I visited on a Sunday afternoon after ordering my meal for takeout. I arrived a half an hour later and they were not aware that I had ordered on the internet. Long story short, I chose to eat the mail there and that was a good choice as the mail was cooked up and served hot. I got a poo poo platter and the chicken fingers contained a very small chicken surrounded by the very large breading. The first bite I took had a crunch to it that suggested cartilage or some other hard substance. The platter also included chicken on a skewer which I assumed would be Teriyaki or some other flavoring but it was just plain chicken that was deep fried and was dry and not very tasty. I'm not one to write reviews and certainly never want to give a bad review but my experience was five on a scale of 1 to 10. When I entered, the staff was sitting at one table by the window and there were no other patrons there. I was offered a plate and silverware but was not offered water or tea. After bringing my food, the waitress return to the table with three other workers and didn't check in on me once. I wasn't expecting first class service but unfortunately I didn't receive the most basic service that one dining at and establishment like that would come to expect at the very least. Anyway, restaurants have good days and bad days maybe it was that I visited and a very slow time a number of hours before dinner time and perhaps the more professional crew comes on at that time. I visited them because the reviews were quite good and they were quite a few reviews supporting the rating and that usually is a pretty good indicator of a good experience to follow. I don't discourage anyone from going based upon my one experience and maybe the only advice I can give is to go when the business is busy such as dinner time. read more

Drove 54 minutes just to have one of THE WORST customer service. Unfortunately, she is the owner too. Requested if she could make one of my hand pulled noodles dish not spicy for my 6 years old child and the owner flat out responded back with "no", no explanation what so ever. The place was disgustingly dirty, the tables were not clean and you can see spider webs everywhere. The food was definitely mediocre. Our orders were: C2 Pork Cooked Dumplings, B1 Stewed Pork Burger, D10 Braised Beef Noodle Soup, D18 Curry Beef Noodle Soup The dumplings were sincerely very disappointing. We asked the waitress if there were any seafood (i.e. oyster sauce) in the dumplings, she said there was no way of knowing as the chef doesn't know as well. Does it mean they don't wrap their own dumplings? I ordered it for myself anyway and really wish I didn't. I have never had dumpling with the wrap so thick (see picture). There were way more dough than fillings. The stewed pork burger were ... dry and not so flavorful, just salty. The hand pulled noodles in the beef soup were too thick, the flavor of the soup and beef were simply lacking. We walked in so excited for the food since it was #1 Chinese restaurant in the area but walked out so disappointed and angry for the very very very subpar food we had. Best hand-pulled noodles in the Boston area!! I first found this place several years ago and I find myself craving their hand pulled noodles time to time. I've tried a few things on their menu including hot and sour soup, Chongqing noodles, cooked dumplings, fried dumplings, beef burger, and sesame chicken but my all time favorite is the spicy hot oil seared noodle with bok choy. The portions huge, the noodles have the perfect texture - not too firm or too chewy. The hot oil isn't too greasy either and I love the hint of tangyness that comes through. I would always get the fried dumplings (fyi fried dumplings are so much better than the steamed/cooked dumplings) and dip the dumplings in the sauce that accumulates under the noodles. I just love how simple but good this dish is! The fried dumplings are very good! They don't soak up that much oil and they are well cooked on all sides. Even though I try to refrain from fried food, these are much better than the cooked! I ordered sesame chicken for the first time today and it was really good! It wasn't too salty or sweet. Each piece of chicken had a crispy coating that maintained its crispyness despite it being smothered in the sauce. The people who work here are very nice and the food has been consistent over the years. The portions also generous! I also got take out here for the first time and the dishes held up really well. Authentic hand-pulled noodles and the best mala pot I have had anywhere, including NYC. When we get takeout, opening the container of the mala pot is like lifting the lid of a treasure chest. All the traditional ingredients are there and the spice level is perfect: enough heat to be interesting and tingly, but not so much that it masks the flavors. The lamb in the the cumin lamb noodles is tender and seasoned with a sublime cumin sauce, resting on a bed of the restaurant's signature hand-pulled noodles. The kitchen obviously cares about their craft. That attention shows in the quality of the food. It's another example of a modest exterior housing an extraordinary kitchen. Really high quality Chinese food. Like wow. I still drive to Brookline to pick up from the same place I've been eating at for 20 years. I've trade others but keep going back, but this place gave them a run for their money! Obviously got hand pulled chili oil noodles after the reviews and OMG. I had fresh Italian noodles but never fresh Chinese and these were like fluffy pillowy perfection. So simple and incredible. Sesame chicken was also great. What a hidden gem!! I got a cumin lamb burger and the lunch combo with spicy hot oil seared hand pulled noodles, boneless spareribs, crab Rangoon and egg drop soup. The cumin lamb burger had huge flavorful pieces of lamb and some grilled peppers as well. My only gripe about the burger is how thick the bread is, but even that wasn't gonna stop me from eating the whole burger before I pulled out of my parking spot haha. Growing up my best friend would make em real thin and that's what I was expecting. The lunch special is such a deal!! You can get an entree, two appetizers and a soup for $9?! Amazing. Only thing more amazing WAS THOSE SPICY HOT OIL SEARED NOODLES. They were soft and bouncy and that flavor was out of this world! Definitely the strong dishes are the noodle dishes - the hot oil sauce, and the meat sauces, are super yummy. You can try both the wide pulled noodle and the thin noodle. This time around also went for the pork with cumin dish - not super impressed, but still flavorful, and nice to see cumin in Chinese food. The Chinese cabbage dish was decent, but a bit underflavored and actually inconsistent texturally (they should ensure that the pieces of cabbage are evenly cut, with equal surface area). read more

We tried the lo mein with hand pulled noodles (8/10), pork fried rice (9/10), general tsos chicken (8/10), beef with black pepper (10/10), crab rangoons (6/10), and egg drop soup (7/10). We would order the lo mein, fried rice and beef again. They were all delicious!!! The General tsos was decent, but the rangoons were not. Too much wrapper with too little filling. I think to me, this place isn't a restaurant that specializes crazy in a specific dish, but more of a "home cooked dish" type of restaurant... hence their name Home Taste. I got their pan fried dumplings, cumin lamb burger, and their xinjiang soup noodles. OVERALL: noodles were definitely the highlight!!! Although the broth was mediocre, I have the say the hand pulled noodles were honestly the best hand pulled noodles I've ever had. Not only are the noodles Al dente it's also so chewy and bouncy! Also, the noodles are uneven... which means that the noodles have been pulled in-house... which makes it even better!! I ordered tonight and the driver shows up asking for cash. I let him know that I paid via credit card on their website. Driver says that it is listed as cash. I say hold on, ill give a credit card. then some guy get son the phone saying he is canceling the order as he is "Too busy" to take a credit card. The restroom has multiple bags of trashes and the toilet was not flushed. The place felt very dirty. The food was just below average. The beef scallion pancake roll was smaller than one I had in Quincy this past weekend as their pancake was much thinner and crisper a specimen. However, the braised beef was scrumptious although they didn't give much of it. This bowl tastes like Cantonese beef brisket ho fun which I love. Spice level is perfect to where its hot but not killing your tastebuds. Mala Pot: These are some big portions. The place was much empty on the inside. only 2 other people in the small dinning room. and it was dinner time on a Friday night. I seems that there are about 5 people working here.
