I understand they recently had their soft opening and it seems like a lot of the focus has gone into the bar area, which is fine -- but customers are also coming for the FOOD and SERVICE. We were hoping for the same great food we remembered from before, and sadly that was not what we experienced. Between the 40-minute wait, incorrect orders, missing items, and disappointing food, the entire experience was frustrating. Unfortunately, after this experience, we will not be coming back. The service and food were both terrible and nowhere near what we expected.

We were celebrating my friend's birthday, and I had a cake delivered through Instacart ahead of our reservation. The restaurant was SO on top of their communication. They even messaged me personally to let me know the cake had been delivered and was there waiting for us. When we arrived, my friend had a personalized birthday menu with their name on it, which I thought was such a thoughtful touch. Between that and the communication about the cake, I was thinking, "Oh yeah, they are ON IT. Tonight is going to be amazing." Unfortunately, that level of service did not continue throughout dinner. Our waitress was nice, but we had to remind her about things multiple times. We waited quite a while for our bread and had to remind her about it. The bread ended up being comped because of the wait, which I appreciated, but later she also completely forgot my margarita. For an upscale steakhouse, the service just wasn't as attentive as I expected it to be. Now let's talk about that bread because PLEASE, please, please get the bread. It came out warm and fluffy, and the butter complemented it perfectly. I had seen pictures of it beforehand, and it absolutely lived up to them. Honestly, it was one of my favorite things we ate. I believe it was around $9, and while I personally think bread should be complimentary at a steakhouse at this price point, I would still order it again because it was THAT good. We skipped appetizers because nothing really jumped out at us and went straight into our steaks. My friend and I split the 20 oz Bone-In Ribeye, and my other friend ordered the 14 oz New York Strip. We asked for both steaks to be sliced, but only the ribeye came sliced. I was also surprised by the size of the 20 oz ribeye. I've ordered 20 oz bone-in steaks at other steakhouses, and this one looked noticeably smaller than what I was expecting. Between the two of us, I think we each got around three slices. For a 20 oz steak that we were sharing, it just didn't feel very substantial. When it came to the sides, though, WE CLEANED UP. We ordered the Mushroom Fricassée with wild mushrooms, garlic and thyme; Dirty Hash Browns with trout roe and crème fraîche; Mac & Cheese with fontina and herbed breadcrumbs; Grilled Asparagus with sauce vert, lemon and amaranth; and the Potato Purée with butter and chives. And this is what makes the entire experience so frustrating: the food was actually delicious! The flavors were there. The sides were good. The steak tasted good. We genuinely enjoyed the taste of what we were eating. But almost everything was COLD. And I don't mean, "Oh, I wish this was a little warmer." I mean our food was cold. We spent around $350 on dinner, and somehow our meal came to the table cold. When they brought our steak out, we were specifically warned, "Be careful, the plate is hot." I remembered the warning at first, but later I went to move the plate with my bare hands and realized...the damn plate wasn't even hot. A manager came over and asked how everything was, and we told her exactly that: the food tasted delicious, but it was cold. She asked if we wanted anything reheated. Reheated?! That response really threw me off. At an upscale steakhouse, after ordering steaks and five different sides, I don't want my dinner reheated. I want it to come out hot the first time. And that really sums up my experience at Born and Raised. I think it was so disappointing because I was SO excited about going. I want to be fair and say this was NOT bad food. The bread was fantastic. The sides had great flavor. The steaks tasted good. The personalized birthday menu was adorable. Their communication before our reservation was excellent, and the way they handled my friend's cake genuinely made me feel like they cared about making the birthday special. That's why I'm so conflicted. Everything leading up to dinner screamed top-tier experience, but once we actually sat down and started eating, everything became very lackluster. Having to repeatedly remind our waitress about things, having my margarita completely forgotten, one of the steaks not being sliced as requested, and then having an expensive spread arrive cold just did not match the level of restaurant Born and Raised presents itself to be. For a roughly $350 dinner at an upscale steakhouse, I don't think expecting attentive service and hot food is asking for too much. I really, REALLY wanted to love Born and Raised. Unfortunately, for me, it just did not live up to the hype.

I recently had the pleasure of trying authentic Himalayan food for the first time at Himalayan Grill, and I must say, it has quickly become my new favorite dinner spot. As someone who had only experienced the frozen Tikka Masala from Costco before, this culinary adventure was a game-changer for me. The portions at Himalayan Grill are generous, particularly for their Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken dishes. The flavors they infuse into these dishes are simply wonderful. Every bite is a burst of deliciousness that I couldn't get enough of. The cheese naan, in particular, was a delightful addition and was a perfect accompaniment to either dish. Though the prices may be slightly on the higher side, the quality and taste of the food make it well worth it. Plus, the portions are so generous that I often have enough leftovers for lunch the next day. They had a good variety of veg and non veg dishes and we couldn't wait to dig in. For starters, we had the veg cutlet, fritters and tikki. They had a side bar compromising of yogurt, chutneys and some raw onions. The appetizers tasted alright. For entree, I tried the palak paneer, dal makhni, paneer butter masala and some fresh garlic naan. I must say this was the worst Indian food that I have ever had. The gravy itself was overly sweet and it felt like I was eating sugar. The naan was raw on the inside. The dal was tasteless. I also tried the veg pulav and that tasted bland too. Overall, it felt like a waste of money and time. To add to this, we both caught a stomach bug after eating here. I really wanted to like this restaurant but wouldn't recommend going here. Given the experience we had, I was really disappointed.

Instead of helping resolve the issue, she rushed me to choose a replacement while I was trying to pull up the menu and figure out what I wanted. When I asked about the prices of the replacement options so I could choose something equivalent to what I had already paid, she became extremely condescending. She repeatedly made comments along the lines of "it's only one or two dollars" and "do you want that one dollar?" and talked about how the restaurant would be "losing money" if they gave me a slightly more expensive replacement. I was simply trying to find an equivalent replacement for an item they were unable to provide. She also complained that there had already been "a lot of back and forth" and that they had "given me time," even though I had only had a couple of minutes to look at the menu. Her tone throughout the call was impatient, mocking, and disrespectful, with no apology for the inconvenience caused by an item on their menu being unavailable. This was never about $1. It was about how a customer was spoken to while trying to resolve an issue that I did not cause. A simple apology and a respectful conversation would have resolved everything. Customers should not be demeaned or made to feel like an inconvenience for asking reasonable questions about an order they already paid for. Very poor customer service.

They only gave one serving of rice for the curries which seemed odd (or maybe it was supposed to be one container of rice for two curries). Each curry was $18 and marked as Medium spice. The dark meat tasted fantastic. It was hard for me to really taste the difference in the korma curry as it didn't taste of nuts or coconut. Both curries were incredibly savory BUT salty. You had to eat it with the rice (or naan which we will for sure get next time) to cut back the salt. Overall, a great to go meal to eat while watching Sat NFL this evening.
