Ugh I'm pretty generous with my reviews but this was just not it. Walked in on a whim while searching for lunch, service wasn't really there but I don't mind usually if the food is up to par (it wasn't). Got a lunch platter that had falafel, mujadara, a salad, hummus and pita. Everything was bland, salad was clearly pre made as it was soggy and unappetizing. Falafel was extremely under on the inside. Mujadara was not the mujadara I've had in the past...pita bread felt store bought. Had a lemonade with mint which wasn't too tasty felt really really sugary. I know the pic looks good but I ended up eating a quarter of it. The bathroom is right beside the pass for the kitchen which is very very strange and felt unclean. Saw a line cook test someone's food with his fingers to see if it was still hot while I was waiting to use the toilet (it was definitely dead in the pass but they sent it out). They sat me on the bench which was very uncomfortable. read more

I stumbled upon Hummus Kitchen by chance. It was lunchtime, so I decided to try it out. I'm really glad I did because the red Mediterranean chicken was one of the best dishes I've ever had in Hell's Kitchen. It came with veggies, hummus, rice, and pita, all incredibly fresh. Really love the falafel lunch platters here and the pita is so delectable! Service was very kind. What I don't love is that they fully enclosed their outdoor seating for the winter, making it unsafe for disabled people who can't risk catching Covid to sit and eat there. Great little place! I have ordered from them a bunch of times, but dined there for the first time in January for a colleague's bday lunch. The server was friendly and helpful with all our questions. Their menu is presented in a tablet. Generous portions of delicious food arrived quickly. We each ordered something different and there was plenty to share and bring back to work for snacks. Dessert was delicious - our server even brought one of them with a candle and sang happy birthday with us. A few ordered tea, but our server warned us it was Turkish coffee when we asked for one, which was really sweet. Fast forward to mid-March when I brought my cousins from out of town to a late dinner. We arrived 4 minutes before the kitchen was due to close, but they were still warm and accommodating. We were conscious of the time, but they didn't make us feel rushed through our meal. One cousin ordered the shawarma taco, another ordered the hummus kitchen, and I ordered the mushroom hummus, all made fresh. Again, we had enough for leftovers. Fast forward to two days later when I brought another set of cousins from out of town. This time, we arrived way before the kitchen was set to close. The restaurant was packed and we were seated at the last available table. We had the same server from January. One cousin ordered the charred eggplant, I think the other had sirloin hummus, and I ordered my usual - the mushroom hummus. Again, the portions were generous, and though my cousins finished their meals, I had plenty for leftovers. They shared a dessert with pomegranates and two of us had the Turkish coffee (again with words of caution from our sweet server). The check arrived and it was a fight on who would pay - the server even joked with us during this (awkward) moment. Long story short, each of my experiences here have been consistently amazing. The portions are generous and reasonably priced, service comes with a smile, the music is pleasant, and the vibe casual and warm. My cousins, who visit several times a year, have added this to their list of restaurants to frequent. Definitely a must-go. read more

Nice spot to get a few small appetizers and some drinks. The falafel was very much like greek falafel - not super green and didn't pack a huge punch of flavor but had a nice crumble and density to it if that's what you like. I prefer a a greener falafel. The babaganoush was actually my favorite item, and I normally don't go after it. It was creamy, bold, smoky. Dolmades were also excellent, and had a great soft texture with a nice contrasted crunch from the sweet pomegranate seeds. Highly recommend. Hummus was good, just heavy on the sesame paste side flavor-wise compared to some other spots. Their mint lemonade is refreshing but it does suspiciously taste like powdered lemonade? I had the Mazze Trio of hummus, grape leaves and quinoa tabuleh + pita. Probably the best grape leaves I've ever had: warm, like butter in the mouth. Not a lot of vinegar or acrid flavors often associated with grape leaves! I touch of heat too! Pita was like none I've ever had before.... Light, airy, full of pockets and so warm and soft. I'm upset with myself that it took me so long to try Hummus Kitchen! This place is fantastic. I came on a whim with some friends, and we all had a great experience. We started off with the eponymous hummus, served with their fresh pita bread. Definitely don't skip this; it was a perfect introduction to our meal. For my entree, I chose the chicken couscous. My fiancee and I had our favorite dinner of the whole trip in this restaurant on a snow-y Sunday night. There are a few locations in NYC but this was the closest to us and I'm so glad it was! It's charming inside with just a few tables (probably 5 or so with seating for 15 or 20 total) but it wasn't busy when we arrived with a little over an hour before close. Our server was super friendly and we immediately had cold water on the table and the iPads they use as their menus. They have a large selection of foods and drinks on the menu so we didn't want for options. I chose a mint tea which was the only letdown of the meal - somewhat hot water with a tea bag no fresh mint as listed on menu.... booo. My fiancee chose a winner which was the LEMONANA drink a fresh lemon and mint slush. Sweet and refreshing. YUM! We did the Mezze choose three for the table at $23 and went with hummus, lava beans (server said served warm but they were def. cold), and mediterranean chopped salad of cucumber, tomato and onion with mint and parsley (always a fav of mine). The hummus was legit delish. Slightly warm and so so smooth and delicious with warm pita bread. It was the hit of the night. We split the chicken shawarma dish for $20 with rice and really enjoyed it. For dessert - I chose the LOCO MOROCCO for $8 which was a chocolate mousse cake, toasted warm shaved coconut and whipped cream over dark chocolate sauce. Large portion and soooo good! I'm pretty sure I've been to Hummus Kitchen before when I was living in Hell's Kitchen, but some friends and family were visiting in town ( party of 7 at noon on a Sunday) and wanted a good spot near the theater they had a show to get to afterwards. All being members of the tribe, Israeli/Mediterranean was the cuisine of request, so we landed on Hummus Kitchen, and a great choice it was. It's on the smaller side, but not atypical of other spots around the 9th ave line of great eats. It wasn't too busy, when we got there, so service was great and very attentive. We decided to order several apps (mainly hummuses lol) for the table and go solo on entrees. Apps: Chickpea Hummus - creamy hummus topped with it's original form. We needed a baseline hummus and, like the others we orders, it's delicious. Fava Hummus - creamy hummus with Egyptian fava beans, hard boiled egg, and tahini. Fanastics. Shawarma Hummus - creamy hummus with, well, shawarma, and onions. with the pita that accompanied this, you could pretty much make your own shawarma pita sandwich. Great. Trio of Mezzes: 2x falafel, 1x babaganoush. The falafels were perfectly crisp and we were all very tempted to order more, and the baba was arguably as good as slew of hummuses we sampled. Entrees: While already pretty stuffed on the apps and mezze's...go big or go home I guess (and always down for leftovers). Some of the entrees for the party included: Mediterranean Red Chicken - this was my dish and it was very interesting; very tender broiled chicken, accompanied by red peppers, lemon, cilantro and garlic in a hot pan with a side of majadra rice and served with Moroccan frena bread. very tender, had a bit of a mild hot-sauce/Frank's tang to it, all in all, very uniquely tasty dish. That frena bread is so light and delicious too! Chicken Couscous - Slow cooked chicken, raisins and cinnamon on couscous and assorted vegetables - both my mom and another person got this dish, and the smell was intoxicating. A mix of a little sweet with the savory with the raisins; the chicken was so tender and moist, just a really solid dish (as noted in the Yelp recommended/popular selections) Other folks got the chicken kebabs, the seni'ya laffa, and the shakshuka...and all look like great choices too! We didn't dabble in the drinks/desserts (part of our party had a show to get to), though the Turkish coffee was very tasty and they have an assortment of teas that looked very good (it was a rreeeeeeeal cold day lol). All in all, Hummus Kitchen offers some great Mediterranean/Israeli eats and wouldn't hesitate at all in returning if I was in the area. read more

Top notch hummus and pita with super friendly service! I ordered the Shawarma Laffa (a wrap), which had chicken with grilled onion, hummus, and chopped salad in it. Not much more you can ask of a wrap - the chicken was flavorful and savory, which complemented the lighter veggies inside. The hummus inside was also a nice touch to this tasty wrap. The portion size was pretty big, which made the $17 price reasonable. For checking in on Yelp, we also got a free mezze hummus, which was really good and smooth and a surprisingly large portion for being free. There were chickpeas, sauce, and herbs on top with some oil which made it quite photogenic for a bowl of hummus. Also, the pita that came with the hummus was so soft and fluffy! The restaurant itself is cozy with an intimate warm atmosphere. There is also some tasteful, Middle Eastern-type decor around the interior. The staff are super friendly and attentive. The service speed was pretty quick. Overall, Hummus Kitchen is a prime spot for hummus lovers and those who enjoy Middle Eastern food.
