Came here with friends from work for Happy Hour. Located on PCH, it's a non-descript place, no huge signage. There's street parking on PCH and a small off street parking lot behind the gastropub. For fans ofTop Chef, this is Brooke Williamson's place. There's a happy hour menu which is good til 7pm. From the happy hour menu, we ordred a couple orders of the kale grit fritters (one of our favs), toasted pretzel bites served with beer cheese, fried chicken sliders, and off the menu, brown sugar ribs (another fav). Selected beer on tap during happy hour is half off! And there's also a few specialty cocktails on the happy hour menu as well. Hudson House is a cool neighborhood gastro pub. This is my second visit to the Hudson House (HH), and both times were for Taco Tuesday. Taco Tuesday is from 5 to 11 PM every Tuesday (bar is open until midnight though). My date and I were in and out of this place in less than 30 minutes. We ordered 6 pollo Street tacos, 4 carnitas street tacos, 2 vegetarian street tacos(why not try it), and 2 Tecate cans of beer with lime. Sidebar: the taco pricing must have changed at some point because it used to be $1/pollo/carnitas taco...and now it's $1.50/each. That being said, the price is still right and I cannot really complain. So for about $25 we were left satisfied for a quick and fun meal. Now, there are additional food items available to order, and a couple dozen signature drinks (looks like whisky options a plenty) to chose from if you are wanting some variety. HH as a bar is great. The low lit bar right off HWY 1 has room for about 60 or so people with a fun and neighborhood feel to it. Oh, and there is a photobooth in the back near the restrooms if you need to capture the night off of your cellphone. Friendly staff, easy street parking, laid back crowd, 90s feel good music (ODB, Erika Badu, Big Daddy Kane, Beastie Boys) make Taco Tuesday the right choice. read more

I ate at Hudson House for dinner and was disappointed with our food and service. We ordered three hamburgers and salmon with kale salad. Two hamburgers arrived overcooked, the salmon was bland, and the salad was overdressed. We should have sent the hamburgers back, but we wanted to be respectful. The third burger never came out of the kitchen. I flagged down the waitress, and she said she would check on it. Ten minutes later, I was finally able to flag down my waitress again because we were still missing our food. Everyone else had finished eating, and the other food was so disappointing we just gave up and got the check. read more

I've have been visiting Hudson House for about 7 years now. Tonight was by far one of the worst dining experiences I have had to date. My wife recently gave this place a glowing 5 star review after an improvement in overall quality since the change in ownership. Service is usually on par for the atmosphere and pricing. Tonight there was a noticeable decline in both the quality of service and food while the cocktails seem to be the only constant. We had a reservation for Friday at 5pm, the hostess chose to seat us in an empty room next to an occupied table that had a coughing young child. In the interest of enjoying our meal without getting sick or intruding on a family that was already in a tight space, we requested to move one empty table over. With some attitude she explained that the table was reserved for parties of 3. Over 50 mins passed, in that time we ordered one round of slowly made cocktails and "spicy" honey wings. The wings were more depressing than the safari hat that the hostess was wearing. No spice to be had, and the unseasoned wings were drenched in what can only be described as condiment honey. At this point the hostess sat a party of 2 at the table next to us that she claimed was reserved for parties of three. This was after the unfortunate mistake of ordering another slow round of drinks and awful sliders. Where the wings had no spice the sliders seemed to be aggressively spicy/soggy. There are plenty of great dining options in Redondo, and Hudson House used to be one of them. The service was rude and inattentive, the food was sticky and bland, and the seating options were claustrophobic (despite plentiful empty seats elsewhere). It's honestly super disappointing, and we won't be back. The hostess in the Jungle Cruise hat really made this a terrible experience. read more

Hudson House used to be one of my absolute favorite places to grab dinner and a drink. My wife and I stopped in tonight at 9pm (normally a busy hour) for the first time in about a year and the place was deserted. I had to ask the staff if they were open. I missed the story where the chef decided to completely throw out the old menu and start over to stay "relevant". What a disaster. I had to google Hudson house to find out what the hell happened - the best part was that they brought the burger back after a public outcry. But, they didn't bring back the original burger, they still messed with it. Hudson always charged a lot for their beer, but the whiskey selection was awesome. On the menu tonight, I saw a hazy IPA from modern times for $11... are you kidding? If the dead restaurant on a Friday night is any indicator, it seems like everyone else has bailed on the owners new concept. Since my last review I have pretty much become a regular and would love to update especially after my experience a couple days ago that seems two people left 1 star reviews on the same day. It's so disappointing to see people leave false negative reviews for local bars and restaurants. "Emily" & "Mike" were part of a group that decided to have their children running around like the restaurant was a playground and after the waitress nicely asked them to keep a better watch of their kids since it was starting to get busy. They proceeded to berate the waitress and then the owner and yell at the rest of us around sticking up for them. And instead of telling the truth about it they come on here and leave 1 star for the food. People like that completely damage the integrity of Yelp reviews. We were here a couple of weeks ago and liked the place . We returned this last Saturday and had a completely different experience! The bartender was so stoned that he couldn't even remember our drink order once he was in front of the register ...( the bar was empty by the way) he took our drink orders one at a time . The Emerald Abyss that I had loved a couple of weeks before was so disgusting , and my daughter hated her drink so much that she never touched it again after tasting it the first time. The bartender never even noticed the drinks he made were awful and he never asked if we even liked them or wanted something different. How could he? He was too high to notice anything, much less his customers not enjoying the expensive "cocktails" he made. The black rice was soggy instead of the crispy one we had tasted before. Everything was ridiculously salty ! Brooke , I'm not sure if you're too busy with your other restaurants or you just don't care about this establishment anymore., but your reputation as a " Top Chef" is at stake here ! When was the last time you tasted the food that is coming out of this kitchen for consistency? As far as your bartender.... everyone has the right to smoke a joint here in CA ..... just do it on your own time ! Don't ruin my evening out and waste my money ! I wish there were more places like Hudson House in South Bay! I've been there a number of times now, the most recent trip being last night when we dropped by for a post-tennis nightcap and snack. It was decently busy for a Thursday night (around 9pm) with maybe half the seats taken, so we easily grabbed a table. The restaurant was fairly loud, but it was still easy to carry a conversation. Our server was really friendly and fast, and we were very quickly both sipping on Bitter Reds, which tasted like a really sweet Old Fashioned. I then ordered another bourbon cocktail (unfortunately the name is escaping me, but it involved strawberries) that was also tasty but very sweet. My bf ordered the Smokey Bourbon, which I really liked (and wasn't sweet), so I'll probably order that next time I'm there. We only ordered the Mussels + Clams since we were just there for a snack. But we liked it so much that when we finished eating, we promptly ordered a second order of the exact same dish haha :) The tomato based sauce was amazing, and I love how they give you a giant chunk of really good quality bread to dip in the sauce. read more

They have a seasonal menu, so be sure to check to website to see what they are serving at the moment. Had dinner there last night and the hot chicken sandwich was the best chicken sandwich I have ever had - I highly recommend it, just know it is veryyyy spicy, even without the habaneros. When I heard about this place through Top Chef I immediately wanted to check it out. They more than lived up to my expectations with their inventive drinks and delightful food. I would be superbly happy to be a regular here! I came here on a Friday night with my sister and my boyfriend. We totally lucked out and grabbed 3 open seats at the bar right as we walked in (it was completely packed). We went family style on everything and ordered: Roasted Brussels Sprouts & Burrata: I love how Brussels Sprouts are trendy now. These were cooked to perfection, slightly crispy and an excellent accompaniment to the burrata. Mac & Goat Cheese: I was a little worried about the goat cheese overpowering this dish, but happily surprised by it's subtlety. You could actually taste the mushrooms and peas, with the goat cheese in the background. This is very rich, so I'm glad we shared. Lamb & Paneer Meatballs: these were good but not great. The meatballs were cooked well but the flavor of both the meatballs and sauce were a bit bland. Hudson Pretzel Burger: best dish of the night! The burger was cooked on the medium rare side, dripping with flavor and super tender. The pretzel bun was super yummy, adding a bit of extra saltiness with every bite. Strawberry Shortcake: not overly sweet, with a nice spongey texture and an airy whipped cream. Very tasty! Warm Chocolate Chip Cookies: yes, we ordered both desserts (#whatdiet). The cookies were great but honestly how can you mess up a chocolate chip cookie? The bourbon milk stole the show here. We ordered way too much food - 3-4 dishes would have sufficed for 3 people. We also ordered a few drinks - the Breakfast Old Fashioned was my favorite. This is literally a traditional American breakfast translated into alcoholic bliss. Drool... I was also really impressed by the prices here. Gastropubs tend to run up their prices, but that's not the case here. THE RESTAURANT - THE MSG HOUSE - The food gets negative stars due to MSG use. Save the MSG for the fast food chinese restaurants in Chinatown. I wonder what type of MSG recommendations the owners will put in their cookbook? I wonder how much MSG seasoning the owners put in their own food at home? I'm guessing none. But apparently it's allowable to unknowingly give it to their PAYING customers. I messaged about 20 customers and found out that they had no idea that they were using MSG but had their suspicions based upon being pretty thirsty after eating the food. The FOOD (it all has MSG): Whether it's because of the FDA's Ok or Anthony Bourdain's welcoming the use of MSG, chefs seem justified, especially the ones crossing into the asian fusion or food scene, to bring out the "Umami" with what I consider, and this is my own opinion, "a chemically induced" seasoning to enhance the taste. I was pretty shocked about the admission at the bar and was surprised to find out that the owners weren't asian. I'm asian and had typically only seen MSG in asian kitchens. I was wonderfully surprised at just how good the food was there a few years ago. I also liked the food at Playa provisions but now I have to reconsider b/c of the MSG use. I've honestly been sick from the from the food here more than once, and I feel the culprit is the MSG "Monosodium Glutamate". I'm more sensitive to it so it's not going to affect most people or be harmful. I think that If you can't make the food "good" from using naturally occurring herbs and spices, salt, etc., than you should disclose that on your menu and possibly consider getting into another domain outside of food services. Again this is just my own opinion. Use what natures uses, not a cheap lab created derivative of it. I'll definitely be back at the bar, but will never eat the MSG chemically laced food here. Giving kids food that is laced with this seasoning that is un-natural maybe be linked to learning disorders as well so keep your kids away from the food here. Do you research. WTF did you do to the Pretzel Burger?!?!? Arguably the best burger in the South Bay at one time. Why mess with success? If I remember correctly, it had a wonderful white cheese. Now it's covered with processed Velveeta! It used to have mixed greens and/or arugula for added flavor. Now it just comes with a limp piece of butter lettuce. The patty had no flavor, just way too much salt. The plate was covered in grease. The buns look more substantial, but not the soft, yummy buns I lovingly remember. I'm also not too keen on the new fries. Should have kept the garlic/truffle. I'm all for keeping up with trends & trying new things, but might want to keep a few "classics" that Hudson House is known for. Having come in for an incredible burger, I was very disappointed. It looks like Happy Hour is the best time to go, if not you're looking at cocktails that can get up to $12-$15 each. Think more along the lines of a national bar snob that has a list of the 10 best bars in every notable American city had a cocktail at Hudson House and named it one of the best cocktails he's ever had. That's what we're talking about here. Lets talk about the Pennyroyal Tea. Monkey Shoulder Scotch, Earl Gray, Maple, Regal Grapefruit, lemon. $13. But you know what, it really should cost more. I've had worse drinks for double the price at more pretentious places. This cocktail is a god send. It is a masterclass in measurements, flavor balancing, and spirit forward excellence. If Anthony Bourdain were to rise from the grace tomorrow I'd feed him a lamb Osso Bucco and this fucking cocktail. It's sensational. You feel it through your entire body. I did a double take while drinking it. It's perfect. Simply perfect. I wouldn't change a single thing about it. And the fact that it was served by Maddie, who is simultaneously the friendliest, most sincere, and beautiful bartender I've ever had the pleasure of speaking to practically ensured I'd never ever forget it. My night notably improved the second I took a sip. Nothing was the same. Hudson House, I take you very seriously now. I love you. Mychal was an absolute treasure as a server. I had the fish and chips and in the notes I had asked for salt and pepper, tartar sauce and malt vinegar. I got my fish and chips and that was it. Not even a token spoon or knife.
