad gets involved. He has the vehicle towed to the body shop that we feel does a great job for us. Insurance company ask us to have the dealership look at the vehicle first to determine if it is a product liability issue. This is where it becomes interesting. My dads goes to the bodyshop first. They mention the vehicle is at the dealership to be looked at and they have found some issues with the vehicle. Dad walks over and talks to the service manager. Service manager tells my dad, under the table and will never admit to this conversation he was able to duplicate all the concerns with the car. Him and his foreman cannot find anything wrong with any sensors and there were no codes so it will not be documented on the vehicle. My dad was distanished on what he just told him. He then told the service manager you understand what I do, I'm a service director of a dealership. Service manager tells my father, she must have left the vehicle in reverse. My father explains to the service manager, if my daughter was standing outside of the vehicle, which was not running for a few minutes trying to turn everything off several times and did not roll back right away, it was not in reverse. My dad had to walk away. Insurance company said they will pay bill and it's not worth spending the money to fight the manufacture. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. This was my second experience with them. We did buy a top of the line Mazda from here a few months ago and were ready for another so i decided, against my wife kicking and screaming about returning here, to give them a 2nd chance after the 1st bad visit. Wish i wouldn't have!!!!!! Rude, condescending, lied and more. At one point i was the only customer in their lobby and heard other sales guys talking about how they worked this customer and that customer. I felt dirty just hearing these egomaniacs yammer on. I've been in sales(not cars) for 9 years and can tell you right now I'd fire anyone who acted like this from my company. Well we left after being treated like dirt from one of the "higher up" guys and bought that same night at Gladstone Mazda. Much better experience there! We have a friend who is going to be buying a CX-9 from Gladstone this coming weekend because they loved our CX-9! Also have my wife's sister who will be buying the mazda 3 sedan. They are going to buy from Gladstone because of our good experience with Gladstone Mazda and several negative experiences with Herzog. Do yourself a favor and avoid Herzog-Meier like it's the plague and go to Gladstone and ask for Kat or Zach. read more

These guys have the right attitude but are not setup to deliver. The mazda dealership has 3 people who will work with you - 1. Sales man - Very nice, talks well but not empowered to do anything 2. Manager - Will talk to you about the deal, all the negotiating 3. Final approval - All powerful arrogant ass who does not have basic courtesy and civility to talk in a respectful manner. We had a fantastic experience initially and loved them. We are almost set to buy the car from them. We did a final comparison and found that the same CX-5 was available for 800$ cheaper at another dealership. Our last conversation before buying the car was as ugly as can be imaginable. The haughty guy from (3) came to the table and no introductions etc and started negotiating the trade. His goal was intimidation. He first trashed the car that they themselves appraised. Then he tried to be too smart and started insulting my wife. The car buying experience must be a happy one and i need to drive back home with a fun memory. I hate the fact that these guys try these under-handed methods and squeeze you just before you write the check for 800$ over a 30k car. Frankly, I would have paid them the extra money if they had just said something like " we are unable to match this deal but we will give you fantastic customer service and we are a premium dealership". If you can't match a price then dont trash-talk, intimidate and make things ugly and insult the customer. I will never ever go to them again as they have completely spoiled our car-buying experience. They have lots of good people but all the high level managers deserve a big kick on their butt and an ego-check to their arrogance. We had a very mixed experience buying a Mazda CX5 recently. The sales reps, Jesse and Justin, were terrific - helpful, transparent, knowledgeable. We reached a fair deal quickly and easily on buying the car and on all related terms - downpayment, trade, financing. Then we were taken to sign papers across the street where we were ushered into this locked room with a guy who put papers in front of us showing a payment of $50/month higher than agreed upon. Only upon repeated questioning did he disclose that he had added on the cost of an extended warranty insurance product without it ever having been discussed with us. It just got worse and weirder from there. When we said no thanks, he started quickly manipulating numbers to get the cost down, which again after no explanations and multiple questions turned out to be lengthening our loan period, cutting the length of the warranty or at one point telling us he'd cut the cost of the policy by $900 because we needed to help him "make his quota" that month. Every 10 seconds there was a new number, quickly thrown in front of us with no explanation. Then he said we could cancel in 60 days ("no obligation"), but on questioning we were finally told you don't get any of your premium returned ($2400 total) until the end of the loan period. At one point he told us the car could not be expected to perform after 60,000 miles and we'd "be looking at multiple $2000-3000 repair bills" and putting our safety in jeopardy by not having the warranty. I'm sure Mazda HQ would love knowing their dealers are telling buyers that. Then after finally getting him to stop, we started to sign the papers only to find a hidden $229 cost for a "theft registration" fee that he called "a service" that Herzog Meier "provides all its buyers", though despite many questions he couldn't explain what it actually was. He made us wait awhile for some other higher level guy to come and use the combination lock to enter the office to approve the waiver of the fee, both of them acting like they were doing us a big favor. The entire time you are in this locked office staring at a big screen TV showing ads for All State insurance. (did anyone here see the Lego Movie? - it was straight of there, President Business on the TV telling us what to do, "Bad Cop" shaking us down). I could go on with more details but it was as old school as it gets. It felt like 3 card monty. It's a great car, the people we dealt with on the lot were outstanding, the pricing transparent and fair. But the experience was ruined for us by the serious hustle that transpired from Herzog Meier trying to sell us a bunch of insurance products. read more
