Came here for lunch on the 4th of July. Pretty easy to get seating, though the place is tiny. We ordered two different ramen bowls (Hamaguri and the UMAMI tonkatsu) - both were way too salty for our taste and a bit overpriced for the amount of food we got. Not planning to return.

We chose the house ramen and beef suyaki ramen, gyoza and hot sake. The noodles were homemade - you could tell. They were delicious!! Broth was fish based but add a bit of spice and it was good. Gyoza was slightly charred giving it a smoky taste. Overall the food was good but servers are a bit short with customers so beware

Stopped by Hinodeya Ramen and was seated almost immediately, which was a great start. I ordered the Sukiyaki Beef Ramen and the portion size was generous. The noodles were thick with the perfect chewy texture, and the beef broth was rich and flavorful with a solid serving of beef throughout the bowl. One small surprise was the egg -- based on the photos I expected a traditional boiled ramen egg, but it came poached directly in the broth instead. Had I known beforehand, I probably would've swapped it out. I also asked if the ramen could be made extra spicy and was told yes, but when it arrived it really wasn't spicy at all. Thankfully there was powdered spice at the table, which helped bring the heat level up. Service overall was pleasant, and the staff were friendly throughout the visit. The restaurant itself was clean, comfortable, and had plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating. Overall, a solid ramen spot with flavorful broth and well-cooked noodles -- I'd definitely come back

Yuzu Zen ramen ($20) - pretty good but not a fan of the inari

Ive eaten my fair share of Japanese ramen and know my ramen pretty well. Yelp and Google both had Hinodeya higher rated than Ippudo (I wasn't in the mood to battle whatever mob scene might be happening at Mensho), and this place was literally right across the street from my hotel, so I made a mad dash for this place as it was friggin' cold in SF on a late Spring day. If you try to come here around 6-7pm, there is a long line waiting to get seated, but it moves fast. I kept peeking out of my hotel window and by 7:30pm, line was almost non existent, so that's when I went down to get dinner. When I arrived, I was immediately shown a seat inside. You can sit outside too as lots of tables right on the street but it was way too cold for me. Service was quick and I ordered a Yuzu Zen (vegan) ramen. I wanted to try something different than their signature ramen. This ramen was cooked in the traditional Japanese Buddhist temple way, which was a bonus for me. I am a practicing Buddhist and have meditated at various different temple organizations and I enjoy temple cooking as its usually lighter but still very soul nourishing. The broth is lighter and its a vegan dashi broth and comes with zest of yuzu (its like a Japanese lemon), bamboo shoots, crispy kale and sweet fried tofu. I enjoyed this bowl of noodles with soup and the broth was hot, so it warmed me up. I was not really a fan of the inari (sweet fried tofu) as it was just too sweet for me. Service was a little slow towards the end as I was itching to pay and go for an evening stroll, but otherwise, a good experience. I'd come back again when nearby.

The ramen was 10/10. The dumplings were 10/10 and the shrimp tempura was 7/10 only because the batter was very thick as if it had been overfried. The ambiance was great for a Thursday night. The service was also good they just took a while to serve us. Then the wait staff forgot we ordered shrimp tempura. We had to ask for it

even if you're not vegan please try the vegan creamy ramen i promise it will not disappoint i will alwayysss support and love hinodeya!! my favorite restaurant right now i'm vegetarian and i usually have a hard time finding good ramen. not many places carry veggie broth and when they do, it's often super watery and bland. hinodeya is not at all like this. their broth is the most flavorful and delicious i've ever had. i always get the creamy vegan ramen and i like to add extra inari tofu skin. the crunchy kale, soft spinach, and squash pairs so well with the broth and noodles. i tried the vegan green gyoza today and it was also delicious! the filling with tofu is so good and the sesame dipping sauce is addicting. my boyfriend is not vegan but he orders all the vegan options at hinodeya because they really know how to make vegan food flavorful. you won't miss the meat! i've tried hinodeya at the berkeley, sf japantown, and now the union square location. my only suggestion would be to add more of the squash because it is soooo delicious! when i went to the japantown location they gave me like 4 pieces and the berkeley didn't include any squash and today the union square had one. definitely give this ramen place a try!! don't be scared of trying vegan food out it's absolutely delicious and so flavorful here.

Hinodeya is always consistently delicious, no matter which location. Love that their ramen is tasty but also not too heavy. Also appreciate that they have very good vegan options that rival some restaurants' regular ramen. This location near Union Square is very convenient because it's open very late. The drawback is that it can be very crowded, which is why this time we had to sit outside. But it wasn't too bad since there are heat lamps. Service can be a bit slow, especially getting the check, but understandable due to the popularity. Excellent karaage too, somehow very crispy but not oily, heavy, or too thick at all. Last thing, when meeting friends at Hinodeya in the city, be sure to specify and go to exactly the right one!

Spending some time in San Francisco and had dinner here one night. The place is really tiny and popular. However, we got lucky and got seated inside right away. They have seats outside but wouldn't want that as it looks like it was about to rain. And it did rain as we were eating! Everything we ordered is very savory! Some richer than others. We got the Spicy Miso Butter Corn Ramen, Hinodeya Ramen (House Ramen), Sukiyaki Beef Ramen, and Crispy Chicken Karaage. They're all good, but my favorite is the Hinodeya house ramen. I also enjoyed their hot matcha green tea. The waiter got our orders right away and food came out soon after. The waiters are nice and friendly. Such a nice, tasty, comforting hot ramen dinner on a cold night in San Francisco.

Made a pitstop at Hinodeya Ramen on a random Sunday around 3pm, and we were seated immediately. This spot is known to get super crowded with a wait time. I've walked by on a Friday night, and hordes of people are always standing outside waiting. I ordered the Hinodeya House Ramen, and it was pretty good! The broth had good flavor, and wasn't overly salty. Noodles were perfectly chewy. I'd stop in again to try something else on their menu. Service was quick! Casual ambiance.

Stumbled upon this place as I was walking in the neighborhood and decided to stop by for lunch. I was seated right away and was given water and a menu within the minute. I ordered the spicy edamame and the yu-Lin-chi. The edamame definitely has a kick to them and the chicken was great. Nicely coated.

Last Wednesday April 08,2026 My Friends And I Went Downtown San Francisco To Explore As We Decided To Have A Late Lunch At Hinodeya Ramen By Union Square And We Were So Lucky That When We Walk Inside There Was A Spot for Us. Cause Usually Its Hard To Get A Sit Specially Alot Of Patron's Come To Dine On The Said Restaurant. So when we were Escorted By The Staff To Sit And Gave Us The Menu And Decided To Order The Hinodeya House Ramen, The Gyoza Dumplings And Appetizer was The Endamame Sticks Wraped And Fried. As Always The Food Serving Was So Great And Savory The Staff Are Friendly And Courteus And The Restaurant Ambiance Is Clean And Prestine As It's My First Time to Dine Inside As This Is My Second To visit the said restaurant And I Highly Recommend it. Have Attached Some Photos So Please Check it Out.

Good ramen but in a really tight space. The tables are placed very tightly together and there's pretty loud music on the background. The positive is we only waited 10 minutes on a Friday night because there's so many tables that turn quickly. The negative is it's a little chaotic. We ordered the sukiyaki beef ramen, spicy miso ramen, and spicy edamame. The regular soup is really delicious but the spicy miso is not as satisfying.

    Hien L.

We came here on a Sunday afternoon, and it was pretty busy and there was a short line--moved quickly tho. I got the house ramen, and I thought it was on the salty side, but plenty of toppings. For a price of $17, I'd say it's pretty affordable in this economy. We sat outside so can't say much about the ambiance, but inside did seem crowded.

Once we got closer to the front, the host came by to hand us menus so we knew what to order as soon as we were seated. The restaurant is pretty small so the dining experience feels a little hectic. If you're looking for a calm, relaxing place to eat, I wouldn't say this is the place. It's sort of an "in and out" situation. I ordered the spicy G.K.O. So so delicious. I was in SF one afternoon and decided to kill an hour by waiting in their line. I showed up at 3.10 PM and there was no line, I stood anyway and later the line built up behind me. Place is not the safest, I saw some folks ret trying to open the parked cars on that street hoping to find one that was unlocked . Not all folks who made it before their 4 PM opening managed to get a table in the first round. The place only seats around 20 people or so and they have a mandatory requirement that each person has to order a bowl of ramen. We got the following *enoki chips: 3/5: salty, limp, greasy to the point of floating in a pool of oil. *vegan tantanmen-2.5/5- disappointed by this one. Had better vegan ramen at several other establishments. The version here has two dominant flavors- extremely smoky and bitter. The kale didn't help as well. The enoki chashu was interesting though, had the texture of meat. *classic toripaitan-4.5/5- this was good and I can see why it got the awards. Had a rich and deep taste of chicken. All the elements helped elevate the bowl. *spicy lamb miso cumin-4/5- the flavors of cumin and lamb just shone through here. If you enjoy the flavor of lamb get this. The fried eggplant was epic in this dish. Overall, not worth the wait, the vegan ramen can be avoided unless you are a vegan. Get the classic toripaitan as that was the best.

The ambiance is extremely loud in there and the tables are very close together. So if you're looking for a quiet, less crammed space, this isn't it. The actual restaurant looks very nice, but not sure why the bar seats face a storage area with clear windows. As for the food, the calamari was delicious, they give you whole pieces of little squid. The ramen broth is very hearty and bold. When I was halfway through, it became a little too much. I do wish you're able to pick the thickness of noodles. I didn't like the thin noodles with the ramen. It actually reminded me of instant ramen. But to each their own with noodle thickness. I just wish there were options. I almost wish there was something else in the ramen to balance out the flavor besides more bold flavors from the pork and egg. It does the job but wasn't a huge wow factor. As for the service, they are pretty attentive. I didn't like how one of the servers kept hovering around the entire time grabbing anything they could off the table. The second we took off the wrappers of the chopsticks, they grabbed it. Usually I like the table cleared out to make space but it was the constant hovering that was awkward.

The rich, creamy broth delivers a perfectly balanced umami depth, harmoniously combined with subtle heat and aromatic spices that create an indulgent yet refined dining experience. Both my partner and I were thoroughly impressed by its complexity and comforting warmth, and we have continued to crave it long after the winter season. I've been to plenty of Japanese/Ramen spots and I've been running into the issue where I say I have a soy allegry and there is an assumption that I have a gluten issue (I do not have a gluten issue). I noticed yelp said they have soy-free options and thus called on Friday thinking it might be a bad idea as they're usually busy.. It was defintely hard for the person to hear a bit when they picked up. The staff did relay something about gluten free noodles.. Anyways, they said they could swap out any of the soy soups for salt (but soy can encompass a lot of things so I still wasn't feeling super confident but we're going to give it a go). We go and I asked which 4 of the soups I was eyeballing don't have soy - the staff said they can accomodate and replace any of the soy soups with a salt broth. After we ordered, the staff came back and checked in to make sure that my partner also didn't have an allergy. Kobe Skewer - 7/10, it was good but nothing extraordinary. It'll hit the spot if you like meat skewers Yuzu Tori Skewer - 7/10, same as the kobe skewer, but the yuzu on top was delicious Niku Ramen - 8/10, good portion & very very flavorful. I'm glad that they gave a lot of meat in this. I shared this & they provided an extra bowl without me asking :) It's also not super spicy. Hokkaido Milk Pudding - 8/10, the pudding itself was so good but the sauce was a little too sweet for me. However, my partner has a sweet tooth and loved it :) Will totally come again, everything was so yummy and so glad to have tried it!

Great Ramen and mochi ice cream! Service was fast and fun…read moreand food came fast. Kids loved it too. Ambiance seemed authentic and they do a cool welcome as guest arrive!

We came to Hinodeya Downtown location for dinner on a weekday for dinner and was pleasantly…read moresurprised by all the varieties of meal sets you can get here. Food 4/5: we ordered the pork katsu rice bento with mini creamy ramen and the Yu Ling chi chicken bento with the spicy miso mini ramen. Everything tasted fresh and hot. We particularly liked the pork katsu, it was perfectly crispy, juicy and well seasoned with the katsu sauce. The ramen didn't have much topping (just scallion and Naruto) but the soup and noodles texture were great. I was looking forward to the Yu Lin chi chicken but was not a big fan of the sauce flavor, it was salty and slightly one note. Rice was well cooked in the bento but I could do without the edamame, they weren't cooked long enough so it was hard to get out of the shell and bland. Service 3/5: we were seated pretty immediately but had to wait quite awhile before anyone served us, it might be because we were more towards the corner and the restaurant was busy. We had to get up to find a server to help us with checking out because no one ever came to check up on us. Ambiance 4/5: nice space, slightly cramped, but generally nice with the exposed brick walls and high ceiling. There's also outdoor seating available here.
