Conveniently located next to the climbing gym, Holler Brewing has much to offer people in the area. As other reviewers stated, it's a bit small, but I had no issues finding seating despite going during Second Saturday. The place gives off a chill, welcoming vibe. The Belgian Dubbel beer was my favorite. The friends I went with also approved. It's got a very delicious, familiar flavor that I wouldn't normally associate with beer.... But that's what makes it interesting!! The best description I have is that it's like a milkshake but not as thick. I highly recommend at least trying it. The staff was friendly. They seemed to have food options as well, but I'm not sure if this changes daily/weekly. I did see a number for Star Pizza delivery as well. In conclusion, I'm very happy Houston has a brewery like this one that's walking distance from a climbing gym and art events. read more

I actually like this place quite a bit. The beers are good, staff is friendly, and parking is easy. I do want to give people a heads up that this spot isn't actually "dog-friendly" unless you wanna sit outside in the sun. I had my dog in tow while visiting and even though the staff was nice about it, I was basically asked to leave or take my frenchie outside in the heat. No one was rude to me about it but I figured I'd post to warn people that this spot isn't good for dogs in the summer so no one else wastes the trek. read more

Great little brewery in Houston! However emphasis on little because this place is SMALL. There are a couple tables inside but it gets really crowded due to everyone piling in to order a drink at the small bar. Im a big fan of light beers so I tried out the Dollar Pils and I can definitely say it's a solid choice for anyone who likes lighter beers! My two big drawbacks on this place is the lack of activities to do. I know they host events such as yoga but they do not have any entertainment happening or board games people can pick up and play. Maybe I just came on an off day but that was something my friends and I talked about. The other drawback was that a local cross fit place reserved almost all of the tables for "post work out beer" which was annoying because there aren't enough tables to begin with! So it makes it hard for everyone else to find space when they easily could have put more to one table rather than spreading out. Of all the newer breweries to open in Houston over the last year or so, Holler really stands out as the best of the lot. The bar setup is slightly awkward. A small L shaped bar, small outdoor area right out side that, and a narrow small space inside with communal high top tables. It is slightly sterile, in an industrial park, but really this is just a spot they carved out of their production facility, just to accommodate the beer drinkers. So that is understandable. No TV's, and still a comfortable fun spot to hang out. When they opened, they used the standard token system, but now, a few months later, they have a cash taproom. Which is always nice to see. I don't know why any brewery stays with that outdated system anymore? I went on opening weekend, and again just recently. I was not sure what to think when I saw how many styles they had to begin with. I was thinking they rushed to get as many styles out as they could for opening. Though everything right from the start has been of real quality. A constantly rotating list of about 9 different styles. The Pils, ESB, Marzen are all fantastic and spot on for the style. The ESB is probably my favorite in town, and the Pils ranks up there with 5 O'Clock. They have done Saisons, IPA's, Imperial Stouts, etc. They haven't done a lot of supper hyped styles or beers. Just incredibly well made classic styles from the start. Which is really impressive. Correct glassware for just about every style as well. The two owners are husband and wife. They are always mingling with everyone and out and about around town as well. Really knowledgeable and supper friendly. The brewery itself might not be a regular spot for me, though it is still a comfortable stop. 5 stars for the great quality and diversity of styles they offer. Most new breweries can't touch the quality here. I will always be looking for their offerings around town now. Easily one of the better breweries in Houston. read more

I am a fan of the craft brew movement booming in Houston. Holler Brewing is a strong part of this. Big fan of the community feel and the layout. It is easy to take a group of friends during the afternoon on a weekend and just let it get away from you on the patio. Big plus for family owned small operation. Great location as it is attached to the Silver Street Studio property. Can easily be a stop during the day here in the area. Very developed list of beers. The beer itself is difficult for me to peg as the few times I have been here I was already a little blitzed. With millions of people who live in Houston I am sure there is a flavor profile here for someone. Try a flight and sample all of the ones for yourself would be my suggestion. Food trucks are parked in the front in lieu of a kitchen and uses their Lately I have seen the Churrsaco truck. It is a genuinely good place. Hope this trend continues. read more

This was my first time going to a local brewery in Houston, the atmosphere was nice and relaxing with a nice view of the Houston skyline. Love love love trying new breweries. Houston is a good spot for the craft beer scene. I noticed Holler was close to my office downtown, and gave it a shot. The brewery is brand new (opened within a year of this review), but they know their stuff. The IPA is solid, and you can get a flight to try everything. Nothing too out there in terms of beers, which is both good and bad. I like trying novel beers, but I will never buy a 6-pack of mango habanero DIPA. Holler keeps to more traditional style which means you can relax and enjoy it. They offer free grub on Thursdays from local restaurants. Good food, at that. The staff are really nice too. Holler is much more cozy than St. Arnold or 8th Wonder (both of which I also love). read more

My wife and I had the sample flight which consisted of the following (and this is the order that I ranked them from 1 to 6 (the descriptions are theirs, not mine): 1) Gose: Complex yet refreshing kettle soured ale with coriander, lime zest, and Himalayan sea salt. 2) Pale Lager - Nelson Sauvin: Single hop lager made with fine Nelson Sauvin hops. Notes of grape, white wine, and gooseberry give way to a soft bitterness and clean finish. 3) Hefeweizen: (not listed on website, no description available) 4) Belgian Bubbel: (not listed on website, no description available) 5) IPA: Hoppy and bitter, showcasing modern American hop characteristics. 6) Basic Brunette: (not listed on website, no description available) The brewery itself is located in an office park (several businesses, "metal" building, etc.). There was an outdoor patio, indoor seating, and an area where Cornhole was setup (you had to "check out" the bags from the counter). Came in on a Wednesday night mainly for the "Steak night" -which is by the way, not part of Holler Brewing but works alongside with them- and had an amazing time!! The steak came with some side of noodles and string beans. They were DELICIOUS!!! The food was heaping with flavors and had a good amount of spice!! The beer also compliments the food so well. Fairly cool place. Something I love about their beer are the size options. Someone I went with is not a huge beer drinker, so the $3 dollar 8oz was a nice option. Drinks aren't all that spectacular. There are better breweries. One of the best parts is the outside seating when the weather is just right. We went when there was a food truck there . We have tried most of the small breweries around town and Holler is about average. Got 2 samplers with 6 beers each. Price is on par with other craft breweries in Houston. The beers were ok, nothing I would come back for. Most of the beers tasted the same and similar to what you would make your first time homebrewing. Atmosphere was good. They had a projector screen for watching football (although not one of the most popular games was on when we were there on Saturday at 3pm). I wish I could give this place 4 1/2 stars but unfortunately that isn't an option! We don't go out much now because we have a baby and opposite schedules but we were so glad we decided to check out Holler's steak night the other day. Steak night and breweries are our two favorite things to do and this one did not disappoint. The food was sooo good! I am a beer nerd myself and I've been very impressed with every one of their beers I've tried but I really wish they had more variety of styles on tap. I understand they are trying to feature newer beers but their menu was mostly hops and not much else, which almost deterred us from visiting because my boyfriend prefers the blond/wheats. I came here after one of the nights at Sawyer Yards, and it was super busy. There isn't too much seating indoors and it is pretty limited outdoors too (and not particularly pleasant to sit outdoors in the hot Houston summer heat). I did see several good daily deals that they offered here at Holler, but unfortunately, I just wasn't a big fan of their beer. I went with a couple of other friends and we all felt the same. A lot of the beers tasted a lot more hoppy than expected. read more

Went here a few weeks ago for beers before dinner. Two people, and we each got a flight of 6 beers each so we basically got to try all of the beers that they had on tap (13 total). They were all pretty good and very different from stouts to fruity concoctions and of course some IPAs thrown in there. I would say I wish they had food, but they did have a food truck, and some popcorn to snack on. It may be expensive, but that popcorn is DELICIOUS and the perfect snack while you're drinking. Holler is top-notch when it comes to brand new microbreweries in Houston. I have been to Holler twice now and each time, I enjoy this place more. I try to go at least twice to a brewery before I write a review, this way I have a better basis for what I am saying. I can say that I have been impressed. Both times that I visited, I really liked the beer offerings. Reasonable prices, great selection, half pours and flights are available, with different food trucks out front each time. I tried a lot of beers the first time I went, but the BBQ beer really stood out to me. It was delicious! My girlfriend really liked it as well, but the two people I were with disagreed with us. After speaking with one of the owners, she said that beer was a very divisive beer but that she would probably be offering it again in the fall....can't wait. On my most recent trip, I tried there Marzen beer (and I didn't even have to wait until Oktober). It was delicious. I also happened to go on a night when the running club did their fun run. It starts at 6:30pm and it's laid back according to the leader. After you run, all beers are $4 instead of $5. Killer deal for some great beer. The brewery is also super active on FB so be sure to follow them for new releases and *gasp* even free beer!! It doesn't hurt that I live less than a mile away, but this has become one of my new favorite brew spots in Houston. Gotta check this place out. read more

There's no real Happy Hour. They offer two beers at a lower price between 4 & 6PM, but if you don't like those two beers you're out of luck. In addition, I got the feeling that management pinches pennies way too much!! They serviced me a beer that had a 3" head on it ( all foam). They do have a quaint patio .inside has local art for sale with some elongated tables and a few smaller 4 tops. View to the outside allows plenty of natural light from the plexiglas garage doors and a view of the vats is wide open. They offer 12 beers at a time ($5 pint & $3 8oz.) including their own root beer, sparkling water and nitro coffee. Maybe it was because I was pissed after leaving Platypus Brewing and being treated like crap, but I think they were just delicious. We savored those beers like we'd been dehydrated in the desert.
