First of all, server didnt know what beers were on tap, she commented that the bartender keeps switching them out. When I went up to the bar, to check, she was also the bartender...UM ok! She was also the only person working on a sunny afternoon, with like 10 tables, so the service was slow, but not her fault. They also didnt have a lot of things avaiable food wise, that were on the menu. Every time I would order an appetizer, "we are out of that", even though they opened an hour before.....We ordered food, mostly good, but the burger I got was SUPER greasy!! like dripping with grease, I patted it with my napkins to get some off, but I still ended up getting an upset stomach from it the rest of the day! Most egregiously repulsive food I've ever been served in a restaurant. French fries were served dripping soaked in oil with the texture and consistency of wet noodles. Chicken wings were served red and bloody on the inside covered in a flavorless sauce. I fear for my health after the one bite of the raw chicken I took before pushing them aside. This has become a great place for me to stop on way way home after a visit to the nursing home just a few blocks away. First night had the cheese curds, which are awesome and light. None of that overly salty chewy cheese here. Also had the all you can eat fish and chips special, which was very good but we couldn't even finish the first plate because there was so much food., The next time we had cheese curds and the salad with the coconut chicken and raspberry dressing. I keep trying this place because I really want to like it. Every single time, the service is BRUTALLY slow. Staff is always nice, but my God, you wait long periods of time for everything, even when it's just you and one other table in the whole joint. They did an awesome job on the remodel and the outside patio will be nice in the summer, but I doubt that'll be enough to get me to return. The fifth time was not the charm for me! I have been wanting to stop by HH for quite some time and I finally did this week. I wasn't disappointed. The place is comforting. Staff are super nice and really want you to enjoy the food they make for you. I had a hankering for a sandwich even though I was tempted with the fillet of beef stroganoff or the fish and chips, I still went for the turkey club sandwich on sour dough. It was very delicious and went well with my french fries. My hubby got the burger, he liked it enough. I really want to come back for breakfast and can't wait. Placed an order at 4pm yesterday for a 7pm delivery. Received a text that my order was 'delayed' and was expected to arrive between 7:30 and 7:45 which was frustrating but whatever. Around 7:40, I receive a call from the Grubhub driver advising that my order was NOT ready and that he'd been waiting at the restaurant for 40 minutes. Upon calling the restaurant, I spoke with the OWNER who was UNFORGIVABLY rude and after advising that they were very busy due to St. Patrick's Day and that it 'didn't matter' that my order was placed at 4pm, hung up on me. Though the food IS good, it's not worth the trouble and lack of accountability this establishment displays. I've had issues in the past with my order being late AND incorrect to which I've again, never received an apology or any means of rectifying the situation. NEVER eating/ordering here again. Best pub tavern in Gladstone Park! Here you can get a real cocktail (i.e., not diluted like in so many neighboring joints). The reuben sandwich is loaded with quality meats and the Highway House burger with all the fixings including thin onion rings, basil tomato, and even a fried egg is fabulous. Atmosphere with dark oak trimmings is cozy and you can even talk because they don't try to drown the place with loud music. Just wish they didn't have only bar-height stools and tables in the happening area near the bar--it means you have to isolate yourself upstairs in the "dining room" if you want to sit in a regular comfortable chair. read more

Um. Yeah... so the food was pretty darn good. I had the cod tacos and my wife had the rib eye. A buddy had a burger and loved it. Kudos to the food. The management was no good. We had a new server. No bigs. She was very nice. It was obvious she was learning as she went. Again no big deal. Service was a bit slow but she was trying hard to get to all her tables. We got our appetizer promptly. Curds. Awesome. Not overly breaded. We ordered drinks after we got our entrees and our server dropped a glass of wine off the tray which hit a glass of water. Both shattered into our food and drinks. Spilled onto my leg and shoes. Picked shards of glass out of my leg and arm. Obviously an accident and I felt really bad for our server. She was so embarrassed and apologetic. So two of us had glass free food while two of us had to wait for our entrees again. About 15 minutes later, after our server cleaned up, the owner/manager came by and asked us what happened. She had no idea. She asked if we ordered our food at separate times. We told her all that happened and then she disappeared. 30 minutes later we got our food with tons of apologies. Then the check. Four adults who had a few glasses of wine, a couple mixed drinks, and the entrees for $138. Sounds right except they never even knocked off $1.00 for the bacon that was on my friends burger. I asked another server, who was the only one to be found, and she said that the manager went home for the evening. She called the manager's cell. Manager came back the restaurant from home (weird) and after I asked WTF she looked dumbfounded and thew her server under the bus. She knocked off 1 round of drinks. All in all the food was really good. Management was brutal. Oh and it was my wife's bday. My advice: pick another joint for a bday dinner. read more

This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem. The outdoor patio is awesome in the summer. It's a local crowed so it's a laid back and relaxed atmosphere. The bruschetta is amazing (it has goat cheese, so it has to be good). It is a more simple menu, but everything on it is good. The service was great as well and the staff was very friendly. I would highly recommend this place for their food and their service. The staff was very friendly and we had very quick service. We ordered their Zummo Bloody Mary which O.M.G, it's was massive and delicious! The Zummo Bloody Mary came with enough food and Bloody Mary to satisfy 2-3 people. The food was really delicious. My favorite was their wings! The Bloody Mary mix was really good, as well. I am now completely overly stuffed but very satisfied. Now time for a nap! We live in the neighborhood and have been hoping for a nice place like this. It has great street parking. A beautiful interior, with a nice bar area that has plenty of seating and a great seating section a few steps up if you prefer a more dining area atmosphere. We started with the cheese curds, they were delicious!. My husband had the burger which was outstanding. My ribeye sandwich, (this also comes as a full dinner that I look forward to trying), was cooked exactly like I ordered, the sour dough bread was grilled to perfection. The fries were nice and crispy. I took a slice of cake home and had a bite upon arrival, looking to save the rest for later. Good luck with that. The cake was a tasty treat I am sure to order most times I return. The prices were just as they should be. Very affordable dinner with superb service. We will return I am sure again and again. The menu had numerous items that we both look forward to trying on future visits.. I recommend coming to try as I feel you will return too. I've had breakfast, lunch, and dinner and the food is all terrific, fresh and prepared on site. AWESOME burgers. As the rest of the reviews say - CHEESE CURDS - Order them. They are unreal. Beer selection is solid - craft beer staples and domestics. Full stocked liquor bar for the cocktail drinker. The staff is excellent and interior is perfect for a little neighborhood bar. My boyfriend and I are new to the neighborhood and checked out Highway House unsure what to expect. This place is a hidden gem! Our server Christine was very attentive, knowledgeable and pleasant, and we are happy to be in her section when we return. We are also really happy to find out they allow dogs on their patio, which is a game changer for our lab who likes to tag along. The food is also fantastic-- a step above your run of the mill bar food. I love the bruschetta! Rib-eye sandwich was delicious; tender, juicy and loaded with flavor. Fries were a nice touch. Coconut chicken salad was excellent with more than enough chicken, fresh greens and a lots of yummy berries. Split a fabulous piece of chocolate cake, which could have fed 3-4 people. OK, I'm a newby, a first-timer, a rookie...but I can state the fish tacos were as fine as any I've had, including San Diego where I thought I discovered fish taco Nirvana. While the menu is not expansive, it shows diversity: instead of 25 burger versions of varying quality you get like two, which I've heard are wonderful. Can't vouch personally but the people at the next table were in happy burger land, adjacent to fish taco Nirvana. I'm heading back in a few days to sample their b'fast/lunch selections. Pretty Good! Been here twice. The Southwest and Reuben egg rolls very good. Yesterday I had the stuffed chicken breast which was a special and it was both tasty and the presentation was good(they sliced it a few times and it both looked and it was easier to eat).
