Daily special - Sour Cream Coffee Cake
    Aerielle S.

They charge an automatic 20% on tip regardless of party size. Not too crowded, but definitely has a lot of business. It was a very homey vibe in here, felt comfortable. I ordered the coffee cake because the waitress said the daily special was sour cream and I was intrigued! Perfectly sweet, crumbly (but not too crumbly) and the pecan flavor really compliments the whole cake. Really enjoyed it! I ordered the Sausage and Fennel Hash, it was good. I thought there were fries on the side but there wasn't any. The eggs were cooked very interestingly. I ordered over medium and only one of the two eggs were over medium, the other was completely cooked. Same thing happened to the eggs in the corned beef hash. I liked that I didn't feel too stuffed and heavy after the meal!

If you want classic diner food in south berkeley this is the spot!!! Extensive menu with some awesome specials as well! :) For an Omlette it was surprisingly delicious and well done! Their homemade jams and salsas were absolutely delicious!!!

Overall, it was a disappointing and dissatisfying experience but it was mostly on the cooks. The service overall was ok, we were seated relatively quickly on a late Saturday morning and were helped quickly. After the food was delivered, no one checked in on us again. The food looked good and I so wanted it to be good. This place has been on my watchlist for a few months and we finally got an opportunity to try it out. Unfortunately, it did not go the distance. My hash was a bit oily and had a bunch of burnt bits in it. Not just black bits, but black, hard, crunchy bits of carbon. The eggs were well cooked, and the turkey seemed juicy enough so that helped. The fried chicken and biscuits were overall disappointing as well. The gravy and egg were quite good and flavorful. The biscuit, their signature item, was doughy and raw in the middle while also being extremely hard on the bottom. The fried chicken was fine but it was a whole chicken breast (not filleted, or pounded thin, etc) and bland. We decided not to get the biscuit beignets afterwards. I'm really bummed because I like neighborhood cafes and will forgive a lot but we won't be returning, especially after the mandatory 20% service fee.

We ordered BABE and breakfast biscuit (egg, gravy on top of biscuit). Both were delicious. They made their own strawberry jam, which was super fresh and not too sweet. I mixed it with iced tea and cream to make an Asian style boba milk tea.

    Double cappuccinos arrived half full.

We really wanted to like the new Homemade Cafe, especially since we frequented the previous spot and hoped to support the relaunch. The food itself was decent--my Fried Chicken Brunch Sandwich and my husband's Biscuits & Gravy Breakfast were fine. But the overall experience was uncomfortable. When we arrived, the server seemed overwhelmed and flustered. We ordered two double cappuccinos that came out half full (see photos). When we politely flagged it, the owner brought over a pitcher of frothy milk to top them off--not ideal. What really made the experience unpleasant was the tension among staff. The server raised her voice at the owner at the register (we were sitting just a few feet away) and continued to be audibly irate in the kitchen. The whole vibe felt tense and hostile. I understand growing pains with new management and staffing challenges, but this just didn't feel like a welcoming or professional environment. Sadly, we won't be back--but I do hope this feedback is helpful as they continue to work things out.

Everyone was very friendly, welcoming and checked on our table throughout our meal. Food was delicious! Great flavor and quality ingredients. Lots of sunlight and local art. Had a sighting of the local turkeys taking a morning stroll.

I went on a Monday late morning and I ordered the corned beef and hash. They told me about a special that was similar to it so I ordered that and it was a really good. It was nice and crispy. The eggs were good as well. I got sunnyside up. Coffee was nice and strong and hot. My waitress was friendly and then there was a guy that came later to check on how was I doing with my food. He had a nice smile. I couldn't tip what I wanted because they add on some kind of gratuity but no big deal.

Homemade Cafe was simply the best! They are now closed down. The service was great and the ambiance was always pleasant, as I've frequented this establishment since I was a kid-- literally for over 30 years. Now they're gone. So sad. Hopefully they pop up again somewhere else. Wishing them luck. The pic attached is one of the good ol' faithful meals: ranch rancheros.

For our drinks, I had the Moonlight Blossom, my aunt had a glass of red wine, and my mom had a cucumber mint spritzer (mocktail as she was the DD). The moonlight blossom tasted similar to cherry limeade. The entrees we had were the mussels, veggie burger, and the chef's market pizza. The mussels themselves were tasty and appreciated that they were able to leave out the chorizo. However, I wish that they brought a spoon and there was more broth. I tried some of my mom's veggie burger and the red color from the beets made it stand out from the usual veggie burger. The fries tasted homemade. I had a slice of the pizza and while I like the ingredients themselves, the combination just didn't do it for me. The crust was good though! We also shared a green goddess salad, which was tasty. The desserts looked amazing but we had no room! Service was friendly and our waitress made good recommendations. Can park on the side streets or the garage. Restaurant was not noisy. Would come back to try other items, especially dessert.

The food also came out pretty quickly. The presentation of the pizza was top notch and I could not wait to dig in. The portion size was adequate. The vegan cheese was yummy and the spice level of the pizza was just right. The pizza was packed with flavor and thin crust! My friend liked the shakshouka too. Wood Tavern met the criteria for a relatively nice American restaurant in North Oakland. We visited for lunch and wanted to make this special for our mom, so we were perhaps a bit overdressed in business casual, but this is Oakland after all. On an ordinary Thursday, there were multiple groups waiting outside for the restaurant to open at 11:30 AM. That in itself should tell you how popular this place is. My wife and I dined at sister restaurant Southie next door a few years ago and really enjoyed it (I also rated it five stars on Yelp), so I was confident Wood Tavern would not disappoint. I initially booked our reservation using OpenTable to link it to my account and get 100 points. Since the max party size for Wood Tavern on OpenTable is four, I had to call to get it changed to eight. Due to the large party size, the restaurant also required me to give them my credit card info and be subject to a $25 per person no-show fee. Upon arrival, our tables were ready for us in the back corner near the open kitchen. The restaurant is true to its name with a shared bar and dining room space that evoke the feel of a wood tavern. Here's what we had: Wine of the Day * Rosé (100% Zweigelt), Stefan Pratsch, Niederösterreich, Austria, 2024 ($16) "N/A Libations" and other drinks * Cherry Bomb! non-alcoholic cocktail ($13) - Tilden Lacewing, Amarena cherry, lime, ginger beer, tall glass * Shirley Temple ($5) * Diet Coke ($5) * Iced Tea ($4) Soup & Salad * Red & Golden Beet Salad x2 ($16 each, one with fish added for $8) - frisee, castelfranco, pistachios, orange segments, Laura Chenel goat cheese, Cara Cara orange vinaigrette Sandwiches * The Hot Pastrami x2 ($25 each) - Emmentaler cheese, Dijon-horseradish dressing, La Farine baguette Old Reliables * Seafood Stew ($32) - rock cod, Manila clams, PEI mussels, calamari, butter beans, fennel, leeks, chili flakes, garlic toast * Pork Ragu Casarecce ($30) - Castelvetrano olives, Pecorino Romano, Grana Padano, chili flakes, parsley * Tavern Burger with French Fries on Acme Soft Bun with All the Fixins x3 ($25 each, two with cheddar added for $2 each) Everything was excellent. As for what to order, I recommend all of the dishes we got. It really just depends on what you like and/or what you're in the mood for. Everyone loved the food. The beet salad was fresh and flavorful, the pastrami was one of the best I've had anywhere, my mom raved about the seafood stew, my brother-in-law gobbled up all of the casarecce, and the burger was outstanding. Service was polite and speedy. Our server Sophia C was awesome. We split one of the salads and the stew, so they came out plated and served in half portions which was nice of the kitchen staff to do.

Unfortunately the food was just as bad and overpriced as the first time, I really don't understand how this place is so well reviewed. We both ordered 310 Burgers, one on the regular brioche bun and one on a lettuce wrap. The lettuce wrap came in two steamed, wilted pieces of iceberg, while the brioche bun was untoasted, foamy-textured and soggy. Both medium burgers had the consistency of boiled meatballs. The bacon jam was decent, but the overall experience was wildly unappetizing. We also both got plain fries, which were somehow greasy and dry at the same time, and instantly turned stale as they cooled down. We really hoped for this place because it's conveniently located, and all the other decent burger spots nearby have closed, but sadly we won't be giving 310 Eatery a third try.

I am glad I took a chance on this place because the whole experience was great. I called a couple hours before and was able to reserve a table for 2. Being unfamiliar with the area I didn't anticipate parking being hard to find, but after circling the block once, we found a spot. We were greeted warmly by staff and quickly seated. The decor was nice; great ambiance; large bar with a lot of tv's (perfect for watching the last game of the NBA finals, as the Knicks won). We both ordered the raspberry lemonade. I have been a huge fan of fresh handmade lemonade lately and it did not disappoint. Fresh, tart and sweet. A little too tart for my GF's taste, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Appetizers were the Millionaire's Bacon and Cheesy Gyoza. The bacon was soooo good. 2 perfectly cooked pieces of thick cut bacon with its sweet, sticky coating that was well balanced and not too sweet. Cheese and Gyoza with bell pepper is a combination I didn't know I needed. It was a pairing that was full of flavor and left us saying "OMG, WHAT THE". Great start for the meal. The Club Moco was calling my name, and I'm glad I answered back. Every element of the dish was cooked perfectly. The gravy was full of flavor and made the dish. Everything together was so complimentary and made every bite so enjoyable. My GF ordered the G.I. Fried Rice. The table side presentation was really cool as it came plated on a cast iron plate and the egg that's usually scrambled and mixed in the rice, was poured around the plated rice allowing you to scramble and mix however you like. I only had a couple bites and can say that I would be happy to order that dish as my main course next time. The mix of the rice, more candied bacon, spam and kimchi was full of flavor. I have never heard of this restaurant and am thankful to Yelp for helping me to look up places so easily where I was visiting. The only thing that surprised me is that I thought that place should have been packed. Service was great, ambiance was great, food was great and the NBA finals was on. I imaging this would be a great place to watch World Cup matches. Highly recommended! Go check it out!

It was absolutely perfect and 100% worth it, if this sandwich interests you please order it you will be happy with your choice. My boyfriend got the KFC waffles. He said the waffle was okay and kinda bland, either that or had no flavor or was dry I forget. But he noted that the chicken was good and made up for the waffle.
