I'll make this short and sweet for you busy foodies. We came here for dinner on a Saturday evening. We called earlier in the day for a table for 11. Glad we did because it was pretty busy. Service was a bit slow at first but picked up once we placed order. It took us 45 minutes before we got our order in. About 20-30 minutes of that was waiting for our waiter, but next time I'll just flag down one of the suit dudes. Quick food summary: * Salted yolk pumpkin lobster (5/5) * Braised pork belly (5/5) * Crispy bbq pork (4/5) * Peking duck (4/5) * Sautéd scallops and prawns with truffle sauce (1/5) Food is very good overall. Below are the pictures of the ones we like. These are all 4/5 star dishes taking into account taste and value. My favorite is the lobster because who doesn't like bits of salted yolk on seafood? We also ordered a couple of vegetable dishes (not pictured). They were a bit pricey at $22. What's not so good is the sautéed scallops and prawns served with lots of greens. For $38 it's just overpriced. Couldn't taste anything truffle as it claims to be in the sauce. We also didn't get our steamed fish with tofu or they simply took so long making that we cancelled. Unlike most Chinese places where they'd smirk at you for canceling an order, this place offered complimentary taro buns in addition to the free bean dessert. I can appreciate that gesture especially when my 7yo loves the buns. This new restaurant has good but not great service. We may also try their private rooms priced at $800 minimum order for a table of 10. We'll certainly come back to try their dim sum. FYI, our table of 11 (6 adults and rest are young kids) was $408. I've long heard from people that had to try HL peninsula and heard that the original location was better than Koi Palace. We finally made it for dim sum on a Saturday morning, and I appreciate that they accepted reservations since we had a big party or 12! We started at 10:30, but by the time we left around noon, despite the massive size of the place, there was a wait. The restaurant is huge and grand, good for large banquets, and as you eat, you just watch their wedding banquet ads and menu items on these huge screens. Since it's a pretty new location, everything is bright and clean. Ordering is by menu, but they have the occasional cart (I think just for transporting what people ordered). We got the usuals: - Har gow: quite generously sized, with a bit of tobiko on the outside - Shiu mai: again, huge - Daikon cake: I wish it had more of a char - Black pepper spare ribs - Char siu bun: non traditional, more saucy and sweet - Tofu skin wrap: flavorful and good variety of stuff in the filling - Sticky rice in lotus leaf: nice with the dried scallop - Fried taro dumplings - Chicken feet: not my thing, but family liked it - Steamed sponge cake: pretty big, fluffy - Steamed shrimp rice noodle: again, generous on the shrimp, good texture on the noodles - Ling cod two ways: chow fun and porridge - interesting preparation. I wish it weren't bone in, but flavor was good Food came out surprisingly quickly given how busy it was, but their dim sum service is a well oiled machine! Celebrating my wife's birthday lunch here with a party of 6. We made reservations on a holiday with zero issues and were seated in a VIP area that was private and quiet making the food even more enjoyable. The host was exceptionally attentive and comforting offering recommendations and helping check on our very large order. He offered recommendations and provided great service in making our time here super enjoyable. He reminded me of an uncle I have. Highly recommend this place for any meal! read more

Expensive, complete rip off and the icing on the cake is the 18% service charge for 4 people and the service sucked! Missing dishes, had to remind the server if you could find him, absolutely terrible. Spent 300 bucks for dinner for 4 and it was not worth it at all!! Upscale and expansive, HL Penisula is a place to take someone to impress them. I only dined here for Dimsum so my review is limited to that menu. I think their shrimp dumpling in ginseng soup and wild rice crispy shrimp rice roll are worth returning for. These are unique items that you would not find at many other places. For the rest of the standard Dimsum fare, there are cheaper and equally good places to get them such as Joyful Dimsum Bistro (Fremont) and Tim's Teapot (Hayward), although none can quite match HLP on its grand ambiance. read more

I have never been so disappointed. Such a beautiful space but service was extremely lacking. It was so hard to track down our server, almost felt like he was avoiding us, and when we he did come to our table it was always a rushed interaction. We came on a Friday morning and there were still a lot of empty tables, so it's definitely not because of the crowd. Additionally, we asked for a side of soy sauce and chili oil FOUR times, yet we never ended up getting it at all. That's pretty baffling. Pretty decent dim sum. We'd been wanting to try this for a while and the opportunity came up recently. The service is decently fast (we appreciate the multi cultural employees). They missed a couple of the things we ordered though (the menu is very busy), but the we had plenty to eat still. Highlight of the meal was the stir fried xo sauce minded beef vermicelli noodle dish. The last time I came here was pre-pandemic and this was probably one of my favorite dim sum places to go to. The interior is just so so lovely that I even considered holding my wedding banquet there. However, this place had a management/staff change since then. Insider tip: nearly every Chinese restaurant will inevitably change management/staff but they do so without changing the legal name of the restaurant. They only either change the Chinese name or change their English name on printouts by just a little. If you look at the coupon they give you at the end of the mean, the name on there is now slightly different and has the words "Hot Pot" in the official name on there. Like why hot pot? There are no hot pots there! The parking lot is oddly really fenced off for some reason leaving very limited parking for the restaurant. The restaurant wasn't even that full yet but the parking was. I can't imaging what the parking would be like if the restaurant was fuller. The food quality seems to have gone down for sure as well. Somethings like the purple rice steamed noodle thing was way too salty, somethings like our pan friend noodle dish was way too bland, some things like the radish cake only had miniscule amounts of radish. Overall, there was something about nearly every dish that was a bit off about it. My parents and I will probably not be coming again any time soon, not until the next time they change staff again. The service at HL Peninsula is SO SLOW for dimsum on Sunday primetime. I get that the restaurant is MASSIVE so its hard to service that many people but even getting the attention of a server for a refill on tea or the check took 20 minutes. Overall, the dim sum was standard, nothing really stood out. And the wait for a table was pretty much immediate but I'll credit that to how large the restaurant is. Other than that, there are much better dim sum places in the Bay Area and I won't come back here again unless it was for a special occasion or until I've heard they worked out the kinks. read more

I been here twice for lunch with a few close friends on a Wednesday. This is probably the biggest dim sum place in Milpitas or perhaps in the South Bay! Surprisingly got a pretty big crowd during mid week and the service is pretty decent as well. Overall dim sum is average, nothing special. I believe their cost is a bit higher. The restaurant is spacious with high ceiling and do have private rooms as well upon request/reservation. They do have other locations throughout the Bay Area and they all have the same decorations and layout. if you don't want to wait and looking for a decent place for dim sum - this is it!!! Came in multiple times in the past few months. Here is my 2 cents: Service: 0/5 Horrible or no service at all. The waiter took your orders and you won't see them again. Never check on you during your meals. Never rerill your tea pot. When you ask for napkins, it takes forever. I guess since the restaurant automatically add 18% tip for dinner and 15% for lunch. There is no incentive to give u good service. Food: 2/5 Waiters tend to hinted to you to order big tickets dishes,which we did at times. It tasted good. But for regular menu dishes, I guess they used inexperienced chef to cook. It tasted very blunt. We spent anywhere between $200-300 each time ( see attached receipt). One star for the way the restaurant is decorated and setup, good for banquets. Zero stars for their dimsum. We just went to another dim sum place a day ago in Cupertino and wanted to try this place today as a comparison, ended up with a huge disappointment. As someone from Hong Kong and loves authentic Chinese food, I found the taste and quality of their dim sum is not good at all. Out of the items we ordered (pictures attached), the best was shiu mai. Other items were really mediocre. Two worst items were the steamed taro cake (L price). It's tasteless, taro all went into small pieces, and so bland. The other really bad item is the pan fried sticky rice with miso and Wasabi sauce. They brought it with the middle dented as if a plate was pushed onto it, and they said it was the lid. We also saw a piece of red something in the plate that didn't belong to the dish. We got so disgusted and returned it. They didn't remove it from the final check we had to ask them to do so. Amazing food!!!! For context this is a traditional restaurant meaning that some of the waiters don't fully speak English, which was NOT a problem at all. I went to the restaurant with one of my friends and we pointed to the images on yelp for the food we wanted to order. Food was good but service sucks big time! We had a party of 4 on NYE around 6pm. We ordered duck, soy sauce chicken, stir fry asparagus. The food was really yummy but slow coming out. After the server took our order, she was no where to be seen. We had a hard time flagging down anyone to ask about our order, give us bowls, refill tea, or napkins. Yet we were charged 18% service fee. If you can tolerate unattentive service, then maybe it's ok to eat there. read more

Lunch was great when it newly opened. Tried it again and it was meh. Then we tried dinner. That didn't go well. The service was mediocre. We ordered quite a few dishes but each dish was not up to par. My friend asked if the crab was actually 2.5 pounds. Then manager said have you had crab before. Wow the manger made the us change our mind that we are not coming back for dinner with that type of remarks. The service was horrible and the food wasn't great either for the price point. I don't like leaving bad reviews, but god, this place is awful. I've been three times now, but it always leaves a bad taste in my mouth service wise AND food wise. Seating is usually fast because is this place is huge, which is good, but after that, it all goes down hill. Customer service here is ATROCIOUS. I had a server continue to bump into my sister's back while passing by and not even apologize. He pushed her pretty roughly and she was pretty mad about that. If your restaurant is that big, shouldn't you have more space between tables? In addition, we had a waitress spill hot tea all over the table and not even bring over napkins to hep us wipe it down. It spilled a bit on us, but luckily, not too much. There are better, cheaper dim sum or even family styled Chinese restaurants in Milpitas. You don't have to look far. Their food is mediocre. Duck is alright. The Xiaolongbao is under flavored, the beef cheungfan was disgusting and probably one of the worst things I've eaten in a while. Say, if you do want to come here, dinner is passable even though it's super pricey. Don't even bother for dim sum. Waste of time and money. read more
