If you like com phan, this is the place to go. Family style Vietnamese dinners! I thought for the amount given that the price was fair. Hien Thanh Restaurant makes it good-- the flavors are spot on, nothing was overly salty or sweet. You have fresh veggies as well as nicely cooked down one's. Fish, meat, etc. I absolutely loved the stuffed tofu stewed in tomato, it was so delicious with rice. We also tried their artichoke tea, I believe, and it was amazing!! My aunt said it was a little sweet for her, but I thought it was lovely since it was iced and refreshing. The service was good and they have bathrooms available. The restaurant was clean. It was very busy, but we were able to get a table thankfully! I highly recommend coming here for dinner if you're ever in the area. You won't regret it.

We love this restaurant for authentic homemade Vietnamese family style food. They have the freshest ingredients. Everything is delicious especially their Com Phan (family style combos) Must orders: small fried baby fish, rau muon, ca kho and canh chua.

I enjoyed this place! It's not fancy. Small place. Tables are super close. Small mom / pop location. Food is delicious! Like visiting my aunt Phung's house. Catfish soup and clay pot catfish is my fav. They even have bitter Mellon (which I don't like) but it was ordered. I would come back! 3 items - $39

Hien Thanh, a restaurant recommended by a friend in Orange County, was on my list. My wife was craving Canh Cua and Ca Kho To, while I was looking forward to trying their Banh It Ram. Both dishes were delicious and the best I've had. The Banh It Ram was particularly tasty and crispy. However, the restaurant was quite small, and my chair bumped into another person's chair behind me. Despite this minor inconvenience, the customer service was excellent.

The store is clean and the staff are nice. They are fast with orders. We always come here for rau muong, canh chua and cá or thit kho to. Their dishes are always freshly made and tasty. The food was well seasoned, not too salty or not too plain. The prices are also very reasonable. Highly recommended if you are looking for family meals.

I was excited to try their Banh It Ram since I've heard great reviews about it. $12 for 3 pcs, should taste amazing, right??? Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed. It was sooo bland and even their fish sauce was bland. I didn't like anything about it. The fried bottom had a lot of oil and squirted out when you take the first bite. Don't waste your money, I already waste it for you. If you still want to try it, I recommend going somewhere else. My one star is only for this dish and nothing else.

    cơm phần gia đình ($39) -- family-style for 2

Hidden-gem Vietnamese family-style dishes, away from home. They closed at 9 PM, yet the line was out the door at 8:30 PM -- so it must be good. We had to pre-order our dishes while waiting then got our food upon seating. The restaurant is a little crowded but cozy. We got cơm phần gia đình ($39), it's a family-style prix fixe menu for 2 people. You will get to pick 3 dishes: 1 soup dish, 1 savory dish, 1 stir-fried dish and it comes with rice. We ordered canh chua cá (sweet & soup cat fish soup), cá kho tộ (caramelized catfish), and khổ qua xào trứng (stir-fried bitter melon eggs). We added the sườn rim (caramelized pork spare ribs). Caught by surprise everything was delicious, from the seasoning and flavoring in every dishes. Staff were attentive.

Great place for a vietnamese home-cooked style meal. The dish that keeps me coming back is the caramelized cat fish. The ooey gooey saltiness of that sauce is oh so delicious with rice! Their rau muong (morning glory) is also amazing as it's stir fried with garlic. Service and ambiance of the restaurant is average. Saw alot of large families and group of friends dining here and sharing the food, family style.

This place has really authentic, family-style Vietnamese food. The flavors feel very homemade and traditional. The only downside is that the tables are a bit small, so seating can feel a little cramped when dining in

Hien Thanh Restaurant is a local Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of Little Saigon. This spot sits in a very tiny corner of the plaza, about my friend's parents recommended it. I came on a random weeknight, and it was surprisingly packed! I ordered a Bun Bo Hue because I was craving it, and the soup came out delicious. I thought the meats were also pretty good, but I wish there were more. I liked the amount of veggies they gave also! The sauce was yummy. The service left a lot to be desired, but it was solid. Overall, Hien Thanh Restaurant was a solid spot for Vietnamese food!

Super delicious canh chua and ca kho! Shrimp or fish option for canh chua, perfect for hang over days. I ordered the family meal for 2 which comes with 3 dishes. Pick a soup option, vegetable option and entree for $39. Definitely well worth your money!

    Braised Catfish (Ca Kho To)
    Cindy H.

My favorite Vietnamese comfort food for family type meals (com phan). Flavor and food is always on point! Unfortunately they are on the pricier side with their small portions, compared to other restaurants that serve this type of food. Braised Cat Fish (Ca Kho To) (5/5): The catfish fillets are braised in a sweet and savory caramel-y fish sauce. The sauce has the perfect caramelization and balance of flavors, fully penetrating the fish. I even drizzle extra sauce on my rice (it's that good). Sweet & Sour Catfish Soup (Canh Chua Ca) (5/5): A delicious combination of sweet, sour, and salty - a true definition of umami! The soup has fresh pineapple, tomatoes, celery, beansprouts, elephant ear stalks, and catfish. The soup is served in a pot, which keeps it hot throughout the meal. Thit Rim Tom (Caramelized Pork and Shrimp) (3/5): Thinly sliced pork belly and shrimp in a sticky caramelized fish sauce (similar to the one used for the braised catfish). The pork was a little dry with abundant fat pieces. The dish was so-so with small portion sizing - I wouldn't get this again. The menu may be a little intimidating with few English translations, but don't hesitate to ask if you need some help. FYI, their popular dishes are pictured in the menu. Service is average with food coming out quickly. It's a small casual restaurant that can quickly get packed. They also accept credit cards (which is a plus for Vietnamese restaurants in Westminster). Overall great spot to get a Vietnamese home cooked meal!

The chicken was crispy and the dipping sauce gave it that extra yummy goodness. The dish also came with a side of broth that had chicken bits in it, was nice to help digest your dish. I also loved that they gave you pickled veggies & fresh veggies. We also ordered the Loi's Fusion Saltado, upgraded the rice to garlic egg fried rice. The beef was soft and tender, the fries were nice and crispy and the fried rice was fresh. You 100% need to get the Thai Tea. A lot of place add too much cream/half and half diluting the tea flavor, they do not skimp on the actual tea in their drink. The color speaks for itself on the dark orange hue!

I'm a bit late getting around to writing this, and unfortunately, they are already closed, but I still felt like I had to share my experience. I'm not completely surprised that they closed, especially after trying their bò né. I've had this dish many times at different places around Orange County, and unfortunately, this was probably the weakest version I've come across. The first thing that stood out was the presentation. As you can see in the picture, there was this purple-colored sauce on the meat itself, which honestly did not look very appetizing. To make things worse, the sauce was cold and did not heat in time with the skillet, which really took away from the experience. The flavor itself wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't anything memorable. It was just okay, and when you factor in the cold food and the presentation, it made the whole dish disappointing. With so many places around Orange County serving bò né at a much higher level, I would probably recommend spending your money elsewhere. If you were wondering whether you missed out on some hidden gem, don't worry, you didn't. This one felt more like a piece of coal than a diamond. That being said, every restaurant has its journey, and with more time, maybe they could have found their footing. Hopefully, they can take this experience as a lesson, refine their recipes, and bring something better in their next venture. I am rooting for you Loi!
