I'm not gonna lie.... We found this place using google maps trying to find somewhere on the way back to my sisters. Not being from the area, it was quite the experience and a little scary. One minute we're going by all these university buildings, and the next we're turning down the street where the restaurant is having people knocking on our windows. We didn't realize whatsoever this was sort of a downtown area. Parking is very challenging, and honestly with everything going on around us, I gave up because I couldn't figure out for the life of me which park pay app to use. We learned quick there is only take out as an option anyway. Ordering was super easy and done on a computer touch screen. I got the chicken hibachi and added a shrimp side as they didn't do combos of multiple options. The meal came with fried rice and noodles, veggies, and your protein. That totally went over my head not being familiar with what the meal looked like, but I really loved the noodles. The food was good, but overall had a lot of black pepper. There was also a lot of sauce on the food. Maybe teriyaki. We didn't expect that. I would recommend that being stated somewhere. My husband is a type 1 diabetic and wouldn't have been able to eat that with the amount of sugar in that sauce plus the carbs! You're able to pick two sauces to go with your meal. So I came here for lunch one day, it's kind of hard to get to just because of the parking situation, but Hibachi Box is totally worth it because of how much food you get! They have apparently removed the tables due to Covid so it's primarily take out/ carry out now. That said they have touch screens for you to order and customize your dish. They had many options for meat eaters and a veggie hibachi! My only criticism would that it would be nice to have tofu instead of just adding an egg to the veggie dish as your only protein option. Regardless, the veggies were awesome! They were all very fresh and the teriyaki sauce they were stir fried in was great. It came with both rice and noodles so you could get both, so if you're super hungry or a person on a budget, this is a great place to come since it's a lot of food! read more

This was hands-down, some of the best hibachi takeout I've ever had in my life. The steak was extremely tender, very juicy and super flavorful. The teriyaki sauce had a nice light glaze with a sweet yet not overpowering flavor. The beef with seasoned extremely well with a nice hint of black pepper. The food overall was hands-down fantastic. The rice was your basic fried rice seasoned appropriately tasted good nice and fluffy texture. The noodles this was my first time having these kind of noodles before they were not lo mein noodles they were different, but they were seasoned with salt and it had a glaze of the teriyaki sauce, which I was fine with. I ordered the steak and shrimp hibachi and the salmon hibachi. Portions are pretty generous. It came with rice, and noodles, and a side of veggies (mushroom, onions and zucchini). The steak was pretty good. The salmon was really dry. The shrimp was alright. Everything was super salty, even without the addition of the sauces. So I'm in the area for an event and wanted to grab something under $20 and filling. I pretty much played Russian roulette and landed on this spot. Parked up, placed my order at the kiosk, super convenient. Got steak hibachi w/ chicken, rice, noodles, zucchini, onions and a salad...sounds hefty but I was sure it would be a reasonable size. Boy was I surprised to see how much was in the damn bowl! Legitimately could eat a good 3-4 meals off this. And you know sometimes when they give you too much food, it's because it's straight up lacking in flavor. Not the case here, the steak and chicken were seasoned and I'm a fan of the teriyaki sauce. Are you a fan of that comfort Asian takeout food? This place is for you. I scarfed down my meal so fast. I got the shrimp hibachi. I will say that the box is seasoned with a good amount of salt and pepper (especially pepper). The fried rice and noodles are sooo good. I really like how they have it separated with the protein on top of the fried rice and the mix of stir fried veggies on top of the noodles. There is so much in that bowl! The shrimp is so tasty and I was very satisfied. Highly recommend for comfort food and a hearty meal. I enjoyed how you could choose two different sauces, which honestly weren't even needed due to how tasty the food was without them. But I enjoyed the teriyaki and the yum yum sauce! In this picture, I got chicken hibachi with extra rice and an egg. The chicken is loaded with sauce. I mean it is absolutely drenched. Think like a general Tsos flavor for the sauce. It's sweet but also pretty salty. The mound of chicken is piled on top of two hefty scoops of fried rice. This rice is spectacular. You would expect like takeout level rice, but no, this chewy and salty goodness. As the sauce from the chicken seeps into the rice, it is packed with excellent flavor. The egg on top adds a little protein but nothing special. The lo mien below that is like linguine style instead of your typical angel hair style from takeout. This surprisingly works very well, the noodle offers more of a bite, which I like a lot. Like I said above, this place hits on every note, it's fairly inexpensive too. It doesn't have a dining room which kinda sucks because you kind of have to get takeout, but it is totally worth it. And I'm not even sure what the tan looking sauce was. Somewhat on the salty side but lacks depth. Only thing I could stomach was the veggies and my add-on scrambled egg. Super clean establishment, prime location (for college students) affordable prices! I ordered the Shrimp hibachi box and the Yum Yum and ginger as my two sauces. It came with a small side salad (it was just shredded lettuce and cabbage and some dressing on the side). Wait time was a little while but it's because they make everything upon ordering so it's all freshly made. Amounts are very generous, and are about 2 full meals. I finished about a third of mine sitting at the place and brought the rest home, so definitely bang for your buck. Pretty crowded inside (not because of the amount of people, but I don't doubt that a lot of people come here) but because of the way the set up is -- not much open flow and it kind of feels like you're threading the needle when walking around. Gotta make do with the small space I guess! Customer service is undoubtably one of the best -- I was greeted, got a very detailed explanation of how the menu worked and what comes with it (first timer) and the staff was just super friendly all around. The reason why I'm docking one star is that I felt the sauce in the meal was a touch too salty. I didn't really add any of my sauces to taste with my meal for fear of adding too much to the already salty meal (though I tried both sauces and they are worthy of the accolades). Maybe Im just not sure how to eat the meal to enjoy all of the things together. Maybe mix the sauce with the meal and it tones down the salt level somehow? The shrimp, in contrast, and when not doused under the sauce, is the best shrimp I've ever had!!!! Cooked to perfection. And the coconut rice! My bf ordered the steak and shrimp box and added an egg with two sides of yum yum sauce. The egg cost extra but I loved the option of mixing up the proteins. And I loved that rice was on one side and noodles on the other. When we arrived home, the food was still hot! The bowls came with a salad + salad dressing. First time visiting Hibachi Box and it was a decent experience. I walked in and was greeted. I was unsure of what to order and what all came with the meal. I approached the cashier and he was very helpful and informative. I ended up ordering the chicken hibachi box. The meal comes with rice, noodles, mixed vegetables, 2 sauces and a side salad. I was slightly overwhelmed with all of the food that came with this meal. As I was finishing up my order the cashier asked what sauces I wanted. I overheard different people where I work taking about Hibachi Box, so I finally decided to try it for myself. I love a good hibachi dish and this one did not disappoint! You get a lot of food for $10, which always a plus. Each box of full of food and veggies, and you also get a small side salad with ginger dressing which was soooo good! I even poured some of it on top of my food. I had the shrimp hibachi with teriyaki and mustard sauce and it was quite tasty. It was so good, that since I still had enough left over from my lunch, I decided to go back after work to get one for my husband so I wouldn't have to cook dinner I have a feeling after he tastes it we will be going to Hibachi Box quite often! I convinced my office to order and I have to say everyone is impressed. We ordered at the registed and waited for our food . The staff was very nice & fast. The restaurant is small but has plenty of seating , we had to find street parking but its expected when your near VCU. I LOVED how easy and fast it was to order. Its like the Asian chipotle as far as menu set up except easier. You start with the protein which ranges from $8-11. You can get chicken,steak,veggies, shrimp , or salmon & the meal comes with veggies (zucchini &onion ), rice, noodles, and salad. You get to choose two sauces that comes on the side and dont forget to ask for some housemade chili oil . They also have house made juices, I tried the melon and ginger which I would get again but its more ginger than melon . They also sell beer but no liquor. When we first opened the boxed meal its seemed like alot of carbs and less meat but maybe my eyes were bigger than my stomach. It was definitely plenty of food , i even have leftovers for tomorrows lunch. I loved the way they packed our meals. It turned out to be pricey if you are a college student wanting variety because it totaled $19 before the drink. I still say Hibachi Ichiban in Chester, Va. has the best quality, quantity and price. The sauces are not your traditional white sauce and yum yum. The white has a strange kick to it and the yum yum it a weird reddish orange. I'm definitely not a fan. The salad dressing gets 5 stars! True hibachi salad dressing. The food was good I would call it excellent had the sauces been right. To me hibachi can be ruined if your yum yum is trash. That was the biggest lunch I have ever been served. I am eating the rest of it today. I tagged along with a group from the office who were heading out for their Friday treat for a Hibachi Box. They were stunned I had never been. They had all ordered for pick up but said it would it would be no problem for me to order there as my order would be prepared quickly. I ordered the chicken with yum yum sauce. It was well prepared, chock full of veggies (I asked for the mushrooms), rice and noodles. It is also given you to in an environmentally friendly to go container. I thought it was delicious.
