I definitely echo the other review that 1 of these sandwiches are enough for multiple people! The fried chicken probably contains at least 2 thighs and is well seasoned, battered, and fried. This is the second best hot chicken sandwich in the Bay Area, after Oakland's unimpeachable World Famous Hot Boys. But this is no small thing to say and Hetchy's Hots should be pretty damn proud of their sandwich too. First, it is enormous. There's like basically half a chicken in between those buns. And despite the amount/thickness of the mean, it really isn't dry at all. That's frankly wild. Where they lose to WFH though, is in the seasoning and heat. It's not really very hot and there's just a bit less going on. But it's still well ahead of the rest of the pack. We were in SF for a giants game and wanted a hot chicken sandwich. We found Hetchys on Yelp and it was just a few blocks from the hotel, so we decided to try it. The sandwiches were huge and pretty tasty, the chicken was moist. Our only complaint was there was no sauce on the sandwiches or given to put on, maybe if we'd asked but we didn't know. Ordered the Szetchy Hot Sandwich and Szetchy fries from UberEats. Both were huge portions and I was glad I only ordered one sandwich and one set of fries to share with my partner. The food was packed well and secure. We dug into these within 5-10 minutes of them being ready for pickup, and the fries were slightly soggy while the bottom bun was very soggy (with tons of flavor), but that's expected for takeout. Flavor of both were delicious but I think there could have been more. Some of the chicken was a bit dry but the super crispy batter compensated it. We didn't end up finishing the fries, and heated them in the air fryer for dinner. Should have done that for lunch too because they tasted much better! We got the hetchy hot and the sichuan one. the hetchy hot lacked acidity, usually the pickles in a chicken sandwich help with that but these jalapenos and pickled onions were doused in a super heavy creamy sauce, which made the whole thing taste really fatty. The chicken was crispy... but dry inside. Those things are passable, but what was not okay was the fact that the hot cheetos were stale. They tasted like they had been left out for a day. They were chewy. And the sichuan one tasted like they replaced all the seasonings with sugar. I dont even know what they were going for with that one. Where's the peppercorn malaa? The flavors were overall meh (the hetchy hot kinda tasted like a pizza), but the sandwich stayed together and was easy to eat and price wasn't too bad. Rancher Fries - Hellllllla salty. Almost saltier than me writing this review. I couldn't even finish it cuz it was so salty. I had my husband try some too just to see if I was trippin' but na, I wasnt-- he confirmed that it was in fact way too salty to enjoy. Wow this was one of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever have. It's crispy, full of flavor and huuuge!! I did the Hetch your own and it was better than I could have hoped for. I have to say, I've had many chicken sammies in my life and this one is really up there regarding the quality and flavor. What makes this sandwich stand out from others is the crunch! The crust on this chicken is so crispy!!! I would have to say that is my favorite part of this sandwich: the delicious crispiness that is the crust on the chicken. Some serious ASMR heaven. This place does not skimp on the chicken, when you get your sandwich you can see big pieces of chicken sticking out on both sides of the sandwich which makes it easier for you to enjoy the chicken by itself before you dive into the sandwich. I ordered the Rancher Dancher and my partner got the Hetch Calabria. I will say that my sandwich was perfect, the chicken was juicy and not dry at all. Had the Hetcharacha, and damn, so good. So much delicious crispy chicken that's not greasy and stayed crispy in the takeout container for over 30 minutes, great bun (potato?), and that taco spice gives it such a unique flavor. The new brainchild of the geniuses bringing you Square Pie guys, served out of the same restaurant. But I think the greatest compliment I can give is my mostly vegetarian girlfriend, for whom I procured a delicious veggie pie from SPG, kept asking me for more bites of my chicken sandwich once she tried it. And in the end, I had to give her the last 1/3 of my sandwich. I guess that's what love costs? Ordered burgers and French fries. The burgers are not bad but it's a bit dry to me. The bigger issue is on fries which doesn't taste like normal fries. It's got some strange spice to it. Maybe it's just my personal preference but I couldn't eat half of the fries because the ketchup plastic box is melted in the middle of the fries as you can see in the pic. I ordered on GrubHub and my friend and I, who both love chicken sandwiches, were highly unimpressed. The sandwiches had a great crunch but once inside were greasy and just unappetizing. I couldn't bite through mine because it hadn't been trimmed of fat properly. We split the first sandwich and couldn't even eat the second. Waste of $20 (with delivery) :( EDIT: I feel badly roasting these guys like this when I only tried one sandwich, so I'm adding a star. This one was a hard one for me to review, simply because I felt the actual taste was 3 stars for me, but the care and creativity of the flavors deserve 4-5 stars. The pros: huge dark meat chicken, crispy outside, creative fusion flavors. Cons: not enough sauce for the amount of chicken and bun meant a dry sandwich (esp. with the cheetos and pickled jalapenos), it wasn't very spicy despite getting the spiciest option, and the sandwich flavors weren't well balanced. There's a saying somewhere that the perfect meal has a balanced combination of salt, fat, acid, and heat. This needed a vinegary coleslaw, less fat, and more heat to be the perfect ratio. Otherwise, it just felt a little bit lacking on all fronts. If you're expecting a traditional Nashville hot chicken sandwich, this isn't the place to go to. However, if you love to play on the edge of different with a fried chicken sandwich, this is your spot. Oh, the Hetchys fries are also okay. read more

Perhaps this is an homage to Nashville Hot Chicken vs. an attempt to recreate it. I hesitantly ordered the Calabrian and Hetchy Hot, but hottedg sandwich (Hetchy Hot) rate a 1 out of 5 on my spicy meter. The sandwiches are still 4 out of 5 for flavor and enjoyment. But they are simply not hot enough for me. I am comparing the sandwich to Howlin' Ray's in Los Angeles. I can barely eat Howlin' Rays 2nd hottest spice blend. My first ever Yelp Elite event left me very impressed. Hetchy's Hots has all kinds of chicken sandwiches and fries, with their own unique flavors. I got the make your own sandwich, only because I'm not a huge fan of spicy foods, and it was great! I got the rancher dancher seasoning with some pickled onions, lettuce, and special sauce. I loved the sandwich because the chicken was flavorful and fresh, the special sauce was delicious, and the bun was nicely toasted. A had a slight problem with the sandwich in the size of the chicken. It was huge! And I had to eat a lot of chicken to the point where I was almost full before I even got to the other toppings and flavors. It was a very satisfying sandwich and I would recommend it for chicken and spicy food lovers. The regular fries were also a very generous serving, but they were a little less crunchy than I would have hoped for. Hetchy's Hot's was very accommodating in their packaging, with 3 packs of utensils, some plates, and lots of napkins. I appreciate well-packaged takeout because far too often restaurants don't include utensils and napkins and I can't eat the food. To top off my experience, the service was great! Update since my last review: I would give it a 4.5 but unfortunately Yelp doesn't allow it. I was contacted by Hetchy's telling me about their new updated sandwiches that were hotter and more flavorful. I tried the new hotter Hetchy's and the hotter Szetchy. Happy to say that both had a much more satisfying burn. The hotter oil makes a huge difference! The new oil combined with the flavor of the Szetchy make it my new go to. And all the good things still remained: super juicy and crispy chicken, fresh tasty ingredients, crispy fries, the large quantity etc. The only reason it's not 5 stars is that I'm still not a fan of the cheetos (they get soggy towards the end of the sandwich). But if you take those out, you have an almost perfect hot chicken sando! read more

Wow! I ordered the Hetchy's hot extra spicy. This sandwich was *massive*.. I actually had some left over for the next day. Flavor was delicious, nice and spicy and the chicken was perfectly crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. The szechuan fries were also a huge portion and the szechuan flavor was great. Best hot chicken I have ever had, and this is coming from a guy who lives in LA. Much better than the other top rated hot chicken spots, and trust me I have tried most of them.
