Our larger group tried to come in on a Friday night and didn't realize they closed at 9:00. In the recent past, they were open till 10:00. On yelp, after we check once there, said 9:30. Their web site said 9:00. So obviously, we were not in the know. That all said, it's two stars for how we were handled. We were trickling in and didn't really hear him say they closed at 9:00. The first two there already ordered when the next group tried to order, that's when we heard they close at 9:00. As we ordered, then trying to figure out what to do, eat fast or go somewhere else, he could have done a better job to accommodate us or at least offering us what they were able to provide. As others tried to order, saying maybe we should get takeout, he informed us all orders are being made as take out. That's not what I wanted and while some said ok, I cancelled my order. If not for the condiments, it would've been dry. The sweet potato fries were however well cooked, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I did a search on "best loco moco near me" and this place popped up. I was a little surprised, as I wouldn't typically associate loco moco with a burger place, but after reading the reviews on the loco moco, it sounded promising. I had read that they use 100% local range grass beef, and I like my gravy dark, so the photo looked like it checked all the boxes. I called my order in for pick up, and it was ready in 10-15 min by the time I arrived. They're located in Kaimuki off of Waialae Ave. where many other restaurants are. I parked right in the front at the metered parking, but they have a large public parking lot in the back as well. When I walked in, there were a bunch of guys seated at the bar. Apparently they must have a good happy hour! There were also several patrons sitting at the tables. It was busier than I expected it to be. The loco moco cost $14.50 plus tax, which is a reasonable price. They asked how I want my eggs, and I said sunny side up. I was disappointed to find that they made it over easy. The beef patty was not as tasty as I had expected it to be. There really wasn't much flavor to it. The only good thing was the dark gravy. Even the potato salad was just average. read more

These burgers are good quality and quite tasty! Lots to choose from and service is quick! I couldn't choose so I got the sliders which comes with 3 types of burgers. My table also got the hapa fries which is half regular and half sweet potato fries. I think these sweet potato fries are some of the best I've ever had. Burgers are between $15 and $18 and fries are separate. Seating area is clean and nothing fancy. Multiple TVs are set up throughout the restaurant so that's helpful. Decided to go to our neighborhood Hnl Burger company on a whim and I called in and noticed the young lady on the phone was so chipper. This made me want to go in because I was curious if the service would be as great as she sounded on the phone and it was even better! Lana was a great hostess and waitress with an infectious personality. A thoughtful hard worker that is sweet and engaging. Her great service made the food that was extremely tasty even better. We had a happy hour cocktail and a beer, the brussels sprouts with sauce on the side, truffle fries, sliders, a salmon burger and because on Wednesday's kids eat free with the purchase of an adult meal my youngest daughter had her favorite cheeseburger that she promptly inhaled. Was super disappointed with our dinner tonight. Wife and I both got the Teri-Kim Burgers and my son got the Pāniolo. I wanted to have their burgers because I was at the UH game a few weeks ago and I had the Paniolo and I thought it was one of the best I've had. Along with our burgers, we got an order of onion rings and fries. All 3 burgers were overcooked and dry. Kim Chee lacked any flavor. The fries were soggy, as if the oil was not hot enough. The order of onion rings came out with maybe 3 large ones and 3 tiny ones and were not as soggy as the fries but the onion inside seemed undercooked. Super bummed because I love to support local. Weird that a pop up at the UH game would have better quality food than their brick and mortar. read more

Lol! Why have I not written about this place before since they've been at the Beretania location like forever and now they are in our Kaimuki hood. Came in for a chill Thursday night for just some awesome burgers that's like homemade without the grease and mess. We were greeted by a sweet server who asked if we were eating in or take out and very attentive. Of course, since it was our first time at this location we sat in this casual vibe with cool music and three tv options. Our orders included a classic single burger, the loco moco burger and the mushroom burger with coke and onion rings to accompany. You have a choice of buns from brioche, taro or wheat and it's served with lettuce and tomato. It was cooked just right and a decent size. Price point is great! I love that they are unique without being over the top. Love that the burgers are not slathered with so much stuff that you miss the burger all together. It's is the star and it's just right to fill your opu (stomach).... We went away truly satisfied and I'm marking this as one of our family favorite joints... By the way- the reviews on "misunderstood delivery orders"-just come back and give them another chance. Made an advance phone order, nothing big, just 3 standard burgers. It was my first time so I wanted to try this place out. Unfortunately when I got there my order wasn't ready even though it was placed an hour in advance, no biggie, I could wait a bit, but noticed 3 pickup orders who came in after me got their meals first. 2 others who were dining in also got their orders before me. Keep in mind I only ordered 3 burgers and to make matters worse, my hungry 2 year old was with me. She said "hungry" after waiting 30 mins to which I asked the cashier what the status was and needed to cancel if it wasn't ready. The cashier then checked and brought my food out within seconds - meaning, it was sitting there for a while. No apologies from her. As for the burger itself, I cannot tell you if it was good but can tell you the result of one sitting out. The meat was cold, fat congealed, bun soggy and lettuce wilted. Work lunch Wednesday was provided by Honolulu Burger Co (HBC) in kaimuki. We ordered through grub hub and received the delivery food at precisely 12:30 when it was expected to be delivered. Great timing from HBC! In the app I also specified for there to be names on each burger so they didn't get mixed up and each container had the persons name on it, the containers stacked in bags, and the drinks all grouped on top. The whole process was perfection! Now the food, being delivered, was a bit lukewarm as those things go. The burger was carefully laid on a parchment paper sheet as to not soak the bun below. How very thoughtful! I ordered the Teri-kim burger combo with pickles, a beyond burger, on a brioche bun with a side of truffle garlic fries. The patty had a teriyaki glaze that added good flavor but overpowered the kim chee which wasn't pungent. No issue here if you don't want to stink up your house or office. Would have liked a punch of spice with it but to each their own. The impossible party has always been a favorite of mine from here. The texture crumbles like meat and has a good consistency. Not much flavor with this burger because the teriyaki sauce takes over all flavor.The fries were good and certain pieces had that drenched in truffle oil look that you knew it was going to be a crispy crunchy oil bomb of flavor. Picking a star level for this place is hard, and I was somewhat tempted to give a lower rating, but that is definitely biased strongly by cost. Four (not of the fancier variety) burgers, one fries, one onion rings, no drinks, was $88 (after tax and tip). Now the burgers are good. And the ingredients are local - and I love that!! It's local grass fed beef and that is not cheap. They strive to source as much as they can from the islands. The onion rings, again while made in house, are $9 for 7 (2 large, the rest small), and I don't feel those were necessarily worth it. Food prices and commercial rent in Hawaii are pricey, and I know that's just part of eating out here. So I wouldn't discourage you from eating here, and you'll probably like it. It's just that it's a bit too steep for me to be a frequent visitor. Still, I went with the 4 stars because I really do appreciate the local ingredient sourcing. read more

If you like loud country music and overpriced burgers that take 20 minutes this is the place for you. They don't ask how you want your burgers cooked and as a result they were all gray on the inside. Well done and dry. The worst part is that they are literally 2/3 the size of the bun. What put the kitty over the top was we had to wait 40 min for a burger because they "made a mistake" in one of our burgers. Instead of asking us if we wanted the mistake the guy gave it away to a party that came in after us. You're better off waiting in the line at Chubbies. Probably one of the worse burgers I've ever had! The burger was clearly a previously frozen patty that they over salted. My blood pressure must of shot up 30 points after a few bites. The sodium content was so high that I couldn't even finish the burger. It clearly destabilizes the fluid electrolyte balance within my body because I couldn't stop drinking water. The burgers are good here but they are very small. I'm tiny and I need at least two burgers to start to fill up. My faves are the Teri-Kim for $13 and the blue Hawaii for $15. I also make it a combo with garlic or truffle fries for an additional $6. So it's not cheap! Or I'm not cheap. Either way, not cheap. Service is slooooow. It takes forever and a couple of reminders to get any drink delivered to your table. Same with cashing out. Or getting your order taken. We always give restaurants in Kaimuki a try. So grateful to have Foodie Town right down the hill. They source as much of their items locally. That's always appreciated. The Mushroom Mushroom Burger was seasoned well and cooked as ordered. The melted Swiss cheese held everything together and added to three yumminess. Loco Moco Burger was covered in gravy making it messy but tasty. The taro bun paired well with the spam and bacon. Service was fast and friendly. The new location is new so it is clean and the music is good. TVs playing some sports on mute. Because it is a relatively new location, there's a few minor things to work on. Overall, it's a good choice for a burger and great fries. Especially for their lunch special or cheeseburger special in Tuesday. read more

It can get very busy around dinner time so give them about 15-20 minutes to make your order. The classic cheeseburger is my favorite, it has a ketchup/mayo mixture sauce and the hamburger patty is on the saltier side. I also like the burger comes with onions, lettuce and tomatoes. I ordered takeout online, paid in advance, and went to pick it up. My pickup time was 6:30. The employee told me to sit and wait. Ten minutes passed, then twenty minutes. The employee who told me to wait kept walking past me, but all he said was, "Just a moment." I asked another employee to check on my order. They then brought me the takeout bag that had been sitting right in front of me. As far as I could tell, the bag had been sitting there for at least 15 minutes. The food was cold, and I told the employee that it had been sitting there for about 15 minutes and was already cold. The dish was delightful. The patty was very flavorful, I definitely recommend. The taste was wonderful, sooo flavorful! I just love it! Paired with some greens, eggs, rice, and potato salad. Like I mentioned, the patty is my favorite. Everything pairs together so nicely! I rate this dish a 10/10! I also tried the deep fried brussel sprouts, not pictured here. I am not a big brussel sprout fan but surprisingly I loved this! The sauce paired with the brussel sprouts really makes this dish quite tasteful. I definitely recommend you to try it out. The service was great and our server was very nice. The first time I went wasn't too busy but the second time was a bit busier. The environment is relaxed and the bathroom is located in the back. Everything was great my only thing was the burger was either over cooked or press out so much that it was dry and lack the word juicy at all. Remind me of ordering a Jack in Box burger. Do yourself a favor and do not waste your money or calories at this place. This is disappointing to write as I have been a huge fan and frequent customer at the Beretania location for over a decade, as they have had the best burgers on island. Never had a disappointing visit or meal there. But don't waste your time here, go elsewhere to fix your burger craving. Got the Blue Hawaii Burger with garlic fries. The amount of blue cheese in the burger was quite sad. After a few bites and tasting no blue cheese at all, I had to open it up and after closer inspection, there was just a tiny, small smear (see pics) of blue cheese in the burger. To make it worse, the garlic fries added on for $6 to make it a meal, was no garlic at all and just plain regular fries, that were stale and stiff to add insult. Also got a double patty hamburger and had no complaint with that, but the extra order of sweet potato fries were so burnt, it just tasted bitter that I had to throw them out after a few bites. $7 for a sad kid meal sized portion of burnt sweet potato fries. With the amount of moisture in sweet potatoes, it is hard to burn them. Im quite surprised and impressed they managed to burn it, the amount of negligence involved in that must be staggering The root beet drink I had tasted sugarless and flat, as if the soda had been sitting out for a long time. When a fountain soda tastes flat, this usually indicates they do not properly maintain their soda machine. Shows they do not check their CO2 gauge to make sure the carbonation is properly calibrated. Seems like they are riding off the success and name of their original location and they dont really care about the quality control of the food coming out. I can understand shrinkflation and rising costs of goods so prices have to go up, but this does not excuse the extremely poor quality of food and negligence that I experienced tonight. You will get a tastier burger if you skip six dollar cheeseburger night. I stopped by Honolulu Burger Company last week when they had a normal crowd, and was able to customize my burger, and they even asked me how I like to cook (medium rare, please!). Tasty. There was a big sign by the door, announcing a six dollar cheeseburger night on Tuesdays, so we decided to come back and get more burgers then. Unless you're really broke, I would skip Tuesday nights. The place was super crowded and we were told it would be a 30 minute wait (no questions about how I liked the burger - it was going to be the way the cooks made it!) And then when we came back, we were told it would be another 20 minutes on top of that. The wait didn't bother us that night as we weren't in a particular hurry, but I think we'll be skipping the crowd from then on. A little more love and care when the cooks are not slammed. A shout out to the fries, which were pretty good both nights. I would recommend plain rather than the garlic parm, but that's just a matter of taste. read more

Stumbled upon this place in Kaimuki as I was craving a char broiled hamburger. I went to my usual place, but alas, it was Tuesday and they were closed. So my fining partner and I walked up Waialae Avenue and found this place totally by accident. If you're pressed for time, no need to read any further, just know that I'll be back! As serendipity would have it, they have a $6 cheeseburger special on Tuesdays so that was now the plan. We gotbthat along with an order of hapa fries and both were really good. The hapa fries were hot and nicely seasoned and came with a dipping sauce. The burgers were juicy and delicious. Not quite the char-broiled goodness that I was craving, but hotbthe spot nonetheless. The buns were incredibly soft and fresh as were all the condiments on the burger itself. Nothing fancy here, just simple food done good with a great staff. Almost better than some other more pretentious sit-down places I've been to. Paying by QR code was much easier too, rather than having to hand over my credit card.
