Pork & Crab Roe Siu Mai
    Kevin N.

Cane here with a party of 3 for Father's Day, got quickly seated in a side room unfortunately rather than the main area where we could browse carts. We ordered our usual: shrimp rolls, shrimp dumplings, sui mai, salted fish and chicken fried rice, chicken feet. Unfortunately literally every dish came before the sui mai and shrimp dumplings (seriously? its the most popular dish). I'll start off with the good dishes because honestly there were so little, the two best dishes were the siu mai and chicken feet. The siu mai was hearty, flavors were good, and it was large. The chicken feet was cooked perfectly, texture was consistent throughout and the flavors were subtle and well seasoned. Now the fried rice was 25$, I really wanted this to be good. My honest description of it is ‍, the rice was well cooked, shards were fluffy and seasoned nicely yet that was it. The salted fish was rarely seen, youd only notice every 3 spoonfuls and the chicken was passable. Shrimp rice rolls and shrimp dumplings are my stable go tos, I've been eating these dishes since I was small. These two were a complete disappointment, the batter were both chewy and honestly felt TOO thick. Then it seemed like there was a batter of some sort on both shrimp fillings? This cause the shrimp to have bites that were EXTREMELY chewy, like why are rice rolls chewy??? Final bill was 150$ for mid food that came out late and poorly time. Would NOT come here again.

Had a wonderful experience dining here for a weekend wedding! HL is part of an Asian plaza and has lots of parking. It's a grand space as expected for a Chinese restaurant. The service staff were fast and efficient in cleaning up finished plates and placing the apps and entrees of the set menu. The bartenders were great and friendly with the drink service. The venue has a dessert container with notable brands like Haagen-Dazs and melona bars. The whole restaurant was grand that can occupy a stage, projectors, and lots of fun lights. The food was a great set menu primary of seafood dishes like abalone, lobster noodles, seafood salad, and so much more. Great experience!

Came here with 11 people and bill came out to $355 with tip which is decent in this day and age. We ordered a lot of different dishes but they said they ran out of Chow fun so had to replace it with a different noodle dish but then ended up not brining it till we were done eating everything else. Some notes - The steamed dumpling skins tended to stick to each other and break while picking them up. The spare ribs were tender but a little bland. Needed black beans The shui mai are good but a little too fluffy which makes me think they have a lot of fat in them. The steamed rice rolls were nice. The gai lan was a bit fibrous and tough. The stir fried snow pea shoots with bean curd skin was a little bland. The durian puffs were good!

We usually come here with a big group and get a room reservation, then order the set menu. The restaurant is always bustling on weekends, so without a reservation, would definitely expect a wait time. The dim sum carts have large variety and are fresh and fast, but the set menu helps alleviate the chaos and the decision of having to pick what to get haha. The food gets delivered fast and is fresh. The set menu has a large variety of different foods, from meat like duck and sweet / sour chicken, to veggies like mushroom and snap peas, to seafood like fish and lobster and scallops, as well as soup and fried rice. The food is served in waves, so there's always a new dish on the table every 5-10 minutes. The portions are massive! We always have plenty of leftovers to last us the rest of the weekend. Everything is tasty and seasoned well. My personal favs are the fried pumpkin, lobster noodles, and scallops, although all dishes were hits. Will definitely be back for the next group gathering!

Came here with two friends for dim sum on Saturday late morning to try out a new (to us) place. We made a reservation online to make things a little less painful since Saturday dim sum brunch time can get intense with crowds. When we arrived, I checked us in and we were seated right away. The space was gorgeous - spacious, bright, elegant, high ceilings, ginormous screens. They served us tea right away and left a menu on the table for us to fill out and order from. Since I was the lone Asian person at the table, I took the liberty of filling out our order. I placed the completed form at the edge of the table for the wait staff to pick up, after about 10 minutes of no one stopping by, I had to do the arm waving thing to flag someone down. I typically expect minimal to no customer service when going out for dim sum - it's just culturally expected. The food eventually slowly started to come out, a dish and basket at a time, but we had no sauces, so I had to get again flat someone down for some. Once we were settled with sauces, we were good. So. Try good, as a matter of fact. Each dish & basket was fresh, delicious, & left me excited for the next bite. I ordered the standard dim sum dishes, plus some. The steamed bbq pork bun was beautifully crafted & fluffy, moist, & delicious. The group favorite was the salted egg yolk lava bun - painted on top with a stroke of gold, when I broke open the bun, it yielded a delicious golden & sweet yolk that left everyone at the table with surprising delight. The food quality definitely made up for the poor service, but someday, I dream that there will be a dim sum restaurant experience that serves up both.

    * Visited on a Sunday with a party of 2- the wait was about 20 minutes Surprisingly, this was my first visit to HL Peninsula and I loved it. The portions are great and everything was tasty & delicious. The staff were quick to help us out and get our order in. I appreciate the fact that there was PLENTY of seating, and that the restaurant is quite spacious. OKAY THE FOOD: * Dim sum STAPLES - You can't go to dim sum and NOT GET SIU MAI. I wish I ordered more but we had ordered a good amount of other items to try. The siu mai was the perfect size too, not overly large or small. * Chicken feet with black bean sauce- 20/10. Loved it and loved the fact that it wasn't smothered in the sauce. * Turnip cake - I absolutely love a good fried turnip cake. It was seared great and tasted amazing. If a dim sum restaurant can't make a good turnip cake... you gotta go somewhere else. * XO Rolls - it was very tasty and cooked well! It was seasoned amazing and had the perfect sear to some rolls while maintaining its flavor.

We came here on a Friday night to celebrate a graduation. The restaurant interior and decor is very modern and pretty. Plenty of private rooms to dine in, 2 humongous TV, and plenty to space esp for a wedding. Well, we reserved for a party of 24. Placed our order, but the food took a while to come out. It did not seem so busy for a Friday night around 7:30pm. There were plenty of tables available. When our first dish came out, it was the fish maw soup. Which is usually eaten with red vinegar and white pepper, but there was none on our table. We asked for white pepper 3x and no one brought it to us. The soup ended up being ao bland, the only bland dish for the night, because everything else we ordered are SALTY!!!!! SALTY! SALTY! SALTY! We ordered 2 of everything bc we had to 2 tables. Thefried shrimp, SALTY! Honey walnut shrimp, SALTY! Expensive lobster with noodle, SALTY! A few tofu dishes, SALTY! Clams were okay. I forgot what else we ordered, but it was SALTY! And I wasn't the only one who felt this way. Service was HORRIBLE!! I had to ask for water for 3 different people, I order in English and Chinese, and still nothing. The white pepper we asked showed up around the end of meal. I'm not sure if all the staff were new, but it was horrible service. Especially for a $1,000 meal, we want better service, just asking for the bare minimum. Will not be attending again.

First time to HL Peninsula on Sunday night- my husband and I were surprised by the great service, generous portions. Both our dishes were pretty tasty, not salty. We also got a warm red bean dessert at the end. Nice ambiance- I felt like I was in Asia.

Personally, I've never craved dim sum but this meal changed that for me! The restaurant is definitely a more upscale dim sum spot. It's really large, bright, and very clean. The service is also pretty fast. However, because the restaurant is so large and is often packed especially on weekends, you'll probably have to ask your server more than once for something. Overall though, this is my family's new preferred spot for dim sum Dishes: - Pork belly with caviar: was super tender and juicy, basically melt in your mouth texture. However I was hoping the skin would be crispy like typical roast pork so I missed that. -Siu Mai: super plump, juicy, and flavorful! Typically I get bored of siu mai but this one was so good! - Glutinous rice dumpling: one's I've had in the past have been dense but this one was nice and light and the filling too salty - soy sauce noodles: this is my favorite childhood dim sum side but I felt this one was more wet, rather than the dry noodles I'm used to and prefer. I would still get it though since it's one of my favorite dishes. - shrimp noodle roll: overall it was okay. I will say tha the shrimps were HUGEEE which to most people would be great but personally it was a bit too much for me.

Huge dining hall with giant TV. Nice interior. good dimsum especially the tiny taro bits in the chicken feet, black lava bun and pandan (green) tart. we had the usual har-kau, siu-mai, fu-zu (beancurb skin), all were okay.

Came here with some friends for a get together before the holiday. It's your typical Chinese restaurant service where it's not great but wasn't horrible either. It's a Saturday night so they had two weddings going on. They kept flashing the lights and volume is music was all over the place. The food was fairly decent. Nothing really out shined. I think this restaurant is known for the seafood which we did t really get much of. Might consider trying again... but maybe for their dim sum

We went HL Peninsula for the first time to celebrate my mom's birthday. We reserved 3 tables and ore-ordered the food. The restaurant is open and nicely decorated. The prices are a higher than other dim sum restaurants. The food was brought out inconsistently. Some tables had to wait for certain dishes while other tables were served already. Overall, our experience was average.

As of this writing (12/30/24) do they serve dim sum on carts? If so, is it for lunch or dinner or both? Thx

The food comes out on carts but you order by checking off the items you want from a menu.

How much are the VIP room? How much would it be if less than 15 people were to book the room?

The minimum is $400 for 10 people for lunch time. I just booked last month.

Do you serve dim sum on weekend? My friend came to eat dim sum on Saturday and dim sum was not served.

I just went yesterday (Saturday) and had dim sum. My guess would be it depends on the time your friend went because dim sum is meant for brunch (breakfast/early lunch) and typically dim sum places stop serving it about 1-2pm

Do you take reservation for wedding?

Of course! Very nice place .

Do you serve dim sum at dinner?

No they don't. Just during lunch.

    Do they have wifi?

    Sorry but no.

What time are you open on Sunday?

    10-2:30pm 5-9:30 pm on Sunday's

Do you accept reservations for dim sum on weekends?

Sorry , no reservation for dim sum .

The Chinese sausage pieces sprinkled throughout added extra flavor too. The bowl is deep so there seemed to be roughly 5 cups of rice. Unfortunately the laksa shrimp fried rice was disappointing in comparison. It didn't have much flavor overall - better than plain rice but definitely needed more seasoning. The menu lists homemade laksa sauce as an ingredient but we didn't taste that, and the dish wasn't spicy at all either despite the 1 chili pepper rating. But it looked just like the menu picture so maybe the description is wrong. Fried chicken with tom yum sauce came with 6 pieces. Very juicy. We also enjoyed the herbal roasted prime steak with sausage rice. The delicious rice had the taste of fish sauce. Most of the short rib slices were soft and a few were slightly chewy but overall decent quality. Some of the fattier pieces of meat were still attached to the bone.

I came here on a Friday evening with my friend to grab dinner around 6:00 PM. The wait was around an hour, so be very prepared if you're coming during the dinner rush. This spot is located where the majority of the Asian restaurants are in Milpitas, so it's safe to say the parking can get a bit hectic and intense. The interior of the place is very bright, modern, and clean. There is a lot of seating for a small space, but the reason they are so busy has a lot to do with the number of people wanting to check this spot out. When you sit down, you scan their virtual menu via QR code and order there instead of through a server. You have the choice to order on one phone as a group or separately. Between my friend and me, we ordered a beef mint salad, fried tofu, confit mushrooms, and truffle mushroom rice. I will say that when we first got the fried tofu and confit mushrooms, we were quite surprised by the small portions compared to the price. That said, they were delicious, but skippable if you're trying to find the best bang for your buck. What I absolutely would recommend is their truffle mushroom fried rice. This might have been my best bite this month. It was so savory, the mushrooms hit perfectly, and the coating of butter on the rice was supreme. It was $28 for a bowl, but it was a good value to split between two people. Overall, this place had great, fast service (our food came out in under 10 minutes), a nice ambiance, and fresh, flavorful food.

I don't know even how to begin this review, because this place was BEYOND AWFUL. We have been here…read moremany times over the years because of our Chinese family friends. First, let's start with cleanliness. The bathroom was disgusting. If this is where the cooks relieve and wash their hands, yikes! Literally a biohazard. Trash overflowing and everything was sticky and the toilets were very dirty. Just yikes. Also if you look at the dining inspection score on the Santa Clara county website, it scored a literal 20/100. This is worse than competitors for kitchen cleanliness. This explains the many food poisoning reviews here. We got served raw food and things that looked a bit spoiled here and luckily we spotted it and didn't get sick. Read the inspection report and it's really disgusting. I'm not sure how this place is still open. I get service at Chinese restaurants serving primarily Chinese immigrants isn't top tier, but this place takes it to the next level in being abysmal. The front desk staff is belligerent and they DO NOT RESPECT YOUR RESERVATION and make you stand outside and wait for up to 30 minutes. This happened to us a couple times. Also if you are an English speaker/non Chinese speaker, the front desk staff only speaks mandarin for the most part so good luck too if you are a Cantonese speaker. They also hold and reserve table numbers for refused to jump the waitlist and reservations. That was just the host staff, the waiters were not better. Waiters were very hard to flag down and sometimes they see you and ignore you because they don't want to serve you and do their job. They also are too busy sometimes and seem overworked so their employer (a very rich duo of brothers) need to treat their employees better and train them better so they have a better attitude for customers. We also had one waiter when cleaning our table poured our water glasses into a bowl then dumped in onto the carpet onto the ground which was a first for me and my family. This was very memorable in a bad way. The environment is also very uncomfortable to dine in. The seating is packed in so tight that it's so loud you can't hear the other people at your table. It's also a fire hazard since several emergency exits were visibly blocked by tables, chairs, or people crowding at the entrance. I've seen reviews here and on Google claiming to have reported the restaurant to the fire marshal. This seems to be true because there were several times the restaurant de densified the dining room before densifying it again weeks later. If a fire broke out, this would be deadly due to exits being blocked and the restaurant being over capacity. This place is just waiting for something really bad to happen. This place is also very expensive and claims to be an elevated authentic dim sum experience targeting Chinese immigrants and ABCs. And it sucks for the price paid given the food, service, and environment (and the literal fire danger they put you in) Finally, as many have complained here, there is a mandatory 18% gratuity and they demand a tip on top of it. They hide it from their menu so you don't find out, but that's illegal in California to hide a mandatory gratuity. Honestly, the gratuity isn't worth it for the nasty service and food anyways. The only have it because the owners know their restaurant is so bad they have to put a gratuity because otherwise people won't pay tips. What a joke of a business, I'm not sure why so many people still support it by singing its praises here and patronizing a restaurant that clearly doesn't care about either its employees or customer.

This restaurant has been around for a long time serving Cantonese cuisine in Milpitas. They have…read moredim sum available during lunch in addition to their regular menu items. A few dishes they do well here are the salt and pepper spare ribs (pork chop), salt and pepper fish fillet, dried scallop with egg fried rice - all their varieties of fried rice are yummy. Servers are courteous but if the restaurant is busy, servers don't come around as often as they should. You may have to flag them down. I recommend asking for everything up front if you don't see what you want at your table. For example, certain condiments or dipping sauces for your dim sum or glasses of water, extra napkins, etc. Request that stuff when the wait staff first show up or when you order. The ambiance is your typical Chinese restaurant. Simple and clean enough considering how long this restaurant has been in business. Nice chandeliers. Busy on the weekends for those coming in for dim sum. Restaurant is a decent size and has tables that are good for larger parties as well. Located in a busy plaza which houses many eateries near Lion Supermarket.

The staff is friendly and nice including the owner who knows my go to meal which is beat tendon stew with turnip. I have had other dishes and they are all superb and delicious. Not sure what all the complaints about the food are but I have dined in a lot of Chinese dim sum places including Koi Palace and I love this place more. I have not ordered a dish I did not like and I have tried quite a few of the chef specials already. Ambiance is huge and wide open with nice tables and cloth. I go after work at around 7pm and there is a nice spattering of regulars but I know this place gets crowded in the weekend.. Price is fair but the food and ingredients high quality so I don't care as good food trumps price. I love this place and am happy the owners and staff recognize me. The food is superb and tasty and the ambiance perfect when not busy. I highly recommend coming here for an awesome food and chef to table experience!

Everything is more expensive everywhere these days. The thing is, this place is solid. I've always had a good meal here. Everyone I've ever shared a meal with here has always enjoyed it. So, maybe the lower rating will scare others off. Personally, I'll enjoy eating here over and over again. BTW, their baked pork bun, chowfun, and tofu wrapped pork/mushroom dishes are delicious.

I am a huge fan of the noodles here -- very wide, flat and chewy. They also do not skimp out on the amount of food that they give you. The portions here are HUGE! The service is also very quick and they make sure to seat you right away and bring your food out in a timely manner. I went when it was busy and I was very satisfied with the efficiency. Pork Wonton with Chili Sauce - 9/10. The dumpling were so juicy and the pork inside was very flavorful. The chili sauce added a nice kick of spice and was so savory. Braised Chicken with Flat Noodles - 8/10. The flat noodles were the best part of the dish and honestly it wasn't spicy! Numb Spicy beef flat Noodles - 10/10. This dish had a strong kick to it! It was spicy but the best part was that the spice did not overwhelm the flavor. The wide chewy noodles soak up every bit of the rich savory sauce making each bite so flavorful. They also have so many toppings other than the beef too which I liked.

They were not busy and we were advised to order soon, as their kitchen would close shortly. Items ordered: Soy sauce chow mein- Large portion and taste was fine and as expected. The fried garlic was good but this was VERY fatty. Majority of the pork chops were gristle and inedible. Choy in broth- Large order and taste was fine.
