This place may be the death of me. I moved two blocks away and I think of their conchas every single day and have to practice extreme self restraint to not go every morning. When I do go, I am like a kid in Disneyland. What can I say, I am obsessed with baked goods. Their conchas are so soft with just the right amount of sweetness. I have also tried the cortadillo, polverones, and empanadas de fruita. Everything I've tried there has been amazing. I like to dip my polverones in coffee and eat it that way. Lastly, the prices are amazing. I walked out of there with about 8 things today for $13. I will forever be a repeat customer. read more

This was my third time shopping here, and the attitude is consistently awful. The woman at the counter has zero customer service skills and is openly rude. She aggressively demanded--twice--that I use shared tongs, despite single-use paper being available and clearly more sanitary. Those tongs are touched by countless customers and are not sanitized between uses. Her tone was condescending, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. After I paid, she topped it off with a sarcastic, snarky "have a good day." It felt intentional and disrespectful. No matter how good the baked goods might be, consistently terrible service like this makes the place not worth visiting. I will not be back. read more

I have ordered cakes for birthdays and they are cute and delicious. The bread is also delicious. The piggy bread is one of my favorite here because anywhere else the molasses flavor is not there but here it is absolutely perfect. I will continue to order here! I don't know where to begin...MOSTLY BECAUSE I WANT TO GATEKEEP...I have other reviews on some pretty amazing Panaderías in Southern California. I am always looking for THE panadería. I will not mention other names in this review, but if you're a foodie that appreciates good pan, you probably already know which ones I am referring to. I have not tried a single piece of bread I do not like in this place. The cuernito relleno de crema, it is fluffy, yet layered and the taste is just perfect as well as the filling. Que rico el pan dulce I love this place! I would honestly give it 4.5 stars but because the customer service was so good I gave it a 5. What I didn't care for too much was the Bolio and donuts. I like my Bolio dense with a pinch of sweetness, this one is more airy and not sweet at all. The donuts were ok but they didn't give you that melt in your mouth texture. Very disappointed in their values. During election season, they tried to influence my aunt to vote a certain way. While I am not fully opposed to republicans, I am opposed to MAGA and this establishment made it clear to my aunt and other customers that they are pro-maga. Their bread quality has also decreased over the years, so switching to another local bakery is overdue, especially going in favor of a bakery that stands in solidarity with the community they serve. read more

Hilda's is a small bakery that has a two block radius smelling like heaven. I smelled this spot before I found it. Their variety is great, their prices are reasonable, and the bread is DELICIOUS! Parking can be a little difficult on a weekend but it's worth it. read more

I love a good Mexican Bakery and this one sure hit the spot when I had one of those cravings. When I came in, I could not make up my mind because they had so much to choose from and it all looked so very good. At the end, I ended up choosing a couple of Cuernos because I wanted something buttery. They were only .60 cents a piece, so I picked one up for a homeless guy outside and myself. The cuerno or Mexican croissant was very moist inside and had a delicate buttery exterior. It was not as flaky as a French croissant, but it was moister and softer. I liked that it was a little airy and with a mild buttery flavor. At .60 a pop, these are a great and delicious. They also carry a variety of sweet breads, including: Besos (kisses), Campechanas, Conchas (shells), Empanada (turnovers), Marranitos/Cochinitos/Puerquitos (little pigs), Molletes (cheeks), Orejas (ears), and one of my favorites, Elotitos or corn ears. The lady who served me was very nice and made me laugh. They are very nice peope who work here. The place is small, but they sure manage to keep a lot of sweet breads on hand. read more

The selection is good, the pastries are okay, and the prices are low. But, the lady at the register is not very friendly. This place is outstanding. We needed some dessert for a Mexican themed dinner party and decided to venture over to Hilda's. Parking was a little tough midday but we found a spot about a block away. We were impressed with the selection in such a small place, and the aroma of the store made me instantly hungry even though I had just eaten. Came here looking for Bavarian Cream Conos with powered sugar sprinkled on top, they were the favorite of a friend's father, who had passed away, and they wanted some at the life celebration. I live in Chula Vista area and tried to find the conos at many panaderías down here but could not. I was so glad when I found them here! And, everybody who tried one said they were super delicious!!! I had been craving pan dulce for months and I stumbled upon this gem whilst visiting with my boyfriend, recently. The location is a bit off putting, but I think the best treats come from the darkest holes in the wall... (well... sometimes, anyway...) The variety of breads here are reminiscent of mexican bakeries south of the border, and provide the same quality and taste. This place is probably the most authentic bakery on this side of the border! At .60 cents a piece you simply cannot go wrong with trying a little bit of everything! This place is one of the classic 'hole in the wall' establishment. Conchas are 0.70 cents & empanadas are $1.00. I got there about 8am and the bread was warm and fresh. There's not that much filling in the empanadas but they still taste good, and the conchas were tasty. read more

I have been coming to this bakery since I was about 2 years old (late 80's), and it is by far the best authentic Mexican bakery in San Diego. My family and I usually have dessert after dinner and I would say we end up at Hilda's at least 3 times a week. My parents still live around the corner so I end up enjoying their freshly baked, pieces of heaven (conchitas), more often than I'd like to. If you are ever in the area, and even if you are not, I would definitely recommend stopping by! They do accept cash only, but I never find myself spending more than $5 for my family and I, unless I'm picking up extra "pan dulce" for work. -I read some of the other reviews that mention their churros, I consider myself a regular here and I have NEVER had their churros. It's a really hidden bakery, if you aren't specifically looking for it you might miss, like I have. I've leaved in city heights and have passed it so many times without noticing it. But do to this Stay at Home order my parents haven't been leaving their house and my dad wanted me to get him Mexican bread, since he can't go to Tijuana we're he usually gets it from. Right now they are only letting 2 ppl enter at a time due to social distancing and it's really small but they have all times of bread. I was looking for one called "niño En vuelto" which looks like a small red ball with coconut and conchitas. My dad really enjoyed both.
