What a delightful lunch spot, located in the fabulous East End Market. I ordered the Chicken Avocado Sandwich, which was perfectly scrumptious. This sandwich was a perfect array of grilled chicken, avocado, roasted roma tomato vinaigrette, Asiago cheese, pressed on Cuban bread. The portion size was so filling that I had left overs for later. The ingredients were super fresh, which makes any sandwich super awesome. My daughter ordered the Tomato Basil Bisque, a vegetarian, gluten free option. She pretty much devoured the soup. A sandwich meal will cost you anywhere between 10.00 to 12.00, a bowl of soup will cost you 5.00. The staff was funny and friendly and definitely made my day a whole lot brighter. When I got my food we had to sit outside since we were a large group and there's no seating to accommodate us all. I finally take a good look at my sandwich and realize its chicken deli type slices. Went to see live music at a business next door. All seats were taken, so we ended up getting an outdoor table at Houndstooth. Never heard of this restaurant but their menu looked good. I ordered the cuban sandwich (without mayo and mustard) and a side ($12.00). The sandwich was large and was loaded with ham and pork. I am not a fan of pickles, but the ones used on the sandwich were excellent. The side I choose was the Greek quinoa salad. It was really good since it had lots if feta cheese and quinoa. I'm sorry but this was very disappointing. I had the Cuban, I've never seen someone slice ham so thin. The pork was mushy and flavorless. It made my stomach turn afterwards. This place is sooooo good. I cannot say enough good things about this fresh eatery. The staff are super friendly (dog lovers...a plus) and are very open and inviting. Their food is very flavorful and everything always tastes very fresh. Their menu is delicious across the board, but they also have specials frequently that are very good as well. They do BBQ for specials every now and then and it is very very good, the red bbq sauce is amazing. They have to go sides/soups/salads in the fridge when you enter and they are really great as well. Some of our favorites are the Chicken Salad and Cowboy Caviar. Do yourself a favor and support this great place... you will be happy you did. Anyway, I visited the shop before a community yoga lesson at East End and truly enjoyed my experience. I ordered the grilled chicken pesto sandwich, topped with caramelized onions and mozzarella cheese, and the best part, crunchy Cuban bread. The Cuban in me was overjoyed. East End was not busy, in fact, it was quite empty, but the person who helped me told me to go sit outside and she'd bring out the sandwich for me, which was super nice and went beyond my expectations. Came across this little place while looking for a quick lunch on a Sunday. It's nestled in a building that is being constructed all around them. The building has a few business open already and more in progress. The service was very friendly and helpful for guiding us in what to choose as first timers. My sister and I both got a half of the lemon thyme turkey sandwich served on sourdough bread and I can honestly say that's the best sourdough bread I've had in awhile! The lemon and thyme combination made a nice touch without overpowering the sandwich and it was delicious. I got a cup of chicken noodle soup that was very flavorful as well and I highly recommend. Totally my favorite place to grab lunch when I'm at East End! The sandwiches are HUGE and I've never had anything here I didn't like...or love. The pimento cheese sandwich, the chicken salad sandwich, the tuna salad sandwich, the Pedro chicken melt, you just can't go wrong. I have yet to try their soups but I've had my eye on the tomato bisque. Thy also sell sides like potato salad and their pimento cheese to go. It was originally the large selection of soups that drew us into this stall, but it was the informative and friendly staff that helped us to discover the true delights of Houndstooth Sauces (and which we are craving at this very minute!): the pimento cheese and toasted pretzel sandwich. I took a friend to Houndstooth for lunch. We placed our order, and waited...and waited. When I checked at the counter, the owner curtly said "we're busy" today. 30 more minutes when I checked in again, she realized they'd lost our order. 15 more minutes and I discovered she'd put the order in a take out bag at the counter because it was so late and we needed to get back to work. The order was missing the side salad. Over one hour after we arrived we got our lunch. But the biggest concern I actually had was not the late/lost order, but the lack of an apology, an offer to "make it right" or any kind of service recovery. Here is the skinny folks. I am all about supporting local business so it kills me to say that this place gets a hard pass. The biggest reason is that they just aren't friendly. I really really wanted to like this place. They are walking distance, they have smoke wings & sandwiches...should be a slam dunk. However, I have given them a shot 4 times now & every single time I walk in the staff seems like I am bothering them by giving them my business. Today I walked in with what seemed like the entire staff standing in the dining area & not one of them greeted me. When someone finally came to the register he was very dismissive. Ordinarily I might give a pass because it's super bowl Sunday & probably busy, but honestly this has been my experience every time I visit this place. Terrible attitudes aside, the wings & specials I have tried are great, but the sides are bland & desperately need some seasoning. Had lunch here today after reviewing Yelp options in the area. I believe they recently opened, although you couldn't tell by the very friendly and efficient service. I saw the Cuban on Yelp and had to try it. It tasted as great as it looked, maybe better. The roll was fantastic, crisp crust and fresh underneath. The pork and ham tasted great. They have a sauce on it that sets it apart from other Cubans. It will be hard not to get the Cuban again next time, but I will try the tacos that looked equally amazing. Their chicken salad was very tasty with their signature white bbq sauce. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars.... For our taste, the onions were overpowering. However, we generally do not eat raw onions. We also had a side of the potato salad that had the white bbq sauce in it. Wow...they should sell containers of that sauce like they do their soups. Yesterday was my first time eating here, this place is diffidently worth giving a try. The shop owners and a husband and wife duo from Georgia, the wife is one of the kindest restaurant owners I have ever met! I got the Black Bean Burger and it was one of the best I've ever had! The patty on that burger was amazingly large. Any other black bean burger I have had would have be two patties to measure up to this thing! The white BBQ sauce and Pimento cheese (added as a side) made this a complete burger. I can see why this place is popular with their small cult following. I stopped at East End Market yesterday to pick up lunch for my co-workers and I. They requested specific cuban sandwiches from Houndstooth, so that's where I went. The decor is very beautiful and unique, might I add. When I got there, I was kind of confused because I had never eaten at Houndstooth before. My coworkers had sent me with a list of what they wanted - Cubans, a side, and white barbecue sauce(?) The guy at the counter was pretty helpful. He helped me order our three chicken avocado Cuban sandwiches. They did not have the sides my co-workers wanted, but he suggested a similar one to try and help. I also ordered white barbecue sauce but we never got it. I just left with three sandwiches but that was okay. The sandwiches were great! The chicken was well done, the avocado was fresh, and the Cuban bread was toasted to perfection. I like to run in to East End Market specifically to come to the Houndstooth Sauce Company. I pop in regularly, weekly if possible. I usually purchase a few large containers of soup and chicken salad. All of thesoups I have purchased are excellent as is the chicken salad with white BBQ sauce. We have tried the vegan and turkey chili, the tomato soup, rosemary lentil and carrot ginger soup. All so delicious and with 4 servings per container, very affordable. It's pretty much the best soup you'll ever have for about the price of a can of progresso. We have also eaten lunch here and really enjoyed it. Please consider trying this shop out. I have integrated into my weekly shopping and am enjoying weeknight soup and salad much more than I used to! read more

I like food. I like folks with a sense of humor. So when I say that I adore the approach of the gents at Houndstooth, it's for their balance of quality food and sincere personality. When visiting burgeoning markets like East End, I become a little apprehensive, as if I am not hip or pretentious enough to be a patron. What hooked me was the approachability of the staff, including the lead chef/owner. What sold me was their special of the day: a TBC with BBQ Sauce on a pretzel roll. Anything on a pretzel roll is a coup de grace for me, and my stomach refused to go unheard. My gal pal and I wound up splitting one with a nice chilled cider from Local Roots underneath the picnic tables outside. The sandwich was a great size for sharing, or if one is a bit hungry and feeling rather indulgent. There was no scrimping on the turkey or bacon, but it wasn't drowning in cheese or sauce either. With a lunch special, I'd personally like the offer of a side to be included in the cost (as they had plenty of tasty potato chips to choose from. Also, they had plenty of delicious sounding sauces in their cooler case, but without samples available, I'm a little hesitant to commit to something I may not like. This is partially my own fault for not being bold enough to request a sample, as I am fairly certain that if I asked, I would receive. The staff are personable and friendly. This eatery is located in the East End Market area. Nice little shop and I decided to give them a try for lunch. I got the Chicken Salad Sandwich with all fresh made ingredients, it was absolutely awesome. I have not had a chicken salad sandwich to compare in years. Ive only had their Brisket Taco and their Egg Avo Toast. The brisket taco didn't do anything for me. The meat was too sweet and the tortilla needed to be (more?) Toasted. So this review is more about their Egg Avo Toast. Ive had it about 10 times now and it's HANDS DOWN the best egg avo toast I've ever had. Most Egg Avo toast tastes the same, and thats pretty bland. Usually they put a fried egg on top of avocado toast. At Houndstooth, they make an egg salad but INSTEAD OF MAYO they use AVOCADO. It's ab ingenious idea, and it makes it all go down that much better. Its creamy but also hearty because of the egg mixed into the avocado. And if you're really feeling hungry, get it with cheddar and bacon added. Best breakfast or snack ever. Also their bagek with himade cheese is amzing. read more

Our long awaited visit to the East End Market happened this weekend. What took us so long? After checking out all the shops and tasting many yummy freebies, we settled on Houndstooth. We lingered there as we tasted a variety of sauces, and eyed the variety of soups. When I saw the short rib taco, I was sold. My husband went with the roast beef, Swiss, with horseradish sauce and rosemary. YUM to both. Portions were large, and we took our leftovers home, and had them as part of dinner. Each of us thought our dish was the best. I can tell you that I recently partook of pricey $48 short ribs at a high end place, and the houndstooth short ribs win! hands down. We scored a seat at the Local Roots bar where we enjoyed some beer. I had a cucumber beer of some sort.. It was so very refreshing. We left veery happy and carrying a bag of bread and cookies from Old hearth Bakery. We stopped across the street at P is for Pie, and gathered more desserts!
