Viet Food Review Viet Food used to be one of my favorite places for Phnom Penh-style noodle soup. The owner is always kind and welcoming, but the service from the staff can be hit or miss. Some employees are friendly, while others... not so much. Today, I came in with my daughter, and unfortunately, our waitress made the experience disappointing enough that I probably won't be back. I asked for a plastic fork and a plastic spoon for my daughter. Instead of simply handing them to me, she dropped them onto the table in a dismissive manner. It caught me off guard because my daughter and I hadn't done anything to inconvenience her. Her attitude felt unnecessarily rude and made us feel very uncomfortable. I understand that everyone has bad days, but when you work in customer service, a friendly attitude makes all the difference. Customers aren't there to absorb the stress of someone else's day. One more thing that really surprised me happened when I paid. There wasn't an option to leave a tip on the credit card terminal, so I asked, "Oh, I can't leave a tip on the card?" She replied, "If you want to, you have to tell me before I run the card." Maybe that's their policy, but the way she said it came across as cold and unfriendly. It made me feel awkward, especially since I didn't have any cash with me. This was honestly the first time I've experienced something like that at a restaurant. The food is still good, but great food alone isn't always enough. Friendly service is what turns first-time customers into regulars and keeps people coming back. read more

I came here around 3PM on a Tuesday. There were only a couple other tables, so no wait. I've been trying to find a place that serves Hu Tieu Nam Vang that rivals the one I've had in Vietnam. Tried sooo many spots and omg THIS IS IT!! It tastes so similar to the one I've had in Saigon. I love getting the dry version with soup on the side. The noodles were sooo yummy and chewy and the dish had the perfect amount of meat, vegetables, and flavor. The owner was really sweet. They don't speak a lot of English here, and all the customers were Vietnamese, so you KNOW this is authentic lol. The dish was about $14. Thank you for the delicious lunch! read more

Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang: 9/10 I love hu tieu broths that have small bits of celery in it. Perfect amount of toppings (liver, shrimp, ground prok, pork rinds, pork heart, pork, quail eggs) Bún nước Lèo Sóc Trăng: 9/10 as good as bun nuoc leo soc trang on brookhurst and hazard. This one also had squid. Love how fresh each topping tasted. Thick piece of catfish that doesn't taste like a frozen fish filet Mì hoành thánh: 8/10 again, super generous toppings. Had 7 pieces of shrimp pork wontons, pork, quail eggs, shrimp. I love how all their shrimp is perfectly cooked. And love their use of freshly boiled quail eggs too. Not the canned ones. read more

Coming back to get different things in the menu. The place was not so busy the time we went. Family got the usual Phở and Hủ Tiếu. Requested Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang, but with egg noodles instead, and they definitely delivered. The noodles were a little thicker than my liking, but the flavor was good. Most places make it really salty, but here was balanced. Props to them for always giving such a friendly service. Highly recommended!! read more

Hu tieu nam vang is one of my fav viet dishes so I love going around Garden Grove and trying different spots. Stumbled upon Vietfoods on Yelp and I'm so happy I went. IT WAS THE BEST HU TIEU IVE HAD IN THE AREA AND I HAD THEM ALL. Such a generous portion for obly $13! What a steal and the lady serving us was super nice! My friend got the wonton noodle soup and it was good as well. Please please check out this place for hu tieu, you won't regret it. Other places lacked flavor but I found this to be amazing! Vietfoods is the only place I trust for authentic Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang. I've been a loyal customer of the owner since the days she was making and selling hủ tiếu from home. Over the years, I've tried hủ tiếu from countless restaurants, but none came close, until I discovered Vietfoods. The flavor here is the real deal. A bowl is $14 (no tax), and the portions are generous. They also give you a hearty side of fresh mixed greens. While their menu includes a few other noodle dishes, hủ tiếu is definitely their standout. I did try the wonton soup once, but it was a miss for me--the wrapper was too chewy, and the broth lacked flavor. That said, I'll always come back to Vietfoods for my hủ tiếu fix. The staff is friendly and attentive, and as a bonus, the owner is truly the sweetest! P/S: I highly recommend their fruit tea also. It's not too sweet and very refreshing. read more

Food was prepared quick and came out nice and warm! My mom and I got the Hu Tieu Nam Vang. Vegetables that accompanied the dish were fresh (at other places they're sometimes withered). I really enjoyed the Hu Tieu here- the meat wasn't smelly, the shrimp felt freshly peeled, and the noodles had a soft chew to it. Overall the tables were clean and everything was orderly. Pretty decent tasting new dishes: Hu Tieu Muc, Bun Thit Lui, and Pho Bo. Couldn't try the Sticky Rice with Crab since they temporarily stopped making it, according to the owner. I only ordered to go and they sure gave plenty of accompanying herbs/veggies. 2 minor negatives: the parking situation (which is known issue in this tiny strip mall with 4 food places), and the wait time (despite my calling ahead and arriving 15 minutes after as promised, the food still took another 15 minutes to be ready. There were only one or two other customers dining in at that time and the soup didn't have to be heated up for my to go order. I couldn't help but wondering if they waited until I showed up before making the food in fear of "fake" phone order?) Anyhow, might come back next month for the Crab Sticky Rice (but will have to call one day ahead as advised by the owner). read more

If you ever wondered what it's like to eat instant noodles that gave up on life, this is the place. The noodles were so soggy and sad, they practically dissolved on contact. They are supposed to be firm and chewy, but instead I got something that felt like it was boiled straight out of a cup noodle packet--and maybe boiled twice for good measure. Either the cook skipped noodle school or just threw in whatever was lying around. And then there's the parking. Honestly, your car has better odds surviving a demolition derby. Last time I went, a lady tried to reverse out and managed to hit both sides of her car like she was practicing parallel parking blindfolded. Do yourself a favor--leave the Lambo at home. We wanted to try and support this local business but I guess the business owner didn't care about their customers. Came in on a Friday afternoon and absolutely no one there to greet us or seated us. We seated ourselves and waited for 5 mins but still nothing so we took the initiative to go find a menu so we can look through it while we wait. After 10 mins still nothing so we tried to flag down the staff by running to their kitchen. Told them we were ready to order and they said ok. One lady came out to drop off foods for the couple that was there before us but she went back inside. We had enough of waiting so ended up leaving. We found this place by chance and thought we'd give it a try. I think they are in a soft opening phase. I love me some good Vietnamese noodle soup and this place did not disappoint. I got their number #10 and my husband got the dry version number #11. The broth was on point for me and the restaurant was very generous on the protein and portion size. My husband also got their Vietnamese iced coffee and it was really good. Had lots of flavor and not overly sweet. Since it was a soft opening they offered free iced tea or herbal tea. I went with the herbal tea and thought it was good and refreshing. Keep in mind it's a soft opening, so not everything is perfect and can be slow. Although the service when we went was great! The lady who helped us was very sweet and accommodating. I would highly recommend coming here. This spot is an absolute hidden gem for hu tieu nam vang!! The broth was incredibly flavorful, clear, and authentic. The portion size was generous, and the variety of meats was tender and tasty. Easily one of the best hu tieu nam vang I've had in the area. I also tried their Four Season Honey Fruit Tea, and it was refreshing, very fruity, and came in a large cup. Had the worst experience here ever. First time in my life that I had to walk out from a restaurant. Came in the restaurant with nobody working there to serve us. Had to walk to the cashier and grab the menu and then walked to the kitchen to ask for help. 5 minute later one of the waiter came out with another customer food and ignored me. Knowing chi Nghi since she's still make hu tiêu kho at home, I always have to come over to pick up ( my favorite is hu tiêu kho) that's one of the best in OC, over 20 years since I leave vietnam, nobody or any restaurants can make this authentic hu tiêu kho excellent like her. I have been a loyal customer before the owner opens her restaurant. She puts lots of dedication in the food and you can taste the quality and freshness of the food. I used to buy to go when she was home chef on Sat and sometime I didn't have time to eat until Monday and the food still taste good. As a person knowing how to cook well, that fact tells me she puts extra care in the prep. Hu tiếu broth is very flavorful, you can almost feel like you eat in Vietnam, which is super rare. There are good hú tiếu naybe in OC but not hủ tiếu nam vang (Phnom penh noodle) and this place delivers the taste and flavor. The order comes with generous and fresh veggies to eat with it, not like the other places. If you like hu tiếu nam vang, you should try this place. The restaurant is clean, staff is friendly. And the herbal drink is just the right balance and you can taste the sweet from the ingredients like la Han qua, dry jujube, not a sugar based drink. read more
