Wife and I enjoyed dinner at Rising Sun tonight. Their bar is now set-up and fully stocked and they seem to be building something on the back side, perhaps another walk-in refrigeration room? Anyway ... We arrived in the door and was greeted by A.J., who was behind the bar. He asked if we had ever tried Sake. We had tried it previously (elsewhere), but he offered a sample of a few different types and so we acquiesced. We tried three samples, all were good, but one we clearly liked - a Nigiri Sake (unfiltered). We both ordered a glass of wine ($4) to go with dinner, a nice Moscato form Chile as well as iced tea. For appetizers we ordered the Edamame and Sashimi Yellow Fin Tuna. The entrées we ordered were the Hibachi Shrimp, sub fried rice (mine, as usual) and my wife had the (NEW) Hibachi Tilapia with broccoli, instead of the rice. Our Edamame arrived 1st and was obviously cooked fresh and salted just right. Shortly thereafter our YF Tuna arrived, wonderfully presented as a rose on ice with some fresh flower petals. Dang it - I forgot to take a picture. Need to do that because the presentation is spectacular . The YF Tuna tasted perfect, obviously very fresh and sliced well. It was gone quickly as we both devoured it. I asked for a little wasabi and dipped it in soy sauce; my wife had a few pieces with a little fresh ginger. The entrées came and were again well presented. My wife's Tilapia was grilled very nice - she asked for one filet ($9), we understand there is a option for two. One filet with the broccoli was just the right size for her. She loved it. My Hibachi Shrimp was as great as ever - one thing I really like is the small amount of b/w sesame seeds they always sprinkle on the top of the rice for decorative purposes - nice touch. We were almost finished with our wine and entrees when my sister and her husband came in - what a nice surprise. They ordered the Hibachi Shrimp, sub Zucchini instead of Mushrooms and the Hibachi Scallops and a appetizer of the "Peppered" WF Tuna. The appetizer came out 1st and I sampled a bit - wonderful ... slightly seared with pepper crust, then sliced - served with an avocado slice and a sauce that I believe had just a hint of sage in it. Very good, see picture. I also had a scallop from my brother-in-laws' plate and it was cooked perfectly. Scallops can often be rubbery, undercooked, and chewy - these were perfect. Although I don't often eat scallops, just because of the cooking challenges. They both finished their plates as well and we all left about the same time. It was nice to have dinner with them and unexpectedly. We've been continuing to dine at Rising Sun, perhaps every other week since they opened and they continue to impress with their professionalism, creativity, and excellent food. A.J. and others have come to learn our names (and other customers as well) and at times will ensure to give us a personal thanks on our way out. We really enjoy the place. Still hard for us to believe it was the DQ all these years. Great addition to Midlothian and now in business for a little over one year as well. Congrats - we heard their 1st anniversary party was very nice. Today, when we were sampling the Sake, A.J. did say he was thinking of having a Sake tasting event on the patio in a few weeks, when it warms up for more than a few days at a time. Side note: reached out via email years ago about being a sponsor for local school group and they never responded and blocked me in kind. Nice. That was the final nail for us. I ordered a shrimp and chicken bowl with extra broccoli and they literally put 5 shrimp and I barely have chicken in it. I have ordered this before and it had meat in it. This is just all rice. This instantly became my husband and my favorite sushi place and we've been to a lot. Their rolls were super fresh and light but also filling and flavorful. They were a pretty standard price (6.50 for a California Roll and $10 for a specialty Roll). The staff was super friendly and helpful when we had questions. The decor was simple and nice and in no way in your face or offensive. It is a great place for date night and I will definitely bring my son next time we come. My only complaint? They don't have hot teas like green tea, but their coke dispenser made do. read more

Sushi in Midlothian in a repurposed Dairy Queen??? Well, I tried it out after driving by it a few times because the sushi options in town are expectedly sparse. I have to say I'm a repeat customer because this place is great! I like to get a nigiri combo and a roll and maybe an appetizer. I came to Hibachio to pick up an online order a few months ago, but they accidentally gave my food to someone else and gave me a $15 gift card to make up for me having to wait. Somehow it got thrown away by someone in my house, so I asked one of the employees if by some miracle it was attached to my rewards account, so I could be issued a new one. He was apologetic and said that there wasn't anyway they could find it. Then he proceeded to say he would give me a new card on them since I came back after having a "bad" experience. 10/10 customer service. They are busy for a reason. Every time we have eaten here, the service was good, the food was good, and the atmosphere is comfortable.

I don't know if they're cutting back costs or something but the food is just not as good anymore. They removed one of my family's favorite rolls (Phoenix Roll) and the rice was not seasoned enough. I literally had to add cold soy sauce, mix it, and reheat the whole thing for it finally taste good. So disappointed, guess I'll keep Ohana and Osuba as my go to for sushi now read more

Family was eating here nearly every week for a while, usually take out. Love that they are accommodating with special orders/requests. My regular is the Midlothian tower, but I have a few substitutions in there... they are very friendly and never make me feel like my preferences are an inconvenience. I'm lowering my review one star because honestly, the past couple of months the salmon has tasted fishy (not super fresh) and the order hasn't been accurate- which sucks when your dish is $17 or more- but over all these guys are still pretty good. Hubby and DD love it too- they get the hibachi and steamed options. Grateful to have a healthier option in town. *They also offer gluten free soy- so awesome. read more

Probably the place we frequent the most in Midlothian love the fried rice and sushi rolls.

Awesome place. The waitress is very attentive. The experience is all dependent on the hibachi cook you get.

First time here and I like it a lot. We ordered the hibachi meal for 2 comes with ck, steak, choice of rice, spring rolls, salad or miso soup for 22.95 Let me tell you is a great deal with a lot of food and just the right amount of yumminess. The place is clean, service is fantastic and their selection of teas are amazing. I had the peach sweet tea and my husband choose the hibiscus & raspberry tea. At the little bar area you can also find chopped serrano peppers to add to your meal. I love serrano peppers so I was a happy camper. The steak, ck and veggies cook to perfection. Fresh fried rice just good and the fact that they have sauce galore available for you at your table makes me feel so welcome. Love sauces... again I love sauces.
