Local favorite and have never had a bad experience here. My husband and I come here a few times a year when we want to have a "real" steak in town. Our most recent date night consisted of the filet with red potatoes and seasonal vegetables and the porterhouse with the same sides. Steaks are always well seasoned and tender. Service is always quick and friendly. They have a large selection of wines and full bar, and a dessert menu to die for. The food at HH for us has always been consistent. Last night we had New York Strip and Porterhouse Steaks with Backed potato, salad, and vegetables. It was all excellent. NY Strip steak, baked potato, corn on cob and salad made at table. I requested medium/pink in middle of my steak...half of it seemed right on target, the rest not. My suggestion about corn on cob...as I asked is this beyond the season... water soaked cob, better to cut the kernels off the cob and serve it that way when not corn cob can be fresh. Norwegian salmon, rice pilaf, and red-skinned potatoes ... all delicious. We enjoy having the salads made at the table so can choose toppings. They said award winning prime rib and I was like, yeah, sure buddy. One bite in, I believe them. The outside of the prime rib is great with a herb rub that included rosemary but not overwhelming as it can be. The ruby port au jus that comes with it many would like. To me it tasted like the meat juice and roasted onions. I hate onions of all sorts so I am not taking points off. This place is nice and you can either dress up or come casual. read more

On Tuesday October 28, 2025 I came in for dinner for a Birthday party celebration and ordered the Forest Mushroom Chicken. The food was good and the service was also good the waiter would come by regularly to check in the party of 8. I had ate approximately 65% of my food but still had most of my second chicken breast left but cut. I suddenly chewed on a piece of plastic. I brought it out of my mouth it measured approximately 1 inch long and half an inch wide. When I told the waiter he gave me explanation and asked me, "the plastic from the straw." I was like no this plastic was thicker and straight unlike a plastic cover from a straw that is very thin and folds easily. He took the plate and said let me see what I can do for you. He came back a few moments later to advise me a $10 credit would be applied. Upon completion of everyone's dinner we received our receipt and yes a $10 credit was applied but I was also charged for the meal. I was not impressed by this restaurant and will never return. They made it seem like it was me that made a the drop of the plastic and killed my appetite. Thank you for your customer service but I will not be returning here. Update... Yes I was not charged for the meal and only when it was brought up again but to the manager. It should have never took for us to talk to a manager or "the second level". This should have been taken care of immediately. No the piece of plastic was not from the straw cover because it was not the same type or design as the cover. Also I noticed a camera over that table please review the video and train your staff to not accuse customers of placing it either by accident or on purpose. Also the plastic made it to my mouth. But I did learn a valuable lesson from this restaurant take pictures next time to post it. Please train your staff to resolve issues at the lowest level and also to not push your theories of placing the straw cover on to the plate and on to the chicken then placing it in my mouth. read more

Came here after my son's graduation. Made reservations before hand and they were very nice both times I called. We had a perfect table and great service. Everyone enjoyed the food. The bread they give with your drinks is so delicious it was gone in no time. Burgers, wrap and sandwiches were good size. Look forward to our next visit. read more

We love this place... it's one of two of our go-to places when we want a great steak. We LOVE their Filet Mignon. And the table side salad... gotta love all those options! Prices are fair for what we get. I try to save room for dessert (oh that butterfinger pie!!!!) and have leftovers for lunch the next day. For super fast seating, we often opt for the bar. The service is usually quick and personable. And it's less steps from the kitchen to our table, so the steaks are that much warmer. Yum. Now I'm hungry again! read more

Haven't eaten at Hungry Hunter Steakhouse in decades and was surprised to see one while at a ladies retreat in Bakersfield. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated - not bad. But they sat us in the middle of the dining room where the light wasn't good so we could really see our food. We look over to the empty table behind us, and it was perfectly lit. By then, it was too late to ask to move. I'm not sure why we were given the dark table when there was plenty of well-lit seating. The waiter was pleasant and helpful. He touted their popular prime rib. He made it sound so good, we each ordered the petite cut. And although I don't typically order prime rib, I must admit that was probably the best I've tasted - tender, juicy, and flavorful. It was so good, I couldn't stop thinking about it days after. We went early, about 4:30 on a weeknight and the restaurant was not crowded but we were asked to wait To be seated. After 10-15 minutes we were taken to our table, but from then on, the service was excellent. We both ordered the prime rib and it was amazing. Came here mid afternoon on a Sunday. We both ordered the prime rib. The large portion came with a bone. The petite had no bone and was cooked as specified (medium). The cut on the bone was ordered medium rare but was more medium well done. We got the fried artichoke hearts which were good but over priced. The Caesar salad dressing was on the bland side. The chili was fine but on the runny side. The side of mushrooms were good. The other included sides were just ok--we got fried green beans, sweet potato fries, and potatoes au gratin. So we are visiting Bakersfield and came to satisfy our cravings for great delicious, satisfying food. First time dining here. The hostess asked if we would like to sit at the bar lounge for happy hour. Andrea, our waitress, took our order for appetizers and a glass of wine. She did not come back to take our order after that. She proceeded to take orders for a large family and two other tables, all the while ignoring us. It wasn't until my husband waved at her did she ask what we would like to order. Everything went downhill from there. I lost my appetite and did not order the prime rib as planned. Overall the meal was great. Service was good; however, I am disappointed that the server didn't mention anything about my glassful margarita that was still full at the end of the meal. The Birthday Girl in our party of three wanted a steak for her special luncheon. We could not have chosen a better place to celebrate. From the cheery welcome to the decadent desserts, everything was an A+. Our server was very professional. He covered everything from the specials to the desserts. We never felt rushed. We began with a nice crisp salad containing lettuce, shredded carrots, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and croutons and a dressing of our choice. They advertise that they have the best prime rib in town and that is not a lie. Absolutely delicious, seasoned really well and perfectly cooked. All of our sides were awesome, and all of the "assisting" servers were very nice and attentive. This is where our experience was not very good, our main server, Aiden. He was not friendly at all, seemed like he was in a bad mood, and was very slow with all of our requests. We ordered two glasses of wine that took 15 minutes to get. He took even longer to take our orders. He never checked on us after finally getting our food and drinks. We finally flagged down a random server to get to go boxes. Meanwhile, throughout the night, I could see him in the back room chatting with some customers most of the time. It seemed like he knew them. I would normally give a much lower rating due to how bad our sever was, but the food was very good and all of the other servers who helped us were fast and friendly. Wowzers! This restaurant was right next to the place I was staying so on my last evening I decided to drop by and have dinner. The hostess let me know there's be a short wait, so I hung out by the cozy fireplace. Of course I got the prime rib with au gratin potatoes. Chose the table side salad bar and that was a treat. My awesome waitress brought it out and asked me what I wanted and built my salad right at the table. When the prime rib came out I could tell it was going to be good and it did not disappoint. After the 30+ years we finally made it out to have dinner here. We had a great greeting at arrival and a couple minutes wait for a table. We were seated our drink order was taken and we were given menus. The server was very friendly and informative. The food took a bit to come out but everything was really good. Great flavors and good portions. They do have a bar area and happy hour deals are only offered in the bar only. There is also a small patio which we saw off the bar that we noticed after we left. But I'm sure it's because we had our special needs boys with us. My youngest does make some high pitch noises, so it does put people off. But once seated our server was so sweet and kind to us.
