On Friday evening, September 4th (yesterday) after work, I went to Holbox with my mom and my two brothers. I think I've been to Holbox about four or five times now. The last time I went was on October 3rd and September 12th of last year, so it had been almost a year since my last visit. The very first time was last summer with about 10 members from my Korean community group. We all thought the food was really delicious, and that's why I kept coming back. As you would expect from such a popular restaurant, there are always a lot of people here. Yesterday was no exception, and there was a pretty long line outside. Fortunately, the line moved fairly quickly, so it didn't feel too bad. After we decided what to order, I was reminded again that the prices here are quite expensive for a restaurant located inside a food court. Last year, I ordered for all four of us at once, and the total came to almost $200. So this time, we decided to pay separately for my mom and myself, while my two brothers each paid for their own meals. I ordered two of my absolute favorite dishes here, the Tostada de Kanpachi & Uni. This is something I really love because it tastes so fresh and delicious every time I have it. It's definitely a must-order dish for me. I also ordered two Taco de Pescado al Carbón. Those four items alone came to about $70. I also remembered that I had tipped way too much here last year, so this time I only left a $5 tip. (It is the food court system, even they bring the foods to our table) That brought my total to $75. My brothers ordered the large Brazilian fish, the Tostada Uni, and ceviche. Everything we had was delicious overall, but honestly, the tacos I ordered yesterday were not really for my taste at all. So next time I come here, I don't think I'll order the same tacos again. On the way to the restroom, I noticed people at another table eating lobster. I asked them where they ordered it from, and they told me they ordered it from Holbox. It looked absolutely delicious, so I'm definitely going to try the lobster next time I come here. I also really like that they have a water station near the section where people line up outside. There are cups available there, so you can help yourself to water while waiting, which is very convenient. One downside is that the restroom always has a noticeable smell. Fortunately, it's located quite far away from the dining area, but it also doesn't look particularly clean or sanitary. Another thing is that you have to eat certain dishes, especially the tostadas and tacos, with your hands. I personally don't really like eating food with my hands, but with tostadas and tacos, there's really no other way. After washing my hands in the restroom, the smell of the liquid soap is also quite unpleasant and strong. Unfortunately, I can still smell the soap on my hands while I'm eating, which bothers me quite a bit. And because Holbox is always so incredibly popular, finding a table can be difficult. Luckily, we were able to get a table pretty quickly yesterday. Overall, I still really enjoy coming here for the fresh and delicious seafood, especially the Tostada de Kanpachi & Uni. Even though there are a few things I don't love about the experience, the food itself is definitely why I keep coming back.

Food - All the raw seafood was excellent. Really fresh and the fish pairings complemented each other well with their flavors. The tuna ceviche stood out to me the most and worth trying. The kanpachi tostada was also great, and the uni with scallop was a nice pairing. Fish tacos were good but not as memorable as the raw dishes. Also tried the smoked kanpachi taco but again not outstanding compared to the raw seafood. Their sauces were also good but spicy! The light brown one had a unique flavor to it and was my favorite but also the spiciest so be aware. Price - On the higher end as expected from a Michelin 1 star, but the quality on the raw dishes justifies it. Wouldn't say every dish is worth the price, but most of them were good. Ambience - This is a food hall setup, you order at the counter, get a number, and they'll bring your food to you. Lines can get long, especially since it seems busy most days now. If the wait isn't worth it, there are other solid-looking vendors in the same food hall to check out. Parking - Small paid lot on site, or street parking nearby. It's also next to a DMV in which you can park after 6pm-ish (would double check the signs)

I stayed at USC hotel so I decided to give this place a try since I heard about it from YouTube. The place is inside a food hall and shares tables with the other restaurants. The line went outside the building, but it moved decently fast. After ordering you get a number and they will deliver the food to your table. I got a variety of their tacos. Each taco had a unique twist to it, and tasted really good. They also had a cool black tortilla which had a nice texture. I especially like the fried fish one as it had a mellow yet delicious flavor. I also got their cheap chips, and that as well worth the price. Definitely give this place a shot. It does match up to the hype.

Food: 4.5/5 Food so very fresh! Some dishes were a bit on the sour side, so a bit much for my liking. But everything needs to try the uni,so good! The civiche is also a must try! Service: 5/5 Even though the place operates as a good court, somehow it works. Staff was excellent. The staff was always available to assist. Ambiance: 5/5 Really cool vibe. Very well maintain and really nice decor. I love the dry age fishes on display being the bar counter.

You get what you paid for, savory, the flavurrr, the freshness, chefs kiss. The line can get very long, lots of seatings outside. If you looking to splurge this spot is it fosho! They don't skimp on these. The sad part is when you finish eating cause boyyy, you gon wanna order more but your wallet lookin kinda sad!

BLOWN AWAY. Honestly despite all the accolades Holbox has received I put off coming here thinking it was overhyped...boy was I wrong!! First, street parking is decent you don't need to park in that lot. 2nd - the line is always long regardless of when you go. We got there at 3:30p on a Sunday of a holiday weekend but...there was a line. You can go in the Mercado while others are holding your group's place in the line for a browse or an agua Fresca tho! 3rd - GET THE SMOKED KANPACHI TOSTADA. this was the highlight of the meal. So so good. We also had the yellowtail collars (delish), octopus (also incredible) and a sampling of other tostadas split amongst the group. Scallop aguachile was also super zingy and refreshing. Their raw seafood dishes are more unique and worth eating here, over their cooked seafood in my opinion. Churros were also light and crispy and a delightful end to the meal Moral of the story is come to Holbox and eat a smoked kanpachi tostada. Don't be a doubter like me and put it off for this many years having lived in LA!! 12/10 worth the hype.

Food: The seafood was very fresh. We had mixto ceviche which is a mix of fish, shrimp and octopus, 3 different kinds of taco ( fish, shrimp and scallop) and the uni and scallop ceviche which was served in the uni shell. the portions are generous Service : fast and friendly Ambience: located in a food hall - it was clean. we could not find parking in th parking lot so we parked at the street . street parking comes with some unpleasant smell ( don't park in the street if you have a sensitive nose) others : there were a lot more interesting items in the menu which i will have to try my next visit

Holbox has been on my list forever, and I'm so glad we finally got to try it! Located inside a market, Holbox definitely lives up to the hype. If you want to sit in the bar area, I would recommend having someone wait in line while another person looks for a seat, especially when it's busy. We tried most of their highly recommended dishes, and honestly, I can still remember the first bite of each one. The flavors were that memorable. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and their ceviche was probably some of the freshest and most flavorful I've ever had. The freshness is truly undeniable. Make sure to try their hot sauces as well. They add so much flavor and are definitely worth trying. Some of the recommended dishes had flavors that were a little similar to each other, but overall, the quality, freshness, and taste definitely made up for it. And considering Holbox is a one Michelin star restaurant, the prices are surprisingly reasonable for LA. It is absolutely worth the hype and definitely a place I would come back to. Highly recommend! Parking can be a little difficult, but you can usually find street parking a few blocks away.

Well I finally made it to Holbox! It's been on my list for two years! Was it worth the hype? Absofreakinlutely! When we were there, there was this person standing at the counter and told us we can just sit there instead of waiting in line. What??? Shout out to that guy! He also said he can't go wrong with anything on the menu. He was completely right. The flavors are still on point. Tacos were great! I recommend the scallop one. I really wanna try the smoked kanpachi taco! but didn't realize there was a cheese one until after I left. Other must orders: Ceviche de Atún Spot Prawn & Scallop Aguachile Erizo Seriously so good!!

    Sea Urchin
    Ken L.

Always a line out the door, and after finally making it in, I can absolutely see why this place has earned multiple Michelin and James Beard accolades. We started with the Sea Urchin, a decadent combination of citrusy Baja bay scallop ceviche topped with rich, creamy uni that was as indulgent as it was fresh. The Baja blood clams on the half shell were another standout: briny, incredibly fresh, and absolutely delicious, letting the quality of the seafood speak for itself. The grilled kanpachi collars were outstanding, with beautifully crisp, smoky skin giving way to rich, buttery meat. The grilled branzino was equally impressive, perfectly charred on the outside while remaining light, flaky, and moist inside. A surprise favorite was the lineup of house-made hot sauces. Each had its own personality, delivering just the right balance of heat, acidity, and creaminess. I kept reaching for them with every dish. Every plate showcased exceptional ingredients and careful execution. After finally experiencing it for myself, the long line, Michelin recognition, and James Beard accolades all make perfect sense.

We were so excited to try this Michelin star resturaunt in the heart of dtla! Between the four of us we ordered the tuna tartare tostada, tostada de atún, scallop aguachile, cóctel de camarón, Baja shrimp taco, Baja fish taco, pulpo a las brasas, and the ceviche mixto. It ended up being the perfect amount of food for four people. The biggest highlight was how fresh everything tasted. The seafood quality was excellent, and nearly every dish had a bright, lime-forward flavor that really let the seafood shine. We went on a Wednesday evening and waited less than 10 minutes, which was a pleasant surprise. The ordering process was quick and efficient, and since it's located inside a food hall, they bring the food directly to your table. The prices were also very reasonable--honestly not much more expensive than your typical Mexican restaurant, especially considering the quality and freshness of the seafood. The only downside was the service after we were seated. Everyone was friendly, but we had to ask multiple times for an item we needed, and it unfortunately never arrived. As for the food, I thought the tacos were good but nothing particularly memorable, and the grilled octopus was just okay--not my favorite dish of the meal. The tostadas, ceviches, and other raw seafood dishes were definitely the stars. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend Holbox to anyone who loves fresh seafood. That said, I personally wouldn't wait an hour or more during peak weekend crowds. If you can visit on a weekday or during off-hours, I think you'll have a much better experience.

This was our 4th time time to Holbox and after all these years and accolades, then have stayed consistent. And that's saying something. The food is still top notch and Michelin worthy. The service is still great. The nook in the market in a questionable part of town all make it part of the adventure. And we love it! go Holbox!

    Camarones al Mojo
    Benjamin P.

I'll leave the glowing, exacting descriptions of the array of food delicacies served up at Holbox to other Yelpers, as there is no shortage of those who espouse this Michelin-star restaurant here on Yelp. What I can uniquely say is that their food is always consistently excellent, always served fast & fresh, and, their menu is ever-changing to reflect the sea catches of the season, so be sure to check their menu in advance to know your selections ahead of time. Parking is difficult to come by in the lot, so my advice is to park on the street and be prepared for a short walk to Holbox. Also, be prepared for an enduring wait in line -- I arrived at 4pm on a Saturday and the wait was still 40min+, albeit it was nevertheless worth it. Despite being amongst LA's renowned restaurants, ambience is casual as the food is served in a cafeteria setting. Their ceviches, tostadas, and Camarones / Shrimp al Mojo are my highlights.

The fried calamari, corn, empanadas, short rib tostada and chicken taco, all were good dishes but none of them were mind blowing. Prices were mostly fair. The service was really good. Dishes were missing items listed on the menu, portions were small, and the prices were laughable for what you get... think expensive guacamole that barely feeds one person, croquettes that tasted frozen, and fries that felt like an afterthought. Add in an extra kitchen fee on the bill and it just felt insulting. Service overall was scattered and disengaged, the space didn't feel very clean, and for a party of 8 being the only guests there, it somehow felt like we were an inconvenience. No warmth, no hospitality, no accountability. This place tries hard to look like an upscale Latin fusion spot, but it's all surface-level. Between the disrespectful comment, slow service, overpriced and mediocre food, and awkward vibes, this was an easy never again. Please save your time, money, and energy.

I had heard so many good things about Pollo a la Brasa, so I finally decided to give it a try…read moretoday. Starting with the positives: the food is delicious. I ordered the quarter chicken with rice and salad, and I was really impressed with the portion sizes. Everything was flavorful, comforting, and gave me the kind of authentic Latin food vibes that I love. The sauce was definitely the highlight for me--it was so good that I found myself adding it to every bite. The prices are also fantastic. For the quality and quantity of food you get, this place is truly a gem. That said, there were a couple of downsides. The restaurant itself is very small, with limited seating available. The customer service also wasn't the best during my visit. Since the dining area was completely full when we arrived, we decided to place our order to go. While we were waiting for our food, a table opened up, so we asked if we could sit down and eat there instead. We were told that because we had ordered our food to go, we were not allowed to sit in the restaurant. I found that a bit disappointing, especially since we had already paid for the same food as everyone else dining in. Overall, the food was excellent and definitely the reason I would come back. If I'm in the area and craving their chicken, I'd absolutely return--just with different expectations regarding the seating situation and service.

Quiet, not too loud round that time of day. As always, every time I go to a Salvi restaurant is for the pupusas. I ordered 3 of them, with different fillings on rice flour. To cut to the chase, they were a solid 2.5 out of 5. Cheese tasted like regular jack. Chicharron was okay. Their tomato salsa was hella thin, almost like just red water, no taste all either. Pupusas also felt kinda undercooked. The rice flour kept sticking on my gums and teeth and believe me, it ain't supposed to be that way. Looked cooked outside but inside the flour was super soft almost, well, like raw.

Service was attentive and friendly. Manager Alex came by and introduced himself and our waitress Michelle was on it. Food was just as good as other locations. Pupusas and pasteles were delicious. A big plus is that now I have a suprema to pair up with it...I could not be happier! Now this place is fairly new so they could use some more foot traffic but I am sure they will get there as soon as word spreads. FYI There is parking in the back of the restaurant. Look forward to get some sopa de pata there as well!
