We are pretty fond of Middle Eastern cuisine and we were pretty curious about a place called Hummus Kitchen. With 3 different locations in Manhattan - Hell's Kitchen, Upper East Side and Murray Hill - we decided to visit the one in Hell's Kitchen this time...and we simply loved it. It's a small place, with around 20 tables, a small façade, a very welcoming environment with gorgeous brick walls (yes, we're into brick walls, lol), and an extremely outgoing and polite staff. We got there around 12:30pm and in no time the place was full, plus the delicious smell from the kitchen started subtly invading the entire place - don't worry, it doesn't stick to your clothes and hair....! We tried several different Vegan dishes (see picture), like: - Super-Healthy Salad - Quinoa, apricot, cranberry, walnuts and charred beets with fresh lemon juice and mint dressing - Charred Beets - Tahini, silan, organic mixed greens & walnuts - The Falafel - Falafel balls made from greens and chickpea, served with tahini, cured cabbage and grilled onion - Cauliflower - With tahini, grilled red onion and thyme - The Hummus Kitchen - Platter divided by four types of hummus: chickpea, chicken (we substituted for the vegetarian hummus), tahini and plain Desserts were aaaamazing: - Malabi - Mediterranean flan topped with coconut, pistachio & grenadine - The Kitchen Kadif - Halva parfait on shredded filo dough topped with halva & silan Do try them! I've been here several times, and haven't been impressed until my recent visit where they re-vamped their brunch menu. The appetizers that come with the brunch are amazing. The lox and fried cauliflower (YES FRIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) were my favorites. I went with a safe choice this time: chicken hummus. It came with a generous portion of chicken (duh) and, you guessed it, hummus, and pita bread. I had to take the rest home because I couldn't finish (even though I really wanted to). They had good hummus, fresh pita, and great tabouleh! They are famous for all sorts of hummus flavors, which are essentially the same base hummus with chickpeas or flava beans or chicken thrown on top - so while that is over-hyped, can't deny it's great tasting hummus! Delicious, affordable with attentive service, what's not to love? Came here yesterday with the girls for a late brunch, which dragged to an early dinner. The waitress was sweet, providing suggestions and the waiter was prompt with his water refills. I feel as if I drank a gallon myself. Friends got got a wrap, the chicken salad, falafel balls with hummus, garden veggie soup. Nothing but happy sighs all around. I was distinctly pleased with the signature salad, both hearty and generous. I even enjoyed some baklava for dessert. Big enough to share but yummy enough I didn't want to! Great restaurant in Hell's Kitchen with many vegetarian options-- mostly vegetarian and vegan with some meat available. Really good & smooth hummus here! Tons of different types of hummus- plain, chickpea, tahini, mushroom etc (basically the same base hummus with different toppings). The hummus platter is great for sharing. I love that they serve warm fluffy whole wheat pita as an option!! Much better than plain white pita. The whole wheat pita was very soft and yummy. They don't serve a lot at a time so you have to keep asking if you want more. There is a variety of salads, entrees and a "tapas-like" options where you can pick three different items. Really good selection of clearly-market vegan options! I had the falafel, cauliflower (AMAZING) and tomato/cucumber salad. I would recommend hummus kitchen for a healthy plant-based meal. This place hits the spot and is super filling - but you don't have to feel guilty about it! The waiter was really helpful, he warned us we were ordering too much food at first so we decided to cut our order in half. Good thing we listened, we couldn't even finish! We ordered the Hummus Sampler which comes with Chickpea, Mushroom, Tahini and Egyptian. Honestly, the Chickpea and Egyptian were both really similar. Maybe because they were topped with something of similar consistency - one beans and one well, chickpeas. My favorite was the Mushroom - very flavorful, followed by Tahini - smooth and light. Also ordered the Mazze Trio and picked the Falafel, Chopped Salad and the Bureka. The falafel is SO good - not too greasy. We used the pitas to make little pockets of hummus, falafel and their yummy spicy green sauce that came with it. YUM. So good. Chopped salad was ok, a nice light/refreshing side but wasn't amazing. I only had a small bite of the bureka though, I was way too full. It's a lot of flaky pastry - good and filling. Brunch menu seems fun, I wanna come back and try that next time. read more

Up until a few weeks ago, I never thought I'd be a fan of Mediterranean - back in school, I basically just pushed it off as mushed-up vegetables and goo. Jeez am I glad I've had a bunch of this type of food recently. Realized hummus is actually extremely good and flavorful, and the cauliflower and baba ghanoush are to die for. The pita used for dipping was very fresh, and the falafel was mouth-watering as well! Thought the vegetarian couscous was a bit plain, but overall the food was fantastic! Helps that if you check-in on Yelp, you can get a free small plate of hummus. Loved the service here as well! The staff was very kind and fun (when we first got in, there weren't too many people, and the receptionist joked that they were closed, haha). If you're getting sick of the same old American brunch, Hummus Kitchen is an awesome alternative. The $16 weekend brunch deal includes tea or coffee, a sampler of Mediterranean appetizers, and a brunch entree of your choice. If you check in on yelp, there's also a free cider. Since the restaurant was out of cider for the day, the waiter offered me a free sangria instead (even better!). If you add an extra $7, you get unlimited sangria or mimosa. For the price, this is definitely awesome deal. I really liked my hummus shakshuka entree. The blend of hummus, tomatoes, cumin, and over easy egg, dipped with pita bread was such a comforting way to start a Saturday morning. All the complimentary appetizers were really delicious as well. My favorites were the roasted cauliflower and salmon. Our pita bread basket was constantly refilled with warm fresh bread. Needless to say, I was very happily full from the meal, even more happy to know that most of what I stuffed myself with was made up of veggies or chickpeas. How often is brunch so healthy? Like most of the restaurants in this area, the space is quite intimate. The tables are ideal for parties of 2-4 but definitely uncomfortable for bigger parties. For some reason, the restaurants in Hell's Kitchen are never very crowded for brunch (guess everyone is flocking to the villages for brunch), thus all the more compelling to come here during prime brunch time. read more

Went here for lunch. Got two lunch hummus plates of beef and chicken. With a side of Baba ghanouj and cucumber salad. Everything tasted great. The baba had a really nice Smokey taste to it. the space is very cozy- I love the wall art and the gold walls and candles. The menu is so cool it's all on an IPAD which makes it efficient and easy to locate. For drinks, I got the lemonade with fresh mint leaves and it was refreshing and not too sweet. I also tried the slushie version of it and it was even better because you can really taste the mint when it's blended. for the appetizers I ordered falafel, stuffed grape leaves, and baba ganoush. The waitress asked me if I wanted to order the hummus as well since it is part of the name of the restaurant, and I agreed to get that too. All of the appetizers were delicious- the Falafel was fried nicely and made with sesame seeds which I thought was pretty unique. The stuffed grape leaves had pomegranate seeds on top which gave the dish balance of sweet and salty. The hummus was smooth and the baba ganoush was flavorful. I ordered the shakshuka and although it was a bit thicker than what I was used to, I enjoyed dipping the pita bread to soak up the sauce. The hummus here is the closest I've ever had to the hummus in Haifa Israel, so creamy and smooth, and paired with light and fluffy bread.

My friend and I were walking around the city hungry and desperate for some good food! We decided to try Hummus kitchen, being that we both down hummus like it's our job. It was love at first sight! The place is small, so you are sitting very close to your neighbors. It's the city, this is not necessarily a unique characteristic to this restaurant. There is a small bar that holds about 4-5 people while you wait for a table. The menu is on iPads which is cool. You can click on a food item and see a picture of it (a feature many Yelpers may enjoy). Upon checking in on Yelp I realized you score a free hummus appetizer! In addition to that, we ordered a few of the small plates. It was perfect for sharing and Judy the right amount. The food was fresh and delicious. I have been dying to eat at one of the Hummus Kitchen locations for quite some time now, and yesterday I finally had my chance. The food is good. The portions aren't large, but they're not small either, and the prices are very good too. Mushroom hummus appetizer- good.You have a choice between white or whole wheat pita. Red chicken- good. Super healthy salad- good, served cold, very crisp and fresh tasting. They serve it with extra dressing on the side, which is necessary in my opinion. Malabi- I'm not much of a coconut lover but this was VERY good. I also ordered the hibiscus tea and asked them to add mint leaves to it- GREAT IDEA, I highly recommend that concoction. The reason why this review isn't 5 stars is because the service wasn't great. It wasn't bad but we did get served tea AFTER the appetizers came. Either way, I'd come back. read more

It's a small, brick-walled space with a couple of outdoor tables. Was doing good business while I was there. I could have done without Britney Spears blasting on the speakers, but whatever. A three-part sampler of hummus, falafel, and mujadra made for a nicely diverse meal. The latter was not particularly impressive; only a few lentils to be found in this rice and lentil dish (what, are lentils expensive?) and not bursting with flavor; I've had better renditions. The falafel however was quite flavorful and tastefully delivered with tahini and a few other accouterments. The trademark hummus was smooth, but I have to say not that flavorful in and of itself. Ample garnishments and mixing with the falafel made it all work out though. They offered a choice of regular or whole wheat pita. The rest of their menu offered some nice options, and is labeled for vegans (not much cheese here, it seems, unlike many Mediterranean restaurants). It wasn't a cheap meal, but probably no more than could be expected given the area. I'm hovering at 3.5, but I'd want to go back if I was in the area again, so I'll aim up. read more

Mushroom hummus is very good here. It's pretty much regular hummus topped with plump slices of portobello mushrooms that are charred on the outside and juicy on the inside. The other dishes were also good but not that memorable. Mustard wasn't too strong, and it was just the right bite so I didn't have a mouthful of rich smoked salmon. * Grape leave was good, I normally don't enjoy them but it didn't have the overpowering taste of the grape leaf * Eggplant with tahini very nice combo of sweet and ...tahini lol... * Wasabi chickpeas big fail. I'm allergic to Wasabi. That means if it's there (or horseradish), I sneeze...a lot. There was no sneezing to be had with these. There wasn't really any flavour to them at all actually :( Otherwise, the meal was quite nice. My friend had the Eggs Benny, and he enjoyed them especially the Israeli salad on the side which was nice and fresh. I had a falafal laffa wrap which was fine. Filling and tasty. Came here today lunch with a co-worker. Have to say, this little place is a great found! We both have the lunch special and a drink, total about $15 each before tax, and we just finished half! The portion is generous and the food is top notch. I have the hummus lunch special, which comes with a option of hummus and one option of mezze. I have the lite hummus, aka less tahini sauce and lower fat. But it is still very creamy! My co-worker had the platter with beef kebab and rice, including a choice of mezze. The portion is big and my co-worker said it was tasty. We will definitely revisit this place again! One thing needs to mention. Came here craving for sm Hummus The place is very tiny but very original, welcoming and warm. Nice playlist ( jazzy style) and love the floor with sm original Sirianish style tile. Went here with a friend to grab a bite to eat for dinner on a Saturday night. We did not have a reservation, but were lucky to be seated at the last empty table in the place. After perusing the menu, we decided to split an order of the hummus and we each got the chicken couscous. The hummus was decent, and they were kind enough to bring us out more pita to use with it. The chicken couscous was decent--not the most amazing, but had some nice flavors and the portion size was definitely generous. We were a group of 7 people having lunch on a Sunday. The meal was good, and for the food itself, I would have given it 4 stars. But, the experience could have been much better. It took us forever to place an order, and for some reason, one of the waiters was giving us so much attitude and was exasperated with us whenever we made additional orders or requests. At the end of the meal, he came to give us our bill all on one bill. Typically when you're out to lunch with 7 people, you're usually paying separately. When I told him which dishes to separate, he was super rude about it, and reluctantly took my request. Then he came back with the incorrect bills. I expected better, having glanced at other reviews here on Yelp. My friend and I shared a mazze trio and a falafel wrap. The latter was good - the falafel wasn't overcooked or dry and had good flavor, but I'm not sure I liked the large amount of pickles in it. The hummus, babaganush and the boreka we got for the trio were just okay - not bad but I wasn't thoroughly impressed with the flavors. They were a bit on the bland side. The pita was also really doughy and bland. (Also, one pita for a trio of tapas? That's it?) Also not helping the experience was the fact that one server refilled my water glass from a pitcher, but the water in that pitcher had an awful plastic-like aftertaste. Not sure why. Luckily our main server replaced my glass with fresh water, but when the other server came around with the pitcher again, my water again had that plastic-like taste to it. And then there was the fact that I almost got hit in the face with a dustpan that another server was using while she swept the floor and didn't realize where the dustpan was when she leaned to one side. I have mixed feelings about this review. On one hand, the hummus is good every time... Great actually. On the other hand, I haven't had anything there with meat... So I guess I'm a little biter about that because I hate to admit vegetarian meals are good.
