I took advantage of my evening home alone last night and ordered something the significant other probably won't be on board with anytime soon...take-out from Hummus Kitchen. I have a thing for dinner that feels like a "snack"...tapas, things to dip, etc. I ddon't know where that came from but hummus fits the bill. They have an appetizer trio where you can pick three of their appetizers for $8-and-change. I selected the Bureka (stuffed pastry with feta, eggplant and dried tomato...I only saw/tasted feta though), Mediterannean salad (chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, onion with a mint/lemon dressing that's amazing!) and green tahini (tahini with parsely). The portions were so huge that I could barely make a dent! I also ordered the Egyptian hummus which filled one of those huge aluminum take-out containers. SO big. Both the appetizer sampler and hummus entree came with two thick pitas...four in total. You can request vegatables to substitute the pita which is a nice touch. A note on the Egyptian hummus...I'm pretty sure my order came with black beans instead of fava beans which gave it a little bit of a mexican flavor but I was okay with it...It was still tasty. As a bonus, my order came with a frozen lemon/mint drink that was so good! And free which made it better. Needless to say, my fridge is completely full of leftovers today and I only spent $15! Love love this place! Came here last night with a friend. We shared a pitcher of sangria, super healthy salad (yes. That's the name), and the Egyptian Hummus (yuum!)- all in all it was amazing! Excellent service and food. The beet and cauliflower appetizers were a great start. Also ordered the hummus w/ mushrooms and the hummus w/ sirloin (ground beef and lamb) for the table. Could easily have either of these as a meal with the fresh pita. The toppings on the hummus were very tasty - more than your regular veggie-centric hummus meals. Ordered the schwarama laffa sandwich (doesn't come with any sides, but has adequate filling in the laffa wrap). Tried my daughter's falafel sandwich - it was excellent! The Mediterranean chicken wrap was surprisingly very good (wouldn't be the first thing I think of ordering at this type of restaurant, but it was very good). Yesterday, I was planning to go to Bocca Di Bacco for brunch, but when I got there at 3:42 was told that their brunch kitchen was closed. Both places were listed online and on their outdoor menu as having brunch till 4PM, yet only Hummus Kitchen follows their word. I've eaten there before, but never for brunch and it was A-MAZING! 5-6 little side dishes of delicacies, a main dish and coffee/tea. Yum, yum, yum. Nice atmosphere and service too. The only thing that's good about this place is their hummus. We had the falafel (too oily and does not have any flavor in), Baba ghanoush (too cold and too smoky), carrot salad (too much cilantro) and some other salads but when compared with other middle eastern places at the city, I would not recommend any. Their hummus is really good so go with the hummus sampler plate that has 4 different types of it. Oh, and one of other thing, with the appetizers they only bring 1 piece of pita and charge extra for the rest; so if you're going to share anything definitely ask for more pita. read more

Really pretty and intimate spot in Hell's Kitchen. It's pretty small and gets very busy, so I actually recommend making a reservation. There's not much room to wait around for a table in the actual restaurant. I came here with my friend and really enjoyed everything. Hummus was delicious and so was my falafel wrap. Portions were the perfect size and everything is really reasonably priced. Service was pretty good, despite how busy all the servers were. We showed up around 9:45pm and were immediately seated. The dining room is small, probably fitting around 35 or so people, but it wasn't packed. We ordered the hummus and the grape leaves as appetizers. The hummus is very traditional, creamy and good, but not a lot of extra flavor. Served w/ lots of pita. The grape leaves are on the smaller side but tasty. They're covered in mint and pomegranate. For the entree, we ordered the kabab. It filled us both up. It was great. Even among places specializing in hummus. I stopped in here over my lunch break today after seeing a string of positive Yelp reviews. It was a great decision. I arrived just before the lunch rush and was seated immediately, and it looked as if there was never a time when you would've needed to wait for a table. I got the lunch special, which gave a main hummus dish and an appetizer for $9, choosing the Mediterranean salad and the Egyptian hummus. The salad was good and tasty, and though the bowl in which it came was relatively small, it was literally overflowing. They didn't skimp. The hummus, though, was obviously the centerpiece. They did a great job of balancing the strength of flavor of the topping (which was again very generously provided) and the hummus itself; neither one overpowered the other, and both tasted great individually and in combination. The hummus was good and creamy, and served properly warm. The pita, too, was obviously fresh-baked and excellent in its own right. Portions were very well-sized, too, as I left full and ran out of pita just as I was finishing off the last of the hummus. I should take a moment to point out the downsides of the place, though. Seating was cramped, and I was pressed right up against the wall in my chair, without the opportunity to move out much without blocking the path of the servers. Also, although service was friendly, the waitress seemed overworked during the lunch rush, and it took a little while to get things like a water refill. That said, the problems weren't enough to materially harm my experience, or to cost this great hummus place one of its well-deserved five stars. Highly recommended. read more

I was told it would take 7-10 minutes for my takeout but they took 20-25 minutes because the chef I guess forgot to make the hummus. I was here on a date on a Saturday night. It is a very intimate restaurant with very close seating; get there early because it can get crowded. I had the lamb and chicken kebabs with salad which were very tender and juicy. I received a free sangria since I checked in at Yelp; it was so delicious that I ordered a second and I was slightly intoxicated! The service was good, nothing to complain about; if my waitress was tending to us then someone else was able to help us or provide us with a refill without asking!
