1-item combo with half chow mein and half fried rice and kung pao chicken ($11)
    Jordan H.

I live nearby this area so I finally gave this unassuming neighborhood Chinese takeout spot a try. It is a family-run business in a slightly rundown strip mall off Magnolia. You can get a 1-item combo for around $11 which comes with fried rice or chow mein (you can do half and half) and an entree. The 2-item combo is around $13 and 3-item combo is around $14. They also have soups, specialty dishes, etc. Overall good selection! Service was friendly as I believe the daughter is one of the main servers. I got the 1-item combo and the serving size was very generous. No doubt more food than Panda Express for about the same price. Flavor was good -- nothing amazing (it is Chinese takeout after all) -- but it hit the spot. FYI I'm pretty sure they use MSG as my mouth was quite dry after eating but that's pretty typical for places like this. Hong Kong Express is a common name for Chinese takeout spots, so if you look up the name you will see there are a handful in the area. I am not sure if any of them are connected; however, the location that went viral on social media in Westminister has the same menu style as this location, so perhaps they are related? They take credit card.

I love the food here !. It's LITERALLY the BEST Chinese food in the area! It's always fresh made. It is family owned. My man said its scrum-deli-umcious!

Tried out this place for the first time. I was disappointed, the chicken was not the amount I expected. I also did not like the fee that is charged at the end for using ones debit card. I talked to customer service they were understanding. Ambiance is desolate and a lot of homeless people around that area.

Shout out to whoever keeps the kitchen going in the evening. I stopped by a little late and thought for sure it'd be slim pickings for my dinner. To my surprise, there were plenty of newly cooked entrees to choose from. I went with the 2 item combo priced at $11.99. I chose mushroom chicken and orange chicken as my items with a split of chow mien and fried rice for my carbs. My little styrofoam box was generously heaped with food so much so that it lasted me for two meals - really good bang for your buck. This was probably some the best Chinese take out I've had. The mushroom chicken had a good veggies to chicken ratio because sometimes you get nothing but mushrooms. I also liked that the orange chicken was less sweet and a little more tart than usual. It was a nice change up to your usual orangey chicken. Good flavors all around. Highly recommend if you have a hankering for Chinese take out.

This was my second time coming here with my boyfriend. Today, we got 2 item combo mine had Orange Chicken, Chow Mein, Honey Shrimp. The orange chicken was delicious, great flavor, smooth texture, and easy to chew. I would give it a 5/5 since it's pack with lots of flavor. The chow mein was delicious, but it's a little oily since I'm not used to eating that much oil. I would give it a 4/5 since chow mein was decent but needs a kick for me. The honey shrimp was delicious, great flavor, and easy to bite. I would give it a 5/5 since this and orange chicken are my favorite. My boyfriend got fried rice, chow mein, Spicy Chicken Wings, Honey Shrimp. He would give it a 5/5 since it was very flavorful and delicious. The service was fast & employee is very nice and friendly. There is plenty of parking. The store has a great atmosphere, spacious, and clean. I would definitely come back here if I'm craving for Chinese food!

Hong Kong Express is a great place to get Chinese food. I ordered the 2 item combo and got Orange Chicken and Jalapeño chicken. They were good and the portion size was huge. We made the mistake of ordering two 2 item combos and ended up with way too much. If you are ever in Santa Ana check out Hong Kong Express!

Is this the exact spot that gives you mountains upon mountains of food? No. But does it hit every single time? YES. Hong Kong Express is walking distance away from my house and has always been a classic. I came here on a lunch break to get a 2 item combo, and chose half and half, with kung pao chicken and jalapeno chicken. Orange chicken was out at that moment, since I think it sells out fast, but they do crank it out pretty quickly. I thought the chicken pieces were perfect, since they weren't too small or big. Everything was seasoned super well, even the noodles, since those tend to be bland at these types of spots. The service was great too, as I think it's a family run joint! Visit!!

The food comes out quick and it may not be a Michelin star worthy food but it's definitely a comfort food for a lot of people. Their black bean noodles are a staple but I also recommend the spicy shrimp, sweet n sour pork, and sizzling rice soup. Their jjambbong (spicy seafood noodle soup) is just ok.. Service is great because I think the servers recognize my family but speaking Korean also helps. Unfortunately, I have witnessed some of the servers being kind of rude to other patrons. The servers are just always in a rush. But I always find myself going back whenever we have a big group. Don't expect a nice, clean, modern ambiance. The carpets old, decor is questionable, and sometimes there's a weird smell. But I will continue to go here.

Green beans are flavorful and crispy as well! Hot and sour soup is HUGE. They aren't consistent in making this because some days it's the perfect balance of tangy and spicy flavor, but other times its tooooo sour. The restaurant is very spacious. This helped us get a table much faster than we would have than if we had just shown up and waited. We ordered the large family meal, and there were 12 of us. We also ordered the Newport Lobster, fish fillet with black bean sauce, and an extra shrimp fried rice. Overall, I think the food was good, and the prices are reasonable (except the lobster, which was pricey, as you might expect from anything listed as "market price"). Most of us in the group thought the fish fillet with black bean sauce was the best. I thought it was very good, but not necessarily fantastic. (There are other Chinese restaurants that do it a little better.) The sauce was very good, but the fish wasn't quite as tender as it can be. Definitely a solid 4 stars. Other dishes were good. I think the scallop soup could have been great for some people, but my wife and I both hate cilantro, and there was a ton of cilantro. The pork was also good, and my friends thought the clams were also really good. I found the fried rice a bit bland. And for both the lobster and the crab, they could have made them a little easier to eat by cracking the shells a bit more for us. I hate fighting with my food ... And there was a fair amount of fighting on these 2 dishes. The lobster cost almost much as all the other dishes combined. It certainly looked amazing. And the sauce was very good. But I found most of it a bit overcooked. Maybe it was our fault for asking for a big one. Maybe a smaller lobster might have been cooked a little less. The great sauce (along with the fighting with the shell) might have covered up the fact that the meat was actually a bit tough and rubbery. I don't think I'd order this again. The service was very friendly and pretty fast. And, again, other than the lobster, the pieces were pretty reasonable.

Our family joked around and would say let's go to the travel agency restaurant when we had a craving for Chinese/Vietnamese type of food. I recall the food back then was extra tasty and memorable, leaving me wanting to return again and again. However, my recent lunch outing with my girlfriends changed my mind. Our servers were attentive and friendly. I think it helped that my friend was a familiar customer. We came on a Monday afternoon around 11:30 and It was early enough where parking was still available. We ordered the classic dishes, including salt and pepper fried pork chopsand salt and pepper fried shrimp, but the taste this time around left a lot to be desired. These two dishes lacked the crunchiness and flavors that these fried entrees are supposed to showcase. We found the pork chops to be dry and tough, as if it was prepared a while ago and sitting out for some time before it made its way to our table. The shrimp was not impressive either. At least the shaking beef or bo luc lac was good. The beef chunks were tender, and the flavors were on point. Bonus points for the broth that is complimentary during lunch. Also the complimentary orange slices were a nice touch to end our meal. We'd still return for the lobster and noodle when the occasion comes up.
