The food was great! Pretty expensive so be careful what you order. Had to remind the waiters several time for our drinks and they just kept forgetting. There's so much going on in there I don't blame them. Even water was hard to get. The environment is loud but in a family comfort way which makes the experience nostalgic. I love chaos around the table.
Had a great time enjoying dim sum. They gave a huge menu with lots of options. There's a line outside so recommend to go earlier to get your seat. Service is very fast and quick. The restaurant is big enough to host wedding banquets. Lots of lighting and huge screens. Felt very modern Chinese restaurants
My second time here for lunch. There's no wait on a weekday last time. 3 of us came here on Saturday around noon, and had to wait for about 20 minutes for a table, which wasn't bad at all. Even though their parking lot had a lot of cars, it's so big that there're still plenty of spaces. Their inside was huge as well. Because of the high ceiling, it didn't feel too crowded, even though it was packed. They had a lot of servers, too, though getting the attention of one took a while. Our server highly recommended their sea bass 2 ways (congee and chow fun) on their daily special menu. We would have ordered that if they still had fish at ~2lb, but they only had fish at ~3lb, which would be too big for us, as we would like to order some dim sum as well. So, we just ordered from their dim sum menu. The 2 different house teas we ordered came out pretty quickly, but it took a while for the food to come. The Sauteed Turnip Cake in XO Sauce was the dish I liked the most. It could still use more XO sauce, though. Pork & Crab Roe Siu Mai was gigantic; taste was normal. I wished they had chili sauce at the table. We're too busy catching up and didn't bother to flag down someone to get some. The Fried Bean Curd Skin Roll w/ Shrimp was not bad, just a bit oily. The Fried Chinese Donut Wrapped in Rice Noodle w/ Dried Shrimp was on point; it came with a peanut sauce on the side. The Chicken Feet w/ Black Bean Sauce were well cooked and off the bones. The Salted Egg Yolk Lava Black Bun wasn't too sweet; the inside was more runny than we expected. We're already stuffed after having 6 dim sum dishes. Overall, dim sum was solid, but on the more expensive side. While their service was typical for a Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area, they did apply a 16% service charge to the bill automatically, which was stated on their menu.
Had a wonderful experience dining here for a weekend wedding! HL is part of an Asian plaza and has lots of parking. It's a grand space as expected for a Chinese restaurant. The service staff were fast and efficient in cleaning up finished plates and placing the apps and entrees of the set menu. The bartenders were great and friendly with the drink service. The venue has a dessert container with notable brands like Haagen-Dazs and melona bars. The whole restaurant was grand that can occupy a stage, projectors, and lots of fun lights. The food was a great set menu primary of seafood dishes like abalone, lobster noodles, seafood salad, and so much more. Great experience!
Not your traditional Hong Kong style dim sum place. The Resturant tries to emphasize higher quality dishes and adds in additional elements to "dress it up". It's fine if you're in to that but I was hoping for a back to basics place. Service was great; Resturant was clean; and food was good. Was pricey for a dim sum regular spot but is good for a one off experience.
Came here with 11 people and bill came out to $355 with tip which is decent in this day and age. We ordered a lot of different dishes but they said they ran out of Chow fun so had to replace it with a different noodle dish but then ended up not brining it till we were done eating everything else. Some notes - The steamed dumpling skins tended to stick to each other and break while picking them up. The spare ribs were tender but a little bland. Needed black beans The shui mai are good but a little too fluffy which makes me think they have a lot of fat in them. The steamed rice rolls were nice. The gai lan was a bit fibrous and tough. The stir fried snow pea shoots with bean curd skin was a little bland. The durian puffs were good!
They have some really good dishes like their fried rice and their fish-based soups (seafood is great here). My favorite thing is still when you request a fresh fish and it gets prepared multiple ways however you need a large party. The kicker is I've been here 3 times across a couple years now: 1st time was phenomenal, 2nd time we ordered what the waiter recommended and it was both expensive and terrible tasting. This recent time we had 2 out 3 good dishes, the 3rd one did not match the photo at all:
We usually come here with a big group and get a room reservation, then order the set menu. The restaurant is always bustling on weekends, so without a reservation, would definitely expect a wait time. The dim sum carts have large variety and are fresh and fast, but the set menu helps alleviate the chaos and the decision of having to pick what to get haha. The food gets delivered fast and is fresh. The set menu has a large variety of different foods, from meat like duck and sweet / sour chicken, to veggies like mushroom and snap peas, to seafood like fish and lobster and scallops, as well as soup and fried rice. The food is served in waves, so there's always a new dish on the table every 5-10 minutes. The portions are massive! We always have plenty of leftovers to last us the rest of the weekend. Everything is tasty and seasoned well. My personal favs are the fried pumpkin, lobster noodles, and scallops, although all dishes were hits. Will definitely be back for the next group gathering!
* Visited on a Sunday with a party of 2- the wait was about 20 minutes Surprisingly, this was my first visit to HL Peninsula and I loved it. The portions are great and everything was tasty & delicious. The staff were quick to help us out and get our order in. I appreciate the fact that there was PLENTY of seating, and that the restaurant is quite spacious. OKAY THE FOOD: * Dim sum STAPLES - You can't go to dim sum and NOT GET SIU MAI. I wish I ordered more but we had ordered a good amount of other items to try. The siu mai was the perfect size too, not overly large or small. * Chicken feet with black bean sauce- 20/10. Loved it and loved the fact that it wasn't smothered in the sauce. * Turnip cake - I absolutely love a good fried turnip cake. It was seared great and tasted amazing. If a dim sum restaurant can't make a good turnip cake... you gotta go somewhere else. * XO Rolls - it was very tasty and cooked well! It was seasoned amazing and had the perfect sear to some rolls while maintaining its flavor.
Cane here with a party of 3 for Father's Day, got quickly seated in a side room unfortunately rather than the main area where we could browse carts. We ordered our usual: shrimp rolls, shrimp dumplings, sui mai, salted fish and chicken fried rice, chicken feet. Unfortunately literally every dish came before the sui mai and shrimp dumplings (seriously? its the most popular dish). I'll start off with the good dishes because honestly there were so little, the two best dishes were the siu mai and chicken feet. The siu mai was hearty, flavors were good, and it was large. The chicken feet was cooked perfectly, texture was consistent throughout and the flavors were subtle and well seasoned. Now the fried rice was 25$, I really wanted this to be good. My honest description of it is , the rice was well cooked, shards were fluffy and seasoned nicely yet that was it. The salted fish was rarely seen, youd only notice every 3 spoonfuls and the chicken was passable. Shrimp rice rolls and shrimp dumplings are my stable go tos, I've been eating these dishes since I was small. These two were a complete disappointment, the batter were both chewy and honestly felt TOO thick. Then it seemed like there was a batter of some sort on both shrimp fillings? This cause the shrimp to have bites that were EXTREMELY chewy, like why are rice rolls chewy??? Final bill was 150$ for mid food that came out late and poorly time. Would NOT come here again.
Came here with two friends for dim sum on Saturday late morning to try out a new (to us) place. We made a reservation online to make things a little less painful since Saturday dim sum brunch time can get intense with crowds. When we arrived, I checked us in and we were seated right away. The space was gorgeous - spacious, bright, elegant, high ceilings, ginormous screens. They served us tea right away and left a menu on the table for us to fill out and order from. Since I was the lone Asian person at the table, I took the liberty of filling out our order. I placed the completed form at the edge of the table for the wait staff to pick up, after about 10 minutes of no one stopping by, I had to do the arm waving thing to flag someone down. I typically expect minimal to no customer service when going out for dim sum - it's just culturally expected. The food eventually slowly started to come out, a dish and basket at a time, but we had no sauces, so I had to get again flat someone down for some. Once we were settled with sauces, we were good. So. Try good, as a matter of fact. Each dish & basket was fresh, delicious, & left me excited for the next bite. I ordered the standard dim sum dishes, plus some. The steamed bbq pork bun was beautifully crafted & fluffy, moist, & delicious. The group favorite was the salted egg yolk lava bun - painted on top with a stroke of gold, when I broke open the bun, it yielded a delicious golden & sweet yolk that left everyone at the table with surprising delight. The food quality definitely made up for the poor service, but someday, I dream that there will be a dim sum restaurant experience that serves up both.
Personally, I've never craved dim sum but this meal changed that for me! The restaurant is definitely a more upscale dim sum spot. It's really large, bright, and very clean. The service is also pretty fast. However, because the restaurant is so large and is often packed especially on weekends, you'll probably have to ask your server more than once for something. Overall though, this is my family's new preferred spot for dim sum Dishes: - Pork belly with caviar: was super tender and juicy, basically melt in your mouth texture. However I was hoping the skin would be crispy like typical roast pork so I missed that. -Siu Mai: super plump, juicy, and flavorful! Typically I get bored of siu mai but this one was so good! - Glutinous rice dumpling: one's I've had in the past have been dense but this one was nice and light and the filling too salty - soy sauce noodles: this is my favorite childhood dim sum side but I felt this one was more wet, rather than the dry noodles I'm used to and prefer. I would still get it though since it's one of my favorite dishes. - shrimp noodle roll: overall it was okay. I will say tha the shrimps were HUGEEE which to most people would be great but personally it was a bit too much for me.
First time to HL Peninsula on Sunday night- my husband and I were surprised by the great service, generous portions. Both our dishes were pretty tasty, not salty. We also got a warm red bean dessert at the end. Nice ambiance- I felt like I was in Asia.

I tried the steamed crab with noodles. Cooked fresh, but I think it was over cooked as the meat didn't have much flavor and was a bit more mushy than I'm used to. The noodles underneath were tasty. I would probably order the sea bass instead if I wanted seafood with a buttery and flaky texture. read more

Just went here for my grandma's birthday today and I am very disappointed to say the least. We came here expecting wonderful food and a great time as we've had a few months back. We received food that were dry, inedible, and contained hair in it. The portuguese egg tart was so deformed that it was incredibly disappointing. Even my grandma who is usually understanding and likes all food was very disappointed by this experience. Attached are some of the pictures of the food, and the deformed portuguese egg tart. Will not be coming back, and very disappointed. For the shrimp rice roll, they sent a replacement after we found the hair. The replacement was okay, but the food in general was all cold and unpleasant to eat. After leaving the restaurant, we all had stomachaches and had to use the restroom countless times. read more

The venue is beautiful and I imagine weddings being here. The tables were a little cramped and made it uncomfortable to turn because you immediately see the next table behind you or next to you. Not sure if they were trying to fit more people into the morning dim sum hours. The food were mediocre for the price. I've had better other places but it is a great place for big parties. We got the basics shrimp dumplings, shumai, Rice noodle, and a couple of things that look unfamiliar on the menu. I didn't like how the menu didn't have pictures so we couldn't imagine what the food will look like. And I really miss the old dim sum way of having a car pushing around and asking you what you want. Because now you have to order everything in advance... I saw that they also have private rooms for you to host different things because they were different sizes. I would give it another try if I was coming here for a wedding or a special event. But not for dim sum. read more

Isn't it illegal since July to automatically charge service fee, Starting July 1, 2024, California Senate Bill 478 (SB 478) will prohibit businesses from adding automatic service charges to consumer bills. So why are they getting away with this and no one has filed a complaint. The food and service has gotten worse. read more

I recently attended a wedding celebration here and can comment that the banquet Chinese menu here is quite good! Having been to quite a few in Norther and Southern CA, the quality of the dishes served is quite high. Service was prompt but I would recommend the dishes we had for the flavor and presentation. I hope to return to try their normal dining experience. read more

Very busy and packed on a Sunday night Perhaps is a new chain restaurant in town Nothing too impressive, food is standard to what other chains offer, not much of services. Two dishes stood out out of the 10 course meals (the sea bass and the Ubi Bao which was a complimentary dessert, Hostess was a bit disorganized Getting us seated our order was incorrect. We ordered shrimp dumplings, deep fried shrimp ball, bbq pork bao, short ribs with teriyaki sauce ( to oily missing the teriyaki sauce flavor to much veggies few ribs) and golden egg fried rice (too pricey $20. Per portion, nothing special) We are (with my wife) agree that we had better food in other Chinese restaurants Service really bad server show up only to take our order and we never saw her again, we like to order something else and no one assisted us, even when they pass around , I don't know if they don't pay attention o they don't care (maybe because we are not Asian, and the only no Asian people in the restaurant) I call twice to get the bill and no one assisted is, I have to go to someone on the cashier station to pay, also different station to get a togo box Decor look very Asian, big place two big big screen projecting restaurant advertisements, Also they offer a private room Unfortunately was a bad experience I do not coming back. read more

I have done review with HL peninsula in a south city area and this time I am trying the Milpitas location. Over all it was good. It would have rated 4 stars but some of the CON haul my last starts. So I rated 4 stares. CONs: 1) Price is not competitive 2) the beef chow fan: The dish brought out at medium warm. ( this order is suppose to be make to order). By the time it reach our table, it was lube warm. Not good. Also, the chow fan look like a re heat order. Anyone who is a foodie or have family own restaurants know that chow fan should not be dark and sticky/ thick unless is not readily made. Note: have ask to re make, and all they do is re heat. Remember, re heat and re make mean two different things. Very dissatisfied. Hope rest of you have great experience there. Go foodie. read more

I went here for lunch because my mom was told they have the best dim sum. They have quite an extensive menu and you mark your choices on a menu and dishes come out as they're ready. I want to mention that for 3 people it was $50/person for lunch which I think is a bit much for dim sum. The xlb are a skip, not much soup and thick skinned. The chicken feet were tasty and you get a large portion. I like that they cut them in half to make the dish more shareable and manageable. The duck is one dish everyone at the table can agree was the tastiest. The har gow are way too big here as they have an entire shrimp inside. The skin is again way too thick. Fried tofu with meat is a skip as it was soggy and greasy. Chow fun was tasty, I would get this again. You get a large portion of noodle and meat. Rice rolls were good and I liked the pork better than the shrimp variety. The lava buns are a skip, they're mostly air inside with very little filling. The fried oysters were kind of gross with shards of shell (maybe because they insist on serving them inside a cold oyster shell). Ambience is interesting, you'll feel like you're in Vegas or something with the giant TV screens hurling their wedding package ads at you. Overall it was a lackluster experience and took forever to get the check. Food is just ok , which makes it not worthwhile given prices. Also they don't have pricing on all the items on the menu which I don't like. They charge a service fee here so remember to not add a tip. read more
The math will not equate to 5 stars but let me clarify a few things. First, if you want to be seated in the main dining area, get here before 10:45AM (on the weekends) otherwise you will a) wait or b) get seated in their sub-dining room. Have some compassion for staff. We were seated in the sub-dining area near the entrance. There was one person handling that room (not including any other areas or tables he covers that we are oblivious from so my parents and I were patient. Did not catch his name but he tried to be fast and welcoming. He was great! We ordered: 1) pork and preserved duck egg congee (more for my parents, one portion) 2) shiu mai (2 portions) 3) honeycomb tripe w/ curry sauce (1 portion) 4) shrimp balls (3 portions for Gavin and my parents) 5) gai lan (2 portions for my parents) 6) ginger and scallion tripe (3 portions) 7) Shanghai XLB (1 portion) 8) crab meat and shrimp dumpling (1 portion) 9) tea for my parents (they do charge for tea) 10) beef meatballs (1 portion) While the most outrageous price was the congee ($24) but I understand cost of goods nowadays due to shortages so no outrage there. The price is listed, if you don't like it, simply don't order it. Service can be slow at times but the food runners are friendly and helpful. Just need to ask and add in a "please" and "thank you" will go a long way. My favorites: beef meatballs, tripe, and the honeycomb tripe; the curry sauce was delicious! The food was good. My parents enjoyed it. They want to come back to try their dinner. My bill came out to $164 and that includes the service fee everyone is surprised about. It would be helpful if they posted that before people get seated so no one can complain about it. I don't know where the 15% will go to but we tipped the server $30 because of his personality and attitude. I wanted to treat my parents, told them to meet here at 11:15. Thankfully, I am never on time so Gavin and I were seated first. By the time we left, there were more than 30 people waiting outside. This place is located in the same plaza / parking lot as Macaroni Grill. A welcoming addition to the area so folks do not need to drive to McCarthy area to brave the parking disaster. Can't wait for my company to have folks back in the building; my office is a 5 min. drive. Been working from home for almost 2 years - not a glimpse of normalcy. Anyway. Yes, price is pretty expensive but if you have money to go out, don't complain. If you don't want to spend the money or don't like the prices, either dine elsewhere or don't order those dishes. Glad you guys opened during this challenging supply chain time. read more

Overall, I love the interior, high ceilings, spacious, new, and clean The food is alright. Some standouts include the The House Special Crispy BBQ Pork and the Pumpkin Sea Cucumber Millet Congee I think this space is more for big events! The staff is awesome, cheers read more

Sorry. Bad service highlights my experience. Check in and waiting for a table was fine. Get a number and there's a tv that shows status real time. Menu available to choose what you want by making them; or you can do it at your table. Ordering was fast. Tea arrived quickly. Then... 25 minutes for first dish. Short rib in teriyaki sauce was tasty but there was probably half an ounce of meat and a bunch of veggies. All bones! Rip off. Another 10 minutes the golden egg fried rice comes. Definitely the best part of the meal. Nice flavor with salted fish and crispy skinned pork. Still waiting for third dish after 45 minutes. Trying to wave a waiter or maitre'd down to help us. No one comes. So I walk over to the host station to tell them our food hasn't come and it's been 50 minutes by now. The host was rude and said ''I'll check and get out of this area''. Uh, ok. Go back to the table, wait another 10 min. I decided to forget it. I go back to the host station and say cancel it, it's been an hour. Same host rudely snatched the paper from my hand and walked away. Went back to table to wait yet another 5 minutes for the actual check. When it came I paid cash for fear of waiting another 10 minutes for them to run a credit card. No apologies for us having to cancel a dish because it never came. What an ass. The kicker... it was shu mai!! The easiest and most common dish. AND... they forced 15 percent gratuity in the bill!! Screw them. read more

We ordered the holiday B set dinner with a few extra items for takeout tonight. As take out goes, most of the dishes were average. However, the BBQ skin was still very crispy. But I only live about 15 minutes away. The empress chicken was my least favorite. Chicken was a little over cooked and the ginger sauce wasn't good comparing to other places out there. Takeout portions are not very big especially those black containers were not very deep. However, I will return at another time during the weekday to dine in, and see if they are better. read more
Really glad there's another dim sum in town (Milpitas). Everything is new since I believe they opened in Nov 2021. So huge that I have not seen them super packed yet. No long waits is always a plus. Dim sum taste pretty good, on par with koi palace. Customer service is standard (not the best but not the worst) Not sure why all the low reviews! read more

HL Peninsula Restaurant is located at McCarthy Ranch in Milpitas. I passed by this place awhile ago, and they were still working on the interior. While on my way to try out another place, the Grand Opening banner caught my attention. I decided to try this place out. The interior is spacious, designed for banquet hall style weddings. I was led to a table. As I was seated, I learned that they had been opened for a month. I selected my Dim Sum and got my Tea. While waiting, I took in the decor. Soon my Dim Sum was delivered to my table one dish at a time. The food was delicious. The pricing is comparable to Grand Dynasty in San Jose. I will return to sample more of their menu. read more

New hot spot dim sum in town! They open at 10am on Sat best to go early to beat the crowds. Interior is all fancy and shiny! Food wise everything was tasty except for the shrimp rice roll. It was mushy and really gross. I don't know it was over steamed or what?!? Here is what we ordered: -steamed tripe (4/5) -glutinous fried dumpling (5/5) -roasted duck (5/5) -Sui mai (5/5) -har gow (4/5) -baked bbq pork buns (5/5) -tangerine salted lava bun (5/5) -bbq rice roll (4/5) -shrimp rice roll (Nasty) -Fried sushi (3/5) -tofu (4/5) -XLB (3/5) Fed 2 hungry adults and 3 kids! We were stuffed when we left! They do add 15% gratuity to your bill! This was all about $120. Need to go back to try the other dishes as their menu is vast! Go hangry! read more

The food comes out on carts but you order by checking off the items you want from a menu.
How much are the VIP room? How much would it be if less than 15 people were to book the room?
The minimum is $400 for 10 people for lunch time. I just booked last month.
Do you serve dim sum on weekend? My friend came to eat dim sum on Saturday and dim sum was not served.
I just went yesterday (Saturday) and had dim sum. My guess would be it depends on the time your friend went because dim sum is meant for brunch (breakfast/early lunch) and typically dim sum places stop serving it about 1-2pm
