Good ramen spot! Located in a small lot with limited parking but local streets nearby. The restaurant is a little small but it looks like they're currently doing some construction. The restaurant was clean and had a good atmosphere. We ordered two spicy miso ramen and fried oysters. Our ramen came out first and I got spicy level 4 and my husband got 3. It wasn't spicy in our opinions but it was delicious nonetheless. Came with two slices of chashu and plenty of noodles. Wouldn't say it was anything extraordinary but a good ramen overall. The fried oysters were amazing and came with a Donkatsu tasting sauce. Not worth $11 though. It was piping hot and came with 5 small pieces. Overall, decent ramen spot. Think for the area it's good but definitely better spots out there. Service was good as well.
This is a big milestone.. as this is my ramen review #100!! I'm officially an obsessed Ramen Sheriff! I should've had way more since I was in Japan for a month, but I was just too busy enjoying myself. Sorry not sorry =P Now that I'm back home instead of walking 20k miles a day in the streets of Tokyo, I'm back to journaling the ramen bowls here. I really liked the wheat noodles here, this was the star. Very chewy and al dente. The broth for the house ramen was very nice, flavorful light dashi, really enjoyed it. The noodles and soup are done well in Hinodeya. My taste in ramen has evolved to lighter broths, so I appreciate the flavorful but light dashi broth here rather than the typical heavy tonkatsu broths they do here around the bay. The toppings however could be better. The chasu was tougher than I'd like, and the soft boiled egg was overcooked on the bottom. They both lacked flavor and could have more umami as well. My fiance got the clam ramen and they were pretty generous with the clams, but he thought it was okay. Service was very good. I was a little weary since the QR code to order asked for tip in the beginning of your order, which was weird. But it was great that they pulled through. Food came out instantly, minutes of ordering, and they were very prompt with requests. Ambiance was loud since it's a small restaurant. Especially when there are families with little ones. Overall, good/fine place for a casual ramen eatery. Nothing to rave about but decent to satisfy your ramen cravings, especially for light broths or clams.
This place was recommended to us and it did not disappoint. We came at around 12:30pm on a Sunday and we were lucky to be seated right away. The whole place was packed with people. It's a small place, but they were able to position all the tables and chairs so that there's room to move around. Ordering was convenient. We were able to scan the menu at our table and paid quickly remotely. Our food came out on a timely manner. We were able to try the Clam ramen, Hinodeya ramen, and the Tonkatsu. They were all delicious and very much to our liking. Presentation is something i noticed they take pride in. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted promptly, the decorations on the front entrance is what lured us in. The tables all had a tiny lamp that you can turn on and off. All the servers were wearing coordinated attire with the restaurant logo on it. They were all attentive to our needs and constantly filled up our water and took empty dish away when the table started to feel tight/crowded. All Ramen we tried had the WOW bursting with flavors. I highly recommend this place.
Came here for lunch as we were in the area. This would be my 4th Hinodeya. I like how they like to be a small parking lot. The restaurant itself is decently sized with the same color scheme as the others. Around 12:10pm on a Sunday, easy to get a table. QR code to order and pay. Waiters bring out food. I had to ask twice for toddler utensil and also a bowl. HINODEYA "House" Ramen - I got this and shared with my toddler. Plenty of noodles and I loved the toppings. The noodles were cooked just right. SPICY MISO Ramen - My husband got this. He was pretty disappointed as the two pieces of cha Sui was super fatty. Chicken Karaage - Good flavor but the breading was thick. Umami Brussel Sprouts - Good flavor but the Brussels were undercooked. Two unisex bathrooms in the back - clean.
I fell in love with hinodeya when I first tried it out in San Jose. I love their restaurants. It's this cozy Japanese style restaurants. This location specifically has an outdoor patio as well so it's pretty spacious. You have two options to order, one via the QR code and/or with the servers. We ordered via the QR code and ordered the edamame sticks for our appetizer. I would say the edamame sticks need a little bit more salt but the consistency was perfect. I think the pot of hot teat they have is also pretty cute and their tea leaves were actually pretty good. I would say their ramen is more on the pricier side but it's definitely a tasty ramen. We ordered the tonkatsu and house ramen. And both ramen was really good. Their broth is probably one of the best broths I've ever had for ramen and their proteins are also made very well. The tonkutsu was cooked perfectly and the pork had great consistency. The servers would check on you multiple times which I appreciate and they definitely paid attention to their tables. They made sure everything was clean, everyone greeted you and over all just an amazing time and great food.
Came here on a Friday night. Always grateful for the servers and the hours they got at Hinodeya, I always crave soup late at night. They got a limited time item, Scallop Dashi Broth, it was soo umami and delicious. It came with scorched sashimi grade scallops as the protein. I added butter, corn and 3rd level spicy. I would definitely get it spicier next time if I get this again, but this was so so good, ultra umami, the onions kicked up the soup flavor and the crispy garlic is just the perfect toppings to the ramen. My boyfriend got the aburi cheese miso ramen. It was super duper rich and it tasted heavy, but that's totally up my boyfriend alley. He liked it but would be down to try something else next time as well.
We were looking at a place to eat late at night at 9pm. It was one of the few places that would be still open. It was quite a pleasant surprises: the place was still crowded, yet no wait. The ramen broths had its own styles. Very unique. A few were quite pricey, yet worth it. The scallop special was very good! The atmosphere was quite nice: a good mix of customers who had families, young people, couples, singles, etc. Parking was easy, just outside. Will come again!
First time visiting this ramen shop. Very nicely decorated. The servers was friendly and fast to serve our food once we placed the order online. The ramens are quite unique in flavor and presentation. They are served hot and the soup base is very delicious. The ramen was very enjoyable. Definitely recommend this store.
Food: - The ramen is always great here although I usually sub in chicken for the pork and sometimes the chicken is on the drier side but other than that, it's great! (9/10) - Aburi cheese spicy miso ramen however the cheese can be a little too thick and clump up, not sure if that's usual with cheese ramens but this specific dish doesn't fit my particular taste so (7/10) - Takoyaki was absolutely amazing, softer than other places I've had it at while still being crispy, only thing was the brown sauce is a little on the saltier, sour side as compared to just being sweet which is what I'm used to! (9/10) - Overall: (9/10) Service: - The servers are always lovely here - You order food through a QR code that you scan, pretty fast and simple - Menu is nice and readable online - (10/10) Ambiance: - Dark (not too dark, just right) and cozy - Lovely place to eat ramen especially on a rainy evening - Great place to have conversation over food as well - Intimate setting even though you can see the other guests eating as well - Generally not too many people here - (10/10)
Somehow landed here on a random Wednesday late afternoon/ early evening The restaurant has a good vibe and a good number of tables for groups as well as for solo diners at the bar sort of a thing. We were quickly seated and then had water at our table. Theway to order is so efficient you can scan a barcode and order by yourself.This is convenient in case there are big groups. The food arrived quickly. The yuzu ramen was tangy and spicy and the crispy bits that came along with it were delicious. The other vegan option was also good but missed a little tang or a punch. But all in all there were quite a few vegetarian friendly options and that made this place one of my go to next time I am looking for ramen.
Hinodeya is my second favorite ramen place. I've been this location probably 5 times. It's small, cozy. Join the waitlist on your way over. I like that they're open until 10pm on the weekdays. My go to is the spicy miso. I've tried the Hinodeya Ramen, Hamaguri, Spicy Miso Butter and the chicken ramen and I have no complaints. The noodles are thick and chewy, the broths are delicious. Chicken karaage hits. The shrimp tempura is good, but not with $11 for 4 pieces. Out of the rice bowls the Gyudon is my favorite, but the pork bowls are also good.
We've been here 5 times since they've opened and it's the best ramen in the area by far. We come anytime we want "good" ramen and it never disappoints. They started in Japan in 1885 and are still family owned, it's abnormally good with this high quality ramen normally only accessible in San Jose, San Mateo, or San Francisco. We've had pretty much everything on the menu, here are some standouts. Fried oysters: From Hiroshima Japan, probably fantastic raw. Fried in panko they become soft and mild bites of the ocean. Aburi Cheese Spicy Miso Ramen: very pleasant heat and the butane torched cheese comes in a gooey chunk that pairs well with the spicy broth. A bit heavier than normal ramen but a good reward if you had a hard day. Hinodeya Ramen: Their signature and we'll always get these for the kids to share. The broth is light shoyu-dashi base and it comes with a lot of veggies so it feels more balanced than a traditional tonkatsu. Chicken karaage: Always so well fried and we love the matcha salt on the side for dipping. Arrived way more on time than other places where it often comes after we are halfway done with the ramen.

The staff beat on the drum when a new round of guests come in - Love! Starting out with a pro tip: Their Yelp monitor for busy times to less busy times is very accurate. I am sure if you're reading this you'll have access to their waitlist through Yelp! If you've grown up here, as I have, it's odd to be sitting in the old KFC building. I am extremely thankful that Hinodeya is now here. Ordering: You're able to order with the wait staff or use the QR code to order. If you're with a group that needs to pay separately, feel free to use the QR code & each guest can pay accordingly (awesome and convenient)! The QR code is user friendly. Food: Gyoza, never misses. My daughter & I enjoy the Spicy Miso Ramen. We get it with an extra egg and the spicy garlic on the side. Do note that extra add ons (minus the spicy garlic) are extra $. Customize how you feel. There's a range of Tapas / Otsumami, Ramens, Rice Bowls, Side dishes. But please oh please, try the ramen! Allergies: Vegan options. There are different noodle options, for example gluten free option noodles though please note if you're dining celiac the ramen broth is not gluten free. As most ramen places, they do use soy sauce in their broth! Drink: Beer and Sake. Good range of selection too. I feel like they picked all the good things to showcase. They have soft drinks, kid friendly -- sprite, coke, ramune og & melon. A couple large group tables. Saturday night we waited about 10 min for our group of 7. Parking: Small lot shared with 711. They do have a few designated spots with signs strictly for their customers. Although if you need, park closer to the housing & take a walk. My experiences here have been great. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The gentleman working touches the table & asks how things are going often. They really care about their diners experience. Came in on a Sunday at 1PM and was seated promptly. The workers greet you enthusiastically either a drum which is a nice welcome. I got the limited edition creamy cold vegan ramen with level one spice and it was packed with plenty of vegetables. The soup base was creamy, but very light. I like the crunch and freshness of the vegetables in the dish. The sweetness from the inari (tofu) was a nice contrast to the umami filled broth. I'd say a solid 4 ramen since I really enjoy vegetarian ramens. The sampler was a fun little app. I liked the wasabi tako, it was salty and had the perfect flavor of wasabi. I especially enjoyed the wakame salad with generous amounts of sesame seeds, that was really delicious. I prefer my bamboo shoots more plain and it was a touch too over seasoned for me. The service was very attentive and kind. They were very friendly to all of the customers coming in and leaving. They were meticulous about cleaning as well, there weren't many customers around and the workers were cleaning the door and the ramen bar. Ambiance was really nice inside. Piano instrumentals play in the background and the warm lighting from the lamps is a nice touch. Definitely would be a cute dinner date spot. Hinodeya is local to me and I would definitely come back to try their other limited summer ramens. read more
Been here twice so far, for lunch. great atmosphere and easy ordering via QR code. they have a good selection of vegan/vegetarian food. I've tried the creamy ramen and yuzu, definitely the yuzu is unique and one of my favorites. their sides are pretty good too (veggie tempura, shishito, bamboo shoot). the only thing I didn't like was the inari (sweet tofu slices) in the ramen - I even ordered without it the second time but it still showed up in my bowl :) note: don't park in the 7eleven lot, hinodeya has it's own reserved parking read more

A ramen craving on a weeknight led us to Hinodeya Ramen. Having been to their Japantown location, I was happy to see one on the other side of the bridge. The restaurant is located in a separate structure in a strip mall and has a cool ramen shop vibe to it. The ordering and payment is through a QR code (COVID time remnant) where it asks you for the tip even before you've placed the order. This may have been acceptable during COVID, but not sure why it still persists when they have wait staff. The QR code based ordering felt impersonal. We got the spicy miso ramen - demon level and the creamy vegan ramen - demon level. They do charge extra based on the spice level which I found interesting. For the extra $1 charge for demon level spice in the creamy vegan ramen, I had 3 red chillies floating on top of my ramen bowl. This, felt like a rip off .. at least add the spice to the broth instead of a garnish! They do have additional toppings that you can add, but for the quantity of toppings that you get, their value for $ is questionable. The ramen broth was delicious and the portions are decent. If I am on the other side of the bridge and craving ramen, maybe I'll stop by again. read more

after constantly driving by, not exactly knowing if this location was open or closed, I finally noticed the "Open" sign and today was finally the day! I'm a huge fan of ramen so the fact that one opened right here in Newark, I was really excited to try it out and support a local business as well. My friend and I ended up getting some spicy edamame to start off that was surprisingly good and something new done to an already great dish. I ordered the Hinodeya Ramen (House Ramen) with mild sauce and it was just delicious! One of the best ramens I've had in a long time. Everyone here was super friendly and quick to serve us. The overall vibe of this location with their playlist in the background was very relaxing. If I would've waited another 5-10 mins after I finished my meal, I might've fallen asleep right there in my seat lol 5 stars all around and I can't wait to be back soon! read more

Spent dinner here with the whole family to celebrate my niece's 14th birthday. I ordered the clam ramen and shrimp tempura. The clams were delicious and so many of them which I appreciate. They were very clean and the broth was delicate and delicious. I loved their shrimp tempura with the matcha salt. Service was helpful and friendly. Make sure you call for a reservation! Glad to see a new ramen spot open up in Newark! Located next to 7-eleven in an inconspicuous location is Hinodeya. There are spots in the parking lot dedicated to Hinodeya customers and overall parking is relatively easy. Entering the cozy restaurant we were greeted by a nice and toasty main dining room with Japanese decor. The menu has a number of ramen options to choose from including a clear broth, creamy broth, various proteins, and even two vegan options! I ordered the Hinodeya ramen, shishito peppers, and takoyaki. The appetizers were stellar and I'd go back here again for them! My Hinodeya ramen had a nice light broth and good toppings my only deduction of a star is that the noodles didn't grasp the flavor of the broth. Ambiance and service were great I'd definitely come back and this is a nice addition to Newark! read more

So excited to see a new ramen place 5 minutes from me! Decided to try Hinodeya tonight and really liked the vibe of the restaurant! The restaurant is very pleasing to the eye and everyone working here is so friendly. We were greeted and seated right away. We ordered a handful of items: Hinodeya house ramen, spicy miso butter ramen, karaage, and the appetizer trio (tako wasabi, seaweed salad, & spicy bamboo shoots). We loved the appetizer trio - I'm a sucker for tako wasabi and it was so refreshing. They added chopped green onion on top, which gave it a good crunch. The spicy bamboo shoots and seaweed salad were also really delicious. The chicken karaage was juicy! I do wish that they used a karaage sauce of sorts rather than the matcha salt. I felt like the matcha salt was good, but almost a bit too salty. As for the ramen, we enjoyed it! The house ramen has a good flavor and I enjoyed the handful of spinach it came with. My boyfriend got the spicy miso butter ramen and really liked it - he enjoyed the pork as well. We both ordered our ramen at high spice levels, 3 & 4. I really didn't think our ramen was spicy at all. I'm not sure if maybe they forgot to add the spice, but we doctored it up a bit with togarashi. I like that they offer an assortment of sake, a plum wine, and even a cocktail! I got the peach flavored cocktail and it was really refreshing! Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here. When we first came in (around 7 PM on Thursday), the place was pretty quiet. By the time we left, it was packed! We'll definitely be back to try more ramen and we'll probably up the spice a bit. read more

Make sure to get on the guest list or come right when they open at 5pm to avoid waiting for a long time. The restaurant is very small but it gave me a cozy feeling lol. As soon as we entered, we were greeted right away. Everyone were so welcoming and the servers were very nice and attentive. I ordered the Hinodeya ramen and my husband got the spicy corn miso ramen and we shared the fried oysters. Their broth is very tasty and I also loved the fried oysters. We got here right before they opened. I can't believed this was KFC and cleaned up nicely. The ambiance is somewhat quaint with Japanese decor. We ordered Spicy Miso Ramen, Aburi Cheese Spicy Miso Ramen, Chicken Karaage, and Shrimp tempura for our kid. Food came out fairly quick. The broth was savory and not too salty. However, it could be a little hotter (temperature wise). The noodles were cooked well. I ordered extra pork and got me filled. The chicken karaage were crunchy and moist. The shrimp tempura were small but very good. Overall, 4.5 stars but rounded it up to 5 due to good and attentive service. We'll definitely come back! read more

The Hamaguri Ramen was not what I expected, the ramen came with this side of spice if you were to get spice level 1. I added too much of the spice, overpowering the clam broth. There were a decent amount of clams, probably around 15-25 pieces. The pieces are very small. It comes with a bowl to put all the empty shells in, so you can enjoy the noodles. The noodles weren't what I was expecting from the usual ramen places I've been to. Overall, it was an ok ramen, wouldn't get it again for $20. (3/5) The chicken karaage came with matcha tea salt, which was very interesting. Usually they come with some mayo sauce for the condiment. I'm a huge fan of matcha tea salt, so this was an interesting change of pace. The chicken karaage was seasoned well and batter was tasty and fluffy. (4/5) The restaurant had a decent amount of designated parking for the restaurant only. The ambiance has a pretty modern Japanese interior touch to the restaurant. read more

On vaca n came here after browsing yelp. Loved it!! The ramen was al dente with the right amount of chew. We ordered less sodium as usual with any ramen elsewhere, n this was delicious !!! Spicy Miso Butter Corn ramen was delicious. Enjoyed their Shishito peppers as well. This is a small ramen shop in the East Bay. Neighborhood isn't the best at night but there is parking steps away from the front door. Simple and clean interior. Very friendly wait staff. read more
