Huge portions. Great friendly service. Not a fan of the red onions vs white or yellow for hibachi but overall good food.

The service was top notch as well. All of the wait staff were friendly, knowledgeable of the menu, and took care of our large group well. I started with the Old Fashioned Flight, with their Aged Old Fashioned, one with Old Forester 1920, and one with Buffalo Trace that they said was their restaurants pick. The first 2 were really good, but I think they gave me the wrong drink, because the one with BT didn't taste like it had any bourbon in it at all. But the waiter switched it out for me with a Tequila OF, which was really good. They brought out two salads for the table, and their Cesar Salad was really good, the dressing was so good. I ordered the Australian Lamb Chops, which were amazing. Simply seasoned, but done so well. I ordered a side of Chimichurri sauce, and it was not needed at all. My wife had the meatloaf, which was delicious, and the group all enjoyed their meals and drinks. We left full and happy. I definitely recommend you add this place to you list if you've never been.

The restaurant is beautiful, cozy, and comfortable, and the hosts and servers have been excellent every time. We made reservations once through OpenTable and once by phone -- both were easy, and reservations are probably a good idea since they stay busy. The food has been great both times. On our first visit, my husband and I shared the ribeye and loved the flavor. Their Caesar salad is also surprisingly unique and delicious with broccolini instead of a traditional Caesar style. I also really appreciated being able to order a single Rockefeller oyster since most places require a half dozen minimum. The second time we visited for an early Mother's Day dinner with my son and shared the off-menu tomahawk, which was excellent as well. The only consistent issue we've had has been steak temperature. We usually order medium, but their interpretation of medium has come out significantly more rare than expected. The first time, we had to send the steak back, and they asked us to identify only the undercooked portions to recook separately, which was a bit awkward and something we hadn't experienced before at a steakhouse. The second time, we tried being more specific and even requested an approximate temperature around 140°, but the steak came out closer to medium-well. That said, the flavors, atmosphere, and service have been so enjoyable that we'll absolutely keep coming back. We're just hoping we can eventually land on the perfect medium steak on a future visit.

We had heard great things about Clayton Steakhouse since moving up from Tampa Bay two years ago…read more For whatever reason it took us until my wife's birthday last week to finally go. Sadly, it was very disappointing. We've been to several steakhouses in the area, including Lane's and Southern Vines, as well as the usual suspect chains. Clayton Steakhouse is priced on a higher end with most steaks above the $40 threshold. Prices comparable to one of our nearby favorites, The Depot on First in Knightdale. Unfortunately, the food, the atmosphere, and the service were all well below the Depot's standards. Stepping into the restaurant feels more like walking into an older neighborhood restaurant, than a steakhouse serving $40+ steaks. Basic tables and chairs, fairly close together. Not exactly the atmosphere you'd want for the birthday dinner of your spouse. The fact it was crowded with families shows there are still plenty of people who don't mind paying these prices for this kind of food. Our server was fine, although she seemed like she was a bit worn out. Friendly-ish. Contrast this with spending the equivalent money at the Depot, or another restaurant at that level where the service is polished and gracious. The greatest disappointment by far was the food. The meals included their highly touted salad bar, which was fairly well stocked, but not overly exciting. Then came the steaks which made us immediately regret coming. My wife ordered the 8oz filet which was a decent steak, but nothing spectacular. She commented the filet at Texas Roadhouse is better, which says a lot. Especially considering Texas Roadhouse prices are significantly lower. I had the 12oz ribeye. I ordered it medium rare and the steak came out on the far side of medium, very warm, slightly pink center. On top of this our meals were apparently sitting in kitchen for a bit since they arrived luke warm. Due to the overcooking my steak was dry and not tender at all. The flavor was okay, but far from the dry aged steaks at comparably priced steakhouses. We ended the night feeling like we had made a really bad decision. Even though we've been to the Depot many times already, we should have stuck with a known quantity. I have absolutely no idea what the obviously enthusiastic customers of Clayton Steakhouse see in this place. Maybe it was an off night for them? Don't know. Won't likely repeat.

Misleading Advertising & Terrible Customer Service…read more Extremely disappointing experience, especially since I booked this restaurant for our wedding anniversary based on the beautiful ambience they heavily advertise on social media. What they DON'T show is the other dining room we were seated in -- plain tables and chairs, almost diner-like, with none of the ambience shown online. It felt incredibly misleading. I explained to the front desk that it was our anniversary and politely asked to be moved to the nicer area. They were rude, dismissive and completely unapologetic. Instead, we were told we could come back in 1.5 hours. Their explanation was also contradictory: first, both areas are supposedly the same "main dining room" and cannot be distinguished when making a reservation, but then we were told the nicer area was fully reserved. So apparently guests can't choose the advertised dining area, but somehow it can be "fully reserved"? If you're booking this restaurant for the beautiful ambience you see online, beware -- that may not be where you're seated. Poor hospitality, misleading presentation and a terrible way to treat guests celebrating a special occasion. We won't be back.

Here's my expert review…read more We came here for our 4 year anniversary, made the reservation a day or so in advance... maybe even the night before? We were sat at a private booth overlooking the wine selection, open kitchen, and dry-aged beef display. Host greeted us, acknowledged the reservation and anniversary. The server did the same as soon as he arrived. ‍ Matt was our server; his global wine expertise helped provide guidance through pairing drinks with our meal. I also love when a server is opinionated on what to order, how to order it, and what to pair together... following his suggestions was a highlight of our experience. He immediately suggested when to order based on how long things take to cook - huge plus in my book so you are aware of pace and can order accordingly. We started with the Shrimp Cocktail and Hamachi Crudo... while the Hamachi isn't something we typically order, the quality was fantastic and such a treat. The Shrimp Cocktail... is simple, its itself, but the size and cocktail sauce, fresh flavor made it a perfect choice. Next we had 3oz of the A5 Wagyu with the recommended Shoyu sauce... perfection. Glad we listened to Matt on this one. We also shared the Prime NY Strip with another Matt recommended sauce... fantastic. We always order our meat Medium Rare, came out exactly that. Meat cut as easy as butter. Crust on the outsides were delicious and not too hard or salty, but just right. Honorable Mentions We were too full to order dessert or anything else, but a few things that caught our eye when passing our table were the Caesar salad, bread pudding, and homemade ice cream. We want to come back and sit in Matt's section and bring our parents! Thanks for making our night so enjoyable and memorable. Ps... I know new restaurants can have some kinks in the beginning, as seen in reviews from last year, but our experience was flawless and the pace/timing was perfect, especially when listening to our servers' guidance. I work in sales, I would absolutely bring my clients here. Beautiful establishment, accommodates groups, private dining room and secluded individual tables and booths.
