They just opened up their dining area again back in June and I'm so excited because we've always just ordered take out since it's been closed due to covid. This is a family owned business and if you go during the weekends (I've haven't been during the week), you'll more than likely be greeted by the owner's daughter's, Lillian, warm smile. She's very welcoming and very patient if you have any questions about anything on the menu! Our go to has to be the fan Tuan with purple rice add both egg and pickled. It's so good that my boyfriend looks forward to it as a weekly end of weekend treat to ward off the Sunday scaries. My grandma and mom will also never say no to fan Tuan from Huge Tree Pastry - that's saying a lot! 3 purple rice fan Tuan with egg and pickle will run you $24.64. Is it a bit pricey? Sure, but what isn't nowadays? Does it taste delicious and is it worth the money? Definitely. Especially knowing that it's supporting a small business and you're getting quality food. Coming from Norcal, I love that they have more of these simple, no frills Taiwanese spots that don't overcharge. This is my second time returning here! You can't go wrong with their fan tuan. I've also tried their xiao long bao, but the skin is on the thicker side, so it's not really my favorite compared to other spots. Service is usually quick and efficient. 4.5/5 Maybe it's because there's not good (let alone reasonably priced) Taiwanese breakfast in my usual area, but I really enjoyed Huge Tree Pastry! We came by early on a Sunday morning before church and were able to quickly pick up a delicious, well-packed order before leaving LA. There was plenty of parking in the small lot and the employee behind the counter greeted us warmly when we walked in and perused the menu. It seemed like she knew the customers in front of us and was catching up with them on life, which seemed very home-y, but she was also attentive to us and we didn't have to wait to get her attention when we did select what we wanted. I believe they accept cash only. As we were prepared to eat on the go, we picked up a few soymilks and fan tuan for our party. The soymilk was so good that we wished we'd ordered the large 32oz cups (~$5-6) instead of the small 16oz (~$3-4)! It's freshly pressed and tastes authentic like that of my childhood, and you can also choose to have it sweetened, salty, or no flavor (hot only). The soymilk is served in a nice styrofoam cup with a straw and when taken to-go they take care to place a piece of cardboard on the bottom of your bag too so the cups don't tip and leak. Fan tuan options included purple or white rice, salty or sweet, with option to add eggs and pickles for a few dollars. We got the salty fan tuan with all the works (~$7-8) and the flavors and chewy textures were just right! There was plenty of filling and not just an excess of rice, and the fan tuan were wrapped tightly. Some of our party also tried the beef roll (a little expensive at $10.95 but flavorful) and baked sesame bread with beef (~$5, this shao bing was crispier and less doughy than I expected). I think there was a bit of sparse seating inside so not much to speak of in terms of ambiance, but most people just got their items to-go. There was also a small selection of items behind the counter in case you'd like to look at the different buns or side dishes also sold. Overall not extremely cheap, but decent prices and yummy, well-made Taiwanese breakfast that hits the spot. Would love to return! read more

My personal favorite was the egg green onion pancake, they also include all the different sauces for takeout orders. The minced pork over rice was a huge portion and included egg and the classic pickled Taiwanese veggie 酸菜. Still was amazing and the large cup is massive, enough to share between 2-3 people. The only reason I'm docking a star is because the fantuan didn't taste fresh, it was a bit hardened and the donut on the inside wasn't crispy. It's take-out only currently as of February 2024 and the staff seem to have the process down. It's cash only, too. We ordered at the door and waited about 5-10 minutes for 5 items. We got the Pan Fried Green Onion Pancake $4.75, Pork & Vegetable Bun $1.99, Pan Fried Radish Cake with Egg (4 Pieces) $6.75, the Taiwanese Donut (You Tiao) $2.25, and a hot sweet soy milk. My boyfriend and I couldn't wait and ate most of the Taiwanese Donut on the way home because it was piping hot, and enjoyed the rest of the rest of the items at home. All of the items were hot and had a great first 'bite' but got a little less flavorful as I ate it. I was a little disappointed with the Pan Fried Green Onion Pancake because it was a little overdone and dried out. All the other items made up for it though! My favorite thing was the sweet soy milk, it had the perfectly velvety feel to it when I drank it and was sweetened just how I like it. The item I forgot to get is the fan tuan (a rice roll), which seems to be a fan favorite when I reference some pictures. This place can get busy, and at 12:30pm on a Tuesday, maybe on the tail end of lunch, there were about 10 people waiting for their orders, but the time it took me to line up and get the food was also less than 10 minutes. I overall enjoyed the fan tuan. The egg makes it more filling and the pickles were not too tangy but provide a sharper flavor to the fan tuan. The rice itself is fairly sticky, not too oily, and has a bit of flavor to it that complements the youtiao (fried donut) and pork floss. FYI this place is CASH ONLY and takeout only. What could be better is that they give an order number to call. I observed a few issues where the worker named an item and just leave the bag on a chair if no one responds until the worker makes another round, but what if 2 or more people in different parts of the queue order the exact same item which can happen to popular orders like the fan tuan? The onion pancake was too tough for my liking and not flakey (forgot the price); I probably would not order this again. I ate my second rice ball and the curry pastry the next day (left on counter without refrigeration). The rice was harder, as expected (I didn't heat it up), but still good, and the curry pastry wasn't flaking anymore but it was still delicious. Out of this meal, I would repeat my order for the curry pastry. There were other classic items on the menu that I would like to return to try.
