A really lovely experience. This restaurant has a very pleasant atmosphere, almost like eating in a family home, which makes it special from the start. The owners are especially warm and caring; you can tell they put their heart into what they do and how they treat their customers. That kind of friendliness really makes a difference and makes you want to come back. The beer was nice and cold, perfect with the food, and the service was always kind and attentive. And I have to mention the lo mein: simply fabulous, full of flavor and very well prepared. Craving some Chinese food and via Yelp I found Hong Kong Alley. It's in a strip that has Meis Supermarket and Bravo Supermarket. It's a nice sized place with plenty of seating. Great for groups. Service is efficient. We were greeted immediately & seated quickly. We ordered pork fried rice, house special fried rice, general tso chicken, fried chicken wings & steamed pork dumplings. I wanted to love it. The positives, everything came out piping hot. We love when the food is hot and stays hot. The portions are shareable. It looked promising but the flavor was not there. The rices lacked something. The chicken wings also were bland and no color. Color means flavor. Maybe they don't use MSG & they need to. The dumpling wrappers were thick. The pork inside was ok. The restaurant is clean and they have seating for large groups. They have large round tables with a Lazy Susan in the middle where you can share if you want. The eggrolls were phenomenal and very tasty. The special wonton soup was OK, lacking flavor however the wontons were very nicely made, and you can tell that they were handmade. It was scary how quick all the food came out, impossible to cook it fresh and deliver it within two minutes of someone ordering. So I do believe that some of the food is pre-prepared and sitting under warmers, but I'm not positive. It just came out super fast, which is not a bad thing. I just question the freshness. This was my 4th visit and we went for the pekin duck. OMG I have to say it didn't disappoint! It was a rather large portion, enough for 3 adults to eat our fill. It's not super cheap but it's a specialty dish (it's around $49). We ordered garlic baby bok choy, chicken lo mein for my teenager, and crispy pork for my husband. I forgot to take pictures because I was so eager to dive in, but this was the best delivery, "greasy spoon" Chinese food I've had since living down here. I researched for a solid two hours before coming back Hong Kong Alley for our Christmas dinner. We have tried 10 or so delivery spots in East Orlando and usually just stick with one that we know is decent and won't fail us. I've been burned by too many other spots. Well, not this time. Everything was fresh and very evidently hand crafted. The depth of flavor was a pleasant surprise and there was zero need for extra sauces. I still haven't found my northeastern-style egg roll down here, but there's was super crisp and the varying texture and flavors really made it stand out. Hands down the best General Tso's I've had in a very long time. Definitely a worthy spot if you want to enjoy your standard (Americanized?) Chinese food. If you go, you know the owner/hostess/server is super friendly! She's the best. Go just to talk to her alone! The dining room is a bit dated. This isn't fine dining. But perfect for a casual sit down meal. I always get the hot and sour soup. It's very peppery. Too peppery! But I still eat it. I've had several entrees and they've all been very good. Again, this isn't fine dining. It's 5 steps above takeout but not quite Mills 50 if you know what I mean. For East Orlando, this place is just perfect. We came in at lunchtime not very hungry, but basically just wanting some apps. My wife and I ordered Wong Tong soup as well as a few other appetizers on the menu. The food came out very fast and the soup was hot. We also ordered two helpings of the dumplings and those were very good as well. We took home a side of noodles and some fried rice. They both reheated extremely well the next day. This is going to be my go to Chinese restaurant on the east side of Orlando. Service was fast and multiple people came over to remove unused plates and bowls from our table. Don't let the outside appearance sway you from not walking in. This is probably one of the better Chinese restaurant I've been to in the Orlando area. They have menus written in Spanish and the older gentleman is fluent in Spanish. Their food is pretty good, especially the prices and the portions compared to others. Place is very casual. Service is great. Their dinner roll is delicious! The orange chicken has few pieces that's a bit over battered but tasted good. The fried peppered squid is very lightly battered and not extremely salty and topped with aromatic onion and pepper. After a lot of failed attempts at different Chinese restaurants around Orlando , we found a real gem. We love the chicken corn soup here. It is freshly made and served piping hot. When in Orlando, eat as the locals do, at Hong Kong Alley. My brother-in-law ordered takeout for us from Hong Kong Alleys before so I was excited to finally dine in for the first time in late Sept 2020. We were running a little late for lunch so brother-in-law's family went ahead and ordered a few dishes to start. They ordered a few dim sum dishes like the deep fried har gow (shrimp dumplings) and some light bites like the fried spring rolls to start. Everything was pretty tasty, some dishes better than others. I liked the texture of the roasted pork, although it was a little salty for my taste. 30 minutes passed without food being brought out, so we got concerned about the remainder of our main dishes that were ordered. After some complaint, it was discovered that they were waiting for us to finish our dim sum and as it got busy in the restaurant, overlooked firing up the rest of our order. Yikes. The rest of the dishes were tasty - I'm not sure if it was because we were hungry or it was really that good. The beef chow fun and the sautéed snow pea tips really hot the spot! Overall, my standards weren't super high for a Chinese restaurant in Orlando so I was satisfied with the simple basics at Hong Kong Alley, as well as intrigued by other dishes like the fried shrimp dumplings (I have only had them steamed). Decent dim sum place at East Orlando. Very close to UCF. This restaurant seem to at this place for long time. The servers kind know the customer who walk in. I feel like stranger there. If you have yelp check in, 10% discount can be applied to your total bill. The restaurant serve traditional Chinese food and dim sum. We are here just for dim sum. Their dim sum is a big bigger in compare to most dim sum place. We have the fried shrimp ball, shrimp steam dumplings, stuffed eggplant, braised pork rib, pan fry chive dumplings, and fried pork salt dumplings. I recommend the fried shrimp ball. I've only been there for Dim Sum lunch and it was amazing! Found it searching for Dim Sum restaurants in Orlando, and thankful other reviewers had good things to say. It was pretty busy for a Sunday early afternoon. Families, couples, all kinds of people were there. Very diverse diners. The menu had so many options, a huge menu for meat and veg eaters. You could do dim sum for lunch or regular menu or order from both. The pork buns and shrimp dumplings are my favorites. The roasted duck wasn't greasy and pork belly was good but a little fatty for me. My husband loved their BBQ pork, and it was a huge platter of pork! Prices were very good and average for dim sum. The restaurant isn't much in terms of decor, and ambiance, more of a large hole-in-the-wall, family-owned type of place, but who cares when you have great food. I will say the service wasn't good. We had trouble finding our server to get more hot tea and water, and order more dumplings. Another server gave us delicious house made sweet breads rolls to take home with us as an apology. Don't come here for dim sum and expect a fast lunch. Many of the dishes took time, but worth the wait for fresh and hot food. All in all I would absolutely go back! read more

Very impressed by the vegetable fried rice, the best in Orlando (haha!). This is true though. I got some chicken wings, they were good also, and some sweet and sour chicken, not the best but good anyway. I saw a lot of traditional food, and if things taste as good as the fried rice, I definitively will be trying more dishes here. Only downer in my book: no egg foo yung. We went here for a quick dinner after recommendations that this restaurant has some of the best authentic Cantonese dishes. The ambiance is a classic dim-sum style Chinese restaurant w/ a big open floor w/ round tables and Chinese decorations. The restaurant definitely has a VERY BIG menu including western dishes like Orange chicken. We decided to stick to more traditional food and ended up getting the mushroom and duck clay pot. It was well seasoned and included mushroom, grilled duck, and bok choy which is a welcomed edition to balance the dish out. It was cooked in the traditional Cantonese style where the flavor is often more mild compared to other Chinese styles like Szechuan. This is meant to highlight the freshness of the ingredients themselves - and both of us love the duck here! I'm going to do something I've never done before... start a review while I'm actually AT the establishment. We've been intrigued by HKG Alleys Kitchen for a while now. The previous reviews are, well, mixed. Everything from 'the best HKG style food' to 'Major let-down'. So that means we just have to see for ourselves and put in our (up-to-date) two cents. Upon arriving, we realized that, actually, we HAVE been here before. A few years ago, after a cruise out of Miami, we got a take-out when we got hungry on our way back - if memory serves, that's the time when the Lexus key broke in half, and we could not get the vehicle up and running again at a Wawa! Whew what a challenging time (it ended up alright, cuz clearly we WERE able it started again. But that adventure must have sucked up all the memory, as neither of us remembered what the take-out was, let alone whether it was good. It was encouraging upon arrival to see... A) They were busy; B) There were quite a few tables with Asians, seemingly enjoying their food. No, I didn't ask them to stick their tongues out, or otherwise for me to determine whether their taste buds were up to par - we'd know soon enough! We quickly established that they were Cantonese-speaking. The waitress confirmed that, indeed, the restaurant had changed hands, perhaps more than once, but they've been there about 4 years now. The authenticity went up when they asked what kind of tea we wanted (the dumpy dim-sum places don't give you a choice - they just produce a non-descript 'house' tea). When asked, she quickly produced the dim-sum menu: "Only the circled ones are available" she cautioned. When we chatted a bit, she said they now have a 'pretty good' dim-sum chef now. That certainly lifted our spirits, along with expectations. So we did our selection, settling on a few dim-sums that are the shiboleths of dim-sum-dom, a vegetable dish (to satisfy the vegetable gods); we also decided to try their BBQ duck - the 'appetizer' version was only $6.95, according to the menu anyway, but it turned out to be...I'll keep you in suspense till later. As it turned out, the duck came out first, and we marvelled at how big the 'appetizer' version was! We debated: did they mistakenly see that we chose the half duck version ($12.95 on the menu) or were they just being nice to us? In any case, the duck gets a B - nice and warm, but the skin was not that crispy. I mean, I shouldn't be expecting Peking duck type of crispiness, but still... The gai-lan in oyster sauce earns a B-, with part of the fault being summer being somewhat out of season for certain green Chinese veggies like gai-lan and yu-choy: heck, back in HKG in my days, you won't be able to buy it in the summer months, period. It was nicely poached, but a little tough. Surprisingly, there was no 'dressing' other than the oyster sauce; in HKG, it's more likely to be also dressed in oil (sometimes a bit too much). We chalked this up to be the 'healthy' version. Then came the dim-sum: and while they arrive one-by-one, they all earn an unequivocal 'A' - as in 'A' for "an apprentice made these". The har-gow came first, and in retrospect, probably looked the most authentic. Upon tasting, the filling was OK in terms of consistency and freshness, but it lacked the unmistakable hallmark har-gow taste; the skin was doughy. And so on it goes (please see the photos): no matter which one we're talking about, they almost all look "thick" (Cantonese word to describe they didn't look dainty or delicate) - sort of just slapped together. Taste, generally was not much better. None of them really tasted like 'the real thing'. We'd never say that about dim-sum at Chan's, Lam's Garden, or even the deservedly maligned Ming Court (the latter two we've not revisited in a long time due to bad experiences that, in the case of Lam's Garden, turned out to be bad for one's health as well). I think only the fried chives with pork/shrimp cakes tasted above a 'C', thanks mainly to the saving grace of the chives themselves. Further disappointment came with the bill: that duck did turn out to be the 'half duck' version, which we decidedly did not check, But to make it worse, the half duck was priced at $14.95, not $12.95 according to the menu. I know it's 'only' a couple of dollars, but it's not cool. That bad taste-in-mouth notwithstanding, we might still try to come back for dinner one time, or for noodles, with expectations properly managed. read more

This review is based on food only since I called ahead and picked up. I have been searching for good Chinese food since I moved to the east side of Orlando. Hong Kong alley was recommended to me by a friend. I ordered Chicken with Broccoli, Wonton soup,and Beef Lo Mein. The chicken and broccoli was the best I'v ever had. The chicken tastes like chicken! I'm excited to try other dishes. The wonton soup broth tasted so clean with baby bok choy and soft flavorful wontons. My husband finished off all of the Beef Lo Mien before I could have a try. A lovely hidden gem in walking distance of Boardwalk Bowl. This location was once a Chinese buffet that wasn't doing too well. After some time, it was rebranded and remodeled (not sure if it's the same owner). I remember going in once and not being amazing by the atmosphere and decor. The new restaurant is amazing! The food taste so much fresher that what it once was! Honestly, the food here is better than most Chinese restaurant I've been to! The staff here was very friendly and kind. The waitress was polite and helped me with the menu. The food came out pretty quickly and was very tasty. Even the busses was very kind and came to the table to clean and have a nice conversation. My family had a really great experience coming here the other week. My husband works near this establishment so this wasn't his first time, but he really wanted to take us all there. We had two orders of chicken feet (cooked perfectly with the right amount of authentic seasoning/spices), Chinese broccoli in garlic sauce (this was cooked tender, but still had some crunch!), fried tofu with stuffed shrimp (this was SOOO tasty...the tofu was silky), a large steamed tilapia (This was good, my family liked this, but I'm not the biggest fan of steamed fish), dim sum sticky rice, and a couple orders of sesame balls for dessert (my fave). I really want to come back and order some different menu items. When we went on a Saturday afternoon, sadly, it was very empty until two families arrived as we were leaving. Probably my family's favorite Orlando restaurant. Definitely our most frequented. We stick to the Cantonese dishes and save room for the market next door. Service is always an issue for us for a variety of reasons. But the food is solid. The ginger scallion fish is my measuring standard. Hong Kong Alley has been through many transitions and at this current time their cantonese food is probably at their best now. Everything tasted fresh and really tasty. It tastes how its suppose to taste and not mediocre. We got some staples such as mandarin pork chops, salt and pepper calamari, crab soup, water spinach stir fry with bean curd and also a steam fish. The mandarin pork chop was really tasty and tender. The squid could be crunchier but it also wasn't chewy so thats good. The water spinach (tung choy) was surprisingly spicy and I mean spicy. It was good though. The steam fish was 25 dollars for red snapper. It is good and steamed perfect. It is next to the grocery story but they are not affiliated. They do buy some product next store but supposedly they are not owned by the same owner. The Chinese food and service here are really great! They have a lot of chinese dishes on their menu you might find at a more traditional restaurant and the dishes are very well made. The portion sizes are huge so coming here with a big group of friends or family is the best. The place is also slightly classier than an average Orlando Chinese restaurant because they have tablecloths and cloth napkins. It might be because my table spoke Cantonese/mandarin but our service was awesome. Everything was quick and efficient. Our food came out super fast. We had to bother our server about a few things but his attitude was really great the whole time. We also ordered a lot of dishes but our server strategically would bring out plates as we were eating so our table wouldn't be overcrowded. He brought us fresh dim sum he thought we would like - this was probably a really smart move on his part because we mostly said yes to everything he brought. He also gave us free sesame balls because the ones he gave us earlier he said looked a little burnt to him. They do have dim sum here. There is a dim sum menu you can order from with a really good variety of items. I came here on Sunday for lunch and saw about two carts rolling around. The carts did not have everything on the dim sum menu on them so you might be better off ordering straight from the menu. I think the prices for this place are kind of high. The lobster dish I posted in the pictures was $50 for two lobsters which was a bit ridiculous. A meal for 9 people was about $200, not including tip.
