Just recently I visited and purchased some sweet bread and donuts and their cost almost doubled, about a 70% rise on their sweet breads and like i said their quality has gotten worse. This morning, I arrived early to an appointment and to kill time I stopped by a well-known bakery in Logan for some coffee and pan dulce. While I was paying, a man came in and gently asked for a water cup. One of the women working in the back responded harshly, saying, "That cup costs me a dollar, why would I just give you one?" It was said without any compassion. I could feel that he just needed a little kindness and water --maybe for himself, maybe for his dog. So I turned to him and said, "Pick whatever pan dulce you'd like, I'll get it for you." Then I told the cashier, "Please add his pan and water cup on my tab." The cashier looked at me, a little embarrassed but grateful, and thanked me. I said, "It's no trouble at all. Right now, especially in these times, we must care for one another. That's how we honor who we are and where we come from." Still, I left feeling heavy. I was raised with the sacred teaching that you never deny food or water to someone in need. Kindness is a spiritual offering. Shame on you, Panchita's Bakery. May you remember the spirit of generosity and do better. I did not come to this place of business to have my change thrown at my hand and treated in such manner. After exploring Chicano Park, you should head to Panchita's Bakery #3. I am constantly on the lookout for bakeries. Call it my personal (unhealthy) obsession. But hey, I guess there are worse things. Like most Mexican bakeries, the first step involves grabbing a pair of giant tongs to select your dessert and a cafeteria tray to stack them on. Before moving to California (from the east coast), I never experienced a Mexican bakery. However, so many of the baked goods reminded me of my travels and the delicious french baked goods (that I definitely sampled a lot of). Turns out, it was the French and Spaniards who introduced such baked goods as crispy rolls, baguettes and other sweets to Mexico. Thanks Google! Panchita's Bakery #3 has a total of 3 bakeries (hence the obvious name) as well as a restaurant in San Diego's popular North Park neighborhood. If you're like me, you'll have a hard time picking out a dessert -- the bakery churns out more than 160 varieties of breads, pastries, cookies and desserts. I highly recommend the "Manzana Empanada" (or apple pastry). After loading up our tray with nearly a dozen pastries, our total came out to less than $10. This could get dangerous! read more

I'm just going to be completely blunt. I never leave reviews unless a place is really good or really bad. Unfortunately I shouldn't have set my alarm for 5 to show up at 5:30 and expect the freshest food. I should have slept in. I show up and first off, the selection is very small, not much to get. But that's not even why the low rating. Honestly I got 4 different items and they're all terrible. Hard, definitely old, I tried an initial bite when I got in the car and genuinely was choking trying to swallow because of how dry it was. Every item was not only dry but it taste like nothing, there's no flavor. I regret waking up to come here. Do not recommend in the slightest. They also packaged a cake I got where when I opened it, all the icing was pulled off cause they put it on the bottom. Other items are hard as a brick. For 7$ not even close to worth. I like a good Mexican American bakery and this one came through for me with flying colors. I bought 5 pieces of Mexican bread of different types and shapes. All of them tasted exactly the same. All was done here was that they shaped them look differently. That's not what I remember bread use to taste like back when I was a child. Change the darn recipe for each type of bread people. Use your imagination (if you have one). So I left the bread in the car for a few hours. Checked the bag where the bread was in. The bottom part of the bag had a big stain of grease. As I examined the bread, it was crumbly and hard. Horrible customer service, it was 3 ppl in line, no one came to help, there was a door bell to ring for service it was pressed multiple times. The first person in line said he'd been waiting for 10 minutes and no one came to the window. I yelled through the window and asked if they were open the guy continued to ignore me till the moment I said I was going to take a picture of him and put a review, then he proceeded to call someone on the phone more likely to cover his ass for his wrong doing . This place has wonderful Mexican breads, ranging from .80-1.20. This place is in Barrio Logan and is in a shop ion the corner this bakery is open until 9:30pm, they also serve coffee and icecream for only 1.20. This location has taken the proper precautions to protect their customers during this Covid-19 pandemic. Each customer is not allowed inside as the entrance is covered with plexiglass. The baker takes and orders behind the small window on the plexiglass via words and hand signals, which I truly appreciate for safety reasons. I love all of the pastries here and love their existence as there's not many bakeries to choose from in Central and southern San Diego. From the conchas to the empanadas de cajeta you get all the sweet tradition and airy fluffiness in every pastry. I love that they don't skimp on the sugar ratio to pastry, which makes you salivate with each and every bite. The only minor issue is that the pastries sometimes are over proofed with yeast, which affects the sweetness. Yes yes I realize this location is old school in not taking card payments, but you can buy a lot with just a couple dollars. This review is only for the location and Rosca De Reyes I have not tried any of there other breads. This is a small Mexican bakery close to the I-5 in Barrio Logan. The parking lot is a little tight but if you are patient you can wait for a spot or find parking on the street. I bought a small rosca, I was looking for just enough for the office. It was $16 which I thought was a little pricey. It was about 12 inches long and it didn't look like it was worth the price until we cut it open and saw that it stuffed with candied fruit and nuts (Walnuts to be exact so if you have an allergy beware). This is the first time that I eat or see a rosca stuffed with most of the fruit/candy that usually goes in the outside. We all liked it, the breading was good traditional rosca bread, the stuffing made sure you had a yummy bite every time. If I am ever in the area I will try their Mexican bread since the rosca was good. They did not have any when I stopped by at 8:30 in the morning on Dia de Reyes :( I think it was because they had a lot of roscas on all the selves. read more

Attention: Mrs. Maria C. Avila, Friday, April 15, 2022--Review is on female cashier in her early 20s. At 7:50am, give or take, I walked in to the bakery to buy bread. At the time to pay, I was given the price and handed the money to the cashier. She began to retrieve my change, paused and said something, I can tell she was short on the change but I could not hear what she said exactly. I have difficulty hearing out of one ear, and to make matters worse she had plexiglass, a face mask, and she was speaking in a low tone of voice. I can see she was already frustrated. I told her politely I couldn't make out what she said and asked her to come again. She scuffed at me, grabbed the tray my bread was on, and flipped my bread off the tray towards me onto the counter. Her unnecessary reaction infuriated me, so I threw the change on the ground and told her to behave like a descent person. It is unnecessary to behave that way with someone because you are having a bad day. It's the beginning of the day and if one feels that incapable of performing a job, then ask for the day or find another job you can tolerate. I admit my reaction wasn't one of composure, but I have been a long time customer. I am reaching my 50s, and I do not believe having the bread I paid for flipped at me is okay because I couldn't hear what was said. It wasn't like I egged her on to behave like that. Sorry to say, but I clearly see this attitude younger people have and their posture with changing social behavior has grown out of control. Common courtesy and mutual respect still have a place in this community. Especially at a business when you expect patrons to return. Drop the defy logic and race to force people to see things from irrational perspectives to push self entitlement. I hope the owner of Panchita's Bakery reads this review and reason with the terms her long time customer asks. Please reiterate customer service oriented practices that have long been employed and work nourish a long time customer and business relationship. If young people like this young cashier cannot comply or comprehend the principles of making good business, how are they going to make your business prosper and continue to grow? This incident came from a poor way of explaining to a customer that her box was short changed. All I used was a five dollar bill at 7:50 in the morning. This cashier should have not got pissed off because I couldn't hear her through one side of my hearing, through the plexiglass, her mask, and her already frustrated attitude which resulted in her talking in the tone of voice she did. I hope one of three things happen to correct the problem. This cashier gets educated on business the proper acumen she is to have, self control, and acceptable mannerisms, or she is replaced with someone who can perform as a cashier should. I did attempt to speak with a manager, but I had to walk out to cool off and not contribute to the problem after being treated this way. After calming down, I called the number listed on the directory and asked for a manager in a polite and monotoned tone of voice. Unfortunately, the same cashier answered the call, heard my voice and told me she would not allow me to speak with a manager. I politely told her I would look into getting a manager another way and ended the call. I called the Bakery's Golden Hill site and spoke with another employee (sounded like a young male). I asked for his help in getting a manager to speak with me, he asked why and I explained. He sounded empathetic, took my name and phone number, and told me he would have a manager call me back. Still no call back. I hope I do reach a manager eventually. This is what led to this post and I hope the owner looks into adjusting the service end of her business. Came in here on a recommendation from a friend and got a lot of pastries. The apple empanada had a lot of apple chunks (I was told that before, they would slice it thin), but it was delicious and most likely, I think, better warmed up. The mango empanada was all right; there weren't any chunks, but more of a jelly consistency. The fan favorite was the apricot one with the right sweetness and consistency! Best of all, the empanadas were not soggy at all! The place is small, so I do not recommend bringing more than 1-2 friends to this place; it can get crowded in there. I love that it's self-served and I can pick out which and how much pastries I wanted. Then depending on how bad I am I will get either a gingerbread piggie, a corn meal sweet muffin, pumpkin or sweet potato empanada, pineapple pastry or a slice of day old wedding or birthday cake made from real buttercream frosting from the carousel fridge.
