I've lived and worked in asia for over half a decade. This is not authentic at all. I ordered 12 dumplings (6 meat / 6 vegetable). I'm so disappointed. The ratio between the skin and the filling is completely off. The golden ratio is 5 grams of filling to 16 grams of dough which amounts to 21 grams total. I felt like I was chewing on boiled dough and I could barely taste the filling. The meat dumpling lacked flavour and there barely any veggies in the vegetable dumping. I would not recommend this joint, and I would not return again. read more

Got take out from this place and I was a regular before the pandemic as well. These folks make amazing dumplings, especially for the price. They're definitely the place to go in Redwood City. I ordered two different kinda of dumplings Togo. a pork and cabbage, and chicken and shrimp dumplings. both were very good. the wait wasn't very longs for them either so that's a plus. they do have a minimum charge for 15 but my order came out to be 14$ and the cashier allowed it so another star. a little more on the actual food. they are definitely fat dumplings loaded with filling. so you do get what you pay for. skin is a smidge too thick but tolerable. as for the sauce..... terrible. I came here for lunch one day with my coworker. The restaurant itself is pretty small. I really liked how the menu had a variety of food to pick from. We had the Pork Dumplings and the Cold Wide Bean Noodles. The dumplings were really yummy! I liked that the skin of the dumplings were not too thick and there were so much fillings in the dumplings. They definitely did not skimp on the ingredients. When I took a bite of the dumpling, there was a lot of soup within it! It was very flavorful. The cold wide bean noodles were pretty good. I definitely had to use a fork to pick them up to eat it. For the price of their food, it is very cheap. You also do not need to wait too long for the food to come out. Came here for lunch and there was a little bit of wait. Not too bad tho considering the place is really tiny. We ordered pork and chives dumpling, spicy marinated beef, and XLB. Total bill was 20 bucks. Pretty cheap. Overall its alright, nothing special. My favorite is the pork and chives dumplings. XLB is flavorless not as good as other places. And i found hair in my food too but i just took it out whatever. I came here to find out what's in them and there's no information so I guess I'll have to call and ask. Anyway, the dumplings are great! The restaurant is smaller and sort of dingy but the food makes up for it! Dumplings - these are great! They are so fresh and juicy on the inside. Green onion pancake - I think these are also handmade and tastes more fresh but I personally like the ones with thin layer on top of layers. Theirs is too thin and oily for me. Smashed cucumbers with garlic - these were light and well seasoned Salt & pepper tofu - piping hot and fresh!! 5 stars for the food, not necessarily for the environment/service - it's a hole in the wall place. Go right before or after peak lunch/dinner times if you don't want to wait for a table. This is one of my staple places in the peninsula for pork and chive boiled dumplings with great skin to filling ratio (not overly thick dumpling skins). Also really delicious beijing noodles (zha jiang mian) and stewed pork rice (taiwanese lu rou fan). The consistency may vary a tiny bit (sometimes a bit drier or slightly wetter) - but I guess that's how you know it's freshly made. Located in a commercial street of redwood city, This small restaurant offers the most delicious dumplings I've had outside of my dad's kitchen. Maybe it's just because they make it very similar to what I grew up eating, but I just loved them. Price is very fair, at 5.95 (tax not included) for a 12 dumplings plate. We also tried the green onion cake and the spicy beef noodle soup but were unimpressed by those. The cake was too oily for my taste and the spicy beef noodle was not as good as the sichuanese style we had back in socal. Next time I'll try the soup dumplings And more regular dumplings!! Came here with co-workers and ordered a bunch since we were a group of 6. Got to try a large variety of the dumplings (steamed, fried, etc) and they were all pretty good! I haven't tried a lot of other dumpling places so I don't have a solid baseline in mind, but this place was definitely really delicious and everyone in my group enjoyed all of the dishes. The place is a bit "authentic" in the sense that the workers seem to speak slightly broken English and the food presentation is fairly simply - nevertheless, I had a really good dining experience here. Came promptly, it was pipping hot and was shock to see such a huge bowl. Siping the soup while I let my food cool a little, it was heavenly. Despite the hot weather, the strong air conditioning inside this little outlet makes drinking hot soup awesome. Service was prompt and friendly. Traffic moves retry fast in this shop and do expect to possibly share tables with others too. Every table seem to have ordered their dumplings. My favorite two items are the wood ear fungus with celery and the pork & chive dumplings. You can ask for complimentary hot tea or ice water. Their no-frills service is fast and you can always flag a waiter down if needed but otherwise they don't come by your table other than to take your order, serve you food or get you to pay. Things I've gotten: == Apps == Fresh Cilantro Bean Noodle (4/5): I love bean curd so this hit the spot with it's slight savoriness and sesame oil flavor. Some people might find it a bit bland and it could definitely use more cilantro. Wood ear fungus with celery (5/5): Loved this! It had a tangy vinegar and garlic dressing with celery pieces and huge wood ear fungus. Very flavorful dish that went wonderfully with the dumplings == Dumplings == Shanghai soup dumplings (xiao long bao) (4/5): These soupy buns were flavorful, soupy and held together when picked up from the steamer basket. The pork meat held together nicely and there was an ample amount of juice on the first bite. The one con is that the skin was a bit too thick and they could've added ginger to the vinegar dipping sauce. Pork and chive dumplings (4/5): There's rarely a bad pork and chive dumpling. The pork was juicy and the chives added that extra punch and flavoring that made this hearty and delicious. Pork and napa dumpling (4/5): If you still want a pork dumpling but don't like the taste of chives or just want a milder tasting dumpling then this is it. The pork flavor is quite overpowering so you barely taste the cabbage but maybe that's an unfair comparison since cabbage is supposed to sit on the sidelines. Vegetable dumplings (2.5/5): Unfortunately this was just too bland and dry for me. Maybe it's because I'm used to the meat juices filling the dumpling but the mix of cabbage and tofu(?) in this wasn't enough to pique my interest. == Noodles == Spicy sliced beef noodle soup (2/5): I should've known to stick to dumplings given its namesake but I decided to be a bit more adventurous and it got me nowhere. While the noodles have a good texture (hence 2 stars) the soup is just a salted base with none of the beef flavor cooked in. It also wasn't remotely spicy. A great disappointment given the quality of their dumplings. Beijing noodles (zha jiang mian) (2/5): For some reason this place just can't do noodles right. The meat sauce didn't have any meaty taste and was overly salty. The sauce didn't seem to have any substance to it. The string beans were pretty good albeit a bit too oily. Instead of ground beef, I would have preferred sliced beef in the beef pancake. The portion size was huge so it was a good thing we didn't order any rice. The XLB is good. I really liked how the skin was chewy and didn't break apart too easily. The service here was quite disappointing. When we asked for some water, our server asked if we could go ahead and get it ourselves. I'm not sure if this is normal at this restaurant, but I was quite taken back by his comment. There was only one server and he also managed all the orders and bills. The spicy beef noodle soup was flavorful, spicy and chock full of bok choy, tree ear mushrooms, and chewy homemade noodles. The "beef," however, was awful. Tough and 80-90% inedible gristle--and this is coming from someone who intentionally orders tendon. I've included a picture if you dare look. Found this on Yelp and decided to give it a try since I am a very big fan of dumplings. Parking was easy to find as this street is kinda old school with tons of parking around. The place is quite small, we ordered Xiao long bao, very very good. Cabbage and pork dumplings, very good. Celery and dried tofu strips, it was also good. Prices are okay. ~50 cents/dumpling. 6 of us spent ~$11 each for dinner. They only give you a plate, so no separate dipping soy sauce bowl and soy sauce will get over all your other food. No spoons to eat XLB. They're seriously understaffed. -We asked for water, waited for 10 minutes, and were eventually directed to get our own water pitcher and glasses off the checkout counter. -There were at least 20 people waiting outside when the group next to us left and their table remained un-bussed for at least 15 minutes. -We ordered pork and cilantro dumplings and they accidentally gave us shrimp and pork instead. read more

We went there with two kiddies and all unanimously agreed that they serve THE best Taiwanese style chicken nuggets. The green onion pancake was very thin and light. We came here for lunch after tiring long waits at the DMV. A little hard to find, but we did find it. It is a hole-in-the wall type of restaurant, which, for me, is a point for authenticity, lol You can see people making dumplings in the back, which adds another bonus point. The dumplings here are way cheaper than the dumplings in Palo Alto/Mountain View. $7 for 12. We ordered Pork and Chives, and Pork and Napa, and an order of scallion pancakes. The scallion pancakes were a bit on the oilier side, but had a good amount of flavor despite the fact that each piece only had like 1 piece of scallion in it that we could see. The dumplings were decent size, the skin was just the right thickness. The napa cabbage dumplings even had a tiny tiny bit of soup inside! Wish they could have given us more vinegar; maybe I should just carry a bottle of vinegar with me everytime I eat dumplings out since it seems like dumpling places never give me enough vinegar, lol. Both napa and chives dumplings were tasty, but we preferred the chives over the napa. Would definitely come here again when in the area. read more

Service is a bit questionable - the server was brusk and wasn't helpful with recommendations, food took a while, and the credit card we used to pay was covered in grease when it was handed back to us. + Tree Ear Mushroom with Celery (芹菜木耳): Very mediocre, not too much flavor, more or less just soy sauce and garlic. + Egg Fried Rice (蛋炒饭): Also nothing special, vegetables taste like freezer and rice could've used higher heat to get some more texture. + Green Chives Pan Cake (韭菜盒子): Decent flavor, but not well-constructed since it was falling apart as we tried to eat it. + Pork Dumpling with Napa Cabbage (白菜猪肉水饺), Pork & Shrimp Dumpling with Green Chives (韭菜猪肉虾水饺): This was the only item I really enjoyed. They taste handmade, with a nice chewy skin and juicy filling. Both were great! I'd come again if I were craving dumplings and would probably avoid ordering anything else. read more
